Dinner
Attentive service, excellent meal, well prepared and presented, We ate at 5.p.m. so the restaurant was quiet.

We enjoyed everything about this restaurant. We had the lentil soup (a nice big bowl), the babaganoush, Yafa salad, and lamb chops. Everything tasted great, service was excellent, and fine ambience.

I first dined here in 2014 on the recommendation of a friend and have returned every time I stay in Carmel. I have never been disappointed. I almost always start with a salad, their pear salad being an especial favorite—leaves, sliced pear, walnuts, feta with just a tiny amount of vinaigrette. The artichoke is another excellent way to begin. I am especially fond of their Petrale sole and their Mish Mish chicken. Their rice sides are always nice complements—the brown rice seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice is a favorite. At the top of the dessert list is Desert Dates which I strongly recommend. Pitted dates sautéed in butter and served with slice almonds and walnuts. (I make this at home. Caution: stand over your sautée pan; it only takes about five minutes turning dates as browned and if you are not careful they will burn. You must have the serving plate(s) beside the stove so you can quickly remove them.) I usually have the house wine which I have found usually enjoyable, with a good pour, and reasonablely priced.

My wife and I wonderful dinner at Yafa. Our server was very knowledgeable, and attentive but not intrusive. Each component of our meal was excellent, including the Lentil Soup, Lebanese Hummus, and Lamb Flank. The Rose Pudding for dessert was remarkable, with a light texture we had yet to observe. Following our meal the next night at a different restaurant, we wished we had gone to Yafa again!

Absolutely perfect! My son and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The service was superb, and the food was even better. We actually discussed returning another night during our long weekend to try the actual menu, since we were so impressed with the specials. I had the lamb shank and my son had the sea bass, we tried the dolmas as an appetizer. I wish I had an entire loaf of the light, airy bread to go with the tapenade.

Top notch, authentic food with friendly and attentive service. Butternut squash ravioli, dolmas, roasted pear salad, and dessert dates were incredible.

The menu and restaurant looked interesting when I booked our reservation. Also, the ambiance was appealing when we took our inside table. We enjoyed our experience overall, but I guess our expectations were greater given the level of restaurants in Carmel. I know that the owner and staff try hard to please, but there are other possibilities that offer better.

I made a reservation for 8 at Yafa on July 20th and the famous guide recommendation was the main factor that took me there. As a Lebanese descendant, I love Mediterranean food and I had great expectations. Upon arrival the atmosphere was a little strange, maybe due to labor shortage, something was not right. I was told that the owner was Lebanese from Tripoli and the menu showed it was a Lebanese restaurant. We took a while to be seated and a long time to have our orders taken. The waiter was always in a hurry, speaking very fast, and leaving when we were going to ask a question. After waiting a bit more, we finally got the food. The Baba Ganoush was a green liquid that didn't resemble it was made with eggplant, it was terrible. The Mezza had tiny little samples of several items which the feta cheese, the feta dip and the artichoke were below average served with an insuffficient amount of Greek pitta in small slices instead of Arabic pitta bread (with pockets). My $29.95 lamb kebab had 4 small cubes of lamb that were uncooked and served cold. The $25.95 Petrale Sole, The $34.95 Special Seabass and the $31.95 Lamb Shank were average. The Mismhmish Chicken was terrible and it was not finished. The only entree that get a compliment within our group was the $34.95 Filet Mignon Special that is not a Mediterranean meal. A 20% service charge was automatically added to the bill.
The portions were small and some of us needed to eat at a convenience store close by.
I doubt if Yafa deserves the Guide recommendation. Avoid.
Restaurant was average.
I ordered a Kabob and thought I would received meat and vegetables on a stick but the meat was shaped like a sausage and not on a stick. I was disappointed.

For our second night in a row we ate at Yafa (take out of course due to covid). Tonight we had the seafood pasta and the butternut squash ravioli; man o' man! Both dishes were great and one for the record books. Last night I had the lamb and that was great too. Which was better? I can't tell you because they are two different categories. This will be a regular stop whenever we are back in Monterey/Carmel. Dea and Rita are great hosts! My wife said the beet salad was delicious. My wife has to eat gluten free and nothing she had bothered her stomach. It was sweet to her palate. Thank you! (this is the age of COVID-19 when the governor closed all the restaurants except for take out only. Despite the challenge, Yafa still serves great food!)
