Loved the ambiance and drinks and food was very flavorful.
We ordered the cochinita pibil and troucha as mains but particularly loved the ceviche as a starter. I love that the chef is actually Mexican and there are cards on the table that provide additional background and history as to how the menu connects with the chef. I'd definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyWay to pricey.
I went for a coworker party of 12. You could literally cook what they cooked at home without needing to pay above $100-200 for a one night outing. You're better off putting that money to better use. The total bill for our entire group was above $2000. Seriously?? They nickle and dime you. This whole restaurant business fad is a scam.

Tzuco never disappoints -- great pick for a night out or weekend brunch. Save room for their super cute (and delicious) seasonal desserts. Service is attentive, and ambiance is upscale but fairly chill.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing dining experience.
Beautiful plates with flavors and tastes that exceeded your expectations. Super unique tasty cocktails. Very attentive staff, always right there. Fun, lively vibe.
Be the first to ReplyFun atmosphere, and most importantly amazing food.
Make sure you're hungry when you go.We had the Cochinita Pibil, Guacamole with Castacán, papas zamoranas, mejillones, and the pomme frites all to share. Everything was a hit.Absolutely save room for dessert, and definitely get the dessert special. The service there is amazing. They knew exactly how much food we needed as a group and gave great recommendations for both food and cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyI had a great experience at Tzuco.
We ordered the octopus, a pork belly special, the trout, broccolini, and hazelnut sponge cake. The octopus was a real highlight and was a true 10/10 dish. Some of the best octopus I've had anywhere. The other major highlights for me were the almond / nut sauce on the broccolini and the sponge cake. The food was well-priced for how nice the restaurant was. The ambiance was excellent, with a fun Mexican desert theme and a beautiful interior. The service was good as well. Overall, I'd highly recommend Tzuco for a high-end date spot or any other occasion.
Be the first to ReplyWent to dinner with my wife for Valentine's Day.
The first dish we had was really good it was the Octopus which was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We also loved the mussels in wine sauce which was also great except the gave you a whole loaf of bread and was messy to cut and not very easy to handle. Then we split the Barbacoa which was ok. For a Mexican insprired restaurant I was a bit disappointed of the lack of heat all of the dishes carried. My favorite was the Rose dessert which was the highlight of the evening. The decor was okay they had dead tree branches all around the restaurant which seem like an afterthought as far as decorations. As far as service it was good but won't be back
Be the first to ReplyA great option for authentic Mexican.
The restaurant is very well designed with cool traditional Mexican artifacts throughout the space. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, allowing us to move our patio reservation indoors. The food was very good- I had the mole old fashioned (interesting), octopus, barbacoa, and the hazelnut cake dessert. Everything was delicious! The portion sizes of the mains seem to be meant for two people so sharing is definitely recommended.Definitely a spot worth a second trip!

For starters we were seated with a kitchen view, while some may not like this we found the seats very entertaining and enjoyed watching the kitchen work, and work they did cranking out wonderful dishes with perfection. We started with guacamole and chips, fresh and tasty and the chips had the perfect touch of salt. Next up octopus not sure what was in the dish but the flavors were paired just perfectly. The main course pork shoulder, this fell off the bone and was smothered in flavor, from the salsa to the black beans it was heavenly. Finished off the night with a sponge cake and ice cream, very nice. Overall a fantastic experience.

