Amazing local cusine
Taken for lunch by work collauges before flying home to Scotland. The owner was so passionate about the produce and the food was great a brilliantly awsome meal

Once again....Would wish to have the whole menu. Everything is good, never had a bad experience here. Lunch is relaxed, atmosphere is simple and laid back, service is excellent.....booking avoids disappointment at the door! Even if you have visited often....there is a plat du jour which is bound to please...I have to learn Italian...Trattoria di Via Serra is an incentive to do so....not because your host; Flavio, does not speak English, au contraire he is fluent..but because you want to get a deeper appreciation of the wonders of good slow food that Italy has to offer and which Tomasso's kitchen epitomises! Love it....Bologna has much to offer, Trattoria di Via Serra is at the pinnacle as far as I am concerned. Thank you!

Do NOT try to go to this place they HATE tourists. We tried to make a reservation online and via phone. Then we tried to show up and they had 1 table filled and everything else was empty and they refused to seat us. NOT WORTH THE TIME TO TRY AND GET IN because they only want locals. Left a really bad impression of Bologna.

I feel odd writing a review about a restaurant I have not eaten at but here goes. I read many fabulous reviews about Trattoria di Via Serra and a few weeks before our trip to Bologna I e mailed to the address on the website. I got a simple reply, no reservations by e mail. So I called twice and got a recorded message in Italian. I then e mailed the hotel we were staying at and they responded saying you have to queue up on the day. We walked 30 minutes to a not so nice area of the city to an unwelcoming entrance of the restaurant only to be told it was full, and there is no ability to wait in line and full the next day too. The man explained politely they don't take reservations (but clearly had a book with a long list of reservations) and people behind us were seated immediately. My understanding is if you are local you are ok but if you are a tourist or visitor don't bother. fair enough he did us a favour. Our second choice place to eat squeezed us in (despite telling su they were full) and we returned twice during our stay....positive review completed. Please do not waste your time with this place, there are some wonderful places to eat in Bologna, without the hassle and inconvenience of Trattoria di Via Serra.

So this particular Trattoria came recommended from a food blogger that I followed. It was pure luck that the hotel with which we were staying was only a nine minute walk from this place. Iโm so glad it was. We went for lunch and had the recommendations that the blogger recommended and they did not disappoint. This is probably the best food Iโve ever had in my entire life. I hate to use extreme words like that but for me it was the simplicity of the fresh ingredients and the few number of ingredients used that made the dish excel

We were picking a Cruise up in Ravenna and had a night in Bologna. The stars must have been looking down on us because we found a very nice hotel, next door to a great wine bar and a fantastic restaurant, all in Via Luigi Serra, and 5 minutes from the Mono Rail to the Airport. We made some internet enquiries and discovered that Trattoria di Via Serra came out very well, but having read the reviews felt that I would not get booked. I went to the restaurant but it was closed, however the wine bar said it opened at 7pm and I might be lucky if I got there early. We got there for 7 and rang the bell and waited. We were shown in and spoke to the owner who was charming who gave us a table until 8.30pm. We were shown to our table and the female server spent time with us translating the menu. We had the house wine which was excellent. The food was so different from most menus and was fantastic ,it was like eating in some ones home. The bill was also reasonable , the staff and owner were charming and the food fantastic. I look forward to returning some day.
Be the first to ReplyBooking is essential, beautiful food, lovely relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.
Wonderfully warm and friendly service from our waitress. We explained we didnโt eat meat and she was so helpful, making suggestions and even offering off menu items. The food was so good, very tasty and excellent value. The area feels like it is being developed into a must visit street. Ice cream parlour on the corner also excellent.
You absolutely have to book. Worth going there on your first day to ensure you can secure a booking. One of the nicest meals we ate in Bologna. While we were there dozens of people showed up without reservations and had to be turned away.
Love
Loved this place! They explain everything to you in great detail and the food is fabulous. Make sure to book in advance since they have limited seating.
We ate the vegetarian stuff and it was fabulous
Get a reservation and eat here!!
Holy cow. Good luck on the reservation front. You need one but you canโt make one online and trying to get a reservation via phone seems to be nearly impossible. We walked 30 min to the restaurant on a Tuesday evening and were advised they were full. Bummer. It was full the next night, too. However, lucky us, there was a table available Thursday at noon, the day we were headed from Bologna to Modena. We had to pick up our rental car from the airport first. So we made the trek to the airport to rent our car and then drove back to Bologna to eat. It was worth all the scheduling hassle on our end to make it work. No exaggerating. The owners were beyond amazing and friendly. He explained the entire menu to us in English. The server was so nice, too. Now, the food. It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Unfortunately for us, we had a special dinner booked that night we couldnโt reschedule so we had to be semi responsible eating here. And we were super bummed because we wanted to order one of everything based on how good the dishes we had were. Not exaggerating. If youโre in Bologna for a few days, walk down to the restaurant and make a reservation for whatever day/time is available and have zero regrets.
