2800 Kitchen & Lounge Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Won't book again
My friend and I are cruisers. We often leave from Port of Los Angeles and have always stayed at the same hotel the night before we sail. This trip, we decided to do something different and we stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton. We will not make that mistake again. The Hotel is very tired and needs sprucing up in the rooms. The fridge in our room looked like someone had scratched it all up with something. The walls were dirty and just not a welcoming atmosphere. This may sound trivial but I practically had to get on my hands and knees to find the roll of toilet paper that was tucked so far under the bathroom counter that I couldn't see it. When we have arrived at other hotels before check in time, we have always been told our room was ready and we could go in. This time we were told to come back in an hour. That was fine. It was 2:30. We went back at 3:30 and were told it would be another half an hour. I do realize check in time was 4:00 but if they didn't want us there until 4:00, then tell us!! When we did go back at 4:00, the lady said "your room SHOULD be ready now" It was and so it should have been. There should not have been even a question of it being ready by check in time. I agree with a lot of the reviewers about the union protests. I believe the hotel should have some sort of disclaimer telling people there is a labour dispute so people have a choice of crossing into the hotel. Had I known, I would not have booked this hotel. I was a union employee my entire working life and would have respected the worker's protest and not patronized the hotel. The one bright spot of the hotel was the shuttle and the shuttle drivers. One driver took us to a restaurant a few miles away and picked us up after dinner and the other driver took us to the pier the next morning. Both drivers were very personable and got us where we wanted ago.
Overcharged in the restaurant with terrible resolve
So this review is simply about the overall service attitude and experience. From the server to the management. We stayed one night over Mother’s Day weekend. I had no issues with room. However when we went enjoy breakfast the following Monday we were overcharged on our bill and when I called to explore what happened it took 4 phone calls and the manager I will to take responsibility for the mistake or refund other than through Expedia! We came as a party of 5, we were nothing but polite and had zero complaints about the food. The service was fine but not good. I came downstairs and had to purchase a round of coffees before dining as nothing was included. I didn’t complain, and tipped on that bill. I also mentioned we would be back in a couple hours to dine. We sat and started a new bill, a new round of coffee and had the same server Victor. Apparently Victor looked at us and assumed we were not the tipping type, despite us treating him with respect, because he decided to tack a 21% service fee on to the bill, without even bringing it to my awareness. So I tipped 20% on top of that because I always do. Even though I had to ask for a coffee refill Long after our cups were empty. When I inquired about it the manager stated since it’s not listed anywhere on there menu he is in fact required to let the customer know if a service fee is added. The manager also let me know that the service fee is only applicable to parties of 6 or more! I have a lot of experience in the food and beverage industry and the way we were prejudiced was extremely offensive. The server was greedy and should not have made any assumptions about us, especially since he was wrong. The management is also inadequate for not taking responsibility for a lack of training their staff to be hospitable and then refuse to eat the cost for a mistake and act of rudeness on their behalf. I have been a manager placed in the exact situation. Our company resolved the issue first with a sincere apology, and then a refund of the extra tip without question because that is the right thing to do. Just for context my complaint is not even that I paid an extra $30 to the server just to eat in there restaurant on top of the tip he added. It’s that this specific location seems that acceptable. My advice is to learn professional hospitality, and don’t assume the worst of people. If you make a mistake the party inconvenienced should not be further inconvenienced and at the bare minimum apologized too. I had much better experiences at other Hilton locations. And I’m super disappointed that such a nice venue would be the opposite of hospitable. If you decide to stay there, because the views are nice and so was the front desk, be sure to check your bill if you decide to eat in there restaurant. Or just don’t eat in their restaurant. Not a great way to end a nice relaxing trip with my family.
Consider other options
Sadly this location isn't up to the DoubleTree standards. Negatives - The hotel needs to be refurbished. The common areas have stains on the ceilings and carpets and are generally grubby. The room, at first glance, was in better shape, but upon closer inspection, it was pretty grubby, too. There is an ongoing labor dispute with the owners and hotel employees. As others have mentioned, you're treated to a protest several times a day featuring chanting, banging, and the use of a bull horn. Positives - The employees with the exception of one surly gentleman at the front desk were very nice and friendly. The food at the onsite restaurant was good. And the hotel offered a complementary shuttle to the cruise terminal. However, the negatives far outweigh the positives. I would not stay here again unless I knew that things had changed dramatically.
Stay away from this hotel
Stay away from this hotel. There are Union protesters in the afternoon at 4pm and early in the morning at 7 AM very noisy. The protesters just want their health care back. I’m going to check out and go to a different hotel not affiliated this hotels
Union Protestors at 7:30 AM
I flew in after a delayed transcontinental flight and got to the hotel after 2:00 AM. Imagine my surprise when I was awoken at 7:30 by pro-union protestors banging drums and screaming outside my window. Then I come down for breakfast, and they’re right outside the front door, somehow even louder I am pro-union, but I’m even more pro-sleep. Great hotel, but I won’t come back without confirming the union has been appeased.
