The Umstead Hotel and Spa Cary Reviews from The Last Year
Graduation at The Umstead
The accommodations are wonderful, the food and drink in the bar and the restaurant are also wonderful but it’s the staff that make it even better. Additionally, the curated art collection is superb and worthy of a museum. All in all a wonderful home away from home
Impeccable service
Beautiful property. But the service is what makes this a worthy destination. Room was clean modern and full of amenities. Restaurant was wonderful and catered to several food allergies without a problem. Didn’t get to see spa but will next visit. Will be back!
The Ultimate Spa Experience
From the time you pull up you can feel the warmth of the staff. Everyone you meet has a smile and are willing to help. We stay here several times a year. The hotel is immaculate and the rooms are beautifully situated to account for all needs including the luxurious showers. The products used give you the feeling you are at the spa. The food is creative and delicious and service impeccable whether you order room service or eat in the restaurant or bar area. The spa facility is 2nd to none and the experience, especially the facial is one of the best you can receive.
Everything was perfect from check in to valet service.
The service in the conference we were at was amazing as well. The housekeeping service is top notch! Seriously bring extra tip money for the housekeeping staff because they more than earn it. So clean and everyone is friendly. The rooms and views are great. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. The restaurant food and service exceeded my expectations. Thanks for a wonderful experience!
Romantic relaxation
Best hotel I've ever stayed at - and that's saying a lot. My wife and I enjoyed our one-night stay so much that we plan to make it an annual event - and for more than one night. Our only misgiving was that we went into Raleigh for some sightseeing. We should have just stayed at the hotel and enjoyed ourselves. A real treat!
Is there a better place to stay in the Raleigh area? Doubt
Is there a better place to stay in the Raleigh area? Doubt it. Obviously its located outside of downtown and clearly able to charge a premium price. The the main event is the hotel itself as there really nothing in the adjacent vicinity. The grounds are amazing and the hotel is sublime. Owned by a local high net worth executive's family office, it's truly a gem. By all means take advantage of the area and take a hike or go for a long walk or run. Enjoy the outdoor pool. Have a craft cocktail at the bar. Enjoy a fine dining experience at the restaurant. All of that is top notch. My only complaint is the staff of the spa - which is run separately. Decidedly uncooperative and not very welcoming, they STILL require a freaking face mask when you walk in (spring of 20224!!!!) - and in my case the woman would even answer my questions until I put one on. I called down 4 times from my room with no answer before I went down to inquire about a massage, and while I was waiting in the reception the phone rang no less than 20 times. No effort was made to even answer the phone and place the call on hold. Appears to be highly utilized by female homemakers in the city, so maybe they don't care about transient business. The difference in service, attitude, hospitality and attention could not stand more in stark contrast to the hotel proper - which truly was exceptional in every respect.
relaxation personified
this hotel was excellent. service was spectacular. rooms were impeccable and well appointed. the fitness room was above average. the bar was a great and lively place to enjoy a drink and watch a game. always a big fan of room service. the grounds were beautiful
Had to wait 20 min for a drink in the lounge.
Unacceptable. Place was empty. Hope they get ot right.
Outstanding visit
The bed and food are awesome. I love the arrival, they helped me a lot. The eggs and potatoes were delicious and the burger with fries is spot on. They helped me with the luggage. The people were helpful from start to finish. I hope to spend more time there in the future,
The Umstead Hotel is the only true 5 star in the Triangle we have experienced to date
My wife and I attended a business cocktail hour and sit down dinner and we were amazed at the level of attention paid to all attendees. Bartender/Server, Terry, went above and beyond. She would be a great asset to any event. After the event we stopped at the bar and were served by Kiera, who always had a smile and was the perfect amount of attentive. We stayed the evening and evening we interacted with (valet, front desk, lunch staff at restaurant, etc..) were highly trained and showed true concern for the customer. We plan on going back for date nights every couple of months!
