Yoshitsune Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year
Authentic Japanese food right at Waikiki! We love the
Authentic Japanese food right at Waikiki! We love the butterfish and also the kamameshi (iron pot rice). Price is reasonable given the high quality and quantity served.
Old school Japanese restaurant at the quiet end of Waikiki,
Old school Japanese restaurant at the quiet end of Waikiki, by Diamond Head. I usually have their Japanese breakfast at least once, and we come here when we're looking for a clean dinner that's not full of grease and sauce. This time, the breakfast was oddly served in disjointed order, with the fish coming very last, long after the rice and everything else. If you go, maybe ask them to serve everything at once because otherwise it really makes no sense. They first served us some appetizers and the spinach. Then after that, they gave us our rice and miso soup. Yup. Just that. About 8 minutes later, the fish came. Weird, and kinda ruined the experience. But the house-made tofu is still very nice. We also went there last night for a simple dinner. I had the nabeyaki udon, and it was sadly one of the worst I ever had, which is surprising as their food is usually pretty solid. Their simple cabbage oshinko (pickles) was pretty tasty and you get a good amount for your $10. The hubby had their green salad, which was HUGE - basically, add some protein and it's an entree size. The carrot dressing was excellent. He also had their chicken karaage and he said it was decent. We both had their chawanmushi and it was a very light but nice dish. Overall, a good option if you're looking for some fresh vegetables and light, clean protein while in Waikiki.
Found by my wife and I the last time we came to Hawaii, I
Found by my wife and I the last time we came to Hawaii, I went again a few days ago with friends on a 5 day trip for a friend's wedding. It's burrowed in the back of a hotel lobby, but the interior is a lot larger than you'd expect. Previously, we'd come here several times due to the exceptional quality of the fish and presentation. I'm glad to see that it hasn't changed. The stacked chirashi and agadashi tofu are two of my favorites here. They provide their homemade tofu as an appetizer, and their agadashi is probably the best i've had of any restaurant. The real star of my meal though is the stacked chirashi. From the relatively large serving size to the presentation with pink salt, there really isn't anything to complain about if you like variety. For about $60, it's also quite reasonable for the quality and quantity. No issues with service; we had very attentive waitresses. I plan to come down again the next time I'm in town.
A healthy morning feast at Yoshitsune! The Imperial
A healthy morning feast at Yoshitsune! The Imperial breakfast, nutritious delights like broiled fresh Atlantic salmon, house-made tofu, and an array of wholesome accompaniments. It's the perfect start to a nourishing day!
Amazing spot.
Very traditional Japanese menu. Very reasonable pricing for course meals. I had one with butterfish for my main entree... it came with multiple other dishes including tofu, soup, sashimi, tempura. I finished every single bite! I additionally ordered the broiled miso eggplant appetizer and the flavor on that was really good, and it's a perfect app for sharing. My boyfriend had shabu shabu set menu and it was excellent as well. We paid $172 for 2 beers, 2 set menus, and 2 appetizers (I don't remember which appetizer he ordered separately... might have been chicken karaage... I do remember he liked whatever it was). 100% will be back to try more of their menu items, next time I'd like to sit at the sushi bar and try the omakase menu, I think it's around $120.
For our last day in Hawaii I really wanted Japanese
For our last day in Hawaii I really wanted Japanese breakfast. Yoshitsune looked great so we stopped by as soon as they opened ~8:30. We both opted for the Japanese breakfast set which comes with a fish of your choice (some may be a bit extra, but I don't remember), miso soup, rice, egg, and a few vegetable sides. There's also an optional add on or two. We opted to try to tofu since it seemed really popular. At the end you get fruit, which was papaya for us but it may differ based on time of the year. I thought the meal was fantastic and so beautifully presented. I love butterfish and this one was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sides are also great, as is the miso soup. You get quite a bit of food (miso soup is unlimited as well) so I was able to take some fish and rice to go. I made some rice balls for the plane! I forget how much the meal cost but I thought it was very reasonable given the quantity and quality of food. Will definitely be back next time we're in Waikiki!
I stopped in and was seated immediately.
They gave me a glass of water then completely ignored me for nearly 15 minutes. I was never asked if I wanted a drink or questions about the menu. Only when I got up to leave is when they said anything to me Where's the zero star button?
I returned here to try their dinner and it was equally
I returned here to try their dinner and it was equally impressive. I had the two tier chirashi bowl and it had a variety of raw fish, seafood, and condiments. All were very fresh and complimented each other nicely. One of the highlights of this meal was their homemade silken tofu. Its served like a piece of tofu but then comes apart like noodles. It tastes so good and I can't figure out how they prepare this! See video, you won't believe it's tofu. Service was also very good for dinner as it was for breakfast. They even changed our table before we ordered when a more spacious one opened up. We didn't say anything but it shows how much they care about their customers! This restaurant has a very pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. We had a party of six and had a very enjoyable evening just relaxing and enjoying some really good Japanese food.
