Please beware! We planned to have a family event at the Sagamore and booked four rooms. Less than 8 hours later after discovering that most of the hotel's restaurants were closed except two we decided to cancel the reservations. The hotel charged $200 ($50 PER ROOM) regardless of the short time within we had made our cancellation. Since the four rooms were in one group order we requested that a single charge of $50 would seem more appropriate. Despite the brief time frame and of the group booking, the hotel charged us $200 regardless. Although this is their policy for cancellations, I believe the circumstances should have resulted in a more reasonable penalty. We have stayed there in the past but will never do so in the future.

I've never left a yelp review before but I feel compelled to today after not only probably the worst service but also must uncomfortable meal I've ever had. Our waitress, Sydney, made the whole meal ($250 of which was paid for the igloo... before food and bev) absolutely so uncomfortable, took forever to bring anything, did not communicate and was shocked when we tried to order anything. If we could have left and got our money back we absolutely would've. Skip the igloo, it's not worth your $250.... But also... Sagamore; for being a 5 star hotel you should really vet who you have working for you. On the bright side, Stefani and Don were great! But again; do not put a server in front of patrons that excessively make them feel uncomfortable.
Be the first to Replyafter leaving our review, we received a call from the hotel.
they were sincere and agreed to cancel and refund our reservation. they explained to us that we spoke with the wrong department to cancel; although, I did ask the CSrep to transfer me, she would not, hence the review. ultimately, the situation has been resolved, and I appreciate their attention to their business ratings and reviews and the immediacy to our concerns.

Let me start out by saying that this property is in an absolutely beautiful location on Lake George. Unfortunately, that is most of the positives of the Sagamore. Now, the negatives from two frames of reference: the hotel itself, and what it's like to have your wedding here. The property is split into the lodges (cheaper, not facing the lake, and attached to the main hotel) and the actual Sagamore main building. For our wedding, we stayed in the main building in one of the bigger suites facing the lake. The hotel is historic, but as the rooms have not been updated, it has the same charms as staying in a funeral home. The rooms have that distinct "old" smell baked right into the carpet and bedding. The bathroom fixtures gives you memory of the 80s (note: I mean 1880s, not 1980s), with toilets that are not flush to the wall (what a pun) nor aligned with it, and a sink smaller than an antique middle school water fountain. Imagine getting prepped for your wedding with those materials, it's a blast! The fridge in the room is not concealed by anything, and the low hum is just loud enough to keep you up at night wondering why you've chosen to have your wedding here. An existential crisis that'll be sure to keep you guessing, as you look over at the "still hanging in there" antique furniture that was on its way out 50 years ago, the last time someone had the misfortune of giving a damn about maintaining this place. The room was over $800 a night in 2022, in October. Don't worry! Your breakfast is NOT included, so you can really feel the value. They also charged a resort fee (which I believe is illegal in NY) without any of the resort facilities being open. All the benefits of 1 star accommodations at the 5 star price. Nice. The worst part about all of this is they can charge that much because of their location. They offer NOTHING of value to justify their price besides the area around the hotel. Anything could be here to make use of this beauty and charge a premium. Hell, why not just have a Walmart here with windows? That would be pretty cool. But the poor rooms are not the main cause of my problems with this place. Trying to plan a wedding at the Sagamore has been one of the worst experiences in my life, and I mean that sincerely. The 8 months of planning, from tour date to wedding date, was nothing but pure stress and agony. I know planning a wedding is not easy, it's stressful, whatever. Doing so at the Sagamore makes everything much, much harder. When touring, they'll be excited to make you feel like you should spend your tens of thousands of dollars on the beautiful location. They'll answer your questions thoughtfully, tell you they're there whenever you need them in case there any concerns or questions, and that they'll do everything in their power to make the experience perfect. Then you put your down payment in, and there will be radio silence until the next payment is due. You are not important. You are not cared about. They'll only care maybe a week before your wedding. We had tons of questions due to the ambiguous language in the wedding packet. We'd send e-mails over. Nothing. We'd call. Leave voice mails. No returns. In the winter/spring months? "Oh, this is our low volume time so we're mostly out of office." In the summer/fall months? "Oh, this is our busy season so we can't get back to you." Great! They're around to help you 0% of the whole year! AMAZING. Those drapes you see in all of the brochures and pictures? Not included. You need to rent them from another vendor for 4k+. No need to let you know that until you put your deposit down! Oh, you'd like to taste the food? Well we'll only let you taste some of it. Also, if you want to invite anyone with you, it's $150. That's right. $150 to let your parents come with you. That's so COOL. Don't worry, when money is involved, they'll be HAPPY TO TELL YOU. Also, my father reserved the rehearsal dinner room in May, and we had an e-mail confirming as such. 4 days before the rehearsal dinner, our planner told us the reservation was CANCELED. My own planner (shout out to BigAndLittleEvents, highly recommend) salvaged this situation with a really strong e-mail detailing how poor of an experience working with the Sagamore has been. Somehow, we got our reservation back (the one we've had for 5 months). The sales team at this place needs to be removed entirely and restarted. Every single person on that team showed extreme incompetence and gross negligence. It's been a year now, but I hope someone has heavily reviewed the staffing and ceremoniously fired the individuals involved. I do not regret having my wedding at the Sagamore, but I do regret putting my wife and myself through the unquantifiable amounts of absolute bullshit this place put us through. I recommend all who consider booking this place as a wedding venue to ask yourself: how much is your mental health worth during this joyful time of your lives?

