Trattoria Da Enzo al 29 Roma Reviews from The Last Year
I'd give it 4.
5 stars if I could. They don't take reservations and they've been getting major social media traction as a "go-to" place to get "authentic" Roman pastas. This social media attention has turned them into a major tourist trap with a 1 hour line to get a table, which we knew about so that's not factored into this review at all; but be prepared to wait. And is it worth the wait? Definitely not. The food is good, just not incredible. Amatriciana: touted by one YouTuber as the best in Rome. It was delicious, but we had better Amatriciana on our first night in town at another restaurant. Definitely good but not great. Carbonara: just ok. The sauce was good but our portion had only 3 chunks of guanciale. I know this because we were a group of three people and dividing this dish we each got exactly one small piece. Oxtail: the braised oxtail was the star of the show. The braising liquid was delicious and flavorful and the meat was dark, tender, and well seasoned. Fried artichoke: delicious! But this is pretty much delicious everywhere. Burrata appetizer: expensive but worth it. I pretty much order this any time it's on a menu and have never regretted it. TLDR: don't feel bad if you skip this on your visit. You didn't miss anything incredible and saved yourself the waiting in line.
People called this place a tourist trap since you need to
People called this place a tourist trap since you need to line up for quite a bit of time if you want a table. You'll also notice that everyone in line is a tourist. With that in mind I'd say the wait was worth it. The staff was more attentive than normal (probably cause tourists!) and they talk really fast! The specials change often so they may be worth trying. Food I'd say is an 8/10! Interesting flavors, quick service, and a great time.
Some of the best food we had in Rome! Wait was worth it!
Some of the best food we had in Rome! Wait was worth it! The carbonara was excellent! Must do!
If you're looking for the best pasta in Rome, look no
If you're looking for the best pasta in Rome, look no further than Da Enzo al 29. This quaint trattoria is located in the Trastevere neighborhood, and this place can get busy. The service is very quick and attentive, but you come here for the food. Everything here is delicious. Starting with the fried artichoke is an absolutely must if you want to kick off your meal on a high note. Take your pick of the pastas, but the rigatoni Amatriciana is out of this world. The pasta is perfectly al dente. The sauce is spicy, yet creamy but somehow light. The guanciale is exceptional and truly creates the perfect bite with the pasta. Fantastic restaurant, and my favorite in Rome.
It is a beautiful place with a great ambiance and beautiful
It is a beautiful place with a great ambiance and beautiful presentation, and the staff makes it feel very high-end. I wanted to have a really nice last dinner in Rome and saw the reviews. I found this restaurant terribly overrated. I ordered Oysters for an appetizer - they arrived with no sauce and were not fresh. I followed it with the clams, shrimp, and seafood pasta in a tomato sauce. It was inedible salty - couldn't finish eating it (I love salty things and add salt to EVERYTHING). This pasta dish was just not good, there was only one shrimp in the dish, and the majority of the fish was chopped cod. I am not a picky eater, but it was absolutely terrible, and I was sick to my stomach on the walk home. There are WAY better options in Rome, don't make the same mistake I made.
During my trip to Rome, my friends and I decided we had to
During my trip to Rome, my friends and I decided we had to try Da Enzo al 29 as it was recommended through many sites. Also warned by the extensive wait time we arrived around 6:45, 15 minutes before opening on a Thursday night. We got sat around 8:15 so it was about an hour & 30 minute wait. During the wait they offered orders of an aperol spritz + other drinks. I thought this was considerate for people who might've been thirsty waiting in line. There were a few dishes on the menu that were no longer available, not sure if they had ran out or they just didn't have it for the day but although a bit bummed, there were still many great options to choose from. Our table ended up getting the burrata salad and bread as an appetizer while we waited and it was so fresh and delicious! It's hard to mess up a burrata salad so we enjoyed that while waiting. For entrees, we got the Cacio E Pepe, the Carbonara, meatballs, Abbacchio alla Scottadito (lambchops), and for me personally, the Amatriciana. The food was amazing!!!! The pasta was so delicious and creamy and the meat (cured pork cheek) they add into it provides a delicious crunch! We wouldn't reccomend the lamb chops as they are subpar which makes sense as they are mainly known for their pasta. Most of the tables are outside so I would check the weather beforehand and bring a jacket if that's what the day permits. Overall, the food was great and the area was so cute. I probably wouldn't wait as long as we did for it again. I think the wait was definitely worth it for the first time around since it's a popular spot for tourists, a great price, and great food. However, Rome has so many other amazing options as well that are worth trying rather than waiting again.
