🤮 1/5 - This property does not care for people with special needs, disgusting policy

The Waldorf Astoria has an interesting policy for Hilton members who perhaps want to stay there on points. The short version: This property has purposefully chosen to put those who book with points into rooms normally reserved for those with special needs (mobility, hearing, etc) in an effort to make a few bucks. Reserving these rooms ahead of times for able bodied points users and removing them from the pool for people who NEED them to book. For reference before I go into it, hotels set their points prices, and which categories cost what, so this is a fully conscious, purposeful choice by this property. Hilton's can set 'Standard' points values, and several levels of 'Premium' points rooms which cost much more and are usually nicer. At this property, however, the only Standard (cheapest!) rooms you can book are their various handicap accessible or special needs rooms. What this means is anybody looking to stay here on the standard level of points is forced to take available room inventory away from those with special needs, and the hotel SPECIFICALLY has planned it this way in order to try to make some bucks off those rooms for special needs they had to build. Have mobility issues and want to book a few days out? Sorry, inventory may likely show zero since reserved by people staying on points. The hotel does claim it will move people out of those rooms when they check in and into regular rooms (so why aren't those regular rooms 'Standard'?) but that doesn't change the fact that until that happens, those rooms are booked and unavailable for people who actually NEED them to book and the fact that the hotel has specifically chosen this practice of utilizing these special rooms in an attempt to make some more money and keep these people from booking -actual- Standard rooms in their inventory. This issue was raised with the hotel's general manager who does not care.