Old school and a little dated but location location location. Fun atmosphere for families with a variety of dining options. Beautiful property and lovely staff.

From my google review: I have been here once before and what a beautiful property. However, I had a severe issue with a handcuff attached to the cot bed. I brought this up with hotel staff. There best offer was to send maintenance to remove the handcuff from the bed. When I asked them if we could move out of there because clearly it wasn't thoroughly cleaned or checked through, the best they could offer was a lodge further down the road. Quite disappointed.

Another amazing experience at The Sagamore! This hotel is definitely a must-visit when in Lake George. I've stayed here a few times but never with kiddos, which means I hadn't paid too much attention to kids activities. During my most recent visit I really appreciated all that they had to offer for my two year old - a huge indoor activity center with a playground, mini golf, basketball, tee ball and more. Plus an outdoor playground, a soccer court and a cute little area for s'mores with a firepit and a s'mores truck. Another great perk for traveling with kids is that you can book a condo style room that comes equipped with laundry and a full kitchen. Plus tons of extra space which you can't beat. When the kids fall asleep there's nothing better than having a room with an outdoor patio. I do wish they had a bit more for kids around the pool / lake area though. Maybe some fun floats, a trampoline, etc. The grounds are lovely and so well manicured. It's never hard to find a lounger and the view of the lake is incredible no matter where you are. There are plenty of on-site restaurants and you are only a few minutes away from the main ave in Bolton with tons of shops, eateries and a grocery store. The onsite restaurants are spendy, but the food is always top notch. And if you want a poolside drink or bite you obviously can't beat the convenience of eating at the resort. Staff is always friendly and helpful. We had to make a change in our non-refundable reservation, and they helped accomodate us which I really appreciated. Overall this is an exquisite resort and really can't be beat if you are heading up to Lake George. Looking forward to more future vacations!
Be the first to ReplyI don't get it.
OVERPRICED & OVERRATED!! This is rated a 4 or 5 Star hotel I guess it's only because there is no other resort around. Granted the views are nice but it's Lake George and every establishment on the lake has a nice view. The grounds are beautiful and there are plenty of amenities but none of which justifies the price. It's like staying at an old estate that used to be nice when it was new but now it's only appealing for it's nostalgia. The decor is faded and the room has that musty lake town smell we're all familiar with. Snapped a few pics of some of the stained decor afraid to use the outlet other things like busted window shutters not shown. The wait staff was down right horrible. We were a group of 15 attending a wedding all had the same bad experience with the staff one couple was outright insulted i'll let them tell their story. You would think for calling themselves a RESORT everything would be clean and up to date. This place is not a resort. Unfortunately you have other options so you are hostage to their rates if you stay there. The parent company owns other properties i'd hesitate to go based on the way this one is run.

Grounds kept up beautifully, food great. Kid friendly with an overall chill vibe. Not inexpensive.