I wish I could give this place 6 stars!! Everything is exceptional and the interior design is just as amazing. Chef Carlos was the first Mexican chef to receive a Michelin star and it is SO deserved. I recommend Tzuco to everyone who comes into town and wants an amazing culinary experience. You have to get the mussels and the carne asada. Trust me!
Be the first to ReplySooooooooooooo disappointed - party of 5 /$800.
00 bill.We all had same experience with our food individually some 2 out of 5 tad bit better than others but all agreed food was average at best and 2 out of 5 entrees flavorless. dinner party ranged in age of 34yrs.old to 55yrs..Location - Great Aesthetic- Stunning Presentation of Food Beautiful Charged for food we never received -several appetizers never came ( charred Avocado - Steak tare tare but was charged I notice when we got home - so LOOK at your receipt before paying Slowest ever service Flavorless food Entitled acting staff although Good Sangria Food really was just sooo bad !!!! and service just saddddddddd.... So funny Ive had 4 friends text - email saying they have had same experience since seeing this post.. so Know it wasn't just an off night.. which I didnt think it was... the behavior came across and they felt way to comfortable with it...Back to food- I honestly would been happy with just "warm kinda tasty food" by the time entrées came we had waited so long to to order and for food...Its just such a great looking place, but so many dishes were bland & everyone tasted everyone else's food that's about 8 appetizers ,5 entrées and two desserts ...all five entrées and appetizers were barely warm, ceviche was watery ...I wish I would of kept it at drive-by and wonder what it's like- then actually experience what it's like...total bumme and a big let down. The server knew it was bad so he decided too add on his own tip that I noticed after I paid... so onto of me tipping 20% (because I was a waiter for many years - so I wouldn't never stiff a waiter or leave a bad tip).. He had to know of known how bad it all was or was worried, I wouldn't tip we'll... IDK He covered his ass with he tip though.*Lesson learned to check my bill no matter how ready I am to get out a place, We were all just so ready to get out of there and never go back when there are sooooooo many great options in Chicago to dine and eat out...**** FOLLOW UP**** reply from owner on google reviews =I responded him inquiring and emailed him, never heard back- following suite with experience. His post asking me to contact him via email was just to save face on here. Faking sincerity.****** FOLLOW UP****** after 1st follow up post - owner still never reached out but had an employee Marina González -Tzuco Communications email me.Final Follow up :Received today:"I understand your frustration; we are all customer service employees handling the reviews and posts on the web; the owner is not involved in any steps of this process. If you are still able and willing to share your experience with me, I would be more than happy to read it and pass your feedback to our team."Thanks Maria pass on my review to staff -I covered it there.Nothing left to discuss. :-) I'm not looking for a free meal or disc. Just telling our experience ..Since I made this post -I have gotten 4 texts, 2 calls and 2 e-mails from friends who all went to Tzuco throughout past couple years just one time each and have not returned.ALL said "Good drinks! Food is"Meh" and Service " just drink more , you wont notice !! " hahahahahaha .. glad to know isn't wasn't just us!... LMAOMoving on :-D

We made lunch plans with our one remaining son who still lives in Chicago and his girlfriend last Sunday, at a place I've walked past 100 times - Tzuco! Their façade is pretty, but kind of nondescript but that's where the commonplaceness stops!Everything about Tzuco is special:The food is absolutely amazing!Us four all ordered something different and all four of us were blown away. I had a lobster taco that was so original and so delicious and plated so beautifully, first time in my life I chose to eat a taco with a knife and fork. My wife had the chef's take on a Mexican cheeseburger. My stoic, demanding wife was also blown away. She rarely uses condiments on anything, but with Tzuco burger she had five salsas lined up in front of her like ducks and used all of them. She was very impressed. My son and his girlfriend had guacamole with pico deallo, lime juice, and huitzuco cheese, also, carne asada with corn masa, flank steak, black beans, sautéed spinach, goat cheese fondue, caramelized onion with fried eggs; they both rolled their eyes while savoring the flavors, it was so good. The service was excellent and the ambiance is lovely. The bar is very creative, especially with their mezcal Bloody Mary.Once, in an infrequent while, you hit upon a "sleeper" restaurant that just does everything right. This was certainly the case with Tzuco!

