Weissgerber's Golden Mast Inn Okauchee Reviews from The Last Year
Past it's prime
Disappointed for this long time favorite. Friday night fishfry was a flop. 3 of the 4 came out cold. They prepare in quanity and ours must have been sitting a long time before being served to us. Love the atmosphere, but there are a number of better options in the lake country area for a fishfry. I think management has slipped and this place may be past it's peak.
This could go down as the worst dining experience ever.
Granted it was Easter Sunday and it was a self service brunch, so you have to give them a little wiggle room. But the overall experience was terrible. Patrons were packed in like sardines. It was difficult walking between tables because it was so tight. The food? Not sure that's what it was. The ice cream was warmer than the chicken, potatoes, and everything else. Little flavor. Ended up leaving most of it on my plate so I could go home and have something to eat. The price? $50 per person for x#xx##. The good part? The wait staff worked extremely hard to make up for the owner's greed and deserved a generous tip. Will never, never, never go back. We were ripped off.
We were going to have our September 14, 2024 vow renewal
We were going to have our September 14, 2024 vow renewal ceremony and reception here. We have been here before for several events. The food and service had always been good. However, in planning our vow renewal with Golden Mast was a disappointment. The banquet contract states we should have had a tasting but we're told only weddings get tastings. The only difference is that we are already legally married....everything else was the same. That being said, we spent ovgğ We were going to have our ceremony and reception there. We are having an officiant to perform the ceremony. We would have been having the same ceremony and reception that everyone else is. The room Golden Mast offered us was supposed to hold 50 people. We stated we were going to have 50 guests. Yet, when we asked about room setup, we were given seating for 36 guests. When we asked what specific table sizes so we could purchase the correct linens, we were made to feel like we were "bothering" the banquet coordinator. The way the room was set up was not going to allow for all of our giests to view us. We expressed concerns about that room but was told there was not another area due to the time of year. We had also asked about use of the bridal room, on multiple occasions, to get ready on-site prior to our ceremony. Golden Mast could not commit to an answer. Rather, they told us, if the wedding party in the larger room upstairs was going to have their ceremony on-site, it would not be available to us. We inquired about having pictures taken at the Gazebo, but, again, because of the other party, that would be off limits. We were told our ceremony would be held buy the fountain. It was actually going to be held by the lighthouse (with a water feature). There was no room to have a DJ or even dancing if we created and managed our playlists connected to Bluetooth speakers. In the end, we moved to a different venue and have been treated so much better than at The Golden Mast . We feel the whole ceremony and reception was not significant tho them. We feel that this was an unfortunate situation.
Very Disappointing

However, in planning our vow renewal with Golden Mast was a disappointment. The banquet contract states we should have had a tasting, but we're told only weddings get tastings. The only difference is that we are already legally married....everything else was the same. That being said, we spent over $200 on dinner for two so we could do our own tasting. We were going to have our ceremony and reception there. The Golden Mast continues to provide a great dining
The Golden Mast continues to provide a great dining experience. The food is great, wait staff are all excellent, and the atmosphere can't be beat. The walleye fish fry is outstanding.
WOW - what decade is this?
WOW! This is either your grannie's supper club or a mistake on the lake. It does not know what it wants to be - a German restaurant, supper club, bar? I disliked the decor. Lots of wood reminiscence of the 1970s with a hodge podge of decorations - family history, German knick-knacks, nautical art, local photos, etc. The exterior looks much the same but fortunately, it was dark so you couldn't see it. Send them the name of a good interior designer. There is no dress code so anything goes. There were men in jeans and t-shirts to women in sequins and full-length dresses. The best things are the excellent servers, the freshly baked bread, and the red cabbage. The bread was served with butter and some airy spread that might have been the cheese pate. It was good but didn't taste of cheese. It is a huge place and a busy weekend night so nothing appeared to be cooked to order. I had the German combination of duck, weiner schnitzel, and beef rouladen. This large platter seemed like it had been hanging out under the warming light for too long. The duck skin was rock hard, and the meat was dry, cold, and stringy. The schnitzel was cold and soggy. The beef was like a leftover Sunday pot roast smothered in jar gravy. A friend had the prime rib which looked good but again was on a huge platter. There were no members of the "clean plate club" except the guy who had a salad. It was pricey for so-so food. I'm guessing they stay in business because of the location on the lake.
I am not a fan of going out to dinner on holidays because I
I am not a fan of going out to dinner on holidays because I feel the food is batch prepared and the prices raised just because it can be. But tonight we went to dinner for NYE and the meal was perfect all around. They offered a holiday menu which had nice options. The drinks menu even had some interesting holiday offerings which I had to try. I would name everything we ate but there was too much to list and only at dessert did our server recommend a slightly different option, and she was correct. A big thank you to Janis for her wonderful service. She was efficient, never missed a beat and seemed unflappable the entire evening. She made us very comfortable. We also made a point of tipping the busser because they work incredibly hard, especially on busy holidays. (We always tip the busser on the side.) Nice touch at the end of our evening was a quick check-in by the management (owner?) to make sure our dinner was to our liking. Yes, it was and I am happy to say Golden Mast helped change my mind about holiday dining. They know how to do it right.
Superb! Went there for a group dinner outing on a Saturday
Superb! Went there for a group dinner outing on a Saturday night and everything was fantastic. Decorated beautifully for Christmas, with tasteful live music, we shared a selection of appetizers, entrees (both traditional German dishes and prime rib), and desserts (Bienenstich cake in particular, though they were out of Black Forest cake). Our server was fun and the right amount of "attentive" and "left us alone". Can't wait to go back, particular in the Summer!
Terrific venue for ambiance and lake views.
Food is consistently good for the price. Wait staff is very good.
Ambiance is nautical and it has an amazing view of Okauchee
Ambiance is nautical and it has an amazing view of Okauchee Lake. It has a boat launch. The food is excellent. I have had awesone steaks here but fridays visit was for their fish fry. Served family style they bring out potato salad, coleslaw, cod fried fish or broiled Cod, french fries, potato pancakes, applesauce, and tartar sauce. Its all you can eat so they bring more of whatever you run out of. Prices are reasonable. Service was EXCEPTIONAL. Our server had only been there a month and he did a phenomenal job running for our large group of 11 people. Desserts looked good but we all got ice cream drinks. They are big - maybe share with someone else. And those were great too. Nobody left hungry and everyone was VERY happy with the food and service!
Two stars only for nostalgia sake.
Went there with my wife for our anniversary tonight. I feel bad for our server Patrick. He hung his head when we called out the chef for serving us instant mashed potatoes and dried out spatzle. The filet was overdone and my Classic German Combo was like getting the last plate in a 400 person wedding buffet. We apologized to Patrick for having to serve us that with a smile and walked past the hostess who was combining cleaning spray bottles by the front door on the way out. Got dessert and a drink somewhere else to make light of the situation. I feel bad for Hans.
I will definitely be back.
This is a first class supper club on the lake. I ordered German food and it was authentic and delicious. Our server, Julian was excellent. I highly recommend you visit.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
