This is the first time at the restaurant.
The food was delicious and the ambience is beautiful. Our waiter Asami was pleasant and wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyAsami gave excellent service and food is delicious .
I had the duck and it was done wonderfully. The dining room is beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance - Filthy.
The group of bus boys and waiters/waitresses only clean the tables by pushing the crumbs to the floor. They don't even look at the cloth seats, which wreak od old spillage. Service - Female waitresses are better and more attentive and quicker. Food. The food is excellent, but the pairings are strictly enforced as if you aren't paying a high price for the meal. Substitutions aren't allowed even if they go get your manager. UNFAIR AND BIASED treatment. If there is anyone of brown MELANIN,okay BLACK or LATINO, the waiters get to them last. Been there 4 times with my friend and I tried to ignore it but this happened . ..Go elsewhere. Nice Matin is a better option with a similar menu but greater taste, service, ambiance, and attention.
Be the first to ReplyThe space is gorgeous, I'll give them that.
But it was close to sweltering during our visit, where the exposed windows made it feel even warmer inside. Brunch menu consists of various Benedicts and not enough non-egg items. My lox was really great, and the fries were hot and seasoned well. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was lovely, and I'd consider returning if the temperature is figured out.

Perfect for a birthday brunch! The pastry basket was AMAZING!
Be the first to ReplyWe had an amazing experience at The Milling Room.
The restaurant is gorgeous! The main dining room is a large room that is bathed in light with the help from skylights. We arrive early to the UWS. Once we checked in at the host stand, we were directed toward the bar. I ordered a scotch, I'm guessing Lagavulin? I ordered it neat and it was smokey, nice starter. We took our drinks and were escorted to the main dining room. We started with a delicious cheese board. The cheese that was chosen was high end, I loved the blue cheese! The roasted beet starter was also a great choice, the beets were sweet, I could eat just this dish and be happy. I ordered the Squid Ink Linguine, another solid dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the squid ink pasta has a briny - salty note and the fish made this a treat that was fun to eat. I highly recommend The Milling Room, its a beautiful space with terrific food
Be the first to ReplyWe had a really awful experience here.
Service was incredibly slow, the staff was rude and the food was average at best. The only thing they excelled at was charging ridiculous prices for such mediocre product and service.

I've been a loyal patron of the milling room for several years, but my recent visit was a stark contrast to the positive experiences I've had in the past. The once-bustling atmosphere was sadly absent, with the restaurant half-empty on a typically busy night. My disappointment continued with the service. The large bottle of Pellegrino I ordered arrived lukewarm. When I mentioned this to the server, he offered ice instead of a properly chilled bottle. After requesting an ice bath three times, it finally arrived after a significant delay. The most bizarre turn of events came midway through our appetizers. The staff, without a word of explanation, surrounded our table and proceeded to move our partially eaten plates to the adjacent table! Our main courses - salmon and steak - were then brought out and placed on our original table, still warm from the kitchen. Again, no communication from the wait staff. We were left in a precarious situation. We awkwardly moved our starters back and attempted to enjoy the hot entrees while our appetizers sat untouched for ten minutes. Finally, the server reappeared and inquired if we wanted the mains returned to the kitchen. When I asked if they would be reheated or remade, his answer confirmed my fears: the heat lamp. Faced with the choice of overcooked or cold food, I reluctantly agreed to keep the dishes warm. Unfortunately, as expected, the main courses arrived cold, and my steak was simply inedible. This experience marks the unfortunate end of my patronage . The significant drop in service quality and the bizarre table shuffle left me feeling disrespected and disappointed. I'm not sure what went wrong, we've been here a number of times and always had a solid experience, great food, good service, beautiful cocktails. We came to the bar and ordered drinks on the high table by the window, we did not get any service. The drinks took forever and were awful, simply disgusting. They never took our food order. We walked out of the place for the first time, we usually give places the benefit of the doubt, sometimes there're kitchen delays, sometimes things don't run smoothly but to be there for close to an hour without anyone taking our food order and then getting these awful cocktails, it was truly abysmal. Sorry milling room, not coming back.