Where to begin??? This place was awarded a Bib Gourmand award from Michelin. Essentially, it's Michelin quality food but at a more affordable price. I'm so glad I was able to sneak in a reservation for a Thursday night on a 3 day weekend trip. VERY MUCH WORTH IT! The service was impeccable. Our server was a delight and half way through our appetizers as a group we decided we were just going to share everything and order more apps. They cleared our plates and brought us clean ones so nobody had to have a dirty plate in front of them while waiting. Lots of nice touches. For the drinks: As a group of 4 we tried about 7 pr 8 different cocktails. All VERY delicious and you can tell the bartender took his time creating beautiful concoctions. Highlights- the pibil has some cumin on its rim that made it awesome and was reordered. The Mexican city sour comes on fire! The Verano was one of the only vodka based cocktails on the list but was FRESH. Food: Steak tartare - it was great but other appetizers over shadowed it. Tuna Ceviche- my absolutely favorite. There were these little crunchies in it that seriously made the dish. Pulpo- I picked this restaurant because octopus is my favorite. It was cooked perfectly. Mushroom Cazuela- this could seriously be an entree. It is a giant bowl of seasoned mushrooms with goat cheese and comes with tortillas to eat taco style. A real crowd favorite. Pescadilla- a stuffed squid ink tortilla with fish. I only tried the end of the pocket and thought it was a little dry, but it was very flavorful and everyone else liked it so I think I just had a bad bite. Chile Relleno- technically an entree but easy enough to split. Everything we would have hoped for. You would not be disappointed if you ordered this. The star of the show was the "tomato fondue" that was rich and creamy and beyond flavorful. Dessert: maiz azafran- so delightful. A saffron ice cream that wasn't too over powering and a toffee topped sweet cornbread. The perfect pairing! All the dishes were plated BEAUTIFUL. I loved being close to the kitchen to see them at the pass and making everything gorgeous. You need to try this place if you are ever in Chicago!
Be the first to ReplyHands down one of the best restaurants in Chicago.
Food, service, and ambiance of the restaurant were all phenomenal. The dinner menu can be kind of overwhelming at first glance, but we just went with what our waiter recommended us.Normally I'd recommend 2-3 standout dishes but literally everything we got was incredible!! The tetela, pulpo, mussels, chile relleno, barbacoa (SO much food), and raspberry (seasonal cake shaped like the food) were all insane. Sangria was decently strong too. Lastly, don't miss out on the iconic bathrooms before you leave!!
Be the first to ReplyThanks to Chef Carlos Gaytan and his talented team, Tzuco
Thanks to Chef Carlos Gaytan and his talented team, Tzuco offers Mexican cuisine infused with French culinary traditions and good service.A staple of Mexican restaurants, the signature Tzuco Margarita is a refreshing, intriguing blend that includes the unexpected -- elderflower and cucumber juice. The heirloom salad is spectacular in appearance and taste, with contrasting colors and flavors thanks to the addition of pickled peaches and basil purée drizzle. The Barbacoa is tender and moist, with mint leaf sprinkled braised lamb topping pinto bean purée, accompanied by warm tortillas, whipped cheese, and an assortment of pickled vegetables. Likewise, the Cochinita Pibil is tender and moist, with Guerrero style pork shank topping black bean purée, accompanied by tortillas and picked red onions. Some disappointments... I'm perplexed by the suggestion to include cubes of bacon in guacamole-- a strange texture was introduced that did not enhance the dish. The Carne Asada Huarache (brunch) clearly had nice seasoning, but was served dry, chewy, and at room temperature-- perhaps it was sitting in kitchen for pick up longer than anticipated as it appeared medium /medium well, rather than the ordered medium rare. Capping the sequence of mixed culinary traditions, Maiz Y Azafran presents a rectangle of sweet corn cake topped with a crisp thin layer of honey toffee paired with an oval dollop of saffron ice cream, surrounded by caramelized popcorn. A drizzle of caramel sauce completes the dessert. Ultimately this results in a unique flavor combination of savory, salty, and sweet, as well as contrasting textures. There are a variety of seating options, with reservations for ample outdoor patio and indoor seating available. I look forward to visiting Tzuco whenever I'm in Chicago.

I think I died and went to heaven after I ate The Tzuco burger. If you like savory, and if you order a burger you likely do, this burger comes with a fondue pour over & truffle. It is easily one of the most savory dishes I've ever had. The fondue comes on the side so you can pour to your pleasing, but it seems rude to not pour all of that golden delicious nectar on the burger so I went all in. Think of this as the best a burger can ever get. Bring a friend and split this with somebody as your eyes will deceive you on how much you can devour. This is a perfect spot for a fun date night or a girls night out, but is not the most intimate/private setup.

The food was solid, but my favorite part about Tzuco is the stunning interior design. I love all the lighting, the cool fossil like objects on the walls, and the cave-like bathroom. That's what makes eating here whole experience to me. The food was also good, but probably not worth the cost when it's really just glorified tacos. I appreciated the fire antics with the drinks and the dessert gastronomy, as well as the effort that went into all the details. Overall, a great meal with an interesting take on Mexican French fusion but a little steep in price.
Be the first to ReplyStunning place, location and wonderful service.
Booked this about 2 weeks in advance and I had to put a credit card down for the reservation. Everything we ate was full of flavor and tasted very authentic. The barbacoa was made to perfection and the GUANÁBANA / AGUACATE dessert which is Tapioca infused with citrus, guanábana sorbet, avocado foam was the right way to end the meal with un cafecito. Easily accessible walking from anywhere downtown. The restaurant sent out great reminders with so many hours until your reservation. If you don't cancel in time they do charge the card. But it's so worth checking out, don't cancel!

Tzuco is a great date night spot! We came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The ambiance and service are wonderful, and our server was incredibly knowledgeable on the menu. He gave us some great drink recommendations (the cocktails here are *chefs kiss*) to start us of. For appetizers we ordered the tuna ceviche and French onion soup with a Mexican twist. Both were delicious and tasted so fresh. For our main course, we shared the braised short ribs. We weren't that impressed with the dish, and kind of wished we had just come here for drinks and apps or ordered the carne asada. For that reason, I'm knocking off a star but I'd still recommend checking it out if you haven't been!

We had dinner here on Sunday night and it was fantastic! The staff is knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The food was creative and delicious! We sat at a high top near the kitchen and every plate that came out looked like a work of art. They pay a lot attention to the presentation of the food. The decor is subtle and beautiful. We had a few drinks all were great, my Azafaran drink was exceptional. The guacamole and mussels were flavorful and absolutely delicious. We also got the pork shank and Chile relleno and both were out of this world. We'll balanced and hardy. Chef even stopped and chatted. Great to meet a rock star like him! Looking forward to going back.
