Un-Yang-Kor-Dai Singapore Reviews from The Last Year
Reservation is recommended
My colleagues brought me to this eatery along South Bridge Road. Realised it is listed in Michelin Bib Gourmand listed. We had grilled crispy pork ribs, grilled duck, eggplant, pineapple fried rice with prawns, and mango sticky rice. Food is generally tasty. Reservation is recommended.
Authentic Thai, but very busy restaurant
Had a really good lunch experience with the Phad Thai mains and beef ribeye steak along with pineapple fried rice Dinner was slightly different and the restaurant was more crowded Everything was good except the - Grilled pork neck, this was chewy and tough - Leng Zaab, pork rib mountain in soup, this was quite bland
I don't get the hype
Heard so much about Un-Yang-Kor-Dai, what with it being on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list 3 years in a row (2021 - 2023). Maybe this hyped it up too much in my mind, but I felt that what I ate was just.... Okay. Not bad (except 1 dish), but certainly not outstanding IMHO. Let's get the offending dish out of the way: 𝑮𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑵𝒆𝒄𝒌 ($17.00++). I don't know how one can mess up pork neck, but it was actually pretty dry & tough to eat. Didn't expect that, & definitely wouldn't order it again. - The other starter that we ordered were the 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒘𝒏 𝑺𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒔 ($14.90++)... These were alright, with a sizeable juicy prawn inside & a crispy, flaky exterior. Was it a strong start, though? I wouldn't say so... This was just fine. - The mains fared better; but again, I wouldn't consider them mind-blowing. I enjoyed both the 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒊 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒉 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒘𝒏𝒔 ($17.50++) & 𝑭𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒉 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒘𝒏𝒔 ($16.00++) equally. The prawns were indeed fresh, I'll give them that. I particularly enjoyed how fluffy the omelette was without being too oily. - Sweet treats to end our night - because no thai meal is complete without these quintessential Thai desserts: 🔸 𝑹𝒆𝒅 𝑹𝒖𝒃𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒖𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒍𝒌 ($7.00++) 🔸 𝑺𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒚 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒐 ($9.50++) Again, these were okay. TBH I'm puzzled about why Un-Yang-Kor-Dai gets listed as Michelin Bib Gourmand eatery. It wasn't bad (except the pork neck; I was struggling to finish that - & only because I hate wasting food), but certainly wasn't amazing either. This might just be my personal take on it... I don't get the hype. Were there better dishes to order? Can someone tell me? Seems like other people really love this place, though. It was packed on a weekend dinner, even though it was a late (8+PM) one. If you want to check them out, reservations are highly recommended (deposit required).
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty experience! Un-Yang-Kor-Dai is a Thai Select and Michelin Bib gourmand restaurant. Made a reservation the night prior and my table was ready upon arrival. I did notice many that walked-in and were turned away as the restaurant was fully booked... Staff were all wearing masks and wearing disposable gloves. There was a decoration on the wall to talk along with a small sign at the table to speak softly to help the vibe... Menu had plenty of pictures and ordering was done via an "Ordering Chit." Started off with the Thai iced tea for $6 and it was fragrant and had a nice foam on top. Most importantly, it wasn't too sweet and it was super creamy! Ordered the shrimp paste fried rice with their house special grilled chicken and the dish was super delicious! The fried rice was a touch muted on flavors as it was requested to be less spicy. The grilled chicken was marinated extremely well and super juicy. There was half a salted egg in addition to a side of cut tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Moved on to a side of stir-fried morning glory and it was tasty. Nicely stir-fried with garlic although the restaurant opted to keep the vast majority of the stems. ~$45/head after GST for lunch with plenty of leftovers. Restaurant is cashless and takes cards exclusively.
Difficult to enjoy this meal
This was not our first visit and we enjoyed our previous visits due to the authentic food and casual environment. But this time it was super crowded on a Sunday. We were seated in the inner section where the tables were poorly spaced, with poor ventilation and acoustics. Imagine loud conversations of sixty people in a tight space bouncing off concrete walls! Due to the 90 min time limit (we were reminded twice), we felt rushed and couldn’t enjoy our lunch. The tom yum soup came last which was strange indeed. While the food was good, the customer experience can certainly be improved. This is no fault of the service staff who were trying their best, but it otherwise there’s little difference from dining in a sweaty coffeeshop at restaurant prices. We will be going elsewhere for our Thai food fix next time.
Nice Isaan Cuisine
Happened to pass by Un-Yang-Kor-Dai a couple of weeks back and decided to check out the place today. Place serves Isaan cuisine and seems pretty popular. Would recommend the red curry with seabass fillet. Looking forward to my next makan session at Un-Yang-Kor-Dai!