I had a fabulous stay at the Sagamore Resort with three other couples for a fun friends weekend getaway this past October. The grounds, rooms, food, and service were all superb and definitely 5 star, but the real standout for me was the spa. I had a customized facial with Janice who completely transformed my dry, sensitive skin. It was wonderfully relaxing as well as therapeutic. I purchased some of the Kerstin Florian products she used, and I just called the spa (four months after my visit) to reorder those same products...something I have never done before. Special shoutout to massage therapist Jennifer for melting away my stress, aches and pains during my 90 minute Signature Custom Massage. It was the best massage of my life! I can't wait to visit again!
Be the first to ReplyHow disappointing.
We had stayed at The Sagamore a while back for our anniversary. I reserved a suite and told them it was our first stay and a special occasion. Upon arrival we were put in what appeared to be Staff quarters. Small dirty room. They said there was a wedding and our suite had been given away. Today, being in the area again, we pulled in the driveway to give them a second chance. Bear in mind it is early Feb. 2023 and there is not much going on in Bolton Landing. We just wanted to see the place again but the Gate Guard told us we couldn't go in unless we were having lunch. We agreed and he asked (not nicely) for $10 for the privilege of entering the property. Kind of turned us off, so we left. We happen to be staying at a $500/night place in Lake George Village. Im just disappointed in the overt greed and lack of consideration this place has. No more chances.

I just checked in and the manager ( his name is Connor ) of this resort destroyed my weekend. I have a service dog and this person is saying I can't stay in a main lobby to check in . I have all papers and ID to proof that my dog is the service dog . He was keep yelling at me about my dog . My dog is A SERVICE ANIMAL!!!!! He was so rude to me and even didn't want to check the law . I would never stay at this place again and don't recommend anyone as well . P.S nobody is answering my phone calls or email about this situation
Be the first to ReplyI was lucky to come here for a conference.
Some reviews talk about how dated it is, I'm used to camps in the Adirondacks and it's just gorgeous if you take it for all the other fantastic things. It was clean, it was comfortable, the setting is beautiful the staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurants and conference service were outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyI have always liked this place.
I've been coming here almost every summer since 2000, long before opal bought this place and put in the outside pool and changed the breakfast room and made that balcony for outside seating for it. Before opal bought this place, the Sagamore had their own boats you were able to rent and take out right from their own docks for the day if you wanted.
Be the first to ReplyEveryone was nice and helpful.
The facilities were super. The Game Room was great for kids and adults. Pool areas are great. We had a horrible time getting our room cleaned. They never showed up but one day out of 5. The food & drinks were extremely overpriced, if you really want to experience reasonably priced food/drink. Just go on the main Bolton landing strip, there are plenty of super places to go.
Be the first to ReplyWe made last minute plans to visit Lake George for Labor
We made last minute plans to visit Lake George for Labor Day weekend, but we couldn't get a room here because they were full. We did, however, make plans to visit and have dinner one night to see if we'd like to stay here in the future.Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were told we'd have to pay $20 to park. I understand having to pay for parking in Manhattan, where parking is limited, but even there, restaurants often validate. Space is certainly not an issue, as the map shows they have several large parking lots. When I voiced my surprise about the parking fee, the gate attendant starting talking about politics, which also surprised us. We just wanted to eat dinner and see the resort, not get into a political discussion. At this point we decided to head back to the village and have dinner at one of the restaurants there.

Incredibly beautiful location- can't beat it for breathtaking vistas of the Lake. BUT, the worst guest relations I've ever had! The manager was stone faced when I went to front desk to lodge a complaint. We were paying over $500.00 night for our room, and it was part of an adjoining room with a door. We could hear everything from the room next door , all conversations, when they went to bed, when they woke up, etc. I said this is unacceptable and with no" I'm terribly sorry, let me see what we can do", instead he replied with no expression at all "do you want to change rooms then"? Yes, of course we do! This is not how a high end hotel resort should operate. They are in the hospitality business. I asked how he will compensate for this issue, and he said he would give us 15% off the room. This seemed fair, but when the bill arrived, they only took 15% off of one night. A big $75.00. I recommend going for a drink or meal at the Sagamore but do not stay there!

