Tiki Bar & Restaurant at Grand Hotel Excelsior Il-Belt Valletta Reviews from The Last Year
The Excelsior Excelled
The Grand Hotel Excelsior lived up to it's name, I have never been anywhere so very posh. It had a very fancy foyer, red carpet and all. While it was an expensive place to stay, you can understand the cost. It's a very large building with some very fancy amenities that need to be maintained. I'll begin with the pool, both a large outdoor pool, and a heated medium indoor pool. If you go in the outdoor pool first which is quite cold, then get in the indoor heated one, it feels so much warmer and was absolutely blissful. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was fantastic, chocolate cake for breakfast? Yes please! Though you could order a more traditional breakfast from the friendly and helpful staff if you so desired. I ate like a King every morning. They had classic cereals like Cornflakes, childhood favourites like Coco Pops, many, many, delicious carbohydrate breakfast items, croissants, pain-au-chocolat, chocolate cake, muffins, there was fruit, there were all manner of different meats, yoghurts, and fruit juices. We tended to have a late lunch in Malta, if any at all because of how filled we were by such an excellent breakfast. The housekeeping/room service happened every day, they replenished the water (tap water isn't drinkable in Malta unfortunately), they made the beds, gave us new towels where required, and did an all-round excellent job. The people at the help desk were also, as the title suggest, very helpful. There is a 150 Euro deposit per room so bear that in mind when planning your budget.

Grand Excelsior: A Classical Haven of Royal Elegance and Stellar Service
A Symphony of Breakfast Delights: Indulge in a breakfast fit for champions! From the crisp allure of fresh fruits to the warmth of sumptuous omelettes, the spread is a tapestry of flavors. Delight in the symphony of meats, cheeses, olives, and cakes, and so much more. A standout recommendation? The white cheese adorned with red peppercorns—a taste journey like no other. Pairing this with slices of watermelon was delightful too. A Haven of Hospitality: The staff, with their radiant smiles and attentive care, ensure your every need is met with grace and warmth. Their morning ritual of serving personalized coffee and tea at breakfast is a heartfelt touch that resonated deeply. A Perfect Locale: Nestled just a leisurely 10-minute stroll from the bus station and the heart of the city's vibrant shops, the location is both convenient and enchanting, allowing you to see across the bay and gaze at the old versus new architecture in Valletta. A Maestro of Hospitality: Justin, the manager, stands as a beacon of hospitality. Welcoming my mother and I with open arms, he understood the significance of our visit—a special celebration for my pianist mother's milestone birthday. Despite initial hesitations from others, Justin graciously allowed her to play the grand piano in the lounge. His passion for his role shone brightly, as he suggested an evening performance to minimize any judgment. Beyond this generous gesture, he regaled us with tales of Malta, telling us of the history of the Hotel itself, was very charming and became a cherished part of our memories and hotel visit. Elegance in Every Detail: The rooms exude cleanliness and thoughtfulness, with complimentary tea, coffee, and tiny chocolates awaiting by your bedside—a daily embrace of love! A Bathing Sanctuary: The bathroom is a haven of tranquility, spacious enough to lose oneself in pure relaxation and to meet all your needs. The large heavenly bath invites you to unwind after adventurous days of sightseeing. A touch of brilliance? A retractable washing line, deftly drying your swimsuits overnight. The hotel's heated indoor pool on the ground floor, adorned with a soothing Jacuzzi, offers a sanctuary to rejuvenate tired muscles. This was an ideal haven for my mother and me, seeking a tranquil escape. Overall: In every corner, it's evident the hotel has curated an experience where every detail sings harmoniously to your comfort and joy. An Ascent of 88 Steps: While the hotel stands as a beacon of charm, it is graced with a staircase of 88 steps leading to its embrace. For some, this may pose a great challenge. While my mother and I, with our youthful vigor, found it manageable, it may require consideration for those seeking a gentler approach. A thought towards crafting a lift could further extend the hotel's warm embrace to all, ensuring accessibility for every cherished guest.
