If you're looking for an upscale dining experience with
If you're looking for an upscale dining experience with delicious food, attentive service, and a view that is second to none, look no further- the Marine Room js the place for you. This was our second time here celebrating a special occasion and we will definitely be back. We noticed the food was even better than our first visit and read there is a new chef which is exciting. We will definitely be back soon.
The service is actually really bad.
.. our waiter seemed to have a complaint about everything we would say or ask. Blaming the kitchen or the bar or anyone else for his mistakes. He seemed unhappy to be there. It's crazy for a restaurant this expensive that only takes reservations to have a wait of 15 minutes past my reservation time to get a table. The food was ok but not worth returning for. The view was beautiful but for the price, everything else was super lackluster. Save your money and go to George's.
The ocean view is stunning.
We sat down around 6:30, watching the scorching sun gradually transform into an orange-pink sunset glow. Children played on the beach, surfboards whizzed by nearby, cruise ships passed by in the distance, and seagulls dotted the sky. At high tide, the water engulfed the beach. The night sky melted into the water, gently swishing against the window. It was a shame I didn't get a window table this time, but I'll definitely book one next time.
This place is always beautiful, but I highly recommend
This place is always beautiful, but I highly recommend coming at night and getting a table at the lounge, not at the dining area. They have a different menu, plus you'll get a better view of the waves if you're at the lounge. The service is amazing, there was a very classy, elegant, and professional vibe. As usual, I still get ID'ed haha!
The food was good and the service was fine.
But the management watched a baby scream for 45 min and never said anything to the parents. Ruined the whole experience. Me and my husband had looked forward to this reservation for months.
Dress code: 4 / 5 stars: The dress code of business
Dress code: 4 / 5 stars: The dress code of business casual, or higher, was NOT enforced. Contrary to the restaurant's dress code: 2 men wearing t-shirts and jeans were seated at a table near the window closest to the beach. A man wearing a t-shirt, soccer shorts, and flip-flops was seated at the bar. Seems very odd the restaurant has a dress code, but does not enforce it. Get rid of it if you don't enforce it. Valet: 5 / 5 stars Food: 5 / 5 stars Service staff: 5 / 5 stars Speed of service: 5 / 5 stars Restroom cleanliness: 5 / 5 stars Overall: 4.5 / 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Some good, some bad.
We went for the high tide dinner, but had some serious issues. When I made the reservation the hostess told me that high tide would be at 10pm so she made me a 9:30pm reservation. She also said she would put in a note for a window seat and that would give me a decent chance to get one. Upon arrival at 9:15pm, I found out that high tide was actually at 9:18pm and that 9:30 was the absolute last reservation so there was no actual chance that I would have been able to get a window seat. So we got an interior seat and no water was visible except in the rare occasion that the retreating waves splashed high enough for us to notice. Then the dinner service.... The waiter was really great. Friendly and walked us through the menu. We had a great amuse bouche (fig and cheese) and first course (peruvian crudo and korean steak tartare)... Then service went off the rails. It was late and most of the people had left, but the next course came out really slow. It was still tasty, I got the uni pasta and my wife got the bone marrow. The bone marrow was good and so was the pasta, but the uni was really non existent. It then took a really long time for the next course, so long that we asked for the dessert to go because we knew we couldn't wait for that. My sea bass was good and had a nicely fried skin, but the lobster that my wife had definitely had issues with the sauce. There was some strange aftertaste that we didn't really care for. We ate the desserts later and didn't find either of them super amazing, but I leave room for the fact that nothing is as good in take out as it is in the restaurant. Overall the restaurant is really nice and the food was decent and would have probably been better received if it wasn't higher priced due to the high tide event that we couldn't really see.
The ocean view was amazing.
Unfortunately, the meal itself failed to meet the high expectations set by the ambiance, price point, and reputation. The issues began with an excessive wait time of over 30 minutes for our main courses. When the dishes finally arrived, the quality was surprisingly low. The lamb had an off-putting, unpleasant smell, while the steak was bland, tasteless, and poorly prepared, indicating it may not a high quality meat. To add to the disappointment, the meal was not served hot as it should be, and of course I had tummy problems after. Horrible experience. 2-stars for the view.
They sell the view, poor quality food dressed up fancy, but
They sell the view, poor quality food dressed up fancy, but can't beat that view! The fish smelled fishy, the steak had no flavor, if you're expecting 5-star dining, you'll get the presentation but not the taste. Urban Plates has better quality. Go for the ocean, the experience but rating it 1-star because it's unacceptable to have food that bad at such a fine restaurant (and for the cost).
My girlfriend and I went here for our one year anniversary
My girlfriend and I went here for our one year anniversary and it was absolutely visually stunning. From the way you are greeted when you walk in to the final plate on your table everything is beautiful. We got 2 appetizers, 2 sides, and one shareable main course. The appetizers were honestly my favorite part, the bluefin sashimi was the most beautifully plated dish I've ever seen and the taste matched the look. It was extremely fresh and the sauce they paired it with made for a burst of flavors that worked extremely well with each other. The crispy boba that accompanied was something I never thought I'd try but I really enjoyed the crunchy texture as well as the 2 types of caviar it was topped with Overall it was a 8.6/10. Next we had the Thai soup and I consider myself something of a Thai connoisseur so I'm extremely harsh when it comes to reviewing Thai foods, but this blew my mind away it was creamy and acidic yet still remained light and kept me wanting more. It was paired with lobster which was something fresh and sweet then tied perfectly down by the soup. This dish was the best thing here hands down 9.1/10. The surf and turf was cooked to perfection and it was enjoyable however I didn't really feel like it compared to our first dishes which were more complex taste and appearance wise this was a 7.8/10. Overall I would rate the marine room 8.2/10 The free dessert for our anniversary was a very special touch and our server was amazing. I believe it is worth the money for the experience and food and I'm sure I'll be back sometime later.

