Be the first to ReplyCame here because I was recommended by so many people.
It was delicious but I felt like it was overpriced. The homemade bread was delicious and they offered hot chocolate after the meal too. However the hot coco was sooo thick I felt like I was drinking brownie mix.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, service, and food.
Had a wonderful meal for our daughters 23rd birthday. Seated right away on a beautiful table with white linens and roses. Everything was spot on and service was outstanding. Worth the drive if your not in SLC.

Amazing atmosphere and to die for food. The sampler is a perfect dish to get a taste of everything. The lemon gelato is something i dream about.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent veal - great flavored sauce.
Seafood was a bit disappointing in quality. Overall, would go back but avoid seafood.
Be the first to ReplyWow!!! It was so good we went back the next night!
Wow!!! It was so good we went back the next night! Incredible!! We had the house wine the first night, very nice. The second night we had Lee's Lemon drop. Fantastic! Lee is the bar tender (she's from Chicago area. So are we) she was killin it alone bar tending for the whole restaurant. We just sat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation. We ate a pasta sampler for appetizer. So delicious. Each so different and the flavors were magnificent. They give you a piece of bruschetta & bread with a very unique dip. I could have just sat there and ate only that all night The bruschetta was excellent. The bread dip was an olive oil, white bean, garlic and a touch of anchovy. Not sure what else but soooo delicious. You must get the lemon gelato dessert with sea salt and local honey. Just take a bath in it! So good. Everything was fantastic. The staff were wonderful. It is pricey but it needs to be. All high quality ingredients and the chef is incredible with the combination of flavors. I have a very sensitive stomach, (TMI) No problems. Highly recommend Valter's

We dined at this restaurant two nights in a row!! It was that good. Luigi from New York was fantastic as a waiter and made excellent suggestions on what to share and what we should order with a group of 8 people. The restaurant is crowded but you are not being bumped like in some locations. Everyone one of the people enjoyed the food and will come back again.

We have been going to Valter's for many years, but it seems that since he passed away, it is not the same. This last Saturday Service was slow, it was disorganized, our server was frustrated with his help and especially the bartender. Some people had to wait 15 minutes to get their drinks. They have raised their prices considerably. BTW, authentic carbonara does not use cream.

Last evening I had the pleasure to be a patron with a few close friends at Valter's Osteria in Salt Lake . After a brisk walk in the Salt Lake air we were graciously greeted by the hosts and promptly seated. I was immediately impressed with the ambiance and pleasing aromas the filled the air and immediately teased my taste buds. Then Gustavo our server introduced himself and promptly brought over a plate bruschetta smothered with perfectly ripened tomato's. Delicious but no pic we ate it to fast, ok I did . . Then the night got kicked up a notch with a terrific bottle of vino ..later becoming Bottles .....of 2020 Antinori Tignanello. It turns out this was a perfect compliment to our dinners. So yes , more is better. We were all hungry so we ordered right away after a detailed description of the nights specials by Gustavo, not once but twice. I think we wanted to test him and see how well he memorized the list ... he passed . I personally couldn't resist ordering the mushroom gnocchi that was highly recommended. The flavors, texture and combination of seasonings in the sauce just danced on my taste buds and was even better then expected. I highly recommend sharing this with friends as gnocchi is so filling and this needs to enjoyed by all . For my main course I couldn't resist my old go to in a traditional old school first class Italian restaurant like Valters Osteria. So I couldn't bypass the temptation of eggplant parmesan. The four medallions were perfectly prepared, not under or overcooked which frequently is an issue when ordering eggplant. They were served in a literal pool of sweet, puréed mouth watering tomato sauce . If it wouldn't of been rude and inappropriate I would have drank the remainder left after finishing my meal, and probably saved a few drops on my white shirt ... that would have accompanied the gnocchi mushroom sauce for later. Then Gustavo brought out a plate of biscotti with a absolutely divine cup of chocolate dipping sauce. To finish Gustavo recommended a tasty port to close out my amazing meal. But that wasn't enough our friend Jim celebrated his 43rd birthday with us and all the severs gathering for a nice happy birthday celebration, and a glass of homemade gelato that was simply off the charts . So no better way to spend a memorable evening than with good friends, eating outstanding Italian cuisine , sharing conversation, fine wine and Gustavo bundling it all together making for a wonderful dinning experience. A must go place to dine while Salt Lake Until next time ......,

