M. Wells Reviews from The Last Year
Food was amazing.
The spot was really cool! Service not as personable as I like but it's fine
Everything delicious, as always.
Foie Gras carrozza was the standout but everything was good.
RUN, DON'T WALK.
... to try the Montreal Smoked ravioli stuffed w brisket, but start with the French Onion soup. The ravioli pair well with the Bavette w/shitake butter and their world class fries. Bavette, as Chef presents it is succulent and flavorful. Their desserts now available are too good to pass up. The Pana Cotta is creamy awesomeness, the Crepe Baklava are stellar and the coconut cake slice is heaven on a plate. You need to add this place to your rotation because every time you come there's something new and dream-making.
Amazing food and service.
Low key location. Recommend the shrimp and oysters. Very cool ambiance
This was my second valentines dinner at mwells.
I really just love love this place. It's such a great vibe here and the food is always on point! For this Valentine's Day there was a prix fix menu, it was $95 for 3 courses. I got the chicory salad (which I realized I do not like chicory, it just had the most bitter bitter taste and while the pistachio and apples were good it didn't help much with the bitterness) my hubby got the rabbit roulade which was super delicious. For entree I got the sirloin with bone marrow and potato gratin, the gratin was sooo yummy!also the sauce on the steak was divine and perfect. My hubby got the lamb shank which was cooked really well to and very good, it just fell off the bone and fell apart into his mouth. Last for dessert we had coconut cake and the chocalte mouse with caramel and pomegranate reduction.... C'est magnifique! This is definitely our go to ever valentines now. The ambiance is great, it's a hodge podge of vintage vibes, and the service is always wonderful!
It sounds like hyperbole, but M.
Wells actually changed my life. I discovered their Tourtières during the pandemic lockdown when we were ordering food in rather than going out grocery shopping, and it piqued my interest in Quebecois food. As soon as restrictions were lifted, we dined at M. Wells in person and every. single. thing. we ordered was amazing, My husband and I were actually inspired to visit Montreal for the first time ever *because* of our frequent excellent experiences with M. Wells. If the server recommends something seasonal to you, get it. Our first time, we were recommended the blueberry pie - which doesn't *sound* that impressive - but it was just the absolute platonic ideal of Blueberry Pie. All the blueberries were fresh, ripe, juicy, and sweet. The pie crust was flaky and buttery. I'm not even particularly a fan of blueberry pie, and I just know I'll never top that. Ever since, we've tried to go in semi-regularly and spin the wheel on its frequently-changing menu items. Anything they have in season is amazing, flavorful, and well-prepared. This place is such a reliable gem, and those are so rare in this city.
This is one of the best restaurants in NYC, I have never
This is one of the best restaurants in NYC, I have never had a bad meal from them my visits there sparked a love of Quebecois food that led me to visit (and fall in love with) Montreal and ultimately how to cook food in this style at home. My wife and I first learned about M. Wells when we started ordering their meat pies during the pandemic. We Brits like meat pies, so my wife thought this would be a treat for me, it wound up being an obsession for both of us. We kept ordering these frozen pies and reheating them to eat over the course of a few days and every time they were the best pies I've ever eaten. We also ordered their maple pies for dessert, which were equally delicious and impressive. We still order these whenever possible when we visit the restaurant. It's hard to pinpoint my favourite food there, since their menu is constantly revolving, but some stand-out dishes include Duck in a Pumpkin, one dish centered around a tuna collar and a blueberry pie that I completely loved, even though I don't like blueberries. I strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for elevated casual dining in Queens.
Lobster risotto creamy dream, buttery velvet venison.
Fellow diner got the burger and was in heaven. Cozy respite from the cold and top tier service as always. Cocktails were perfection. A true unique dining experience at this neighborhood gem!
Very nice ambiance.
We went there at night, and inside was filled with warm lighting with some very interesting artwork on the walls and shelves. The waiters are extremely accommodating and willing to discuss their menu with you, as it changes every so often. We were hoping to order bone marrow but were told that it was only available certain times of the year. Overall, we were quite satisfied with our meal, although initially felt that the Wedge salad was presented a bit lackadaisically and the meat bits difficult to pick at with a fork, but overall the taste was good. For the main course, we got the bavette, which was absolutely delicious. For dessert we had the mousse service, which is wheeled in a fancy, very cute cart with options of pistachio, maple, chocolate, and one other mousse with whatever toppings you liked. Service and the taste of the food was there, but may suggest that for the price, it would be worth to improve slightly on presentation of the food.
Recently moved to LIC and came to this place.
Cute atmosphere, I liked the decorations in the restaurant and how it was converted from an old warehouse. Food tasted good overall, but like how all LIC places it was overpriced. Would get more bang for your buck in manhattan than LIC to be honest. Some food was kind of obviously microwaved bc the temperature was not even throughout the food. And the ravioli was great but costed about $6/piece, so we now always joke about expensive things by comparing to the price of the ravioli here . Overall worth a try though.
What’s all the fuss about?
The great reviews given to this restaurant are a real head scratcher. We made the trip from Manhattan based on the reviews and were sorely disappointed. 1. The prices put Manhattan to shame. A small baguette for $5. A slice (and not a particularly large one at that) of coconut cake for $15 and oysters at $4 each. 2. The ambience was fine but nothing to write home about. 3. The food was average, so if this is a Michelin recommendation I would have to question their assessment. There were four of us whom each ordered a different entree (averaged $40-50 each) and none of them stood out. Mine, the lamb tagline, though quite flavorful was an inferior, fatty piece of meat. 4. The server was attentive and no complaints about her, However the restaurant levies a 20% service tax (even for small groups) that you land up paying tax on too (makes little sense). 5. In a nutshell highly overpriced, unremarkable ambience and average food. I wouldn’t venture back if it was a block away from my house, much less a 25 minutes drive.