What a view!!! We were lucky enough to see the sunset and then stay into the night at this place. So romantic. We had steak and lobster tail. They gave us a complimentary chocolate.
My absolute favorite restaurant ever and a must visit
My absolute favorite restaurant ever and a must visit everytime I'm in the area! The customer service is beyond compare & the food has the freshest quality ever. I love sitting next to the windows and watching the waves hit the glass, I really recommend it!

My boyfriend surprised me with a reservation for our anniversary and we could not be more impressed. The atmosphere and the oceans views are even better than the pictures. We saw lots of snorkelers, dogs on the beach, and even a sea lion that hung around for the majority of our night. Our server Liz went above and beyond to make sure our night was perfect. Her recommendations accompanied by the chefs talent and generosity made for our favorite meal in San Diego. This menu is upscale and we were genuinely impressed with the chefs creative flare to every dish we ordered. Thank you for celebrating us in the most special way!
Super elegant very fancy place food is amazing.
I'm surprised this place is not a Michelin rated please people go during the high tide. It is super cool to see.... My only issue is the place is too expensive.
Cool place, took my girlfriend here she loved the location.
Just wish we were able to catch the shrimp scampi on the menu
A truly stunning restaurant with wonderful service.
The mezcal passion fruit drink was great. The food to me was a bit disappointing. For the price of the dishes I feel like there should be more flavor. I got the Salmon and while it was well cooked, I expected more flavor from how the waiters were talking about the food. The carrots in the dish were amazing though. The Peruvian Tuna Crudo was similar. I expected the sauce to have more flavor. The tuna itself was very high quality. The bread however was incredible.
Made a reservation one week ago for Easter Sunday brunch
Made a reservation one week ago for Easter Sunday brunch obviously we wanted to be right by the windows looking at the beautiful view the restaurant was half empty and of all the seats they sat us at the very back in a cold dark corner right next to the loud kitchen we barely had a view of the ocean. Cannot understand the rationale of this everyone else was at the windows and there were empty seats luckily they moved us when I complained. The appetizer was waffles and pork it was lukewarm and the waffles were flat and hard and chewy as if they had been made first thing in the morning and just reheated can't take that long to make a fresh waffle the pork was all fat and chewy as well my boyfriend's Coke had a floatie in it and had to return it luckily they covered one of our meals. The food and service is mediocre at best all you're paying for is the view will not return.

Perched right on the beach, this restaurant offers breathtaking ocean views. The ambiance strikes a balance between professional sophistication and warm hospitality. Our waitress, Liz, was great, nailing every aspect of our experience. The cocktails were a refreshing prelude to our meal, both in taste and presentation. While the food was competently prepared and enjoyable, it didn't quite leap into the realm of culinary marvels. The dishes are good, certainly, but they stop short of being amazing. In essence, the restaurant delivers a solid dining experience with standout service and a view to die for, even if the cuisine doesn't always steal the spotlight.

