"Never meet your heroes", they say.
The basis of course is people and things rarely live up to the hype. The Plaza does. Kevin McAllister was right to hold up here over Christmas. The location itself is perfectly situated in both the heart of New York (Central Park) and businesses, big and small, within arm's reach. The building itself could have gone to the way of ancient ruins and lived on the memories of what was and not what is. Instead, the building itself has been immaculately preserved and, in our case, remodeled with a nod to its original glory. What is all this glory without service. There is no slippage there either. We got a sense of the bespoke experience before our trip, dealing with customer service by phone. From that point forward, we have been met with a constant expressions of attention to detail and service. I still don't know what our butler does but should the need ever arise, I know he's a push of a button away. I don't know if I could stay anywhere else in the city ever again.

Recently stayed here on a guys' weekend NYC getaway because a friend insisted on "only the best". The room was opulent and the food was incredible. And none of that matters because literally every person who works in this place is rude as hell. Seriously, if you're not famous, or famously wealthy, don't bother. I'm not one of those weirdo boomers who demands "service with a smile" because I know how bad service jobs can be, but I had to take a minute to hype myself up for EVERY interaction with the staff, no matter how simple, because I knew it'd be a struggle. It doesn't matter if you're calling the front desk to ask the restaurant hours, or if you're asking security where the elevators are. Literally every single employee has their nose turned up at you and acts like they've got more important things to do than answer your questions. If The Plaza staff is this adverse to helping guests, there's no telling what corners everyone's cutting behind the scenes. Cannot recommend.

Hands down the most legendary hotel in all of New York! The Plaza is the famous hotel that Kevin McAllister stayed in the movie "Home Alone 2", it's also the hotel that the book and movie "Eloise at The Plaza" is based off of. There's an iconic scene in the 1973 movie "The Way We Were" starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford that takes place in from of The Plaza where she brushes his hair and says, "Your girl is lovely Hubbell". It was reenacted in the TV series "Sex and the City" where Carrie Bradshaw and Big have a similar encounter in front of the hotel. It's also in the 2009 movie "Bride Wars" with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. Let's just say I'm a movie and TV buff! Anything that's featured on the big screen, I want to visit! I made it my goal during my trip to NY to stay here at the hotel. It cost me $1,300 a night (Yup! you read that right!), I stayed for a couple of days during New Year's. The hotel is pretty, but honestly the interior was a bit underwhelming. I was expecting a grand lobby, but it was a bit ordinary. My room however was gorgeous, I had a terrace room which had its own private patio. I loved the luxurious bathroom and tub. The mattress itself was a bit stiff, I would have thought they would have invested in a nicer mattress for their hotel. The room came with butler service, they'll set out your slippers for you and even have a laundry tray set out at the end of the night. Overall, I did enjoy the room. The Plaza is conveniently located on Fifth Avenue near all the high-end shopping, and it faces Central Park. The only thing I didn't enjoy about The Plaza was the service I received after my stay. It was insane trying to get ahold of someone to get an invoice, whenever I called they re-routed me multiple times to different departments and I was even hung up on. When they finally did email me the invoice it was done in a rude manner. I think there's a glitch or something in their system since I've been routinely receiving other guests' invoices too. I guess beware about your personal information being sent to others.

$150/pp $54 tip & then tax. Wouldn't have minded so much if there has been " service". Our waiter greeted us and took our tea order. Staff then plopped a beautiful filled tray on our table... no explanation or formality. Delivered it as if they were delivering an extra napkin. Items were good, but predominantly sweet. The scones were chocolate and chive cheese... not sure what they wanted us to do with the clotted cream, fruit preserves or lemon curd- put them on the savory or chocolate scone? Felt like it wasn't well thought out. " attentive service would have warranted that hefty a tip. No more US high teas for me.. passing a few here will pay for my flight to UK where they know how to do a proper " tea".

I reserved a room for a special occasion during outbreak of Covid. I put down a $2000 deposit. The hotel closed for a year and I could not stay at hotel. I did not feel comfortable staying after it opened as there was still a high Covid incidence, civil unrest and a skyrocketing crime rate in NYC. When I recently went to book a room the hotel refused to allow me to use the deposit stating it had "expired." How does money that didnt cost the hotel a dime expire? The Plaza rooms are currently $1000 per night. All I was asking for was a 2 night stay for the $2000 they took from me. Ill let you decide but I certainly cannot recommend a hotel that takes my hard earned money for nothing. Remember they opted to close and canceled my reservation. The staff took my case all the way to the Director of Finance of the Plaza who refused to help. Shame on you Plaza Hotel!

