Tai Pan Liverpool Reviews from The Last Year
Not good
Wow this was an absolutely awful experience!! Not only was our food disgusting - starting with the sui mais - hard around the outside and chewy . Then the half perking duck was £32.00 ( starter ) it was so dry and flavorless ! The main course we ordered crispy chilli beef which was that crispy it almost took my teeth out - with hardly any beef in it just crispy fat ! Then they forgot my partners main course and rice absolute disaster! And to top it off the waiter - in casual clothes so obviously a manager ( small guy / glasses . He was the rudest waiter I have ever come across - laughing when we were trying to order and smirking / sharp with questions and had a really cocky presence .we had to get up and pay the bill and there was a massive ray of people trying to order takeaways / pay their bill so the rude manger was shouting at the till making remarks because we were trying to work out each others total as we were a big family . I said this could be prevented if bills were taken at the table . Honestly it was Chaos drinks came after 45 mins service was hurrendous from start to finish and food not good
A bit of a disappointment for a 1st time visit.
Was here for a Mother's day dinner, we had ribs, salt and pepper chicken , satay chicken, sweet and sour pork and a few other dishes which we shared with noodles, fried rice and chips. Everything was lovely except for one meal, we couldn't figure out what it was, it was supposed to be crispy beef, but it was inedible, we tried one piece and it was like chewing through fried rubber or something, we'd ordered 2 and the whole meals were left untouched, all of us agreed it wasn't good, sadly these were charged for although we'd said they were inedible to the waiter, £13 for each maybe, not sure, but wasted. Atmosphere nice.
Poor quality and expensive
Food was tasteless. Sent ot back once came back out the same. Sui mai were hard like they had been steamed for days. Would not visit again.
CONFIRMED FOOD POISONING.
We have been going to the Tai Pan for well over 30 years, NEVER had a problem. Last October my husband wanted us to celebrate his 70th birthday in our favourite place ,The Tai Pan. we went on a Sunday afternoon, and was quite surprised to find plenty of empty spaces, its normally hectic, and we usually have to wait for a table to be vacated, I was quite shocked because it had gone down a lit, chairs looked old and had raggy covers ,and the carpet felt sticky and very dirty, We had been told it had only reopened the week before. CLOSED TO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS the sign said, We found out that it had in fact been closed by the Public Health, because of Kitchen hygiene problems. Within 24 hours of our visit i felt unwell. and then it began. Diarrhoea on a biblical scale. This continued and in the end I reluctantly had to go to my G.P. I had lost eleven pounds in weight. my stool sample came back positive for Campylobacter. I contacted the manager and he asked for proof. My doctor provided me with the lab results and I passed these on , I phoned several times and finally was told they would do nothing about it. I was and remain angry. our meal was well over 2oo pounds, and that was soft drinks. no alcohol. they really couldent be bothered. Ive given up chasing them . Suffice to say that We will never go back to the Tai Pan, Its a painful infection, and I spent a miserable two weeks before I felt a bit better. Lesson Learnt.
Overpriced, poor quality.
Dated decor. Crispy duck starter very tasty but main courses very disappointed. Fried rice bland and soggy. Prawns with veg very bland. Beef in black peppers sauce , green chilli made too hot to eat. When we paid bill explained our view to a manager but she just said sorry. I wasn’t asking for our money back, I wasn’t going to pay £56 for food that was Esther bland without expressing my view. As I told the manager I won’t be going again.
Lift
Food always good but needs to sort lift out. Last time got stuck in it. Today there was a sign on the lift saying “be patient lift slow” What is that all about! Before anything serious happens please sort out
Best Chinese Cuisine Dining in Liverpool
We came to Tai Pan on the 24th of September, we arrived at around 1 PM and the queue to get a table wasn't long at all. If anything the wait time for a table is normally along the lines of 5 - 25 minutes but can vary. We visited after re-opening, the staff were great and the food was spectacular. The restaurant was large and very open, we went on a Sunday afternoon - it wasn't too noisy but fairly busy. The only downsides were that the food did take a while to come but was understandable due to the restaurant being very busy. We also had to ask a few times to get a staff member's attention but apart from that they were all amazing. I would recommend Tai Pan to anybody who would like a wonderful Chinese cuisine experience, there is also a supermarket underneath which is also worth a visit while you are there.
Average food very expensive
The Dim Sums were very bland and disappointing especially as they are supposed to be specialised in them, how ever the mains ( sweet & sour prawn and beef in black bean) was very good, the atmosphere was great and very busy so service was as expected a little slow. The price was very expensive 3 dim sums, 2 mains & 1 rice, 1 beer, 1 water came to £75.00 which is a lot for 2 people at lunchtime, there are better and cheaper restaurants in Liverpool so won’t be going back there is anytime soon.
Average at best
Set menu for 2, expensive and not very flavoursome, quantity was good, quantity not so good. Service was okay.
Favourite Chinese restaurant in Liverpool
Tasty dishes and good value for money. Service is what you'd expect for an authentic chinese restaurant- not bad, not good but average. Still our favourite Chinese restaurant in town. They should get rid of the disposable chopsticks and upgrade their seats though as it cheapens the restaurant.