Would give a 4 1/2 if half stars were an option.
Went here for an anniversary dinner and had a nice experience. The food was very good - particularly the appetizers and sides. Tuna Crudo was amazing! But the main courses, including the add on lobster tail were just okay. Service was great. We weren't right by the windows, but one row of tables back and still had a great view.
A beautiful setting with almost laughably pretentious
A beautiful setting with almost laughably pretentious atmosphere. I live in nyc and Palm Springs so I'm not unused to 'fine dining' but this was over the top. My companion had a sea food dish that was quite well presented and tasty. I ordered soup, risotto and mostly vegetable main. The soup was quite good but the risotto was incredibly salty. The first forkful was salty but I thought that was from the coarse salt sprinkled across the top so I tried another forkful. It was so salty as to turn my stomach. I put the risotto aside and tried the main vegetable dish but all I could taste was the salt from the risotto. I didn't want to make a fuss in front of my companion but left the food essentially untouched. As I paid the check I told the waiter about the inedible food and he made a sad face but didn't offer to correct the bill. The server in a good restaurant would have reported that I left my food and the senior staff would have inquired. So I feel quite justified in saying that the Marine Rom is quite lovely in a beautiful setting fails in real consideration for the guests.
Not the same as it used to be
We went there for my husbandโs birthday. It was a Wednesday evening and they were busy. Although we had reservations, we still waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Service was good, not great like it used to be there. Food was very good. It just didnโt seem like the same restaurant that we used to go to. The wait staff, food and ambience used to be perfection and now itโs good but nothing like it used to be. People used to dress up but not anymore from what we saw. We requested a window seat, but did not get one. They sat us in the back and we never saw the ocean at all! You couldnโt even tell we were at the beach. It was a bit disappointing.

It is right on the water that's absolutely beautiful to look at. Food was good.

Restaurants by the water tend to be overrated, tasteless, and not worth the visit, but the marine room truly delivers an amazing experience and definitely worth the visit. From the warm welcome to the best service followed by unforgettable delicious food. You really can't go wrong. Did I mention they have the best views and experience of the Pacific Ocean in San Diego? The Marine Room is regularly open from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday but will open its doors on select dates for these High Tide Events to accommodate additional guests who want to witness the incredible power and majesty of Mother Nature. Cheers

Love it
Love this spot! The views are incredible and awesome for a date or couples night. Food is very solid as well! They also have valet parking which is nice.

Great service, amazing ambience, and beautiful views! Great for special occasions with family & friends.
The sunset is where it's at.
That's why we went. Besides that, the food and service are way overrated. The men's bathroom was in need of serious attention--urine all over the floor and the stench permeated the place. Recommend not trying the Waygu Old Fashioned. It was gross. Tasted like a greasy, beef infused Old Fashioned. $35 was a bit too much for this concoction. Waitress said "the chef likes to use everything, and believes in not wasting anything." Agreed. Just don't put it in the cocktails. Portions were microscopic for the price. Towards the end of our visit, they started to allow the riff-raff in -- despite the dress code. Athletic wear, baseball hats and shorts. Some family thought it would be a grand idea to drag all their kids in. Teens yammering on FaceTime, then listening to TikTok videos without earbuds. Toddlers running amuck. Yeah. They spoiled it. Again. Way overpriced and overrated.
A beautiful setting.
However, seating is very uncomfortable as you can not sit close to the table due to the center of the table support. Staff was a bit too much - Somewhat condescending. Food is nothing special compared to our local cuisine here in San Diego. Look at your final bill as the charges are not the same as the online prices. Numerous calls were made to the manager to get clarification and there was never a return call.Poor customer service indeed! I would not recommend.

We loved our time here! My boyfriend and I came here for my birthday dinner. We made a reservation on OpenTable and it was very easy to do. When we came in we were seated right away and the hostess was very welcoming. The waiters and food runners all came by and wished me a happy birthday which was very nice. The food was fantastic. We ordered a few things we normally wouldn't eat and everything was incredible. The views were also beautiful. We got there around 5:30pm and it was the perfect time to go and watch the sunset. Overall, highly recommend especially if you are celebrating something!