We were not guests at the hotel but thought we might be able to come in for breakfast. The staff was lovely and able to accommodate. The restaurant was beautiful, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. We ordered a simple eggs benedict and it was terrible. I'm giving the review a three star because of the location and the beauty of the dining room and hotel. One star for the food. I was there a few years ago for Christmas and had cocktails and that was worth it.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful iconic hotel.
Enjoyed high noon tea and crumpets with my love. The waitstaff was delightful especially Elvis. Excellent variety of teas and small bites, a bit pricey but well worth it. They also serve mock-tails for my sober folx. Overall experience was excellent. We appreciate the hospitality, good conversation and the overall ambiance.

For our anniversary, we decided to splurge on a stay at The Plaza. Elegant, ornate, and familiar due to watching Home Alone as a kid. The hotel stands on its own without the Home Alone connection. However, to make the most of our stay, we decided to get room service a la Kevin. We ordered some lobster rolls and the legendary Home Alone ice cream sundae. The lobster rolls were out of this world! The ice cream was just okay. The experience was lovely. For the price, I was expecting a higher quality ice cream. The toppings were great - especially the raspberry sauce. Did we finish the ice cream? Obviously not - it's 16 scoops of ice cream with whipped cream, maraschino cherries, M&Ms, brownie bits, chocolate, caramel, and raspberry sauce. Who can finish that? The Home Alone sundae is a part of the room service menu, so we didn't need to reserve it in advance. I don't think I would get the ice cream sundae again, but we would get the lobster rolls for sure! Overall service at the hotel was outstanding. The hotel was beautiful. The location was convenient.

To say our stay was lackluster would be a polite way to say it. Everything was a complete disappointment, from the lack of good and knowledgeable staff to an uncaring attitude. Let me just start at the beginning. Upon check in I asked if there was an ATM in the hotel and we were told YES there was, but it was located in the spa which was closed. Since I was going to the spa in the morning, I was content to wait. Upon my arrival in the spa, no ATM. An encounter with a bellman in the elevator confirmed there was no ATM in the hotel. That same morning my Fiancé went to the front desk to request a newspaper and was told there were not any and they must be requested in advance. Understandable so he did just that for the following morning. The next morning we leave for a quick walk to grab a coffee, no newspaper. Stop at the front desk to inquire, and we are told his request from the day before was not properly entered into the system. I was not pleased and chose to walk away and return to the room to get ready for the day. Now let me start on the room. Our hot water was almost non existent in the bathtub, bathroom sink and shower. The climate control in the room did not work and it was like a sauna in there. The bed and pillows were hard as rocks and quite frankly the most uncomfortable we have ever slept in at a 5 star hotel. It has been 7 years since I had the pleasure to stay at the Plaza and I can tell you it is no the same. I have never stayed anywhere else in the city and I will never return after this stay. There are way too many options in this amazing city to spend a fortune on bad service, rooms that have zero comfort and offer much to be desired. My only compliment goes to Maria at the spa, who gave me one of the best massages I have ever had.
Be the first to ReplyI didn't actually live here for obvious reasons.
It was really really expensive. However, there's a market in the basement of this hotel, which is accessible to everyone. I often go there after I visited the central park. They have quite a few vendors. A lot of different food selections to choose from. Most importantly, they have a public bathroom you can use. if you have ever been to new york, you know how hard it is to find a public bathroom when you're outside. Overall. if you are ever in the are, and you want to check out this historical hotel (it was featured in Home Alone), definitely stop by check out its inside, and visit the food market in the basement.
Be the first to ReplyThe old world charm of the plaza is nonexistent.
Most of the staff there is not happy and not interested in helping the clientele. We waited for everything, including the doorman, bellhop and waiters at the restaurant and the bar. We had the same experience with in room dining. There is no communication and mass confusion. The plaza is totally overrated and not worth the price of admission. I found the staff condescending and arrogant when they finally got around to serving us, I feel they are all entitled. I won't be going back anytime soon. If I can give it less than one star, I would.

