My wife and I found this to be the best Cantonese Chinese
My wife and I found this to be the best Cantonese Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. We both enjoyed the Mongolian Lamb, and the pricing was reasonable; the service and ambiance here was warm and inviting. We had dinner here twice trying the beef with broccoli on our second visit.

Went there last night for dinner and it was the worst Chinese food I have eaten. Ordered dims sims and got dumplings, on the way out they try to tell me they were the same. MMM sorry one has prawn the other has meat. That was the give away. Ordered the roast duck for main, BIG MISTAKE. Absolutely disgusting, what meat that was on the bones was so fatty and you couldn't eat it.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was awful.
The food left me with an MSG headache and the staff were awful. We had to virtually beg for food. They forgot parts of our order. It was pretty bad.
Be the first to ReplyAhh Westlake.
It's been a long time. As in 30 years. But I came back because I'm now working in Melbourne again. I stood out the front and watched the lobsters in their tanks when suddenly one was plucked out. Anyway, I went inside and was greeted by a nice waiter and shown a table. It was half full but know it gets very busy in the evening so recommend you book. The menu is obviously newer but the food was still as good as I remembered. The Cantonese style food is something of a favourite of mine. I tried the xiao long bao and siu mai. Fabulous. I wanted to try and egg tart but alas, there wasn't the time as I was due back at work. Next time I'll try the spring rolls as I saw them being served on another table and they looked great. Service was generally pretty good. Some staff are quick and efficient, others look bored. Prices are reasonable. Will come again to make sure it is consistent - consider it my duty to other diners (LOL). Next time, I'll return for a Yum Cha just like 30 years ago. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

Arrived from Brisbane for the weekend and looked forward to genuine asian meal in Chinatown. So disappointed in the food , one dish looked so unappealing ย It was beef noodle dish and looked like brown mush, couldn't eat it and staff never enquired if the meal was to our liking. When leaving to pay our bill $98 foe two people ( this included a couple glasses of wine) the man at front counter (proprietor?) made no eye contact and was curt and to be honest quite rude! ย We will never return.

Was pretty busy, but the food was worth it. Everything was very tasty, fresh and clean. Very authentic Cantonese food. The chicken feet, prawn dumplings, and shumai were awesome. Service wasn't amazing, but was fine with me since the food was so good.

My family and I had a wonderful meal tonight; our waiter and one of the managers (?) gave us their best service. We did splurged a little with the crab and abalone, but we had to give the abalone a try. I have eaten my share of abalone but never an Australian 2-1/2 lb kind! ย The ginger scallions crab was delicious and perfectly prepared. The minor down side was the over salt on the veggies and clams. We will definitely come back on our next visit. I highly recommend West Lake if you are looking for good Chinese (sea)food.

I got wonton soup and beef with vegetables. Maybe a tad pricey but it was a generous serve and good quality.Decent service, good menu. Good option in Chinatown.

Went there for yum cha it was just OK - good if you can't get a table anywhere else... Don't try any of the more experimental stuff where they mix scallops bacon and cheese.

We met a servant who was really nice and patient. We will definitely go back.

Arrived from airport looking for bedtime snack. Restaurant was full of diners having seafood. We had savory porridge for $11 and stir fried snow pea leaves for $19 and beer for $6. Service was quick despite the large number of patrons. 1 am Monday morning when we left. Place still full.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a company yum cha lunch.
We got mostly the standard yum cha dumplings, most of them tasted average. The beancurd ย dessert was quite smooth and nice though. The bill came out to be more than $30 per person, which was more than expected for the quantity that we had. My only conclusion was that the dumplings were overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyThis place isn't bad if you're just interested in yum cha.
They have a very impressive selection of dumpling dishes available which are all decent, maybe not fantastic, but still pretty good and quite worth the price. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends; the service is pretty terrible, and the place is always totally packed on the weekends. Larger groups might find it a little difficult to get a table here; I suggest no more than 4 people during their busy lunch service.Do not go here for anything other than yum cha, because their pricy dinner menu is pretty average. Don't order any "live" seafood from the front of the restaurant - not only is it extraordinarily expensive, the seafood is also half dead, and in the case of the abalone, completely dead. If you want Chinese food for dinner, please, I highly recommend you go elsewhere.