Excellent hotel and staff.
My daughter and I have just returned from a 3 night stay here. We paid extra and had a deluxe full sea view twin room and this was definitely worth it. Beautiful hotel . Excellent breakfast and so much choice of high quality food ad drinks. Staff were polite and genuinely friendly and always helpful. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.
Our favourite hotel

Its a wonderful hotel .5star but a bit dated. stunning view from breakfast buffet . has pools . service and friendliness of staff is def 5 star . strange arrangement of hotel enter from the from is on level 6 . so rooms from the start at level 6 . higher room better view .breakfast is on level 4
April visit
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience in Valletta and recommend the excelsior as a great place to stay. I’d say investment is needed if they want to keep 5 star status but I’d not hesitate to stay again given price point and location Pros Location, Not many other hotels in Valletta with pools ( both indoor and outdoor ) plus a small beach and sea access Staff throughout are excellent and a credit to the hotel. Rooms with a terrace are amazing for views across the harbour plus all day sunshine Room service including water bottles twice daily…plus chocolates for turn down Boats trips can be booked via concierge to pick up at the hotel harbour Rooms cleaned well and a second turn down service provided each day Cons The steps….88 plus slope before you get to the triton fountain, but do able or if not only around 4€ to get bolt ( download it, it’s more popular than Uber in Malta ) or the hotel service if you want to go out at 10am or 6pm ( book in advance ) The review of the steps nearly put me off booking here but so glad I’d not let me decide elsewhere once I’d realised how quick/cheap/easy bolt was A 5 star hotel should have better juices at breakfast, it shouldn’t be watered down reconstituted undrinkable rubbish. Worst I’ve ever experienced Rooms are outdated, but at least clean Lifts…seemed to have a mind of their own, took forever to go anywhere from floor 9…. Often missed our floor completely I don’t want to make this sound too negative as we really enjoyed our visit but this hotel could be so much better if some investment was made
Was probably very impressive many years ago
This hotel looks impressive & I should imagine many years ago it was, but there are a lot of areas closed - including the outside bar area pictured on the website. There are 78 steps to go up and down every time you walk into the city, as well as a hill, where the footpath vanishes at some point; but as long as you are fit it is a convenient location. The rooms are large & I liked having a bath & separate shower in the bathroom, and the slippers and bathrobes, although one robe was dirty when I took it out of the wardrobe, so I put it into the washing basket & it was never replaced. The choice at breakfast was really good and the staff there very helpful. The reason for the average rating was for the staff everywhere else though. I received a 7.30am wake up call when I did not request one, when I told them that, the response was 'well it's on the system' so I said if I asked for a 7.30 am wake up call to room 810 (not my room) it would go on the system; respond YES?! so be warned that this could happen, as they don't appear to check the right room numbers of people requesting calls. There is also no communication between the room staff; I was awoken again very early on my first morning with someone wanting to service the room, I asked for later service & this happened for a few days, but then back to an early morning knock again; different staff, no communication & the hotel doesn't have do not disturb signs- remember this. The bed has a quite heavy cover over during the day & at night they remove this an turn down the bed leaving a chocolate; very nice touch and worked well for several evenings, but on one the person came to do this at 5pm; I was just showering, so asked them to come back, I got a very abrupt response that they had to do this by 7.45, which given it was 5 I didn't see would be a problem; but that night there was no chocolate. I mentioned the robe not being retuned, to reception, as I didn't want to be accused of taking it and I also mentioned the odd response from staff about the morning wake up call and request to come back to the room later; they said they would pass my concerns to customer services who would contact me the next day. This didn't happen, but that night when I returned the room hadn't been serviced at all. I went to reception to ask if someone could remove the cover from the bed & to ask why I hadn't heard from customer service; the receptionist said he was new and hadn't actually passed my concerns to anyone, as he'd checked and there was a request for a morning wake up call in the system! Another receptionist said they would pass my concerns on and ensure someone contacted me after 10am and get someone to service the room now. A very angry man came to my room about half an hour later yelling at me that I had do not disturb on my room (remember they don't have these signs!), so that was why the room had not been serviced, he left abruptly then reappeared with a plastic bag, emptied the bin and pulled the cover off the bed before leaving again. Guest services didn't contact me the next day, so when passing reception I went to speak to them; I spoke to a lady called Jeanette who was very understanding and said she would look into things; I arrived back to my room that day to find chocolates and bottle of wine, which was an appreciated gesture and I thank Jeanette for her understanding.
