Tidepools Koloa Reviews from The Last Year
If you got the money do it else why.
The biggest thing of coming here is seeing the koi fish swim around while you eat. It's very over priced. Service is great but the food is not worth the price you pay.
Truly an amazing experience! The atmosphere feels out of
Truly an amazing experience! The atmosphere feels out of this world, and the service was so warm and friendly without being overbearing. Our waiter Juan was awesome and really made the whole experience. I eat out a lot, but it's rare I eat at a place where the entrees are over $60 each. I was a little skeptical that we were just paying for the view and atmosphere, but the food was truly delicious. I had the ahi tuna which was cooked perfectly, and all of the flavors came together with the sides. Nothing felt cookie cutter about the dish -- it was unique but solid. My fiancé got the macadamia fish which was fresh and tasty. We started with the mini lamb chops which were cooked to perfection. If you are able, Tidepools is a must.

What an amazing, wonderful, delightful, fun anniversary my husband and I had last night. We went to Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt in Shipwreck Beach. So beautiful. The food was delicious and the staff was so friendly and attentive. They comped our dessert and gave us a 15% local discount. Wonderful surprise! And after the wonderful dinner, we had a lovely walk on Shipwreck Beach. Listened to the ocean and slack key guitar. And shared the place with a sleeping monk seal. He's the dark blob in the pic just past my husband.
Disappointed
We have eaten at this restaurant at least 5 times on our visits to Kauai over the past 10 years when visiting from the UK. This was the first visit I was a bit disappointed. The food was good, although the steak was not cooked medium, it was medium rare. The wine glass was a bit grubby looking - for the price of this restaurant I’d be expecting them to sparkle. The bread rolls are lovely but no longer come with that amazing butter they used to serve and we had to ask for regular butter. This meal cost us upwards of $350 and honestly I just don’t feel it was worth it.
Exquisite cuisine, amazing service, breath taking atmosphere
Stunning views, exquisite cuisine and incredible service! Our family (2 Adults, 2 Teens) enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Tidepools during our recent Kauai vacation. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere - our table felt like it was floating, surrounded by a koi pond, lush gardens and the ocean. Menu had many options for a variety of diets and palates. Our food was cooked to perfection - simply delicious and a highlight meal during our stay. Our server, Juan, was super knowledgeable, attentive and personable - if your travels take you to Tidepools, be sure to ask for Juan! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Absolutely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh my god! I cant even begin to say enough good this bout
Oh my god! I cant even begin to say enough good this bout this place. From the groove to the food this place met my expectations which are very hard to match. The service was just okay nothing too special but you cant always get what you want apparently. Would I recommend? Yes! (to a certain degree)

The two most amazing things about this place from the get-go is the service and the atmosphere. The workers are friendly and knowledgeable. Very attentive and they make sure you're taken care of. This also has got to be one of the most beautifully serene and scenic restaurants. The view is right off the beach and the ponds around the area definitely give it an amazing vibe. Now onto the food. First you're treated to stunning ube bread rolls that are warm and delicious. The appetizers and entrees were good, but not amazing. We ordered the dynamite crab cakes and Hawaiian catch. The crab cakes were good as they were fried well and had a good sauce to complement it. The garnishes changed up the texture of the dish and provided a nice contrast. The Hawaiian Catch consisted of Shutome (Hawaiian swordfish), Scallop, shrimp, and Lobster tail. The scallop and lobster tail were fresh and delicious. The shrimp wasn't too bad either, but there wasn't anything too special about it. The swordfish was only ok for me. Maybe it's because I'm not super crazy about swordfish. For dessert, we had the Macademia but Crème brûlée. That was definitely a delicious dessert as it was sweet, but not overly sweet. Overall, definitely not a bad spot to dine at in Kaui. Amazing sights and good food, you can't go wrong here!
This is a special restaurant.
During our recent visit, we had some of the most amazing food here. The views of the Koi ponds while eating make it very unique. We had reservations for 7:30, but arrived a couple hours early so we could walk around the beautiful property and enjoy the beach views. They were able to seat us about an hour early and that was nice. Myself, wife and daughter started with some drinks and appetizers. Tai Chi's for us grown ups and a virgin Lava Flow for our daughter. Then the Kalbi ribs and Garlic pomme frites. All great. The frites are a big plate of thick cut fries basically but will definitely get you by until entrees. For entrees, I ordered the Hawaiian catch. A lobster tail, scallop, fish and shrimp.. all cooked to perfection. My wife got the ahi like always and it didn't disappoint. Daughter wanted the ribeye which is expensive to me at $79.. being from Arizona but I wasn't going to tell her no and she enjoyed it. I tried a bite.. good but different than our beef here. Overall, we will return on our next visit to Kauai. You can't beat the service and ambience of this one of a kind restaurant. Sorry I didn't get food pics. It was a little too dark by the time we ate.
