The Milling Room New York Reviews from The Last Year
This is the first time at the restaurant.
The food was delicious and the ambience is beautiful. Our waiter Asami was pleasant and wonderful.
Asami gave excellent service and food is delicious .
I had the duck and it was done wonderfully. The dining room is beautiful.
Ambiance - Filthy.
The group of bus boys and waiters/waitresses only clean the tables by pushing the crumbs to the floor. They don't even look at the cloth seats, which wreak od old spillage. Service - Female waitresses are better and more attentive and quicker. Food. The food is excellent, but the pairings are strictly enforced as if you aren't paying a high price for the meal. Substitutions aren't allowed even if they go get your manager. UNFAIR AND BIASED treatment. If there is anyone of brown MELANIN,okay BLACK or LATINO, the waiters get to them last. Been there 4 times with my friend and I tried to ignore it but this happened . ..Go elsewhere. Nice Matin is a better option with a similar menu but greater taste, service, ambiance, and attention.
The space is gorgeous, I'll give them that.
But it was close to sweltering during our visit, where the exposed windows made it feel even warmer inside. Brunch menu consists of various Benedicts and not enough non-egg items. My lox was really great, and the fries were hot and seasoned well. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was lovely, and I'd consider returning if the temperature is figured out.
The ambiance is classy and elegant.
Perfect for a birthday brunch! The pastry basket was AMAZING!
Disappointing.
The space is lovely. The food is mediocre and overpriced. The Mother’s Day pre-fixe did not include dessert or bread, both of which you had to pay extra for. Seriously. How stingy can you be? Been wanting to check this place out for some time. Now that I have, I won’t be going back.
We had an amazing experience at The Milling Room.
The restaurant is gorgeous! The main dining room is a large room that is bathed in light with the help from skylights. We arrive early to the UWS. Once we checked in at the host stand, we were directed toward the bar. I ordered a scotch, I'm guessing Lagavulin? I ordered it neat and it was smokey, nice starter. We took our drinks and were escorted to the main dining room. We started with a delicious cheese board. The cheese that was chosen was high end, I loved the blue cheese! The roasted beet starter was also a great choice, the beets were sweet, I could eat just this dish and be happy. I ordered the Squid Ink Linguine, another solid dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the squid ink pasta has a briny - salty note and the fish made this a treat that was fun to eat. I highly recommend The Milling Room, its a beautiful space with terrific food
Stay away
Beyond terrible. Over priced. Terrible food. Unapologetic for their mistakes. Manager was also unnecessarily rude. Avoid at all costs.
We had a really awful experience here.
Service was incredibly slow, the staff was rude and the food was average at best. The only thing they excelled at was charging ridiculous prices for such mediocre product and service.

I've been a loyal patron of the milling room for several years, but my recent visit was a stark contrast to the positive experiences I've had in the past. The once-bustling atmosphere was sadly absent, with the restaurant half-empty on a typically busy night. My disappointment continued with the service. The large bottle of Pellegrino I ordered arrived lukewarm. When I mentioned this to the server, he offered ice instead of a properly chilled bottle. After requesting an ice bath three times, it finally arrived after a significant delay. The most bizarre turn of events came midway through our appetizers. The staff, without a word of explanation, surrounded our table and proceeded to move our partially eaten plates to the adjacent table! Our main courses - salmon and steak - were then brought out and placed on our original table, still warm from the kitchen. Again, no communication from the wait staff. We were left in a precarious situation. We awkwardly moved our starters back and attempted to enjoy the hot entrees while our appetizers sat untouched for ten minutes. Finally, the server reappeared and inquired if we wanted the mains returned to the kitchen. When I asked if they would be reheated or remade, his answer confirmed my fears: the heat lamp. Faced with the choice of overcooked or cold food, I reluctantly agreed to keep the dishes warm. Unfortunately, as expected, the main courses arrived cold, and my steak was simply inedible. This experience marks the unfortunate end of my patronage . The significant drop in service quality and the bizarre table shuffle left me feeling disrespected and disappointed. I'm not sure what went wrong, we've been here a number of times and always had a solid experience, great food, good service, beautiful cocktails. We came to the bar and ordered drinks on the high table by the window, we did not get any service. The drinks took forever and were awful, simply disgusting. They never took our food order. We walked out of the place for the first time, we usually give places the benefit of the doubt, sometimes there're kitchen delays, sometimes things don't run smoothly but to be there for close to an hour without anyone taking our food order and then getting these awful cocktails, it was truly abysmal. Sorry milling room, not coming back.
The milling room
it was a very classy and neat restaurant. everyone was incredibly nice and friendly. one of the best meals i have ever eaten before. Thank you!!
Martini hour at the bar
Beautiful restaurant and bar on UWS Had read about their martini hour so decided to try It was 5pm on a Friday and it was buzzing Got two seats at the bar - our preference and enjoyed the barmen making cocktails Ordered grilled octopus with a side of kennebec potatoes to share with a glass of their happy hour white and red Delicious, great service and inexpensive - definitely recommended

