Very good food in a cheque setting
I opted for the Business Lunch Set Menu, as it was incredibly reasonably priced for a two star restaurant. However, I should’ve checked the small print, as the dishes were rather liquidy. There was a lemony drink to start, a broth, a soup, and a soupy dessert. They were all delicious, but in my opinion, didn’t belong together and sort of spoilt having a drink. The solid courses were amazing - top notch dim sum and an incredible prawn and broccoli dish. So I would recommend, doing a bit of research and plan your choices in advance! The staff was excellent, although I had a slightly later sitting of 1:30pm (midweek), which meant that my dishes can thick and fast - and. I mean, one after the other, as the place closes at 3pm. I was a lone diner, but it still felt very rushed. Therefore, the experience could’ve been better…
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, nice ambience, well worth its Michelin 2-star!
We had a great time in our last visit to this Michelin 2-star restaurant back in end-2019. Today we returned, aiming to revisit the delicious food from Chef Siu Hin Chi, and explored dishes other than the tasting menu which we had tried last time. Arriving at Nexxus Building in Central, walking up to the first floor of the two-storey restaurant, the staff greeted and showed us to our table, located at a corner which allowed for good privacy and conversations. The décor showed the same comfortable luxurious vibe we both liked very much. We ordered Marinated pig feet with spices 滷水豬腳仔 ($150) to start. The pig feet were infused with the aromatic and complex flavours of the marinade, while not overly salty. Chewing the bones and skin made me wish I had a glass of beer at that moment. Good. Next came Crispy suckling pig with roasted duck 乳豬拼燒鴨 ($340). Underneath the crispy pig skin was the steamed bread slice, thoughtful for the chef to do this to reduce the fattiness, and the pork was full of flavours from the marinade. The roasted duck was equally impressive, without any gamey note, but rather showing a delicate taste from each bite of its tender meat. Very good. The third dish was my favourite in the evening, Braised crab claw with pomelo peel in abalone sauce 鮑汁煎釀鮮蟹拑燴柚皮 ($320 each). Signature of the chef, the meaty crab claw was stuffed with bouncy shrimp meat, deep-fried and then braised in a very delicious abalone sauce. On the side was the pomelo peel, thick and cooked perfectly, without any bitterness while absorbing the sauce completely. Probably the best pomelo peel I had tasted. Excellent. We ordered a few seasonal dishes including Pan-fried King Prawn with Water Chestnut, Crispy Prawn Head with Sweet Chilli Sauce乾燒鴛鴦大花竹蝦 ($280 each). The huge king prawn was served two ways, with the body stir-fried with some fried scallop shreds, Chinese celery, and water chestnut, with the naturally sweet taste of the prawn highlighted from its lighter taste components, and the crunchy texture complementing. The prawn head and tail were fried and then cooked with a sweet chili sauce, stronger in flavours and appetizing. Excellent. The other seasonal dish was Braised White Asparagus with Yunnan Ham in Bouillon 上湯雲腿扒白露筍 ($320). The white asparagus was very tender, without any fibres in chewing, with a delicate taste. Taking the flavours from the ham and the supreme broth, a dish that might seem simple but really highlighted the quality of its ingredients and the details in the preparation of the broth. Very good. For dessert, I picked Baked Sago Pudding with Lotus Seed Paste 蓮蓉西米焗布甸 ($66). The pudding was quite sweet, with a fragrant caramelized surface and a creamy texture of the sago mixing with the lotus seed paste underneath. Rewarding and fulfilling. Very good. My wife had Double Boiled Papaya with Snow Fungus and Peach Resin 萬壽果燉雙雪 ($60), and we also had Crispy Rice Ball with Black Sesame 營致雷沙湯丸 ($60) to share. The sweet dumpling was very smooth, with a touch of chewy, having delicious black sesame fillings. The restaurant also had its unique style of coating with the black sesame powder which gave extra fragrance to the dessert. Excellent. Service was very good, with the staff attentive and friendly. I would appreciate they could explain in more details on the ingredients and cooking methods for the dishes though, but this is a common issue I have written so many times for local Chinese restaurants. Total bill on the night was $2515. Definitely worth its 2-star status and a good place to enjoy wonderful cuisine in a comfortable environment.
Be the first to ReplyAverage Restaurant at the Michelin Costs
It is not a restaurant where you would like to come back or recommend when you are in HK. Average food and average service. Extremely overpriced for what you are getting there. We had roast duck, fried vermicelli, chilly fried king prawns which were nothing special. Their suckling pig is on their main menu, however you are paying $380 for a plate of 8 small crispy pigs skins with strange taste. Food presentation was also average. Definitely this restaurant is not even close to Michelin standards. In total it was Disappointing experience. Not worth wasting your time and money.
Be the first to ReplyDelicate deliciousness
I visited for lunch on a Saturday. The food was elegant and delicate, but the flavor was clear. It was very delicious. The interior of the restaurant was calm and comfortable, and the restrooms were well-maintained, which was nice.
Be the first to ReplyA unique restaurant
A nice restaurant with unique dishes ranging from affordable to expensive. The restaurant is not in what I would call a convenient location but easily reachable by taxi. The waiters are courteous and helpful in explaining the make and ingredients of the dishes we ordered.
Be the first to ReplyA true culinary dream !
After finishing the mandatory 7-days quarantine, I was there 2 times, 1. August 2022 for lunch and 3. August 2022 for dinner. The restaurant serves Cantonese classics re-created by a team of highly experienced, super creative chefs, and the service is incredibly good. The YING JEE CLUB truly deserves their 2 Michelin stars, and I will certainly come back at my next visit in Hong Kong !
