Le Bon Saint Pourçain Paris Reviews from The Last Year
Absolutely delicious
Looking for a restaurant near Saint Sulpice and chanced upon this. Small space but never felt crowded. Lovely staff and absolutely delicious food. A grown up restaurant.
Damage
So in terms of cooking, nothing to say, it's very good, even very very good, there is a real cook and that's a pleasure. The service is average, we show off like I know everything and the customer is a bit reduced to user standards. The wine list is totally lunar, stratospheric prices and almost impossible to find references for less than €150. How can we only have La Grange des pères in Languedoc for €500? Mind-blowing and stupid. Too bad is the word that best describes my experience here.
Excellent bistro in Paris 6eme
A great small bistro next to Saint Sulpice. The menu is limited but both entrées and mains that we had were excellent. The wine by the glass, like the food, varies daily and was also good. The size means that reservation is probably advisable.
Differential welcome at BON Saint Pourcain – For ordinary mortals without glitter.
For my daughter's birthday, we wanted to have dinner at BON Saint Pourcain, we reserved for 9:30 p.m., the restaurant was not full, we were received politely. The order comes, we are put on a board where the menus are written without any explanation about the dishes, in short, the person just put the board in front of us. A few minutes we come back to take our order. A few minutes later, customers better dressed than us with Channel bags sat down next to us, to my great surprise, we presented them with the menu board, with a comment on each dish, which I find normal, in this kind of establishment where sometimes the raw material is reworked and where it is interesting to know the composition of the dish we order / the same goes for our neighbors at the table next door when ordering desserts. We left there disappointed by everything It’s really sad, it’s unfortunately a common attitude in Paris, which we don’t encounter at all in big cities, London, NW… Please know at BON SAINT POURCAIN, you are received differently depending on whether you are dressed in little moccasins, regulars of the 6th arrondissement or an ordinary person. In my opinion, it is not enough to have good cuisine, the welcome is as important as the food. I hope my comment will change things.
Rude restaurant
We have travelled to Paris in both June and September for over 30 years. We have always enjoyed our restaurants and find the French people extremely friendly and gracious. We have never been disappointed in all the years we have been to France. We reserved at this restaurant approximately four weeks before our reservation. We requested an outside table as we have not eaten inside sense covid. This request was confirmed. When we arrived at the restaurant we greeted the sole waiter with a friendly smile and greetings in French. Without even greeting us, he stated "you will eat inside tonight" although they were still several vacant tables outside and we have seen on a previous visit that they moved extra tables outside. When we informed him that our reservation was for outside, he stated that he had sent an email to our 5 star hotel that afternoon informing the hotel that he could not seat us outside. The hotel concierge who we have known for 15 years did not ever receive any email so I am not sure where he sent it but irrespective it is not good enough for him to decide after we reserved four weeks prior that we would sit inside. He was also very aggressive and rude especially as I am 79 years old and my wife is 72years old. He was actually shouting at us and even the Diners were shocked and shook their heads. Obviously we left the restaurant as we were not going to be abused by a waiter who felt he was a big man in his little castle. It was quite obvious that he was seating the French people outside and as we were American tourists it did not really matter to him where we seated. We immediately called another restaurant we know called Café Varrene which was completely full inside and outside but the owner Sylvain was gracious enough to tell us to come to the restaurant and he would bring out a special table for us. We went to Cafe Varrene and indeed he did bring out a table and we had a fantastic night reinforcing all we know about the French generosity and friendliness. I suggest that no tourist ever visits Le Bon Saint Pourcain but we highly recommend Cafe Varrene especially if you do not want to be confronted by an abusive waiter because at cafe Varenne you will have the absolute opposite experience with a well-trained friendly professional waiters and the great owner Sylvain Didier and his wife