Stunning space and interior with soaring ceilings - very rare for Manhattan! The food is also very good and thoughtfully prepared.
Be the first to ReplyWe first had a drink at the bar.
We needed to kill time because we had 7:00 reservations & our show was @9:30. The bartenders were friendly & the bar area was large. When it came time to be seated we walked through a long hallway & entered a very large & impressive atrium . The space was draped in typical sunflower yellow lighting. We were placed in the back of the restaurant against the wall which was perfect for us. The tables were so close together that at least we didn't have someone to one side. While browsing through the menu my wife realized water was dripping down onto our table. We didn't say until the 3rd or 4th drop. They moved us to a dry table & we sat right next to another couple who had the same problem. Although we didn't want to be rushed it was hard to get our waiters attention. Our meals were ok but I don't think we will be going back. The place was too loud. I'm sure it would be a nice atmosphere in the daytime as the atrium would be glowing with natural light but the night lighting could be better. The men's bathroom has a sign saying watch your step, heed the warning. As you open the door a set of stairs is right in front of you. It was a good thing our waiter wasn't quick on the drinks or I would have went head first down the six steps. Good luck.

Came here on Valentine's day with my wife, to our surprise, it was a pre-fixed menu. However, that didn't stop us from eating here. When we entered, we were greeted by the hostess, it ambiance was low-light, but gave the vibe for a romantic evening. I must note that this is a fine-dining experience. We didn't know this at the time, but be warn that you will spend a lot of money compare to a regular american restaurant. Going back to the service, we probably got served the appetizer maybe 40-50 mins after we arrived. Everything we got was good as well as the dessert. The portion was also a plus. As someone who loves to eat, I was stuffed with the pre-fix menu. I don't think you will go wrong with whatever option you choose. Overall, if you are looking for a romantic date setting or want to do a fancy dinner or lunch, I recommend this place. The food is good and the right portion, but despite this, I felt something was missing to make the food pop and make me feel like I was having a full fine dining experience. I didn't experience a dish that would drive me crazy to go back. Decors definitely get a 5/5.
Be the first to ReplyEverything about my experience here was perfect.
We had our reservation for 6:30 and that was just before they started to fill up all the rest of the tables. Even when the dining room was completely full it never felt crowded or excessively loud. Our server was fantastic as was all our food. Will absolutely be back soon.
Be the first to ReplyStopped in for a cocktail.
House made Bloody Mary. It was very flavorful. A touch spicy. Strong horseradish flavor, which I loved

Came here for our anniversary, recommended by my brother in law. This place was amazing, for the most part. The food and drinks were magical, I really enjoyed the Hemingway that I had gotten, err two. We started with the cheese plate and there was no regrets, it was great. My wife had gotten the strip steak and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I had gotten the duck breast and loved it, melted in my mouth. The Banana Sticky Toffee Pudding dessert wasn't anything special, only food failure. Loved this place over all, will definitely come again. Our waiter was really great and friendly, also very knowledgeable and his recommendations didn't disappoint. The only thing was getting our bill, took longer than we would have liked. Also the seating was pretty bad, the chairs and bench were very hard and uncomfortable. Otherwise we loved this place.

