Restaurante Txulotxo Pasaia Reviews from The Last Year
Tourist trap
Bad food, unfriendly service. Just about everything we had tasted not quite that fresh. Both the mussels and the langoustines had a bad odor that fresh seafood should never have. The garlic prawns seemed to be fried in the cheapest oil around, and of course with prawns that seemed to come from the deep fridge rather than from the nearby sea (hey, this was supposed to be a harborside restaurant!). A big disappointment.
100% recommended
I chose this restaurant by intuition and some opinions, and I was not wrong. We tried the prawn salad (delicious), the turbot for 2 (very well prepared) and the house cake (very fine). We ask for water to drink. All for about €44 per person. The treatment was very friendly. To repeat.
Txulotxo Restaurant is always good!
Cozy restaurant with spectacular views! Exquisite food and service from Tomás the waiter of 10! Very attentive, friendly and professional. We will repeat!!
There is no cook.
The service is correct and professional. The kitchen better close. A dish as simple as clams marinara and they don't know how to make a marinara. We are not going to talk about cod pil pil, pathetic. With what this establishment was….
Great product and good views
Improvised group meal, with several starters (the garlic prawns were very good) and then several dishes. Highlights include the fish soup, sirloin, hake stuffed with crab and monkfish with clams...we were all surprised by the great quality!! We will be back!
Nice view but a bit expensive.
When you have the table against the windows you have a great view of the water and the boats. The welcome and service are very professional. But disappointed by the dishes: the value for money is too high, lack of accompaniments, the fish parillade only had one fish, fortunately there were mussels and shrimps...Disappointing.
Lovely food, poor service
We were delayed by the large number of people crossing the river and had to wait. We were 30 minutes late for the table, but they kindly kept it for us and were very reasonable. The setting is amazing. The food was excellent, but no better than the cheaper Casa Camara next door The negative i am afraid was the unfriendly service. Un smiling and surly. Made us feel that they did not want us to be there Such a shame - other wise would have given it 5 stars
To leave fallow
On Monday 9/11 we ate at the Txulotxo restaurant and it was a hugely disappointing experience. We have been customers of this restaurant until four years ago when they put us in the dining room like subway passengers in Tokyo. They reinterpreted the well-known saying “where two eat, three eat” and tried to maximize the profitability of their square meters. We had no desire to return. However, their menu included several dishes that we missed, succulent preparations, so, as time softens bad experiences, we decided to return once again. The management has recently changed and we thought it was for the better since at first glance we noticed that the arrangement of the tables left more space between them. However, the good feeling did not last long, we soon realized that the furniture is from a beach cafe. But now entering into the gastronomic part, the menu is shorter than we remembered and some dishes that we had enjoyed on other occasions were missing, but, basically, it seemed to maintain the essence. The disappointment came when we found that, of those dishes, only the name remained. There were three of us at the table and to start we ordered a Foie Mi Cuit to share and two baked crabs. The choice of Foie Mi Cuit seems like something that cannot be wrong, since it is only a matter of buying a good one and serving a few portions, but things started badly because they served it to us with some of those round commercial toasts, without any grace, that they had lost its crisp freshness a few days ago. It seems to me that, charging 21.80 euros per portion, they might well have thought of serving some homemade toast to spread and enjoy. Next, the baked txangurros arrived and if things could get worse here they confirmed it to us. The old Txulotxo served an excellent product cooked on its stove with a result that invited repeaters. But the new txulotxo served us two shells of some undocumented crab and stuffed, sparsely, with a dough that only tasted of tomato. A product that, although it was edible, could not be hidden from the fact that it was purchased from a frozen food supplier. And for 19 euros each piece. To say I felt cheated doesn't describe what I really think. Next, we ordered two grilled monkfish for my companions and an American-style monkfish for me. The scarce fish came, in both recipes, accompanied by some cooked potatoes. But they were the kind that you buy in vacuum bags already cooked and they acquire a peculiar color. The dish called for some baked potatoes cooked under the fish to soak up the flavor, but once again they went easy and didn't even let them cook for a few minutes with the fish, they put them on the plates directly from the bag judging by the flavor. And it's almost better not to mention the "American style" sauce because my impression is that it wasn't cooked by them either, but that they had simply opened a jar and poured it over the fish. To forget as soon as possible. And we come to dessert. In the previous Txulotxo they served a puff pastry cake with cream and cream, which is a simple preparation, but the magnificent puff pastry they cooked elevated that dessert to the highest category. When the waiter informed us that the house cake was exactly the dessert we had enjoyed in the past, the three of us ordered it. But once again we find a shabby reinterpretation. The puff pastry was tempered, as if it were two or three days old, although the other possibility is that they also buy it ready-made, the cream was not cream nor had it ever been, and the cream, BY GOD! what was that... The waiter had the unfortunate idea to ask how the cake was and got a detailed description of the bad impression he had made on us. He threatened to tell the cook, but no one came to defend that dessert that was absolutely unbecoming of a restaurant. In short, we paid the 170.20 euros indicated on the bill and left, refusing to have the coffees to avoid further disappointment. Unfortunately we are leaving this restaurant fallow again.
TERRIBLE QUALITY
We were 3 people to eat at the beginning of September, we thought that by keeping some dishes from the previous management they would be just as delicious as before but that was not the case. We should have realized what awaited us as soon as we entered the dining room and saw the plastic chairs and the one-leg tables like those in cafeterias and covered like ironing boards. We ordered a serving of MIT CUIT and the toast was soggy. We continued with BAKED TXANGURRO which was a crab shell stuffed with a pasta of who knows what with tomato. The RAPES, grilled and American style, were small and dry with some potatoes that come cooked and sous vide and the American sauce from one of them simply poured over the top. The dessert was the worst, THE HOUSE CAKE was composed of stale puff pastry and a dough that did not come off the fork that they called cream and a paste that they called cream. We told the waiter that it was terrible and he told us that he would tell the kitchen but the fact is that no one from the kitchen came out. The amount was 170.20 as if it were a quality menu and the fact is that it was worse than a roadside menu, I have eaten much better in those places. I won't come back even if I'm starving, it's just to run away. What a shame this restaurant ended like this!
Times are changing for the worse
Correct service. The low quality product. The only thing the changurro tastes like is tomato. The cheeks were poorly prepared and probably served after having been frozen, the mushrooms tasted of nothing. A disappointment, in another time it was much better.