Stopped in for some appetizers and cocktails.
Food and drinks were great. Terrific views. Awesome service from Rick. Will be back soon. Highly recommend. Please bring back your Happy Hour you had before 2020 Covid.
Very nice hotel!
The room was very nice. We had a beautiful room overlooking the marina! There was a loud obnoxious union protest when we arrived. Drums, mega phone, loud and obnoxious. Staff did best to run interference and gave us a room nowhere near the noise. Staff in restaurant was very friendly. Small menu but good food. We are only here for one night but are very pleased.
We had the nicest server for breakfast.
The setting is not fancy - it's basically the lobby of the hotel, but it does overlook the marina. Breakfast was good and coffee hot. Unfortunately the hotel is going through some labor negotiations so there were protestors with drums and bullhorns outside on the patio. Hopefully that resolves soon.
Worst hotel customer service experience
I was disrespected twice by staff at this hotel. So much so I couldn't believe it. I've stayed at more than a few of the Hilton properties in Los Angeles and I have never come across such snarky, irritated and entitled staff. This review only applies to the two women I experienced who work at this hotel. One was at the front desk, and another working in the "restaurant" taking orders. In the first incident I called the front desk to ask a question, and the woman who answered had a major attitude when I thought she couldn't hear me. She basically snapped on me. I was stunned at the way she handled my call. Second incident was the next day when the woman at the register walked off while I perused the menu without saying anything. Once she came back she asked, "Are you going to order anything because I am leaving in 2 minutes". Once again, I was stunned. I could only laugh in disbelief. As for the daily protest, the manager Peter was so nice when I called to voice my concerns. He apologized several times and offered to make things right. Peter, I suggest you send your staff to hospitality training ASAP! Or are they just disgruntled? Either way it's highly unacceptable for them to snap on guests especially us loyal Hilton Honors members.
Stay far away from this hotel
This place is just terrible. There were no light bulbs in the entry of the room. The lights in the bathroom are the very old LEDs which throws a dull yellow light and creates a dark bathroom. The lamp in between the beds did not work and the bathtub did not drain. I stayed there because we had a women's retreat. We were not told that there has been extremely loud picketing daily for 9 months! We were awakened early in the morning and had to deal with the noise during our meetings. It was chaotic and unconscionable.
Noisy Protest Wake-Up 7am
If you don’t plan to leave the hotel by 7:00 am, do yourself a favour and book somewhere else. There is an ongoing protest by union workers. It begins at 7 am sharp with drums, horns, and loud speaker. There is no sleeping from 7-9 am and then it started at 11 am again. You can hardly hear the front desk staff when they are making so much noise outside the front doors. The beds and room were decent, but the noise and lack of sleep are frustrating.
Chef Tony was awesome glad I revisited this Doubletree
Chef Tony was awesome glad I revisited this Doubletree after I stopped going because of lackluster pretty much everything there still is no buffet, but the food drinks are all worth your attention. Great spot in the marina with a nice view.
Food was fine.
Service was, especially for a hospitality-based business (Doubletree Hotel), abysmal. Was not particularly busy, but two different workers came to the front while we were waiting to be seated without even acknowledging us. We stood there for (I timed it) 6 minutes and 23 seconds before someone asked if we've been helped. On our way to the table, they asked if we want anything to drink, and rather promptly did bring those to us with menus. We then sat for another 8 minutes and 14 seconds before being asked what we'd like to order. I hope someone opens a cafe near to here that will provide this place with a little competition and incentive to improve, or otherwise just make a killing off of the guests who should go elsewhere.
Came here just before 7pm on a Friday to try the happy hour
Came here just before 7pm on a Friday to try the happy hour - happy hour is 3-7pm on Fridays, not 7-10pm like some of the older photos on here show. We decided to stay anyway to have a drink and appetizer. Drinks were okay, but what was especially disappointing was that very basic nachos (chips, shredded cheese, jalapeños, sour cream) took over 20 mins to get to the table. Will be back for the actual happy hour, but for drinks ONLY. The hotel seems really nice and you would think with such a great location they would prioritize elevating their food.
This is a great location and has so much potential.
The food is... well, not good at all. I really hope they find a way to rethink this opportunity and seriously improve.
First time visitors here.
We are locals and were hesitant to go to a hotel for happy hour. But we wanted to check out something different. The view is great, bartender was friendly and made us a great Margarita (as promised). The place was empty and shouldn't be. Locals are overlooking a nice option. Walk the Marina and drop in for happy hour. We did, we enjoyed it and we will be back!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