Wow!!! What a night!! What an experience!!! I felt like I was living the life of the rich and famous. My pocketbook is much lighter, but it was worth every penny!! So, now for an honest review of food, service and ambiance! Food: the food was high quality and having much of it (Caesar salad, pasta, and gelato) prepared table side was really fun. However, the price was a little high. I had the pasta sampler. It was fun trying 4 pastas, but not worth the price. Will get something different next time. I was nervous to try the salad because of the anchovies. I'm glad we did. We shared one salad with 4 of us. Wise choice!!! Plenty!! I appreciated that our bread basket was seamlessly full!!! The dipping sauce was unlike anything I've tasted. Yum!!! Now, for my favorites: the table side lemon gelato, cappuccino and cup of chocolate left me wanting to come back!!! Oh my goodness!!! That's what dreams are made of!!!Service: our meal was great, but the service is what truly made the night. I felt like I was in a movie. Our waiter (Luigi) was a total professional. His passion for his career was exuberant!! He was sarcastic as all get out, but had great stories to share as the crowd dwindled. Arturo was kind, proud and accommodating! I believe the person who cleared our plates was named Luz. She was so efficient, quick, aware, and on top of every detail. She, along with the young man who made our salad had great smiles and friendly dispositions! The service is why I didn't mind the higher prices. Ambiance: the space was awesome. It was sophisticated, but not stuffy. Elegant, yet comfortable. Homie, but uniquely designed. I felt like New York and Italy meshed together and landed in Salt Lake. We dined with another couple and our evening cost close to $435. And, I am the only one who had a glass of wine. It was a true splurge. Was it worth it? As we say in Utah, HECK, YES!!! I'm already planning my next trip back!
Be the first to ReplyI am so blown away by this restaurant.
Our waiter John was fabulous and truly made the experience unforgettable for our group. He gave wonderful recommendations and was so patient with us taking our time deciding on what we wanted throughout the night. We came to celebrate a birthday and it was everyone at our tables first time there This restaurant takes you into a a perfect bubble of happiness and gourmet food. There wasn't one thing that we tried that wasn't amazing The pasta was all wonderful especially the ravioli. The bread was bottomless and so good! The deserts were perfect especially the lemon gelato (do not leave without the lemon gelato) The drinking chocolate and biscotti at the end was so sweet and the perfect cap to the meal. We will be back again soon. Loved the ambience loved the service. Loved the food!

The food from the appetizers to the entrées to the desserts to the drinks, are all amazing. The ambience and service added to the experience.
Be the first to ReplyFood was soo good.
Enjoyed every bite, and enjoyed the lovely atmosphere. I ordered the carbonara and it was amazing. The reservation system was a little bad. Had a reservation for 8:30 and only got seated an hour after that even though they kept saying it was only going to be 10 more minutes of waiting. I did get a free piece of bruschetta and a hot chocolate at the end of my meal which were delicious.

My husband made reservations for our anniversary and we loved every minute! We ordered the pasta sampler as a started then I got the carbonara as an entree and my husband got one of the pork dishes. For dessert we got the tiramisu and the lemon gelato. Everything was absolutely amazing! But if I had the choice, I would only eat the spinach ravioli from the sampler and the lemon gelato. They were to die for! I loved that the meal didn't feel rushed. The staff always asked if we were ready for the next dish.

Very tasty, fun restaurant where there is a lot of plating or preparation at your table. I would say it is priced too high though for what you get.

It was the Saturday before Valentine's Day, so hard to get a reservation for anything earlier on the evening. Food was good and large portions. Interesting food presentation.