Sublime setting! This restaurant is at the Sagamore Hotel which effortlessly gives off an old worldly vibe. It felt like we were in Europe and not in the US.We were surprised to find this restaurant was located in the famous hotel but we were very excited when we got there to see the most perfect sunset. We read reviews before and we were cautious about ordering but I have to say...we didn't experience any of the issues which we read about - poor service/ bad food.We had a great meal and service was good. It is a busy place but we were in no rush...prepared to lap in the experience. The salmon was very very good - cooked perfectly! The strawberry shortcake was our shared dessert and it was great. There was just one curious thing of note - we felt the menu needed more local fish options. We had just done a tour of Lake George and heard what an exceptional fishery it is. I would have thought there would be more local fish options but that is just an observation. We are going to return
Be the first to ReplyBEWARE.
...We are paying $2,000/night for a superior balcony suite. First off The rooms are extremely dated and look nothing like the pictures provided on the website. Second and most importantly there's a loud wedding party currently going on while we are trying to sleep at 10pm. The noise is so unbearably loud it feels like we are at a night club. We called to complain they replied saying that they get a lot of complaints about this, there's nothing they can do, and that all the rooms are booked... Oh, and that there is also a wedding the following night as well...Great! They have NO business selling guests these rooms. I wish I could attached a video of the sound.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time staying at the Sagamore.
I was a little nervous due to some not so nice reviews about the Sagamore. I am so happy I stayed here with my family and my mini golden doodle. First everyone at this hotel goes out of there way for you and so very welcoming and friendly. The grounds are beautiful and the views of Lake George are amazing. My boys loved the lake and the pool and playing basketball at the Rec Center. The food here we enjoyed as well. I can not recommend this place enough and we come up every summer but, we usually stay at other places but, we will be coming back to the Sagamore for sure. My family had a great time here and so so nice the staff.

We called for reservations and to make sure they weren't charging 20.00to park . We were told no parking fee this time of year . We got there for Father's Day dinner and were charged 20.00 to park. This is so sad and outrageous.

Went for what I thought would be a lovely brunch at the lakehouse at the sagamore and left with a sour taste in my mouth! I arrived at the gatehouse and was told just to go and spend money on lunch I had to pay $20 to park which was not listed anywhere on the website dining area for the lake house. The service was amazing and the view spectacular but to be charged $20 on a weekday just to park at the property I'm going to eat at when there was ample parking and it wasn't even busy was very disappointing. I would go back for the view and service if I could swallow paying that much for parking and crappy food. I was very disappointed in the food (luke warm hot dog and potato chips for $15 was ridiculous) but the view and service was great!

Sad. Just sad. The service is abysmal. The grounds are not maintained. No mulch, no weeding. Felt super run down in comparison to years past where they really cared about the looks and feel of the place. The air conditioning didn't work in our room but we were on such a tight schedule and drove so far we didn't want to bother changing rooms so we let it slide. The staff didn't clean up after guests until animals picked on the food. We stay in the lodges and it's common for guests to leave a plate or a glass outside their outdoor entrance for pickup... risky move now as we constantly had litter outside the door because the staff who rode around the famous aimlessly wouldn't pick up the plates and we had animals come and clean plates. They are a dog friendly hotel. Love that. However none and I mean none of the doggie waste stations had any bags left for our entire stay. Staff noticed and just didn't address. They also didn't change the garbage often and animals got into those too throughout the entire campus. Staff would step over trash on the sidewalks. It's jarring to see so many employees not care at all about this lovely historic hotel. Half the restaurants weren't open when we were there despite some employees saying they would be. It seems the right arm doesn't know what the left is doing across the entire hotel. Front desk was a mess and everything seemed just so discombobulated. However when it came to walking my dog on campus they were super quick to run over and tell me what parts we weren't allowed to walk on despite for years always being allowed to. Just felt robbed for the amount of money spent. No customer focus and it shows. So sad as we love it here and pray it turns around.

Everything was great except for the fact that we had to pay 20$ to park in a gravel parking lot 5 min walk away from the restaurant which nobody mentioned when we made the reservation. Despite this, Our waiter Glen was phenomenal and showed us a great time.and definitely deserves a raise.
