Chickpea Restaurant Vancouver Reviews from The Last Year

The food here was amazing! I was blown away at how realistic the vegan poached egg was. When you cut it open, the "yolk" comes out like a real egg... definitely didn't expect that and it was a pleasant surprise. Portions were large but it was a bit pricey. Taste was definitely there though. It was very busy, hard to flag the servers down, but they were very friendly. Hoping to be back soon to enjoy their hafla (which looks insane)! One thing they can improve on is the Turkish coffee. I stirred mine and ended up drinking some of the coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup...

One of the best vegan restaurants in the city and one of my personal go-to's. Portions are large and the food is always fresh and well-made. Staff are friendly and helpful. If I could afford to eat out every night I would go here and never get sick of it! :)
Good food horrendous service
This restaurant is very cool inside and has great food but the service was horrendous. It took the servers 45 minutes to even notice we had sat down (a group of 9 people) and bring us water then another hour to bring us our drinks. We had to track the server down to get food ordered and then it took forever to come. Overall we were there for three hours for a meal just because the service was so bad. Disappointed because the food was excellent. Not sure I’ll return again.
We had the brunch.
The service could have been better. Three of us paid $40 each for $140, and they served us a small meal. We could have ordered one meal and put it on the table. Did not pick up the dirty dishes. I had to remind the staff to get our desserts-ate and poorly done. The lumberjack dessert was one dessert cut into three servings. Lame. I used to go all the time, but the Saturday, Jan 20 experience was terrible. Don't order the brunch. I wish I did not go. I won't be back.
disappointing mushy chickpea fries
I only ordered chickpea fries for myself. regrettably, I'm both somewhat impressed but also disappointed, mostly disappointed. the mashed chickpeas created a similar texture to that of mashed potatoes. however, they should box the food and sauce separately for fried food takeouts because even though I started eating the chickpea fries immediately when the food arrived, it was already mushy/soggy. the few small pieces that weren't soggy were somewhat crispy still. had the restaurant packaged the sauce separately and the fries arrived mostly crispy I'd probably enjoyed the chickpea fries a lot more.
Ive been here a few times, I always order the chickpea
Ive been here a few times, I always order the chickpea fries. they are usually crispy and delisious however the last time i went they were different, a little soggy and cold. this was extremly disapointing as they are usually my favorite thing to order. Server accidentally brought me the wrong food but was super nice about it so i forgive her. all in all great food good vibes. Just needs some work around the edges
Don’t Patronize a Rude Business
Chick Pea is the rudest, most disrespectful business on the block. Its back alley is actually a shared street with a residential area where families with young children, retired folks, and people who need sleep for their jobs and businesses reside. In spite of our (the residents) number of pleas to schedule their food deliveries at a reasonable time, for example after 7am, they continue to have deliveries around 5am. The Sysco refrigerator trucks are incredibly noisy because they have to keep their refrigerator system running, and because of the tail gate ascending/decending, and the clanging of loading/unloading of the boxes and delivery cart. Imagine that in your neighborhood a few times a week! We, the residents, are happy to coexist with respectful businesses but Chick Pea ownership has proven repeatedly to be thoughtless and selfish. Their food truck rolls in between 10 and 11pm and depending on who’s operating it that day the act of parking and clean up can be obnoxiously loud and disturbing. This summer their food truck had engine trouble and the neighbors were subjected to the sounds of mechanical engineering well past 11pm. We, the residents, understand full well that we share a street with commercial endeavours and that we cannot afford to live elsewhere at the moment, especially the retired folks who live directly across from Chick Pea and have been there long before Chick Pea’s existence. We are asking that, as we respect their right to do business and make a living, that Chick Pea have the decency to recognize that they are part of a neighborhood and that creating a culture of respect for their neighbors is a part of being a successful business. When they first arrived in the neighborhood I went with a friend for lunch because I like to support our local businesses. The mostly fried offerings tasted like cardboard. It is fitting that the food of this restaurant reflects the soul of its management.
Super cozy restaurant with planters in every corner! I love
Super cozy restaurant with planters in every corner! I love how green and vibrant it feels inside while still feeling super comfortable. Our server was attentive and friendly. The chickpea fries and hummus were sooooo good. The pineapple mockito was a little bland. I was looking for a more tart and minty flavor. The calamachick tasted great, too. The only downside is it's a little pricey for what it is. Limited paid street parking.
Find the food truck.
The truck is fantastic. Great food and service. The restaurant provides the same food, smaller portions with service that makes you feel like you are an annoyance. The truck has never let me down. I have been to the restaurant three times and each time I leave wondering why I subjected myself to it.
Don't discount the buzz! Non-vegans and vegetarians alike
Don't discount the buzz! Non-vegans and vegetarians alike will appreciate the high quality of the food served here. When I first visited Vancouver, I looked up a few vegan/vegetarian eateries to eat at. Last time I passed by, I intended to stop in, but circumstances intervened and I was unable to do so. Be wary of the parking situation; the area has a few meters and there are some zones where you can't really park during rush hours. Nevertheless, I came here for the hummus and had the shawarma platter, and I loved everything on it. The chickpea fries were my fave. Simply put, there were much too many fries for me to consume, but they were fire. There's enormous portions, and the prices are really cheap. Nonetheless, I like the chickpea fries immensely. The shawarma was fantastic, and the flavor was out of this world. Wish I had some chickpea fries to take with me. This place can get a little packed keep that in mind wherever you go.
A great place for vegan food in Vancouver with lots of
A great place for vegan food in Vancouver with lots of options! We got the kasum hummus plate and thought the portion sizes were quite large. They also have free refills of the pita bread which allows us to make sure that none of the delicious hummus goes to waste. We also got a side of the chickpea fries which were a bit small for the price but very tasty. Highly recommend for vegan food!
A must stop for brunch in Vancouver.
Make sure you come hungry, the portions here are big. Lots of options on the menu for all types of breakfasts. We had their play on eggs benny the eggs benechick w/ lox & the truffled mushrooms, a burger (spicy halloumi), and a side of hummus and all left with leftovers. Definitely recommend splitting one or two things.
Huge portions, wonderful flavor, fun vegan and gluten free
Huge portions, wonderful flavor, fun vegan and gluten free options, overall 12/10 would recommend For the average person (the hummus plate option at least) = 2 meals easily. The hummus itself is perfection, and for the "cauliflower of life" main entree note it is a whole heckin cauliflower!!! Side salads are super flavorful too, could've had 20. Big yum. Fairy baklava was good, small portion, I wouldn't believe it was vegan ice cream if you told me!!! Inside was super cozy, fun decor makes you feel like you're in a mildly psychedelic nature scene so we felt right at home. Staff was super personable too and there wasn't a wait (lots of seating). Drinks had heavy pours too which was nice!
Huge portions!
I love a fully vegan restaurant and this one is no exception. It's such a chill place with a cool vibe and the food is delicious. The portions are huge, so come with a big appetite or something to take your food home in!