Stunning space and interior with soaring ceilings - very rare for Manhattan! The food is also very good and thoughtfully prepared.
Brunch
We visited late morning the Sunday of the half Marathon and the place wasn't that busy. We all ordered from the Brunch menu and everyone really liked their food. The Eggs Norwegian and Almond French Toast looked the best to me and both got high marks. TMR Cheeseburger was really good and cooked exactly as ordered. At $144 out the door for four people prices aren't that bad.
We first had a drink at the bar.
We needed to kill time because we had 7:00 reservations & our show was @9:30. The bartenders were friendly & the bar area was large. When it came time to be seated we walked through a long hallway & entered a very large & impressive atrium . The space was draped in typical sunflower yellow lighting. We were placed in the back of the restaurant against the wall which was perfect for us. The tables were so close together that at least we didn't have someone to one side. While browsing through the menu my wife realized water was dripping down onto our table. We didn't say until the 3rd or 4th drop. They moved us to a dry table & we sat right next to another couple who had the same problem. Although we didn't want to be rushed it was hard to get our waiters attention. Our meals were ok but I don't think we will be going back. The place was too loud. I'm sure it would be a nice atmosphere in the daytime as the atrium would be glowing with natural light but the night lighting could be better. The men's bathroom has a sign saying watch your step, heed the warning. As you open the door a set of stairs is right in front of you. It was a good thing our waiter wasn't quick on the drinks or I would have went head first down the six steps. Good luck.

Came here on Valentine's day with my wife, to our surprise, it was a pre-fixed menu. However, that didn't stop us from eating here. When we entered, we were greeted by the hostess, it ambiance was low-light, but gave the vibe for a romantic evening. I must note that this is a fine-dining experience. We didn't know this at the time, but be warn that you will spend a lot of money compare to a regular american restaurant. Going back to the service, we probably got served the appetizer maybe 40-50 mins after we arrived. Everything we got was good as well as the dessert. The portion was also a plus. As someone who loves to eat, I was stuffed with the pre-fix menu. I don't think you will go wrong with whatever option you choose. Overall, if you are looking for a romantic date setting or want to do a fancy dinner or lunch, I recommend this place. The food is good and the right portion, but despite this, I felt something was missing to make the food pop and make me feel like I was having a full fine dining experience. I didn't experience a dish that would drive me crazy to go back. Decors definitely get a 5/5.
Everything about my experience here was perfect.
We had our reservation for 6:30 and that was just before they started to fill up all the rest of the tables. Even when the dining room was completely full it never felt crowded or excessively loud. Our server was fantastic as was all our food. Will absolutely be back soon.
Stopped in for a cocktail.
House made Bloody Mary. It was very flavorful. A touch spicy. Strong horseradish flavor, which I loved
Horrible. Stay away.
My wife, daughter and our son who was visiting came to your restaurant last night. My wife and I chose your restaurant as we previously have enjoyed coming in for brunch. The food was consistently good, and service consistently reliable. We came in last night for dinner and I am beyond frustrated with our experience. We eat at a LOT of restaurants, and more importantly, a lot of nicer restaurants. Jean George’s restaurants are our go-tos, and last night our bill was the equivalent of a dinner out at some of our favorite impeccable spots. For that price however, we were beyond disgusted. All of our dishes were either mediocre at best (my daughter’s pasta was rubbery, overcooked and WAY over salted), my son’s was without salt entirely, the noodles were also way overcooked—the ragu was bland, and far overpriced for how tasteless and inelegant it was. My wife and I had the chicken which was dry, in a very mediocre, over-salted jus—the quality of the chicken just not even appropriate to be served—and the cauliflower was so al dente it was crunchy. The spices seemed to just be randomly thrown on afterwards. It was just bizarre. The octopus was tasty, albeit incredibly chewy, and my wife and son’s wine were both just barely drinkable. For $300+ you should be able to feel like you had an enjoyable meal. We should’ve for that price point gone elsewhere. I’m not just disappointed, but angry that we paid money for what we received. In addition, when I attempted to write you last night, your site was down. I messaged open table where we had our reservation made, who said they didn’t know why your site was down and I may want to dispute the charge with my bank. But—I figured I’d reach out to you first to see what you would do organically, first. We love food, my wife loves to cook—we know good dining. This was not it.
Nice for NYC
The atmosphere was great. A little bit noisy, but expected on a Fri night. Some staff was extremely pro, and some were a kind of apprentice. No big complaints, despite is not the best experience to leave the food waiting for forks... The food was tasty and very well presented. Wine menu is great and lot of elegible options. We chose a 2012 reddy from US, which made us delighted. Some main courses were little bit scarced, same time than really tasty. Thus, always room to improvement, but we did enjoy the visit. Thanks Milling Room team!!
Great drinks, lousy service
Service…it was almost 15 minutes until our server took our drink order, and that much time until we got our drinks. Drinks were excellent. Food pretty good but my cod didn’t include the Chipotle aloe…it needed it. The squid ink pasta was good…nothing special.
Never Fails!
The Milling Room never fails! Wonderful food, drinks, and a fun atmosphere that is grand and unusual for New York. We were celebrating a family birthday and it was a no brainer to have it at the Milling Room. Ruth is the best and we were lucky to have her as our waitress—she made it so special and fun. Will be back!!
Mediocre
Nice atmosphere. Good service. Food just ok. Octopus was good. Strip steak very tough and grizzly. Would not return.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