What a beautiful restaurant.
.. Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt Resort Kauai is a beautiful restaurant with great views and ambiance. The service is top notch, but the real winner is the delicious food. We started with cocktails, the dynamite crab cakes, and the Caesar salad. I love it when the salad is the little baby Romain heads. Makes it to cute and fun...lol! The crab cake...YUM! As for the main courses, my husband had the misoyaki pork chop with rice and veggies, and I had the Hawaiian catch that had lobster, shitome (Hawaiian swordfish), one shrimp, one scallop, and mashed sweet potatoes. The food was absolutely delicious! You might be wondering why I am only giving 4 stars instead of 5 with such a raving review. Well...my husband ordered an old fashioned that was supposed to be one of their specialty cocktails, and he said it was meh. He drank it anyway, but still. If the old fashioned is a specialty item, it better be good, not just meh. Also, the real miss here was that they were out of the dessert we ordered. We ordered the malasadas with assorted dipping sauces, and five minutes later our server returned to say they were out. How do you run out of dough?! Or how about telling us before we ordered that you were out. None of the other desserts were appealing to us, so we skipped out on a sweet treat. Overall though, Tidepools is really good. We would 100% eat here again.
Fell flat
We were disappointed in our experience. Our waiter seemed disinterested in serving us. The filet was overcooked and lacking flavor. The ambience was nice but we had to wait 35 minutes after our reservation time with a mostly empty restaurant at 830pm at night. When we checked in we were told if you would wait a few minutes we have some water view tables opening up. (I didn’t ask for this but when told that we agreed to wait. 36 minutes later they called us and brought us to a non view table in the middle of the restaurant. (Not sure why we waited for that table or were lead to believe we would get a view) I understand not everyone can have a view but on a Wednesday night at 840pm with maybe 10 tables full and asked to wait it was annoying). We came for the food first the view second and unfortunately the food fell flat. The ribeye was pretty chewy and filet bland and overcooked. On A positive note the Creme brûlée was good. The waiter Roy who waited on the table next to us seemed very engaging and enthusiastic. Our waiter was the opposite.
In the Hyatt.
Very nice setting though certainly hotel restaurant ambiance. Good mai tais. Very good seafood platter. Tasty fritters for desert.

I would give 10 stars if I could!! Considering the other meal options available on Grand Hyatt Kauai, I was not expecting much at Tidepools. Upon walking in we were greeted by a friendly waiter who directed us to our seat. Their dinner rolls are AMAZING, coated with garlic and üb. We ordered the baby lamb chops, salad, and Hawaiian fish. Let me just say that I have never had lamb so delicate and tasty?? But most of all, our server was who made our experience an 11/10. Alejandro was kind, warmhearted, and his radiant positivity was felt throughout the restaurant. Thank you Alejandro!!

Getting to a great meal is difficult.
The food was outstanding, however there was no mention of getting to the restaurant. My wife is handicapped walking with a cane, and the was no mention of taking an elevator down 1 floor and walking an additional 3 stories via a winding steep curvy Trail. ADA needs to view this place, once to the restaurant it is very picturesque with koi ponds, yes the food is A+ however getting via the trail is a -F.
Perfect
Having flown halfway across the world for our 21st anniversary I wanted a meal worthy of the occasion, this did not disappoint. Our server Martha was attentive and friendly. And the atmosphere was special. It is a higher end restaurant with ambiance to match and the food and wine did not disappoint. The view was spectacular whilst we enjoyed the fine dining. The Hawaiian catch was superb and cooked perfectly, whilst my companions also observed how flavorful the meals were. Topped with dessert to share and an Irish coffee it really was a night to remember.
Aways good, this time very good
This is a great example of why you should not shun all hotel restaurants. The setting, ambiance, service and food were all top notch. We. split an OK house salad which was served with way too delicious garlic rolls My wife then went for the lamb chop (four chops) which were done perfectly. I vacillated between the fish or the pork, both supposedly excellent. I opted for the pork ($61) dinner and can attest it was excellent. Loved the special way they prepared the rice. The real find was a bottle of Kim Crawford for $52. Total bill for a great experience with the meals, bottle and a glass of wine was $195 plus tip. It was well worth it. Added note: My wife has back issues and trouble walking and using stairs. We checked earlier, went to the hotel activity desk and they called security who used an employee elevator and their own wheel chair to get her down the side of the hill to the restaurant. This was easy and very helpful.
