Minami Toronto Reviews from The Last Year
Influenced by instagram, excitedly made a reservation here.
Inside is interesting, quite cafe like actually and seems a bit gentrified. It kind of takes away from the ambience, but on the plus side the open space and high ceilings make it great for business lunches and bigger crowds ( does get busy). The service was decent, not upscale but friendly. I came here specifically b/c they are known for aburi sushi and the gozen lunch set. The softshell crab was quite good, but the portion for price left more to be desired. Variety wise it was decent. I got the beef sukiyaki which was quite sweet in flavor. The salmon sashimi places were tender but not super melt in your mouth fresh. Sesame dressing on the broccoli was super yummy. Carrot salad dressing was a bit off and random. Overall the fish I would say is tender. However, the aburi sushi missed the torched bruleed flavor I was seeking. It's quite an aesthetic lunch set, but the main reason for lower rating was that the temperature of the food was so off. The sukiyaki was cold, side dishes like tofu and fried fish cold, and sushi was lukewarm. Its quite odd as we came around 1pm so it wasn't too late if they had prepared everything. Nothing was steaming as expected or stood out as fresh and it just took away from the experience. Overall, its pretty and fitting for finance district. Maybe since I'm from california I have higher expectations.

I got the kyoichi lemonade drink which was really good and refreshing. I really liked the flavor of the tropical syrup used in it. Then we got the signature selection lunch which was really good as well. I'm not a big wasabi fan and forgot to mention it as some of the sushi had it already on. Next time I will remember to ask for it without wasabi.

If you're not eating here you are missing out this hidden gem. The food here is so fresh and amazing. My favorite is the Minami roll- I could eat it all day!
What an amazing experience! The team at Minami really
What an amazing experience! The team at Minami really knows how to treat customers like VIPs Everything tasted super fresh. I find many downtown Japanese restaurants don't have the same quality as they used to. I was really happy to see minami keeping their standards. The team was extremely friendly and attentive. The place looks really nice and classy but not pretentious. Highly recommend the Minami roll, oshi( not too saucy like most places make it) beef sukiyaki, broccolini was really nice. I also enjoyed the carrot cake a lot! I'll be back! Thank you guys for a great experience.

Went in looking for a meal not an experience, and they delivered. My friend got sushi and I got the auburi chicken. Decent amount of people dining here. Was amazed how quickly the food came out!! It was great because we were hungry, but cocktails came out at the same time so it felt a little rushed considering the vibe here is definitely enjoy the company and ambiance a little. Our server did say she didn't want us to feel rushed, so we stayed to chat awhile. In a very walkable part of town. There's also public transportation (we used a Lyft). Food was flavorful, and portions were just right. Prices reasonable. Giving a 4 star because service was very average.