Located at the Park Shore Hotel across from the Honolulu
Located at the Park Shore Hotel across from the Honolulu Zoo in Waikiki, Yoshitsune Restaurant highlights the very best in authentic Japanese Cuisine. Best known for its freshly made tofu "noodles ", its soft, silky texture leaves you craving for more. My friend invited me to a quiet lunch in this simple traditional Asian setting. I ordered the Ushiwaka Bento which included the house made tofu, savory chicken teriyaki, fresh sashimi, crispy tempura, miso soup, steamed white rice, and green tea ice cream for dessert. My friend ordered the butterfish misoyaki teishoku which happens to be her favorite! (It also came with the tofu appetizer, miso soup, rice, and vanilla ice cream.) Everything was so tasty and seasoned to perfection. With its friendly, courteous service, fresh authentic cuisine, and valet parking, it's the perfect place to relax with family and friends. You can be sure we'll be coming back for more! Arigato!
Awesome food! Loved the tofu and grilled fish.
I got the Mackerel. It was perfectly seasoned. The meat was juicy and the skin was lightly crisped.
I was on a 2 week solo travel in hawaii back in november.
Writing a review now because I forgot to do it there and this place is very deserving of a 5 star review. Waikiki beach is full of overpriced tourist-driven places with low quality foods. Of all of the places I tried during my stay, this was my favorite. Located in the hotel lobby of Park Shore Waikiki. I came here twice, wish I had even more. The coursed meals were a very good deal for what you get and I left feeling very full and satiated both nights. The first night I did the Miso Butteryaki course, and the second the sashimi course w/ Miso Butteryaki. Walking into the restaurant felt like you were stepping into Japan. The way the staff greats you is very traditional, and the attention to detail was very much noticed. They have this homemade tofu starter dish with such a light and simple flavor, probably my favorite part. A taster is also brought out to contrast this with flavors that were sweet, savory, rich, vinegary, and complex (all second picture). The tempura was well-made, the butteryaki to die for, and the sashimi had a nice range of flavor pairings to keep it interesting. Don't miss out on this gem!
The Tsuru kaiseki course was absolutely terrific.
The sashimi included toro or blue fin tuna, scallops, abalone, uni or sea urchin, ama ebi or sweet shrimp and geoduck. The hamachi or yellowtail melted in my mouth. The butterfish was marinated perfectly. The chawan mushi was a nice touch. We liked the food so much we brought our entire women's walking group the following week for dinner.
As authentic as it can get! This was by far the most
As authentic as it can get! This was by far the most memorable meal we had while in Oahu. This was our second trip so that says a lot. In each dish, you can really feel the incredible amount of passion and care. It feels like food from home in the best way possible. Greatest compliment to the owner and chef. The owner was such a sweet gentleman and he truly wanted to know whether we were enjoying our meals. Get butterfish, chirashi, nigiri. I mean just incredible.
Although located in a hotel, the restaurant reminds me of
Although located in a hotel, the restaurant reminds me of Japan. From the decor to the people and to the food. Walking in, all I hear is people speaking in Japanese. The sushi chef, the waitresses and hosts, and the customers. Debated between the combo full course with miso butterfish (comes with sashimi) or the regular full course (no sashimi combo). So glad I opted for the regular because the regular already came with a lot of items. I wouldn't have had room for dessert or my small hot sake. Everything was beautifully presented... each item amazingly handcrafted (or so it tasted like it). Starting with refreshing appetizers, you get an assorted veggies. The cucumbers surprised me because it sandwiched these fermented natto-looking beans (which were absolutely delicious). Also included a little sweet shrimp with sweet glazed mayo on top. Another pickled but savory veggie and tamago. Next came the miso soup, chawanmushi, and miso butterfish. Even the chawanmushi had a little surprise underneath. A good and delicious surprise. Star of the show was definitely the miso butterfish. It was perfectly glazed and lived up to its buttery name. Probably one of the best miso-glazed fish I have had. Normally I am not a fan of butterfish, but the seasoning, preparation, and freshness of the fish make up for me not liking that type of fish. My waitress/host (Tamiko) was the sweetest and most adorable. Reminds me of my little hardworking grandma. Overall experience? One of the best I have had here in Hawai'i, and would definitely do it again!
Decent Japanese food with very limited drink menu and high prices.
This is a low key Japanese restaurant inside the Park Shore hotel. The room has no windows, but seems to be fairly quiet. The service seemed under staffed. We often had to hunt down our waitress, who was very good when present. Not much of a drink menu, pretty much Sake or Beer, surprising since there is an excellent bar right upstairs. Food was the Japanese classics, well executed but very pricey for what it was. All in all, decent but expensive, not somewhere I would particularly recommend or return to.
Very authentic Japanese food and not the fusion stuff! Had
Very authentic Japanese food and not the fusion stuff! Had the Omakase and was outstanding.
Low profile restaurant with some good dishes
Quite low profile restaurant in the hotel. Food is authentic and you can see many Japanese customers enjoying their food. Sliced tofu is great. We visited with a toddler, and they accommodated us well.
It is a Japanese restaurant that mainly serves set meals.
This restaurant serves various types of Japanese food as course meals and set meals. This time, Matsutake mushrooms are just starting to come in, so I had Matsutake Kamameshi as a course meal. They were delicious. I got to taste the first Matsutake mushrooms of the year in Honolulu.
A reliable Japanese restaurant run by Japanese people
I went there after seeing it featured on TV. It's proper Japanese food and the taste is good. The restaurant is also spacious, but it seems better to make a reservation in advance. They speak Japanese, of course, so you can eat with peace of mind. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