Very bland food and overpriced.
So overpriced for beautiful looking but extremely bland food! Had the mahi mahi . Very little taste . Same for the Ceaser salad. All disappointing.
Good, not great.
I was expecting an exceptional meal, however it was just average. The prices on the menu reflect the location of the grand Hyatt hotel, not the food. I was expecting better.
Great night!
Excellent experience. This atmosphere here is so nice and I really love that each table is a great location that feels very private and you don't feel overcrowded at all! Too many restaurants like that. I got the Pad Thai which was wonderful. The Hawaiian catch is still a favorite. Great service, definitely one of our favorite meals during our trip!
anticipated trying this....
very nice restaurant within a hotel, however, we were disappointed, first of all the hostess tried to seat us at a rather dark table away from the main area overlooking the water....there were quite a few tables available and after asking she did take us to another table...the menu was good with choices for vegetarian etc...my husband ordered the mahi mahi which we had had at several other places,, it did not compare to the other dinners, unfortunately, the bread was adequate, nothing special, as was the salad, just adequate...the fish came with some vegetables no rice...which is not a complaint just saying....with all the amazing reviews we were both rather surprised that the meal was just average....the waiter was not particularly attentive , all in all probably would not return.
This is a beautiful restaurant inside the Grand Hyatt
This is a beautiful restaurant inside the Grand Hyatt worthy of a special occasion. It has upscale vibes with a beautiful view over the pond with lots of Carp in the pond. Our server was super personable and we came here to celebrate a special occasion and she definitely made the experience incredible. Food-wise, the crab cakes were delicious and the ribeye was a highlight. The macadamia crusted fish was fine. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but found the price point a little too high to feel like it was worth coming back for. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get a reservation here, but if you don't mind dropping $70 on an steak entree; Tidepools might be your vibe!
Great ambience and location.
Food is pricey but very good. Have I had a better steak at a comparable price elsewhere? But was it located in a prime location in Kauai? No. All in all an enjoyable experience.

Spectacular service
Thank you, Les, for a wonderful dining experience. The menu is a little eclectic so there is something for everyone. I had never had Shutome and quite enjoyed it. The hamachi shashimi was delectable. The restaurant has such nice ambiance and lighting. It feels very cozy and romantic
Ambiance is lovely close to the beach and with the pool
Ambiance is lovely close to the beach and with the pool beneath but other than that the food is overpriced and poorly executed. Service was attentive and nice and they made recommendations. They bring out taro rolls but truthfully the just tasted like regular white bread. The polenta crusted scallops were just okay. The scallops were cooked well but the dish was served lukewarm which was immediately a turn off. The Hamachi sashimi was bland and severely overdressed with soy sauce and ponzu. The Hawaiian catch that evening was mahi as it often is (if I had a nickel for every time the daily catch at any Hawaiian restaurant is mahi I'd be rich haha). I am not a huge fan of mahi but I liked that it came with shellfish. The dish overall was good but not stellar. If you are staying at the Hyatt yes this is a convenient dining option but I'd recommend venturing off property for better more affordable food.

We had a great anniversary dinner with awesome food and a fantastic ambiance! Can't wait to go back next month!
Great atmosphere, food, and service.
Perfect place to enjoy being on Kauai. Juan was a fantastic server, the restaurant is set up beautifully to make each table feel special, and everything we ate was great. The Macadamia crusted fish was unique and delicious, scallops were great, drinks were fun, and dessert was good. Hoping to return in the future!
Highly Recommended Dinner Worth the Price
Tidepools is an excellent choice in the Koloa & Poipu Point area for dinner. We had an open table reservation 3 weeks in advance and yet the earliest we could eat was 8:15pm. We Had tried in the past via open table; yet after all, ,the restaurant was not full! Obvious conclusion is they cater to their Grand Hyatt clientele. The dinner was superb. Juan the waiter was excellent and knowledgeable. Service was 5 star. Food was 5 star. I settled on the decision to try the pork chop dinner which came with rice, asparagus and a special kimchee. Since my diet is low carb, Juan easily switched the rice to a Sweet potato mash The pork chop was cooked to perfection and was NOT dry, It had a glaze paired with it that made it very delicious. Rarely do I find sweet potatoes as a menu choice on Kauai. Asparagus was tender and tasteful. Kimchee was a delight. I realized that as a side dish it complimented the whole dinner; Onions and a touch of heat. Best kimchee I have eaten. Sweet potatoes were perfect. I have no complaint about the ambiance, food, and service which was 5 star excellent. Expect to deal with Valet parking and a journey to find the restaurant on the property; but one has only to ask and they are friendly. Most of the main dishes start at $54 to $61. This is a $$$$ restaurant and only the ala cart is $$$. If you want a superb meal and are willing to pay for it, the whole experience is worth the extra $$$$ price.
