I booked a table here on impulse and without looking at the menu, expecting a solid if fairly predictable steak restaurant. What it turned out to be though was so much more.This restaurant is a level above many chophouse restaurants: think small menus that vary by the day, genuinely interesting and innovative food, and easy-going but impeccable service. It's priced to match, too - budget £50 a head if you're having three courses - but it's money well spent.Some of the fare on the menu was fairly predictable, after all, a steak is a steak, no matter how expertly prepared. Other entries though were novel and interesting: salt beef croquettes, for instance, weren't something I'd ever seen before. Nor were beef dishes involving XO sauce, which is apparently seafood-based, and works surprisingly well.Drinks-wise there's a selection of pretty interesting cocktails, and a broad wine list.My only complaint is that the only steaks available were on the large (and correspondingly pretty expensive) side. Faced with the prospect of 400g of meat to get through, I ended up ordering a different dish. As it happened, I'm glad I ended up having something new and interesting, but some slightly smaller steaks on the menu would still be good to see.
