Relais du Castera Nestier Reviews from The Last Year
Very unpleasant experience
Restaurant with pretensions but of very low level. Frozen bread. I ordered an assortment of cheeses for dessert and there was only one cheese and it was bad. First I had hummus with pieces of fish and flowers on top. Nondescript plate. From a restaurant where the chef advertises himself as "maitre cuisinier" I expected something more. Second bacalado. The dish was brought hot. Well, more like it burned. Very unpleasant sensation. There was also very little fish. To make matters worse, they said it came from Norway. Congratulations on kilometer zero! I think that haute cuisine today is going in a different direction....It would also be from Norway but I doubt it was cod....The fish was grilled with sweet potato puree. Nothing special. The price was expensive for what I ate both in quality and quantity. I left feeling like I had been fooled. I go around the area quite a bit but I won't go back to that place again.
good restaurant in the wonderful Pyrenean foothills!
The "Castera" is a well-known address in our regions of the Pyrenean foothills. We live an hour's drive away, and we combine our hikes in this beautiful area (go to Bise, close to the restaurant for magnificent hikes) with a meal at "Castera". Yesterday's menu was good, with a succulent gazpacho (but don't forget that at the start of a meal, you are hungrier, starters always have this advantage in the "prize list" of a menu) . Then on the menu was advertised as “trout and sweet potato puree”. It was good too, but perhaps it was necessary to specify "salmon trout" (or "pink", which is the same thing) - these are farmed trout fed, among other things, with shellfish powders. But we know that we can only dream of a wild brown trout caught in the nearby mountains. In France, it is protected and prohibited for sale. The dessert, fromage blanc with (too many) candied blueberries, was OK. The service is carried out according to the rules of the hotel school, the two young waiters are not overflowing with charm. This is learned through experience and discussions with customers. See you next time!
Reception non-existent
The meal was OK for a price that was a bit expensive, however. A non-existent welcome and an end of meal and departure from the restaurant without any waiter or staff to greet. In short.... I do not recommend
Good address and very warm welcome
A good table and a good welcome. However, we regret the lack of choice on the only 42nd menu. 2 starters and 2 main courses only. Nothing to complain about, however, about the dishes presented which were delicious.
it's good but menu a little expensive
foie gras as a starter or shellfish hummus Very good hake with salty bisque and rice then pastry dessert. Menu at €42 good but...not outstanding