Perfect!!
The Grand Hotel Excelsior was recommended to us by friends who stayed in February. We loved EVERYTHING about this hotel. Our spacious Panoramic Sea view room with views of the Harbour and swimming pool was comfortable and elegantly furnished. The quality and choice of foods in the breakfast and dinner Buffets was outstanding. The staff without exception were friendly, charming and helpful at all times. The lounging areas around the pool and in the Bars and Lounges were spacious, elegant and comfortable. The location right on the Harbour with a brief walk to Valetta could not be better. Could not fault anything! Perfect! We will DEFINATELY be back!
Great Hotel with all the trimmings..
Friendly staff, excellent service, great facilities, best location on waterfront within easy walking distance of Valetta. A little old fashioned by todays standards but has ample charm and character. Morning and evening buffets are impressive with wide variety on offer both local and international. Check out the pictures of presidents and VIPs on the the staircase that have stayed here. Would throughly recommend.
Lovely hotel, but too many steps.
Lovely hotel and staff, Great breakfast, as other people have said needs a bit of updating especially the furniture. The thing difficult for me was the 88 steps out of the hotel, I have recently had a hip replacement, but would be difficult for a lot of people. There is a shuttle, but only at 10am and 6pm and needs to be booked, for this reason I wouldn't go again. Interesting country, would advise a 7 days bus pass, we used it all over the island, there is so much to see.
A lovely afternoon tea
We booked for the classic afternoon tea and it was really lovely. The table was reserved right next to the window which gave us a wonderful view of the harbour. Staff was really nice and the food was amazing. We had free flowing tea and coffee, and a generous selection of sandwiches, scones and sweets. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely hotel with great rooms let down by access to outside spaces.
Was aware that it was a bit of an uphill trip to Valletta but it was much steeper than anticipated. There is a courtesy car which will take you up at 10am & 6pm but you must book in advance. we forgot to book one day and were told we couldn't make use of the car. It then drove past us when we were halfway up the hill, with no passengers on board. (Bit disappointing) The outdoor pool was closed for maintenance which meant there were no sunbeds available to sit outside. The only place you could sit outside was the smoking area at the front of the hotel. Inside the hotel was lovely. Rooms were spacious and bed was huge. Slept well every night. Young guy cleaning our room did a great job every day. The main bar was a nice relaxing area. Full of young bar staff, not sure if this meant they were inexperienced but pretty much every night they forgot at least 1 of our 4 drinks or brought the wrong 1. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. Restaurant manager made sure we got a good table every morning and was always on top of his job. Overall liked the hotel but don't think we would stay there again. Main reason being the long haul up to the town. For younger travellers it would be fine and a day long courtesy car (or reasonably priced option) would sway it for me.
A really relaxing place to stay
This is a lovely hotel only a 10 minute stroll from the main tourist area. The reception area is very impressive, as are the other common areas. Our bedroom was large with a nice bath but it seemed a little dated. There was no minibar which didn’t bother us but seemed odd and the usual tea/coffee tray could have been a bit more generous. The buffet breakfast was as good as any we’ve had anywhere and there is an egg chef - always a big plus. Generally, however, we were a bit disappointed with the menus offered: boring and unimaginative are words that come to mind and not really commensurate with a hotel of this quality. We did not explore the nightly buffet which has a different theme every night. One minus point: the coffee was the very worst I’ve ever had! The indoor and outdoor pools are both lovely but the latter was not open during our visit. The staff were all helpful, efficient, friendly and well trained. We will definitely recommend the Grand Excelsior to friends thinking about a trip to Malta.
