This place is incredible and the Michelin star is well deserved. Amazing that it's nestled in San Anselmo ! A rare treat.

Madcap, a one Michelin star restaurant in Marin, is a hidden gem that lives up to the hype. What sets Madcap apart from other Michelin restaurants in the San Francisco area is its lack of pretension. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, allowing diners to fully enjoy the exquisite flavors and impeccable service. While it would have been a nice touch to have the chef visit our table, the food more than made up for it. The menu offers a harmonious blend of Japanese and French influences, making for a truly unique and memorable culinary experience. The artwork throughout the restaurant is fascinating and provides a great conversation starter, while the genuine and kind staff make you feel right at home. As my 50th Michelin restaurant, Madcap was a special milestone, and it's all the more meaningful that it's right in my own neighborhood. Highly recommended for any foodie looking for an unforgettable dining experience, especially in Marin!
Very excellent cook.
Not just delicious everything, but also artistic design that you may find in a quiet hidden corner Im Marin County, San Anselmo. You will love it.
We've been going to Madcap for the past several years but
We've been going to Madcap for the past several years but realized we hadn't been since the pandemic and decided to celebrate an anniversary there recently. Although the prices are much higher than when we first had their prix fixe menu, the quality was pretty much the same, if not better. There were a few dishes that were absolute standouts in my mind - perfectly balanced flavor combinations, beautiful plating... the kind of dishes you wouldn't mind having seconds (or thirds) of :) 1. Dry-aged Flannery ribeye - beautiful crust, but still perfectly medium rare - I could go back tomorrow just to have this again. 2. Ora king salmon - when I saw it came with a red wine reduction, I was a bit skeptical of whether the delicate salmon could stand up to the red wine sauce, but I was so wrong about this. Perfectly executed, the salmon had the lightest, crispiest crust, while still being warm in the center and super delicate. 3. Stonington sea scallop - I'm a sucker for sea scallops and this was a delicious prep. The scallop had a beautiful crust, but since they were on the smaller side, I'd say they were a tad bit overcooked based on my own personal preference. Overall, the composition of flavors in this dish was spectacular and would've topped my list of the dishes had the scallop been a bit more tender. 4. Chicken tortelloni - rich creamy sauce, black truffles, and morels - what's not to like? If you're drinking red Burgundy for dinner, this dish is absolutely made for Pinot (IMO). While all of the dishes were good, some felt less polished or we just weren't as big of a fan of the flavor combinations/textures. Among them were the shrimp hasami (mine wasn't particularly crispy and with a rich satay sauce, it just felt like it needed some sort of acid component to cut through it all) and sadly the abalone/kaluga caviar supplement ($35) - impressive ingredients on their own, but combined in a way that, while perhaps visually appealing, was somewhat difficult to eat and I didn't find that the flavors were as cohesive as other dishes. That being said, what I like about Madcap is that they continue to innovate and experiment. Some of those dishes may not be my personal favorites, but others may love them, and it's great to know that no matter how often I come back, I'll always experience something new. The service is exceptional, but without being too stuffy and formal. Whether you're dining alone, as a couple, or as a group of friends, you can relax, enjoy the delicious food, and have a great time without feeling like you need to sit up straight and whisper to each other :) Lastly, they have a phenomenal wine list, especially bottles from Burgundy. The prices are reasonable (I looked a several bottles and they were about 75-100% above retail, e.g., $50 retail bottle might sell for $100 on their list), especially for a Michelin-starred restaurant. They also offer a beverage pairing ($100), which was mostly wine but also included some sake. The corkage fee is $50 (quite steep, IMHO) per 750ml bottle with a limit of two bottles per table.

A friend recommended this place to me - mentioning it was a Japanese/French tasting experience. The mix of cuisines were too intriguing to resist, so I found myself at Madcap a week later. It was definitely an enjoyable experience overall; from the cozy, intimate ambience, to the incredibly well designed & tasty courses topped off with impeccable service. My favorite dishes of the evening were the Stonington sea scallop & Somen, uni, oyster plant veloutė topped with caviar. Highly recommend if you're in the area - reservations are a must. I'll be back!

Madcap is a fantastic restaurant in San Anselmo with a delicious menu that leaves little to be desired. Attentive service, a quiet environment, and fantastic food awaits. Our experience here was flawless, we enjoyed a broad tasting menu and wine pairing. The trout, caviar, and egg dishes were among our favorites. Definitely worth a visit for someone looking to explore some of the finer restaurants in the North Bay.
Loved our experience at Madcap.
Food was excellent service great and the environment was fun and enjoyable.
Excellent Holiday Meal
We enjoyed the Christmas weekend menu. Food was exceptional - one dish had caviar, an egg, and other items and it was absolutely out of this world. Thoroughly enjoyed the wine pairing as well.
Great meal, needs a better story
Just what you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. They only offer a tasting menu, and while the price for the basic tasting menu seems like a bargain at 165, they offered two supplement dishes which you would be crazy not to order considering you're already there, making the total around $200 $250 for the experience. When I say experience, that's really what it is, as you would expect from a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant. It's not really dinner so much as it is theater. If I had one qualm, I would say that the servers did not really do much to tell the story of the tasting menu but all of the dishes were perfectly cooked and presented. Side note: we are gluten-free, and they really did a great job accommodating us with a replacement dish for their tortelloni and a special dessert instead of their chocolate cake
We had great time at Mad Cap.
Every course was stunning in both presentation and the flavors evoked. The service was as quietly unobtrusive. Even the dishes used in each course were beautiful and unique. The whole experience was magic.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