The long wait was worth it.
The food was amazing, every last bite. If I make my way to Rome again, I will definitely make a stop here again. The meatballs were to die for and also the carbonara.
We had heard amazing things about this place and even had
We had heard amazing things about this place and even had it recommended by multiple people that we know. When we showed up, we were prepared to wait in line. We waited in line for about an hour to get a table. When we finally did, it was super cramped and we were eating at a table with people we didn't know. The experience was really rushed, understandably because they wanted to get people in and out of the restaurant due to the huge line outside. The food was mediocre, but we were underwhelmed. It was not bad, but we expected more after waiting in line for so long and all of the positive things we had heard!
We had a delightful lunch at Da Enzo al 29 in Rome, Italy.
We were seated outside next to a lovely lady and her granddaughter from Brazil. We feasted on fried artichokes and zucchini flowers and they served the most wonderful breads. I had the Cacio e Pepe and my wife had the Rigatoni Carbonara with guanciale. Beautiful staff and excellent food! Get there early and be prepared to wait in line as it is the best-known (kept) secret!
This was among the best pasta we had in Rome .
.. and we had a lot of it. If you are from Long Island or NYC and complain that the food isn't as good in Italy, sorry to tell you ... Italian food in the US is exactly that ... American Italian food. This is real Roman food, although slightly American-ized. We got there right as they opened for lunch and there were already 20 people in line. The bad thing about arriving that early is then you have to wait until everyone starts and finishes their meal ... which can take a long time, especially as you watch people eat. I would not recommend getting there close to, or even slightly before, opening. The line will always be long. We waited 45 minutes, or so, having arrived right when they opened. Honestly, was it worth an hour's wait? Probably not ... there are spots which serve pasta as good who take reservations in advance. That would be my plan going forward. If you don't have reservations made ... this place is probably worth waiting for vs. going somewhere more touristy. The front looks like what you'd imagine a picturesque hole in the wall restaurant in Trastevere to look like. It is (sadly) very instagrammable or Tik Tok fodder, which is why the lines are so long to begin with. The Tik Tok crowd know to seek this out thanks to all the influencers who brag about it. We had: Pasta Amatriciana ... This is one of the top 3 pastas of Rome. I always go to Roma Sparita for Cacio e Pepe and Hostaria Romana for Carbonara ... so we skipped those here. It is a cheesy/tomato-based pasta and it was fucking fantastic! The perfect ratio of cheese, sauce and pasta ... the pasta was cooked perfectly Al Dente ... and it was just done correctly, which many of the tourist spots don't do. Highly recommend this dish. Meatballs ... I begged my travel companion not to get these. Meatballs are not true Italian food ... they are pretty much a product of New York, after WW2 when Italian immigrants started to move up into the lower/upper middle class and could afford the luxury of meat with their pasta. I was surprised to see them on the menu ... more surprised that they were made with sweet spices. They were the only regrettable dish we had. Not good tasting ... and not really prepared well. They cost this place a star. Artichoke Romana ... Good but not great. It was a steamed artichoke served in a flavorless green gravy-like sauce. There was really no taste to this dish. I would not order it again. Tira Misu ... I am not a huge dessert fan but my travel companion liked it so much, she finished before I could even try a bite. She said it was the best of the 5 (yes ... you heard that right) tira misu dishes she ate on our trip to Italy. It came in a cup and looked more like a Scottish Trifle than a tira misu. But, she loved it. I really regret not getting the Carbonara here. It looked beyond amazing! My go-to restaurant in Rome for Carbonara, Hostaria Romana, let me down this time and it was not as good as normal. The table next to us ordered the carbonara and I swooned over it. The Cacio e Pepe also looked amazing. Bottom line ... go here for the pasta. The other stuff looked/tasted okay ... but was not really anything to write