The appetizers were surprisingly very delicious and the view was breathtaking walking in and while dining. The service was superb. I enjoyed my evening here.
Great food, exceptional service, amazing night.
Absolutely fantastic night, well worth the money. The food was superb and the service was nothing short of exceptional. Of course the location canโt be beat, being right in the beach at the waterโs edge. Parking could be a little problematic, especially during the summer, if you donโt use the valet. We will absolutely go there again!
Extremely Underwhelming ๐
Extremely underwhelming! The food was good, but overpriced and inconsistent. 4 of us ordered the same dish, however each pork chop was a different size and not cooked evenly. Mine was perfect, my daughterโs was under, my husbandโs was over. On top of that, the service was not the best. The server didnโt know the menu or how open or pour a bottle of wine, nor did she take away our amuse bouche plates until after we finished our apps, and that was only after we piled them along the side of the table. As a matter of fact, there was a dirty side plate on the window sill next to us. As we were the fist seating, this tells me it must have been there overnight. Furthermore, when offering a 4-course meal, the amuse bouche shouldnโt be counted. Itโs normally an extra surprise specialty from the chef. Meanwhile, we added an assortment of caviar to our order, only to receive the accouterments on a platter, without serving utensils. We asked for them, but they never came, so we used some of our soiled silverware from the amuse bouche. The view was spectacular, but didnโt make up for the service and price, especially when compared to Matsu in Oceanside, or Providence in LA. I donโt think Iโll be going back. Iโve decided to lower my rating to 2. Now, more than 10 days after the my less than favorable experience and I still have yet to receive any response. I suppose this is further confirmation of their poor service.
Phenomenal experience for our anniversary!
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here since we had our wedding reception a year ago at the Marine Room. It was an AMAZING experience! Dominic was the most professional and best waiter we have ever had. Period. And we have been to many restaurants. We felt so special! In regards to food, I would recommend the surf and turf and the branzino. But everything here is excellent!
Noisy experience
The food is good to very good. The bar area, which we were right next to, was quite noisy and unruly. This is most definitely a place to return to when they have a quiet night or when they offer a different seating.
Sadly disappointed after 42 years.
This has always been expensive, but it used to have extraordinary food. Prices have skyrocketed and the food was disappointing - sides that came on entree were inedible. Menu has shrunk and they encourage you to "build your own feast" from several small dishes which are very expensive. Valet parking requires $16 and he asks for a tip. We've come here 11 times in 42 years - every time we visit San Diego. I'm afraid this was our last. No longer worth the view.
Do your research before booking. You may be in for a surprise. Service & food are not worth the price, only the view
This place came to me highly recommended by its iconic view. I made a reservation for 4 well in advance. It was even stated that there is a $25 dlls per person cancelation fee. I received a call the morning of our appointment to confirm our assistance. Not only did I confirmed, but also asked if it could be moved to 7:45 pm instead of 8:00. We arrive sharp at 7:45. Note that self parking is extremely challenging but the restaurant offers valet parking. To our surprised, we arrived to a lobby full of people. I was told that they had an issue with their reservation system and overbooked people (even though they called to confirm that morning and nothing was said about overbooking). We had to wait for 45 minutes to get a table. We were not even offered a complimentary drink, which would have been expected from such delay. We were given a table way in the back even though they had 2 tables with the ocean view which were being cleaned. I would've guess that after waiting 45 minutes and given the fact that they had no one else waiting after us, the minimum expectation after such a long wait would have been to offer a good table. I ended up paying $485 dlls for dinner that was not worth the cost. If you don't have a table with a view, there is nothing special on the menu. To top it off, they completely changed my wife's vegetarian menu with out asking. She was told that they had ran out of the food she had ordered and that the chef just changed the menu. It was not bad, but again, on such an over priced restaurant, the service expectations are higher than a McDonalds or any other fast food restaurant. They should have asked if the change in menu was ok with her. In my case I had a fried fish, was good, with a lot more garlic than expected and the couple we invited had a Tomahawk steak. For $485 plus tip, is a restaurant that I am never coming back nor invite business associates. There are far better menu choices in San Diego, specially at this price point. Just to name a few, Pueto La Boca in Little italy, Cuccina Urbana, Mr. A's, Javier's, etc.
Overrated
Beautiful views, but thatโs it! Overrated, it has great views but thatโs it. The food is like eating wedding food, & the prices are outrageous. For a so so meal I would not recommend this place ever!!! Donโt waste your $
The waves at the glass are a treat but the blaring club
The waves at the glass are a treat but the blaring club music, (I can't even call it music-- it's a percussion beat,) is in direct contrast to what this restaurant wants to be: a romantic, upscale evening retreat and a seaside fantasy. Methinks the LJBTC management and chef need to think through the ambience they are attempting to create, because now it's just a jumbled juxtaposition of way-too-electronica-club noise with romantic waves and old-schoolnineteen-fifties decor. Maybe go take a look at Pa for comparison and to imagine the possibilities... The service? Slow and way too familiar. And, by the way, the food? Neither imaginative nor exceptional. Only the waves could bring us back.
This is my first time coming to The Marine Room.
The ocean view is breathtaking, the service is outstanding and the food is absolutely delicious. They had many vegetarian and pescatarian options for me so that was also a plus!

