Paid $1000 to listen to drunk slobs screaming all night, will never return
Considering the price we paid for this Michelin star meal, I would've expected a better experience. My partner and I came here for a special anniversary dinner, and it was completely disappointing. While some dishes stood out, others not so much, but the thing that made the entire experience horrible was the volume that came from other people in the restaurant. This is a tiny restaurant, that only has 2 dinner seating times, for about a dozen guests. There were multiple groups of guests sitting at the bar, getting louder and louder, and drunker and drunker as the night went on. They were so loud that we couldn't hear what our waitresses were saying to us, despite the fact they were standing about 6 inches away from our table. Not only could I not even hear my partner, who only sat about 2 feet away from me at the tiny table in the corner of the restaurant, we stopped trying to have a conversation altogether because we were being screamed over by about half a dozen drunk people at the bar. To top it all off, I saw one of the chefs allowing one of the drunk/loud guests to go behind the bar and prepare the food with him multiple times. I really hope to God those dishes were not served to me at my table, because I did not want to pay a thousand dollars for food that was prepared by a drunk slob. There are times and places to be a loud sloppy drunk: a bar, a wedding, a nightclub. But not a Michelin star restaurant the size of my living room. What's also a laugh is that when booking the reservation, you pay for the entire meal, plus a 20% tip. Then you get a confirmation email telling you: "to avoid any disturbances during the dining experience at Omakase we keep our doors closed until our seating time at 5:00 and 7:45 p.m." So people walking in through the doors is more of a disturbance than 5 drunken slobs screaming over each other? Again, laughable. I've eaten at multiple Michelin star rated restaurants in San Francisco and across the country. Never have I had such a horrid experience that included not being able to hear my partner or my own thoughts at the table. This was the worst ambiance in any restaurant, let alone a Michelin star. Again I cannot believe we paid nearly a thousand dollars for this meal. Those drunk slobs and the chefs who were making it worse by egging on the drunks absolutely RUINED our anniversary dinner. I will never ever ever be returning to this restaurant.

Omakase was good though after delighting in many Omakase menus across the country, the experience did not stand out. The value/cost was excellent but after departing, I could not identify one memorable bite that left me wanting to try it again and again.

We were a party of six and came to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The place is located in the design center and seats less than 20. Non refundable payment is made in advance so be sure you donโt have a schedule conflict.
This Michelin star restaurant is not cheap but worth every penny. Jackson Yu, owner and our chef skillfully sliced a lot of very different fishes for our dishes. Fresh wasabi was grounded to help and a special ginger available only in the summer months was freshly prepared.
In all, we had 24 servings of either individual sushi, soup, or Tamayo. We invited the chef to drink Sake with us as he prepared our food and we had a wonderful conversation throughout the 2 hour meal.
At the end of the meal, Jackson walked us to Nubi and showed us the wagyu beef restaurant. His restaurant group also owns Dumpling Time, Breakfast at Tiffanyโs, Butcher Shop, Okane and several others.
Great experience but be sure to ask for Jackson as there are 2 other chefs that can be your chef for the night.
Poor service and policy
My wife and I were flying into SFO and decided last minute to go for dinner upon arrival. At 3pm we made our reservation online scheduled for 8:30pm later that same evening. Our flight was delayed due to bad weather in SFO and we updated Omakase via text message immediately advising that we couldn't make 8:30pm. Omakase responded asking if 9pm worked - we said yes. We arrived at the baggage carousel however our baggage did not make it. We texted Omakase again to advise of our situation and stated that we would not be able to make the reservation (again we booked at 3pm the same day!). There was no response. 25 minutes later we wrote back, again saying we did not have luggage and only the same full day travel clothes we had on - not in line with dress code. Finally they responded asking if we wanted to reschedule for another date - we declined has we were travelling to a wedding event in Napa. Our credit card was charged for the full cost of 2 tasting menus...$725.78 CAN. Interestingly in the act of offering us reservations for a different date Omakase implicitly waived this egregious penalty - my brother-in-law is a lawyer, we are considering whether it is worth further time and stress to pursue legal action. Shabby service considering we can prove our flight was delayed and that we didn't receive our luggage until 5pm the next day...I hope they take steps to rectify this situation...if they can't under legitimate circumstances, I think it should serve as a warning to anyone considering booking a reservation at Omakase.

I contacted Omakase to make my reservation. I spoke with Sunny. He was a ray of sunshine. So friendly, kind and helpful. The number he gave me allowed texts. I was able to ask questions about dress code, if I could change my reservation time, etc.
When we arrived we were greeted by Sunny. We sat at the bar. We ordered the $200 tasting menu. WOW! Definitely the most creative and fresh sushi/fish/meal I've had! I wanted to lick my plate clean for every tasting. Delicious. I was trying to avoid meat. When the gold leaf Wagyu beef was presented, I gave it to my son. The chef made me another tasting using fish and the gold leaf. Delicious.
Service was top notch. I would definitely return again.Note, our bill with tip was over $1,000 for 4 with no drinks. If you're looking for quality, freshness and a unique meal, this is the place to go.
4 1/2 stars
My wife and I made reservation for 6 pm on a weekday. By 4:30 pm, we got a text from the restaurant asking if we can come in at 5:30 pm because the next seating was at 8 pm. I told them that I will not be able to make it at 5:30 but will try to get there as soon as possible. We arrived at 5:45 and the restaurant was empty but we didn't get a table and get service until close to 6 and the service throughout the meal was slow. I was wondering why they try to get us to come at 5:30 but then took their time in serving us. With that said, the food was good though not excellent. The wait staff were all very nice, including the chef. We had a good time there.

I had dinner on a recent trip to SF. The 200 tasting menu was worth the price given the quality and quantity of the fish. Favorite was the sea urchin with salmon roe. A5 wagyu beef was also very tasty. Uni with custard was also devine. Received 12 Nigri pieces which were unique types of fish.

Reservations required for a 5:30 or 8:30 seating. Be sure to request seats at the sushi bar. There are a couple of tables off to the side who don't get to watch the artistry of preparing sushi. Yes, it is expensive. Dinner for two will easily cost $50 - $600 including tax, tip and sake or other alcohol. If that bothers you don't go. What is served is the freshest fish in the Bay Area, passionately prepared by one of three sushi chefs. A variety of fish and preparation that you won't see anywhere else. Arrive hungry. Although the courses are generally small servings there are a lot of them. This is a special treat that we plan on doing once a year.

Set menu, This meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect, food is perfect, buttery slice of seared Wagyu beef is incredible. Saki pairing available if you choose to go that route. Will return.

I love Japanese cuisine, and anytime I come to SF I would like to try something new. This has been so far one of the best Omakase dinner I have ever had. The food was superb, the chef/owner Jackson was fantastic and funny, too. The service very attentive, kind and gentle.
For the quality of food and the service I believe the price is fine.
Iโll certainly be back once in town again
Good food with nice sake pairing
This place is small with only accommodating less than 20 people. My dinner was almost for 3 hours. The food was good while the staff was very attentive. My favorite was egg custard with fresh sea urchin.