I say this with the utmost honesty and sincerity- this is the most beautiful restaurant I've ever been to. The ambiance is unmatched. Absolutely stunning. Often a nice esthetic means compromise of taste. Not true for the Milling Room. They have it all. Beauty, bang-for-your-buck, and taste! The food was Delish with a capital D. I got the almond French toast which was superb and my husband got the huevos rancheros. Delicioso. I wouldn't change a thing about our amazing experience. This is now our go-to brunch spot on the UWS.One more thing- Ali was fab. The sweetest, kindest waiter around. He should get a raise :)
Be the first to ReplyFood was fine.
Service was sub par; waitress said nothing about the menu and waited twenty minutes for the check after we finished. Bathrooms were also pretty dirty.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful and creatively designed space and ambience.
Elegant yet warm and cozy. Moses, our waiter was very attentive and charmin. We particularly enjoyed the shrimp apps and the lava cake desert. Great vegetarian options too - we had the gnocchi and also asparagus with mushroom sauce. Both excellent. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyMarvelous ambience, great food.
The beet and buratta appetizer were perfection.Risotto was nice, with a wine base, even if the clams were a tad chewy. The Brussels and pomegranate app was nice and crisp with a complex flavor profile. The Lumache with lobster and rock shrimp was one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. Molten chocolate cake was light and just sweet enough- reminiscent of a soufflé! I would pass on the pistachio crème brûlée- it was good, but not worth the calories.Overall, the meal was wonderful and the restaurant is beautiful. Definitely worth a stop on the Upper West!
Be the first to ReplyI would like to share my great customer service experience
I would like to share my great customer service experience with the milling room reservation. We were planning to have my daughter 18th birthday dinner at the milling room. When we were trying to decide either go for regular reservation in the main dining area or private room event (for about 10~12 ppl), we called the restaurant to gather the information. All the staffs are so welcoming and sweet, they are not only replying our general questions but also sorting out the more complicated scenario by forwarding us to the general manager who is also very professional and caring. He helped us easily made decision, and even called back to follow up. The whole team are efficient and professional. With such high level of customer service, the good must be great too. Our birthday dinner is coming up and we are very looking forward to it.
Be the first to ReplyI informed the server I had a dairy allergy.
We went back and forth as to what I could order. I settled on the salmon tartar and cod with curry sauce. When my meal came, I noticed my dish looked exactly the same as my dinner mate's meal (with no dietary restriction). I then asked the server if my dish had dairy. Indeed it did. By the time my revised meal arrived my dinner companions were done eating. My cod arrived with no sauce and extra cauliflower. The fish was overcooked and bland. A very disappointing experience.

This is my first birthday in New York, I chose The Milling Room, the restaurant picture looks pretty good, but the service there was really bad. My friends got there before me, i was a little late because of the traffic but I am on my way just near the door, the front desk called me multiple times saying that we need to serve y right now you need to order food right now or I will cancel your table. Come on, my friends already there, of course we will order the food, we were celebrating, they just so rude, so disappointed.

The space was beautiful- large open ceiling, perfect for covid conscious guests. The food was really good as well. Personally, I think the risotto portion was little on a smaller side for the price but the flavor was excellent. The service was good too- It took a little while for our server to get our order but our server was very good otherwise. I took one star off because I thought their dinner menu was a lot more exciting than their brunch menu. I wish the brunch menu was a bit more interesting like the dinner one. Also, women's bathroom was really out of control and needed some clean up- I do think all of these things are important for restaurant businesses. I would definitely go back sometime for dinner!

These days, many "upscale" restaurants just recycle Costco product, served on a large plate with exotic leaves and some strange sauce drizzled around the edges. Not so The Milling Room! My duck breast with parsnips and cherries was A+ and definitely not from Costco. Also excellent was my dinner partner's NY strip steak. The Milling Room features an expansive and elegant interior with a huge glass arcade-like ceiling. Spacing between patrons is significant and the noise level allows for conversation. There is also a well thought-out wine list and bar menu. We tried a South African pinotage and a Lelie van Saron 'Jade' Red syrah blend - both excellent. The bar menu has a good assortment of everything from whiskies and cocktails to amari and liqueurs. Service is attentive, but the staff is a bit overburdened. This is not the cheapest place out there, but they do deliver a quality product/experience.

I had such a great brunch experience here! We went for our anniversary before going to the American museum of natural history since it was close. The actual architecture is beautiful and classy. The food was so good! Me and my boyfriend both loved our dishes. I was also thrilled that they had a nonalcoholic cocktail on the menu (and it was delicious). The server was attentive but did not hover and talked to us about our plans that day. I'll be back next time I'm in the city!