The interior design was absolutely beautiful with ribbon from the ceiling. We got a lot of plates to share and everything tasted delicious. The staff so all so kind and helpful especially with dietary restrictions. The cocktails were some of the best Ive ever had -- they tasted like juice.
2.75/5 FOOD | Brought my friends that were visiting town
2.75/5 FOOD | Brought my friends that were visiting town to try Minami! We got the sautΓ©ed wild mushrooms ($10), salmon crudo ($23), o-toro and caviar duo ($30), yellowtail oshi ($14.50), ebi oshi ($14.50), and albacore oshi ($14.50). Dude honestly nothing here was very stand out and the prices were way too high for what it was. The oshi only came with 4 pieces and none of them were great. Salmon crudo was grainy for some reason? The sautΓ©ed mushrooms were honestly probably the stand-out, the garlic and wine reduction were very good. AMBIANCE | It's nice inside but I am a King St W hater haha I don't like the crowd that restaurants on that strip draw out. SERVICE | Standard service that you'd expect for a higher-end restaurant. nothing stand out. VERDICT | Go to Miku instead LOL or tbh any of the popular kaisen-don places have the same quality fish for better prices.
What's up with the staring?
The staff at Minami made my (appropriately dressed and v well mannered) teenage daughter extremely uncomfortable by staring repeatedly at her during our dinner. At one point four staff members, including the bartender, were staring with zero attempts to hide. Minutes later a server held a tray to cover his mouth as he and a female employee stared and spoke together - he was more concerned about our lipreading skills than his inappropriate behaviour. Truly unbelievable. Otherwise the food was okay (we came because the excellent Nami on Adelaide was closed). I doubt we'll go back.
Came here for my birthday with the girlies.
It was also the winterlicuous menu. Have been meaning to try this place for quite some time and it did not disappoint! As a group of 5, we were able to split some appetizers as well as order from the winterlicuous menu. Food: - Calamari for the table. Ingredients were fresh, flavourful, crispy and crunch, complimented with some Brussels sprouts. - Oshi - salmon & ebi Oshi. Fresh, fresh quality ingredients made just right. The salmon and ebi were torched just right, drizzled with a sweet/savory sauce. Melts in your mouth. The flavor was just amazing. - Salmon crudo. A raw dish, they are known for. Fresh salmon, drizzled in yukke sauce. A sesame, soy umami sauce that compliments the fish just right. - O-toro & caviar duo. Sturgeon caviar, bluefin tuna belly over a bed of rice. Rich. Flavourful. Fresh. Yum. -To end off the meal, ordered Taro ice cream and it was so fresh!! Service: attentive, pleasant, kind & thorough. Would definitely come back. Amazing food.
We had a fun night at Minami with great food and awesome service.
We made reservations at Minami earlier in the week and let them know we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and upon being seated we received a hand written note from the general manager wishing us a happy anniversary, a nice touch for sure. Our waitress Betsy was very attentive and even asked if we want the hot and cold items delivered separately. We order a variety of items: Miso Soup (very good), Calamari (always a winner), Charred Broccolini (was a little too smokey), SautΓ©ed Wild Mushrooms (excellent and quite a broth), and two sushi rolls - Cucumber and Salmon (both delicious). For dessert they brought over, on the house, taro sorbet (excellent sorbet for sure!). The restaurant was packed and made for some fun people watching. If you are near King Street West and looking for dependable Japanese food, Minami is a solid spot.
Almost a 5 star
Was a sushi night and a friend recommended this place. Located right within the heart of downtown and next to the theater district. It is pricier than your βusualβ sushi place and you are not going to find usual menu selections on their menu. It is a combination of sushi and meats. We all ordered various dishes and noone was disappointed. Wagu carpaccio was great and was eaten before i had a chance to take a picture of it - so just take my word for it. Maci rolls were excellent and loaded with fish. I was planning to leave a 5 star review, but will leave 4 instead simply because - if you charge prices that you charge - service should come first. We were left sitting and waiting for a bill for over 10 minutes with table already cleaned - all while watching all the servers close out their bills as it was closing time. So until i called someone over - we were totally ignored. Should not be. Not that we were in a hurry. We werent.. just felt neglected. But i would be back. Place does have a nice bar and some fancy cocktails.
Had a great winterlicious menu with great value.
The pictures online made you expect a fancy dining experience. I would say, however, that it is pretty casual except for that one wall that is very picturesque. It only has a maximum of three people in that area so if you have a dining party over three, will not be able to fit there. The food was tasty and was fresh and focused on quality. The items are pricy and is smaller portions so would not come super hungry. Service was friendly and attentive. Would come back again.

We came here on a Travelzoo deal, 3 courses with wine pairings. Beautiful ambiance with modern decor and comfortable seating. We sat in the cubicles against the walls. Sushi first course was delicious, perfectly fresh, the oshi with Japanese mayo we had after a long time and it was also very good. Wagyu and the miso salmon second courses were done perfectly, Wine pairing was appropriate except for the pinot noir with the wagyu. Cocktails were yummy and service was good, Joy our server was a little distracted at first, then came around as the night wore on haha. I am taking off one star as portion size was smaller than expected and we had to order an extra roll (spicy salmon) and some edamame. We will be coming back to try other dishes on the menu.
Nice Japanese restaurant in Downtown Toronto
Excelent Japanese restaurant in downtown Toronto. Nice atmosphere and well prepared sushi. Waiter was very amicable and able to explain the options to us. We felt very at ease.
The Art of Sushi
Minami Toronto was a vibe and a great experience! From the moment you step in, you are greeted with warm hospitality. The ambiance sets the stage for an enjoyable meal, and the attentive service enhances the overall experience. The high-quality sushi and flavors make it a place worth visiting for sushi lovers.
NOT BAD :)
As per the title. Central location, convenient public parking 100 meters away. Chinese-run Japanese restaurant. Cold welcome typical of the management. However friendly service (indigenous) fairly varied menu of both land and sea even if most of the list is based on sushi & C. I must say that it is a little biased given the environment and the clientele but I must say that it was a good experience. Average prices. Worth a visit
