Very Reasonable Japanese Restaurant
First, it could be a 5 Stars if it has chairs. I understand you want to get the customers out as quick, but it is stingy. The food is very good. The sashimi are fresh and good portion, the combo is nice, the rolls are unique and the miso soup could taste a hint of clam. The tempura just like most of the other restaurants now: no flaky flakes but batter..,, Overall good value and tasty!

This was a very tasty sushi place (don’t miss the grocery store downstairs!) Service was fast on a busy Friday night. I had the bagel roll and my wife had the shrimp tempura roll. I enjoyed an imported Japanese craft beer so much during dinner that I found more of it (and cheaper) at the grocery store downstairs. We bought some unique desserts at the grocery too. It was a nice evening.

Decent meal- not my favorite Japanese meal but it was good. Staff seem to be knowledgeable about gluten free. Most of their menu is not gluten-free. Even their sushi they rice said they said contains gluten miso soup contains gluten. That was all disappointing. They did make me a bowl with chicken, egg and plain rice and had gluten-free soy sauce but it was very plain. The rest of our party enjoyed their meals. It was good Japanese just not amazing Japanese. Busy spot with very bad benches. Not worth the drive from Alphreatta.

Very good sushi. Fresh fish, lovely sides, great gyoza. Loved the spicy tuna sushi. Spinach was good. Great sizing too.

I’m a GT student and went here twice, once with a friend at lunch and another with my boyfriend for dinner. Both times was great! They have a nice selection of Japanese food items to choose from. Their online menu is the same as the menu you’ll use in store with a QR code. The fish is fresh and tempura is crispy. The nigiri and sashimi can be on the pricey side, but their lunch and dinner sets are well worth the money for their portion sizes.
In terms of restaurant atmosphere, it’s very home-y with traditional Japanese sushi house decorations and uniforms. It’s a little small but has two unisex restrooms and each wooden table has a cute soy sauce pot. Staff is friendly and tended to us well. In the background, there’s the sound of the chefs cooking and Japanese music. If you like anime, you would recognize a couple anime songs haha.
The location is right across from an Auto Spa and next to a gas station, so it can be difficult to find a parking space next to the area. I walked there from GT campus so it’s not too bad, but I do tend to be more cautious walking through. Nevertheless, I loved Wagaya and would definitely go again!
Small Japanese grocery store in west midtown Atlanta
If you need Japanese groceries near midtown in Atlanta, this is a good choice. Here are a few tips to help, though.
Parking is in back of the shops, opposite 14th Street (turn on State Street to access).
This place does not take cash. They also have a $5 minimum on credit cards. That isn't necessarily an issue, just be aware.
They have a wide selection of Japanese groceries (by my standards, anyway) and about 1/4 of one aisle (single-side) dedicated to western stuff too.
A Midtown/Westside Must
Great bang for the buck. A perfect spot to meet friends and have a great bowl of Ramen with a side of sushi. Prompt service, friendly staff and a vibrant atmosphere that reminds me most of Japan of any restaurant in Atlanta. The Red and Black Ramen is my personal favorite!
Check them out - I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Cheers
ok
As others have noted, service is friendly and fast. Food - sushi & sashimi - was unexceptional.. not bad but also not standing out in any way. I liked the hokku (fish) but sushi felt tired. They have a large selection of drinks but on the expensive side ($9 beer, $11 sake).

This is a small place on14th Street but very popular at lunch. The food was real good and best of all service was prompt and wait staff polite. We had a number of different things and all were really good, I do wish they had more than one choice for hot sake however, which was a tad pricey.