We chose this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday
We chose this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday during our vacation in Kauai. Although our reservation was at 8:30 pm, we arrived at 5 pm feeling famished. Surprisingly, the staff was incredibly accommodating and seated us immediately. Let's talk about the food - it was truly exceptional! We started with a variety of appetizers including poke, beet salads, and the scallop dish, all of which were absolutely fantastic. As for the main course, we ordered the mahi, forbidden rice, and chicken, and every dish was cooked to perfection. And let's not forget about the dessert - it was out of this world! Our server, Martha, deserves special recognition for her outstanding service. She was not only friendly but went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. The breathtaking view from the restaurant added to the overall ambiance, and we ended up spending a delightful 2.5 hours there. Overall, our experience at this restaurant was nothing short of excellent. From the attentive staff to the delicious food and stunning view, it was a truly memorable evening.
We came here for a special dinner and it was so delicious
We came here for a special dinner and it was so delicious and definitely the perfect ending for our special day. We sat in one of the private tables surrounded by the koi fish. Service was good. Ambiance was beautiful. The Hawaiian Catch was one of the best things I ate on the island, everything was so tasty and fresh. I hope we make this a tradition!
God food and service and lovely unique ambiance.
Very expensive and a fairly limited menu'. Never had chicken piccata or francese with a cream sauce but it was good. Wheelchair access is difficult and circuitous.
Outstanding! The service and ambiance was absolutely
Outstanding! The service and ambiance was absolutely perfect and our dinners were so good! The lamb chop appetizer was succulent and the salad was perfect; not overly dressed, just right! Our entrees were all top notch from steak to fish and I would be remiss if I didn't call out the warm bread...so good! We will be back!
Bad Karma
The hostess at this restaurant is undoubtedly the rudest I’ve run across in a long time. The hotel made the reservation but didn’t show on her screen. So no soup for you. Even after showing the hotel’s printout…it made her worse. Manager bought us cocktails. Guessing she is related to someone or there is a shortage of workers.
A Must-Visit Restaurant in Kauai
Tidepools provided a wonderful beginning to our time on Kauai. It’s a beautiful restaurant that has a dining area surrounded by water with fish and waterfalls. We ordered the crab cakes appetizer, Hawaiian Catch (mahi-mahi) and Shutome from our excellent server Robert, and each dish was immaculately prepared. Tidepools is now a permanent fixture on our list of places to visit in Kauai.
Wonderful Experience
Please send our thanks and highest compliments to our amazing waiter, Les. He provided not only the highest level of dining service but also the kindest spirit and pleasant conversation throughout our night. His suggestions for coursing the food and his thorough review of the menu allowed us to make choices that let us sample everything we wanted to try and truly enjoy it all. It is evident that he genuinely loves his job and embodies true Hawaiian spirit. The Hyatt is very lucky to have him!
Perfectly cooked food
What can you say about ultra high end restaurants like Tidepools? The ambience, gorgeous. The service, attentive. The drinks, tasty, but overpriced. The food is delicious. Reasonable portions with HI flare. I have to say, the food was perfectly cooked…everything…like perfect. If you’re into dropping several hundred bucks at dinner, this is as good as any place in the world to do it. If you prefer cheaper eats, head to town.
Beautiful setting, great food, and exceptional service.
Dinner here was exceptional. We started with Caesar salads and the beet and candied lemon appetizer. Sounds a little strange but very good. Main courses included the seared ahi, Hawaiian seafood special, and a swordfish special. All had outstanding flavors. Service by Ron was exceptional - very friendly but professional and knowledgeable. It is very expensive but is a good place to splurge while on vacation.
Excellent experience food and ambiance!
We had a fantastic experience at Tidepools. Our waiter - Juan elevated the experience with his excellent service. Food and ambience excellent - service top notch. Seek out Juan’s section he’s amazing and you will love the food!
Great people and great menu
Tidepools is a very unique setting in the middle of the Hyatt grounds, but yet only a foot or so above the tide pool water. The pools are manmade, but still a cool effect. The best thing was the service - the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Not far behind was the food which was locally driven in style. We enjoyed our dinner very much.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