The and the dip is out of this world. Glad it's free because they could seriously charge for it. Love the location. It's close to all hotels and near the arena where Jazz plays. The room was full of Jazz fans at restaurant. Even through it was full I didn't feel cramped or hard of hearing. Staff was great. We had a guy named Troy. Every one of this recommendation was spot on. Due to Utah law, I could only have 1 drink at a time. With a rough day, Troy did a great job of complying with the law while feeding my Old fashion need. Thanks Troy. Manager Arturo went around frequently making sure customers were happy and supported the staff. Liz made sure our breadbasket's bottom never saw day light during dinner. This place to dine downtown!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the top 5 best Italian restaurants in the USA.
The food is amazing. Fresh, hot and finished/prepped and plated at your table. The service is as good as it gets. The ambiance and buildout is top notch. There weren't any negatives other than we ate too much. Bravo!!
Be the first to Reply"The best" "feels like you're in Italy".
..Please stop. Now I had low expectations cause uh it's not exactly an area known for their Italian food. And it turns out, those assumptions were spot on.The "finest" Italian place in Utah apparently translates to the 33rd finest in the West village of New York. What's stunning is to combine the absolute gross food with the audacity of their prices. I'm sorry, but $85 for a chicken with what looked like Kraft mozzarella microwaved? That's actually incredibly hilarious.I've eaten chicken parm at probably 40 places - this one is far and away the worst. It was a thick, likely frozen chicken breast. One bite and it was a disturbing texture. I didn't eat anything else. The waiter didn't bother to take it off...The pastas they're preparing we're an odd and tasteless addition. Lastly, the randomness of the 1 ounce of hot chocolate as a "touch" to an awful meal just reeks of how out of touch the staff and management here is.Ultimately, I know the food standard is low here but wow! This is an all time pass.

I've been to Italy and my passion for pasta goes beyond a good red sauce. This restaurant has the BEST lasagna outside of Italy, no jokes! Service? You will feel like in Italy, with very warm waiters, no rush to pay your bill, and no empty glasses. I would definitely come back, I don't live in UTAH but this will be my MUST STOP if I am nearby.

Shout out to their hostess from Hawaii with all the Aloha Spirit :)She was gracious in seating us at our table. We all enjoyed the conversation with her as we settled in. She even asked if we wanted to check our coats. The dining area is large and they really pack it in! Our table was very close to others, which made it easy to look over and get ideas on what to order. For patrons that want more distance from others, you can certainly ask for another table. We heard two couples ask to be moved and I'm sure that had nothing to do with our table being the only Asian customers :)The food we ordered was delicious. They take a few extra minutes to assemble and present each dish, table side. For example, at the side of our table, our server grated fresh cheese onto the serving dish and then poured the hot risotto over it before he placed it on our table. The cioppino was exquisite. Full of fresh seafood and bursting with flavor. It was served with thick garlic bread. The risotto was perfectly cooked and oh so creamy. The gnocchi with mushroom sauce was tasty for sure and their Sampler of the Day had extra extra truffle shavings!Glad we had a chance to visit this restaurant. We appreciated the friendly Aloha Spirit from the hostess and enjoyed our meal.

Saw the impressive reviews and thought I had to try it. We got the Caesar salad, pasta sampler, and the veal with lemon sauce. The Caesar salad and and pasta are the only two items saving this review from a one star. The ceasar was amazing and the pasta was just good. The veal was disgusting. It is supposed to be a tender meat but it was extremely tough (almost rubbery) and very hard to chew. The outside of the veal was very slimy and although that might be how it is supposed to be it did not feel right at all. The lemon sauce put the cherry on top of the mountain of disgust as it was very bitter and far too sour. I was with a group of four and two of us tried the veal and agreed it was the worst thing we had ever tasted in our entire lives and it wasn't even close. Would not return.
Be the first to ReplyNYE is also our wedding anniversary and for several years
NYE is also our wedding anniversary and for several years we've talked about staying in town for a night at Valter's. We were so disappointed, food was lackluster, service was fine but nothing special, we made sure to tell our server about our special night but Valter didn't stop by to say hello and nothing was done to acknowledge the occasion, not even a "happy anniversary." Total let down, which we could have overlooked had the l food been special, but nothing was, nothing better than what I could have made at home and the check was over $200. Don't waste the money, totally overpriced.