home about, much less stand in a long line for. This place is overhyped, for sure. There really is no restaurant worth standing in an hour-long line for. That's all Tik Tok false demand fodder. (many of the passers by took photos of the line) But, go here if you want pasta done right and you are worried about getting screwed by a tourist trap with frozen pasta sauce and soggy noodles ... because every restaurant in Trastevere looks amazing on the outside, but not all are great on the inside. The people in line were generally annoying to be quite honest ... a combination of Gen Z wanna-be influencers talking in a heavy vocal fry and midwestern 20 - 30 year olds sent here by their hotel. There were a couple locals mixed in. Overall, we aren't bummed that we waited ... it really was the best pasta we had in Rome. We just wished we skipped ordering everything else, except for dessert.
Long fun line for tasty food
I stumbled upon this place not knowing anything other than that there was a growing queue down the block and a waiter ingeniously serving drinks to the long line. It was a fun wait and the food was great. I had the zucchini flowers, artichoke, stracciatella with tomatoes, and short rib. I would dine again and be sure to get pasta.
Worth the wait.
Highly recommend. Worth the wait. Favorite meal of the entire trip. Arrive early and grab some cocktails as you wait in line.
Just to say I ate in Trastevere
Typical place for "I ate in Trastevere" tourists In my opinion it's not worth it, chaotic place, expensive food and not excellent quality. First time and I think also the last, the food is better in the surrounding area
The wait is worth it
Don't be put off by the queue, it gets smaller quickly and you'll be rewarded with very good food. Everything is very well organized and quick. You can enjoy your meal in peace, you won't be able to sit there for an hour after eating. But it still doesn't feel like mass processing.
Long wait for a very average dinner
Food was ok but not worth the hour wait. Minimal food and drink selection. I think this place gets busy as food tours stop here and recommend it. Don’t understand the hype
This place is a must for places to eat in Rome.
The food is incredible! They do not accept reservations but the line waiting is half the experience. You enjoy some wine or aperol spritz's while you wait. It's on a super cute street in Trastevere. So worth it! We cancelled dessert and ordered another carbonara it was that good.
Good, but expensive.
A place with a War Machine concept: tables attached to each other, quick, almost anxiety-inducing service and express dishes. Starter arrived in a minute and even before finishing the Cacio e pepe and amatriciana arrived. Everything is normal, although in Trastevere it is now difficult to be disappointed. The food isn't bad, of course, but paying 15 euros and 50 for a cacio e pepe seems excessive to me.
Negative
They put reviews on each other's heads! They influence you positively and everything is negative except the welcome. Cacio e pepe, shabby, I had the feeling that there was bechamel, carbonara with pieces of bacon that were too large. An endless queue for what's the name? Stop first there is an excellent trattoria with fewer people there are no huge queues and taste an excellent amatriciana and an excellent cacio e pepe in the cheese slice
Waste of time.
No seafood - and which ones are on page 1 of the menu. Moreover, the staff is helpful and committed. Long waiting time for the meal.
Notoriously Hard to Get In-Worth the Wait
This place is packed every hour of the day. They close lunch at 3 pm yet were still welcoming people at 2:55. Anyone familiar with some of the tiny places in Boston’s famous Italian North End will be comfortable in this tiny restaurant. 28 seats tops packed wall to wall. You are literally on top of your neighbors. Waiters dropped rolls down my back as they tried to reach the kitchen. But…I have been to some amazing restaurants in this city, most are favorites of locals. This has a wide draw in Trastavere, the restaurant center of Rome, even locals can’t always get in. It’s that good. The carbonara was a cut above the best. The meatballs, a rare find in Rome were excellent. Cacio e Pepe is perhaps the best I’ve encountered in the city. Old school, rough around the edges but the besting heart of what makes an excellent restaurant-no frills just beyond belief food. One of only a few deserving more than five stars in the city. Siamo famiglia!
