The Spa at Newport Marriott Reviews from The Last Year
Don't Believe the Good Reviews
I haven't posted on TA in ages, just got out of the habit but after my recent stay at the Newport Marriott I felt I owed it to other travelers to post a review. I am a Marriot loyalist (Lifetime Gold Elite which in Marriott world means not much of anything) and try to stay at these hotels when available. I read the reviews and although there was mix of positive and negative there were enough good ones to book my 2 night stay. Here is what I found. This hotel is dirty! The hallway rugs are all filthy so starting there it's all downhill. I think all hotels should get rid of rugs in sleeping rooms especially like the Newport Marriott who makes zero attempt to keep them clean. Ours had brown spots on there (don't even want to think about what it could be) and large stains which grossed us out. We reported this to the front desk and they said we can't move you as we are full. Next best we asked for them to have housekeeping clean the rugs while we were out. We returned to the room and zero cleaning of the rugs, only thing they did was remove the filthy chair in our room which we requested. Laura at the front desk did discount our way overpriced room which was a good start, but not by enough considering the condition of it. They have a lot of nerve charging $719 (Friday) plus destination fee plus tax for a dirty room, I was appalled. We put towels all over the floor of our room and walked around in flip flops and at that price, RIDICULOUS. If people keep paying these prices for a run down hotel then I guess they will keep charging these rates. Worst lobby I have ever seen so I don't get calling this a beautiful hotel. There is a large open area which has nothing in it. They may use it for events but c'mon when you don't have one why not make it appealing? Breakfast buffet is the worst I have seen anywhere, the free one at a Hampton Inn is better. Location is great (trying to be positive). Let's talk about staff: Starbucks employees: Rock stars both of them (don't know names sorry)! A+ Valet: 10 out of 10 Vickie: Food and beverage manager A Laura: Step it up; throwing a little money at me doesn't improve my stay when you should have had my room inspected and would have seen that they did not clean the rug. Given the state of my room more should have been done. To the folks at Marriott you need to do better inspecting your properties and keeping them to a certain standard. Start here.
Overpriced
Valet excellent Front desk hit or miss. First Lady no mention of $30 credit. I would have never have know. 2nd guy explained everything. Also with First Lady I asked for an upgrade and was told they were fully booked. I remarked amazing how you are still selling premium rooms. Well she rolled her eyes and magically found me an upgrade. Why does Marriott offer titanium members and upgrade but then we have to fight for them. So other than her the staff is friendly. The guys running the valet are quick. The bar staff is good and the food is ok for a hotel. However breakfast buffet is embarrassing. Frozen muffins and croissants. None of which were good. I get the same thing at a Fairfield at 1/5 if the cost. It really is an horrible breakfast. Also the M club evening service is just down right pathetic. Why even offer it.
Good location next to the harbor
Nice hotel in a good location. Just at the beginning of Newport near the ferry dock. Comfortable room. Clean. Parking fee of $45. Easily walk to most locations but is next to the transportation center for the local tourist trolly. Breakfast was fine at Sails Restaurant. Everything you would expect from Marriott.
Falls Short
As a Marriott Elite member, i was disappointed with any extras the hotel provided. The M club we had access to was only open on Thursday and then closed Frida and Saturday during prime travel days- While the location was great, the rooms were sterile and lackluster- The front desk tried to be helpful but a few looked tired and bothered with any inquiries whatsoever- And the Starbucks older gentleman was zero help and was not friendly- I would say save your money and stay elsewhere where there is more charm and more excitement- this by far was the worst Marriott we have ever stayed in- When my 17 year old twins complain you know it is a bad sign!
Nice but dated
The hotel itself is beautiful. We didn't use many of the amenities. The staff was very nice and accommodating. It's fairly well located, including next to the transportation center, with free shuttles in the summer. What was disappointing was the room itself. In the bathroom, the wallpaper was peeling off the wall. And from a convenience perspective, the biggest complaint was that there were no outlets on desks or nightstands. That meant you had to have the phone charger plugged in on the floor which would require you tripping over it pretty consistently. Somebody really needs to update these rooms pretty quickly. For the money they charge, I'm sure there are better options.
Overpriced for dark, small room
The location is great, and I enjoyed my time in Newport. The room itself was an interior facing room, and was incredibly small, kind of musty and VERY DARK. Like too dark to try and get work done. I had been here several years prior and been impressed, but I don't think it's been updated since then. The room JUST fit two queen beds, no room for a chair or anything else. While this is fine, for $800+ per night for a weekend night, I should have gotten much more for my money. I'll certainly come back to Newport, but debatable if I'll stay here again.
Incredible time at the Newport Marriott
First trip back in 2024 and this place never disappoints. Facilities are maintained impeccably. The Hotel staff are prenominal dedicated workers from Laura at Reservations through Greg at food service who oversees the M Club. The Newport Marriott is one place that takes care of their Bonvoy Titanium elite member which is the reason we come to this wonderful establishment so often.
Wonderful Stay in Newport!
We had a wonderful stay at the Newport Marriott. The staff was very helpful and provided wonderful assistance. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed drinks at their bar. Many restaurants are within walking distance too. There is a resort fee, but they have great options (Newport Winery, Tennis Hall of Fame, and more). Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I am lifetime titanium member with Marriott, and this hotel acknowledged my loyalty in how they treated me. Very convenient location for visiting Newport. Looking forward to staying there again.
The worst experience: a nightmare!
This hotel is the worst! No titanium benefits; poor service, horrible check in; lounge closed for season! No pantry. Restaurant closed. Forced all guests into their bar to eat with limited bar type seating, kids included. Kids everywhere running around making noise all day & night. Had to park offsite even tho their parking empty; holes in sheets, room service order wrong, bar food order also wrong. Has a very negative atmosphere in and around the hotel. Had to fight to reduce stay from 3 nights to 1 night, and couldn't get out of there soon enough. This place needs new management asap!!!
Worst interaction with front desk staff ever had at ANY hotel .
Absolutely the most unfriendly and dare I say combative front desk interaction had in my life. I have never written of review before. I have been a Marriott platinum elite member for 25 years. Was asking a simple question about adding an additional night pending inclement weather and their 5 day cancellation policy and was met with the most rude and nasty person who said “obviously you know more than I do” - I don’t know what to tell you “. Not sure if this was just a bad day for her or if this is how she genuinely operates. A very bad look for Marriott. And frankly horrible feeling for Newport.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