Amazing food, service and view of the Dolphins putting on a show! My husbands goal of visiting California was to try Blue fin and he was impressed!
Terrible service.
It was our anniversary, there were tables by the window and they refused to seat us there. It's pitch black so can't see waves from anywhere but the windows. Don't waste your time coming. If there's seats open at the window, they potentially won't sit you anyway and you won't be able to see ANYTHING. For the cost of the food just seeing darkness outside is not worth it. Was looking forward to this so much, book weeks in advance and the hostesses just refused to sit us by a window. So disappointing, terrible service, don't recommend getting ready for a big day just for the same to happen to you.
10/10 on everything.
Service is great, food is great, the view! Incredible. Definitely on the pricier side but well worth it. You pay for what you get basically.
Food and cocktails were great, service was awful.
Not worth the price. Obviously the view is gorgeous and the restaurant has an upscale/fancy feel but anything upscale about it stops after the bar. Came here as a group of 6 for a dinner on Sunday night, we got there a bit early to grab a drink before dinner and sit in the lounge - the hosts and bartender were extremely on top of it. We ordered everything at once (wine, apps, main), it took an hour to get the apps, another 45 to get the mains and then another 45 to get espresso and dessert. We were one of only 10 tables in the place. It's not worth the hype or money. Only come here for drinks and a pic.

I've been all over the world and eaten at hundreds of fine dining establishments. The Marine Room quite possibly claims the #1 spot. Impeccable service from start to finish. Their sommelier, Jonathan, was wonderful to us and provided perfect recommendations. The food was amazing. We had the caviar trio, wagyu, and lobster, all of which I'm already craving again the next day. The views and ambiance are also the best I've ever seen. 1000% will be back every time we're passing through SD.
5 stars all around.
I heard about this establishment through an Instagram account I follow, and told my husband about how I'd love to go one day. He surprised me with reservations for our anniversary! All bragging aside, the service was great, food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect. Will definitely be coming here in the future, and would highly recommend everyone come here at least once.
I recently dined at the Marine Room, a fine-dining
I recently dined at the Marine Room, a fine-dining restaurant that specializes in seafood and steak. While the food was delicious, my experience was greatly diminished by the poor service provided by our waiter, Roberto.Roberto was inattentive and forgetful, making us wait far too long for basic things like water. I had to remind him five times to bring us water, and even then he forgot. It wasn't until I flagged down the busboy that we finally received water. In addition, we sat down at 7:30 and didn't receive our entrees until 9:30, which was an extremely long time to wait, considering the restaurant wasn't overly busy that night. This was disappointing, especially since we had hoped for a leisurely but not lengthy dinner. To make matters worse, Roberto forgot to bring out a birthday dessert for my friend, which I had to remind him about when he brought out our other desserts. It's disappointing that such a high-end restaurant failed to provide basic service like keeping track of special occasions. On the bright side, the food was excellent. We ordered the sea bass and surf and turf, and both dishes were cooked to perfection. The seafood was fresh and flavorful, while the steak was tender and juicy.Overall, while the food was great, the service and long wait for our food at the Marine Room left a lot to be desired. Hopefully, the restaurant will take steps to improve its service going forward so that other diners can enjoy the full experience of dining at a fine-dining establishment.

We were greeted with a smile & were seated right away.Table: Elegant.View: SPECTACULAR and romantic ocean view.Servers: Fantastic.Food: DELICIOUS!!!