We will be back!!
We got a fantastic deal with love holidays for flights and bed and breakfast for 6 nights. Great breakfast options- full English, even had staff making pancakes/ poached eggs/ omelette at a station. I am gluten and dairy free and they had gluten free bread, biscuits and cereal and dairy free milk- staff were very accommodating, and willing to help, you just have to ask for it from staff. We checked out quite early for flight also on last day so we missed breakfast, but they had breakfast boxes waiting for us at reception which included a sandwich, crisps, drinks and fruit, very thoughtful. We used the gym and pool- very clean and lovely. The hotel is situated in the perfect location- 5 min walk from valetta and main buses. Loved our stay and would recommend to anyone!
Excellence at The Excelsior!
Stayed here for 11 nights in March. From the day we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful, friendly & professional & we found that to be the case in every part of the hotel. The hotel is beautiful, not the most modern, but classic elegance and a fantastic base for travelling the whole Island, as the bus/taxi areas are a 5 minute walk round the corner. Rooms are kept beautifully clean by the room service team who visit twice a day. We paid a little extra for a sea view room, and it’s worth every penny, the view over the harbour is beautiful. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and lots of it!! Food was still being replenished right up until the end of the service time. The bar in the evening was relaxed and chilled. Various entertainment in the way of music is put on some evenings. Bar staff again were great. Indoor pool is lovely, and the gym well equipped. We have loved our stay here & are planning to return next year.
Old School Hospitality Charm...
Old school hospitality at its best, this was our hotel for a week long stay in Malta. Right from check in to check out it was a fabulous experience. As an ex hospitality person I was very pleased to see that this hotel has kept some of the old world charm. Eg. Offer of turn down service by Housekeeping, Doorman, Concierge, smiling staff all round. To mention some names, Jordan at door, Marita at Breakfast and most importantly Heathcliffe who I think is head of concierge/ customer service team. All the amenities such as pool, gym, restaurants etc were brilliant, cannot recommend enough.
4 nights at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Valletta, Malta - March 2024
March 8-12, 2024, stayed at this exceptional hotel. From arrival in Malta to the hotel transfer, we received superb service. The staff were all attentive and very professional and friendly. We were also met by Abir Catania (Guest Relations Executive), and Heathcliff, staff member at Concierge, including Aarti at Reception. The booking process was almost faultless and smooth. We received exceptional service throughout our stay and highly recommend this 5-star hotel where we would stay again. Robert Arrigo & Sons Ltd, the transfer company was smooth and communicative via WhatsApp. Maltese people are easy to get on with and speak English, and are very friendly. So glad we stayed in Valletta as everything was within reach as tourists. There is so much to see so we packed our short visit and recommend tours for Mdina & Rabat, 3 cities, St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The Valletta to Sliema ferry was cancelled as it was windy so instead we took Bolt cab there. This service is good value and truly fantastic to use via its app, from where you can book the cab, the cost and the service was instant (literally). We also recommend using Maya eSim, my first time use in Malta (bought the Europe 5 day plan) and it was a breeze to switch from UK physical SIM to Maya eSIM from landing in Malta. The last day the weather was good and sunny so made the most of it by visiting the Battery salute and both the Lower and Upper Barrakka gardens. There is a lovely cafe at the top called Elephant Shoe for a comfort break and refreshments before the gun salute (we visited at 4pm, there is one at 12 noon). Loved the Gelato ice cream at some places in Valletta. Had a lovely lunch meal at the historic Museum Cafe, where I tried the Chicken curry and rice, which was absolutely delicious. The service in all places was second to none. Highly recommend another Indian curry place called Taj Mahal Indian kitchen near Triton Fountain and buses station by the City Gate in Valletta. Thank you Malta, we loved our first-time visit and really enjoyed it.

Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate

Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

I’m sorry to hear about this - I’m a brand new seller on the platform and didn’t realize this was a *thing* - any chance you can point me to the fine print/documentation where this policy is stated (also identifying other caveats like this would be appreciated)?