Let's first say.
.. I'm from the New York City area and we have some great food in Manhattan. We waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes on a long line. We met some nice people and drank wine while waiting. The people we met were very nice. We ordered the burrata, meatballs and Amatriciana. The appetizer, the burrata, was nice however neither main course was amazing. I had better Italian food on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Honestly, I gave the restaurant an extra star for the experience and the two nice people we met on line. Two stars are for the food. Not worth the 1 hour and a quarter wait.
Not worth the wait! Waited an hour and a half to be seated
Not worth the wait! Waited an hour and a half to be seated at an outdoor table. The menu had very little to choose from. The Amatriciana had too much Parmesan and the taste was very potent. The carbonara was heavy on the pepper. The lamb chops had little meat on them and most of it was just fat. Grilled vegetables are chopped pieces in oil.
Absolutely perfect experience.
Highly recommend! From the food to the anticipation of walking up to the street, waiting in line, to the truly kind and generous staff. Don't skip this gem on your next trip to Rome.
Da Enzo al 29 was one of my favorite sports in Trastevere.
The service, ambiance and food was all amazing and really made eating here a fun experience. My group of six arrived to the restaurant late on Saturday night and they told us that it was going to be a bit of a wait. They treated us with drinks as we waited in line and they ended up seating us in a great spot much quicker than anticipated. I ordered the Pasta alla Gricia and it was a bit al dente but that is common in Italy; very good, just not what I would make for myself. The flavor was incredible and is what kept me coming back two more times during my time in Rome.
We arrived 15 minutes early for lunch on a weekday.
There were 2 parties ahead of us. We decided to do lunch since dinner sounded like longer lines. There was a long line that followed us. It was one of our favorite meals. Both pastas were amazing & delicious! Aeperol spritz wasn't for us but wanted to give it a try. They offer indoor & outdoor seating. The tiramisu is small & comes in a cup, isn't life changing but still tastes good.
Excellent food and very crowded.
Pastas are always well prepared. You need a reservation.
This restaurant may not be everyone's cup of tea - there's
This restaurant may not be everyone's cup of tea - there's a line, it gets quite crowded, it feels a little chaotic - but we loved it. We went early in the week, so the line was only about 20-30 mins for 2 people, and we got seated inside after having a cocktail in line (bring cash). The pastas were as delicious as everyone says, and we ended up talking with the different people around us which ended up being so much fun. With that said, I'm not sure if wait over an hour - the food was incredible, but I recommend trying to go on an off-night or off-hours. Otherwise, the line may overshadow the experience.
Was in Italy a few months ago for a family trip.
A local recommended this place and honestly, I'm so happy they did. The food.... OMG to die for. Extremely delicious, and being lactose intolerant it didn't bother my stomach, so thank goodness for that. We had to wait about 10 minutes because they were packed but they served drinks, that was nice. I highly recommend Da Enzo if in Italy!!!!
Got here 15 min before it opened (thinking we were being
Got here 15 min before it opened (thinking we were being smart) and there was a long line waiting already. We ended up waiting a little over an hour but it was so worth it. Also it helps that there is someone who will come and order drinks for you to pass the time. We got the carbonara, amatriciana , and chicory. Both pastas tasted so fresh, flavorful but light. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The chicory was okay, it reminded me of a standard Chinese veggie dish, which I thought was interesting. We ended with the Tiramisu which was the perfect cherry on top. I would say it's a pretty small shop with some outdoor seating which explains why the line is always so long! They are quick with their service once you are seated. Def a must try!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