Be the first to ReplyTasty and good presentation
Centrally located very close to IFC. The decoration in the restaurant is ok. I loved their dim sum with some interesting ingredients combination. The presentation of the food is also nice. It is very tasty. Their menu also have a lot of choice. Pricing is on moderate to expensive side. It is worth it.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not WOW
Good lunch but not 2 Michelin stars quality. The signature crispy salted chicken was delicious but the other dishes are just good without a ‘wow’ factor. In general, the dishes we ordered were a bit oily and not very well presented. The service was good but the place was quite noisy. May be I have a very high expectation, just not what I am looking for a 2-star restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGood dim sum
I’d meant to go to Jing Jee Club for quite some time. I finally had lunch with a friend there yesterday.
We ordered a variety of dim sum. Some of them were excellent while the others were good.
I’d heard some good reviews about the crispy rice flour rolls with XO sauce and they didn’t disappoint at all. Mushroom dumpling with black truffle and beetroot was particularly memorable. Baked sago pudding filled with lotus seed paste ended my meal on a high note.
There’re 2 dim sum menus (one for 1st to 15th of the month and the other one for the later half of the month). I’ll return to try other dim sum.
Nice Restaurant but it fell short of a Michelin two stars rating
When I was told about this dinner, I did not know about Ying Jee Club's two star Michelin rating. When I stepped in, it was clear that it was a fine dining experience. The staffs were attentive and friendly. The decor is modern and the seating is comfortable. Since we pre-ordered our menu, service was timed right. The first two dishes - crab claw and stir fried lobster - were delicious. The presentation was lovely and the dishes tasted excellent. We then had a lovely roast duck dish and my friends enjoyed them very much. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender and filled with juice. Unfortunately their signature dish, deep fried chicken in fermented beancurd sauce, felt short. The batter was on the heavy side and the marinade was weak. The next dish was a nice stir fry vermicelli (thin glass noodles) with egg, which was okay. The wonton in chicken soup with vegetable was alright too.
Of course the pricing matches its location and venue. I was not surprised but could not help wondering how they got the two stars Michelin rating. One star might be okay, but if the Man Ho Chinese Restaurant in JW Marriott only gets an one star Michelin rating, there is no way that Ying Jee Club should get a two-star rating. Man Ho is better in all areas, including service, quality of food, and decor.
If you are hosting a nice dinner with friends especially non-Chinese, this restaurant is perfect, but I am not sure if this will be the kind of place that I will go with my local friends. If I want fancy Chinese food, I will rather go to Man Ho or more local choices, like Seventh Son.
Pricey but Authentically Healthy
“Ying Jee Club” is a Michelin 2-star Chinese restaurant in Central. The main dining room is spacious and well air-conditioned. However, table cloths on the bare marble tables would make our dining experience more pleasing to the ears. Service is exceptional. The Cantonese cuisine is of high quality and healthy, though a bit on the pricey side. Highly recommend the flavorful and vibrantly impressive “Steamed King Prawn with Egg White and Crab Coral” (HK$ 390/person) and the superb “Pan-Fried Crab Claw with Shrimp Paste, Crispy Conpoy and Caviar” (HK$ 260/person)!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Went here a while ago and the food was disappointing.
The menu changed so they didn't have the chilled sago cream with avocado and chocolate which was served in 2017 according to a menu photo on openrice.
The choice of chicken was impressive, they had Crispy Salted Chicken and the Crispy Chicken.
We had the crispy salted chicken which was golden and crispy.
Normally I don't bother with Chinese chicken wings but you could see it was deep fried and uniformly crispy.
As expected it was crispy and salty.
The rest of the stuff was average especially the noodles which were bland but definitely very suitable for the elderly as the sodium levels were low.
It is probably better dining here in the evenings as the lunch dimsum menu is limited and there are not many options to choose from!
Fantastic Dim Sum
Relaxing weekend, dated my best food buddies for dim sum. All dumplings are really delicious & exquisite, highly recommended their Deep fried rice roll with XO sauce that’s really good taste & very special.
Overall is good!...comfortable, delicious & good service etc.
Special thank you Hostess Connie, Director Edwin Ngai & Manager Chris, They all are very kindly & good experience for servicing us such suitable to order portion & very polite!
A Little Restaurant with Amazing Chinese Food
I’ve always heard of a saying that you can easily walk past a great place without knowing it was there. This saying probably suits Ying Jee Club best, this restaurant is located right next to the Hang Seng Bank Building and opposite to IFC. Even though this restaurant is not the easiest place to find, it is totally worth for a visit. I visited Ying Jee Club with a good friend, the food and services were truly exceptional. We tried quite a few dishes, and one of the notable ones were the A5 Wagyu Beef and the Steamed King Prawns with Egg White and Crab Coral! I would like to specially thank Edwin for his attentive service. If you are serious about Chinese food, you have to make sure to check this place out!

Excellent Cantonese classics
We had a small intimate dinner for four old friends in a very worthy Michelin starred restaurant in Hong Kong. Certainly merits one star; whether it deserves its two stars is debatable. Service, while good, could be more top notch considering it is now officially a two star restaurant. Overall very good, enjoyable and delicious Cantonese food cooked to a very high standard but not that special or mind-blowing an experience. Would be totally content with it as a one star but expected a bit more from a two star.