Luxury experience
This is a one-of-a-kind luxury experience! Every aspect of the hotel was perfect: valet service, reception (check in), room quality & cleanliness, the spa, the pool, and Herons Restaurant. We were greeted in our room with a bottle of champagne and macaroons. The staff is beyond friendly and nice. The entire hotel is gorgeous, full of beautiful art and flowers. There is a lovely walking path outside around a little lake. It was a dreamy place for a special weekend.
The best of the best
By far the best hotel stay my husband and I have ever had. We have stayed at Fairmounts, Ritz Carltons, and other luxury hotels in the past, but none compare. The staff is amazing! So friendly, remembered our names (and those of our dogs), from the minute we walked in. Housekeeping was impeccable! Our two dogs loved the on-site dog park, especially after a long day's drive. And after mentioning the bellman know we were leaving early the next morning, our car was at the front door when we walked into the lobby at 6:30 a.m., and the person working at the desk brought the keys to my husband. Can't wait to find a reason to return to Cary and stay at the Umstead again!!!
I enjoyed visits to the Umstead in the past, but my most
I enjoyed visits to the Umstead in the past, but my most recent trip was a disappointment. The hotel now charges $170 PER PERSON to visit the spa for a 2 hour window! For our family of 4, this was not happening. Spa access used to be complementary in years past, but now they want a ton of money. No thanks! The hotel is beautiful and service is pretty good, but their new spa policy is crazy. I definitely won't be going back in the future.
I visited the Umstead Hotel recently for a corporate
I visited the Umstead Hotel recently for a corporate Christmas party. Upon arrival, we encountered some valet parking confusion, but since I had never been there, it wasn't a very big deal. When we entered the even room, we were greeted to a DJ, beer and wine bar, and an open liquor that was free because of the valet confusion. We dined on beef tenderloin with au jus, as well as a horseradish type sauce. Everything was delicious and the staff was very accommodating and made sure we were having a great time. I would definitely consider this venue for future events.
Beautiful venue and great opportunity to experience High
Beautiful venue and great opportunity to experience High Tea at its finest right here in the Triangle!
Just finished tea service at The Umstead.
Wonderful atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. The food at Heron's and the tea service in the bar area are highly recommended!
It's always great to find quality service with solid
It's always great to find quality service with solid amenities and the Umstead Hotel and spa delivers. It has a park like feel but quality food, service and spa. The grounds are well maintained and offers a paved walking trail and scenic pond. The pool and an accompanying bar and easy accessed from the ground level.
I recently did a staycation at the Umstead and it was truly
I recently did a staycation at the Umstead and it was truly amazing. Everything was five star service from room service, to the pool, to dinner. It was literally magical! At check-in we were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and since it was our anniversary they even had beautiful truffles and a mini bottle of wine with a card waiting for us. Such a nice touch! We started the afternoon with afternoon tea and it did not disappoint. I appreciated the variety of finger sandwiches, beyond what you would normally find at an afternoon tea. I do wish they just brought everything out together though. By the time desserts came out I was stuffed, I'd prefer to pick at things throughout the tea. They have expanded the pool deck and it's great. Plenty of space and we had no problem finding a lounge chair. I went to the pool twice and both times the pool staff were all super friendly and readily available. Next up was the spa! They recently did some renovations and the space is even nicer than before. I was a little thrown off at first that your time at the spa is limited. Basically you have around two hours + your appointment. It wasn't an issue since we were staying on property, but if you were just visiting for the day I could see this not being ideal. My massage was great though and I took advantage of all the amenities. Finally the room itself was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was great with the separate tub/shower and I loved how high tech the room was. Dinner at Heron's is also an experience not to be missed. Overall I 100% enjoyed my stay at the Umstead and hope to do it again one day. My only complaint is that man this place fills up. I called almost three months before the staycation and pretty much got the last of the massage appointments, last afternoon tea slot, and an 8:30pm dinner at Heron's. If you are staying here call to make your reservations as soon as possible, they fill up incredibly fast. I also didn't love how you can't reserve most things online and when you call they say the wait times are long and please hang up and try again later. I stayed on the line since every time I called I got that same message.