Went inside to look at the architecture and take some pictures before meeting a guy i knew who was staying there. instantly got stared at by uppity security guards and bell boys. After that i went on this staircase and didn't know where i was and this group of very nicely dressed uptight b words walk out and start giving me a hard time. This one woman with a botox face asked where j was going and i said floor 3 she said this wasn't floor three. Then this suck up with a beer belly and receding hairline who was only there to serve tho guest rudely asked me what i was going to do when i got there i said look around and take some pictures he arrogantly asked me if i was a guest and when i said no he screamed at me that i had to leave and that if i wasn't staying in there hotel i couldn't be even around. I responded that i know someone who is staying there and he said " yeah right it doesn't matter you aren't staying here" after that i then left and met up with my associate who said he had been treated rudely there also and that there rooms were overpriced. We both agreed we would never stay here ever again.

What can I say, Home Alone really sets the bar high for this hotel - but it delivers. We were greeted by Blake who helped us with our bags and welcomed us to the hotel. He was very patient and escorted us to the front desk.Russell is one of the best hotel professionals we've had the pleasure of meeting. He was kind and welcoming. He let us know where everything was and personally showed us multiple room options. He was excellent. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the gym on the 4th floor was filled with brand newel equipment. We really enjoyed using it. We asked for room service to deliver at 10AM and they arrived exactly on time.A perfect stay. Thank you so much!

The Plaza is an iconic hotel here in NYC, that still has high tea. Highly recommend! It was such a treat for a friend to invite me on my special day to enjoy amazing white glove formal service which I highly appreciated, and enjoyed. In addition to lite food pairings, and the exquisite desserts.I loved every detail, and quality of the food. Because of the upscale atmosphere I wanted to be mindful with taking pictures on my cellphone.Must make a reservation, and follow the dress code business professional. The Plaza reserves the right to deny entry if not properly dressed.

Overall I would recommend the hotel, but for a night or two, and I would lower expectations if I were to give them another try.Atmosphere, location and history of the hotel are unmatched. The majority of the staff, especially the bellmen, were so helpful and lovely. It's a shame that a pocketful of little things can dampen the experience but it did.So much was so good, but what didn't go well was really strange. Starting with the booking, I requested a view of the park and was assured I would have one on the 4th floor. Our view was of an office building. I was told by the front desk that the Christmas trees might be coming down because they would be dried out by January... they were fake. The blinds were broken in the room, the cups never washed. When room service was out of cake we went on a late night expedition... when we came back in thru a side door security yelled at me not to use the door. I'd had used it 3x prior that night but he was insistent he'd been there all night? Should it not be locked if it's a security concern? It was freezing. I went for the door closest to cake but this man took it personally. Two days later I went up the wrong red stairs which I did not realize were for the residences. A different guard gave me more sass than I've ever gotten from anyone in my life even as I was apologizing. I got flustered, turned around and headed off in the wrong direction. When I passed him he smiled and laughed at me. I wish I was exaggerating.

A doorman in the back where the food hall used to be just told us that they are a place of business and not a tourist trap. We were trying to check out the bar and rooms. Since they are not so fond of out of town visitors, we will explore other options. NYC rudeness at its finest!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the things on my personal list has always been to
One of the things on my personal list has always been to stay at the Plaza Hotel during Christmas. As someone who grew up when Home Alone was in theaters it seemed like a holy-land type pilgrimage. So I booked this for one night the week of Christmas. And the following are tips that in being here one night should help you tremendously: 1.) When checking in - pull in on the side of the building facing the parklet NOT CENTRAL PARK! If you pull in, put your 4-ways on and find a bell-hop they will load up your luggage and bring it in while you check in and take your luggage to the room. 2.) Always keep your room card on you coming in and out of the building. There was some goofball who was given a little too much power who hounded everyone and then tried piping me INSIDE the hotel for my room key. I must not look like the Plaza type. We had a deluxe king room - whatever that means - the bathroom was large with a large tub, a shower walk-in, and a toilet walk-in. Luxurious and spacious. The room was great - television worked and we ordered an ice cream sundae late-night. The bed was very comfortable and even when we were out at night they turned down our bed and pulled out the slippers etc for us ready to go. So is it worth the price tag? I don't know I would say it's as close to effortless hotel stay as it gets but once may be enough for quite awhile. Every guests thinks they are more important than the next and it's just sweaty in there with people cut from that cloth. Shower / bathroom, as well as the concierge and bellhops are top notch.
