Beautiful meal & setting, but mediocre service
Firstly, the views are absolutely stunning, as was the food. We couldn’t fault the setting or our meal itself. The only thing we have to mark down for is that initially the staff could not have been more attentive and helpful; frequently refilling our wine, chatting with us etc, which you’d expect when paying what we did for a 3 course meal here. After we had finished our starter, the staff became less attentive. We waited a long time between courses, and had to top up our own wine. We also had to ask them for the desert menu. We felt as though when another family arrived, who were maybe paying more than us became the priority. We would have understood the lack of service had the place been busy, but we were one of only four tables at any one time. This service towards the end of our meal really did change our opinion on the place, as they like to remind people they are exclusive/private, so their service should reflect this.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Restaurant and Views
My husband and I dined at the Grotto to celebrate his 40th birthday. The food was excellent and views at sunset are unmatched. This restaurant is located in the Rayavadee Resort which is a 5 star property. As expected, the prices and quality of drinks and food within the restaurant match. For people who are upset they cannot come in off the beach and have drinks at the Grotto, I would encourage you to book a room at this amazing hotel and then come for lunch or dinner. If the hotel allowed all the random beach goers into the restaurant, it would be absolute mayhem. It is a small place with only 7 barstools and perhaps 15 tables. I very much appreciate the hotel keeping the Grotto exclusively for their guests.
Be the first to ReplyNot great - way below expectations
Food is not good. Service is mediocre. We had way more expectations on the restaurant and the hotel as well. A bit disappointed. Would recommend to eat somewhere else !
Be the first to ReplyLunch with a view from a CAVE
Fantastic lunch in jaw-dropping setting. We had two salads and two entrees. For those complaining about the prices, you are at a 5-star luxury resort that requires planes, vans, and a boat to get here. So, the food has to be shipped in, too. Maybe cut them some slack on prices or stay at the budget hotels in Railey Beach.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn’t recommend
The staff were helpful, so this isn’t aimed at them. We booked for my 30th birthday after seeing videos of it on TikTok we had to get a boat to the island to get it (so wouldn’t recommend unless you’re already on the island as we struggled to get a boat back). We requested a good view and paid months in advance, we got told to sit anywhere but the only spaces were behind people next to a plant pot and away from the sunset. Food was nice but overall overpriced. Wouldn’t recommend going we went to loads of other sunset bars for a lot more reasonable prices and with better views.
Be the first to ReplyNot expect this quality in a 5-star resort
The food is not good, not too many choices. Although the surroundings are beautiful, the arrangement in the restaurant is messy. Staff is friendly but not enthusiastic. We were not served napkins, despite requests. The price is more expensive than the quality.

Did go for a late lunch, but it was not worth it at all… expensive for just ok food and bad service. Even if we did book they did question us and if we did have a table.
Be the first to ReplyThe Emperor's New Clothes
Normally I feel guilty when writing a bad review because most staff try to please, and that is the case this time. However! 7,500 thb/£185 gbp for two for an average meal except for wagyu beef that was appalling. More expensive than 1 and 2 Michelen star restaurants in London. The bill did not include wine which started at 2,100 thb + VAT + service/£60 a bottle or 600++ baht/£17 a glass. I know the Rayavadee is a premium resort, but those prices are silly. The beef was full of gristle and the fat wasn't rendered - half of it was not edible. Was it real wagyu beef? It was not melt in the mouth marbled beef that I have had before. The rest of the food was mediocre (tuna tataki - dry/summer salad - mainly lettuce leaves with, seriously, two beans, no seeds, one very finely cut slice of red pepper and two small pieces of avocado), average (Szechuan aubergine), ok (asparagus tempura/smoked aubergine); the cheeses and cooked meats could have been brought from a supermarket - surely something more imaginative could have been provided. The table next to us were not happy with their lobster, but didn't say anything to the staff although they cancelled their booking for the next evening. We had to order our 3 courses 24 hours in advance which is daft - any half competent restaurant can cope with orders on the night. And we didn't really want 3 courses but we had no choice. A straightforward a la carte steak/shellfish menu would be so much better. The staff were pleasant but the service is not as good as the rest of the resort - we had to ask repeatedly for items we had ordered and the bill for drinks we had at lunchtime was wrong. The other two restaurants on site are expensive as well but at least the food, especially at Krua Phra Nang, is excellent. The staff are really nice and obliging, these comments are aimed at the management of the restaurant and the resort. PS The actual experience didn't match the photos we took which look great. The seats were uncomfortable and we were looking out to darkness with our backs to the cave. It's a shame we had to endure such poor/average food, sloppy service and pay so much to get the photos. PPS the resort is fantastic and we had a great time. We will return - but not to the Grotto.
Be the first to ReplyThoroughly enjoyed!!
Decadent and memorable is how I would describe this place! Loved it!! This restaurant is amazing. You have to be a hotel guest, but this is the place to celebrate and enjoy this amazing view with a feast. Where else can you be on the beach/in a cave. The food matches the atmosphere. Treat yourself!!! Excellent service too.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service excellent but not particularly good value.
Staying at Rayavadee dinner at the grotto is a must. We stayed here in April and just came back for a return visit to beautiful Railay You have to preorder and book a table and because of jetlag we ate very late (9pm). It was raining but our table was sheltered under the rocks. We were the only people eating there so it was a true private dining experience, with the background of thunder and lightning. The portions were large and service was excellent as usual and the staff recognised us from our previous visit. This is not a cheap place; you'll be paying the same as you would for a good restaurant in London or Paris. With preordering taking some of the spontaneity away allied with the price it was a bit disappointing and we don't think it deserves full marks anymore.
Be the first to ReplyBad management . You have to be in-house guest to dine in.
Very bad experience . Policy and service very bad Avoid this place You must be in-house guest to dine in this place . Why ? You think outside guest can’t afford to pay your food ? I been in around the word is first time that I saw this . We had better food in Ritz-C krabi
Be the first to ReplyStunning!
The fascinating place in Krabi! One of thousand places to visit before you die! มากระบี่ต้องลองมาทานอาหารที่ The Grotto ค่ะ วิวที่เห็นโดยเฉพาะช่วงพระอาทิตย์ตกสวยมากจริงๆ
Be the first to ReplyThe policy for this restaurant is ridiculous
Coming all the way from Canada to have a dining experience at this restaurant and then to be told we cannot because we are not staying at the hotel ..
The entire city is hurting for money as there are very few tourists here . The restaurant says they are not full and have lots of empty tables but are tied to the hotels policy .
They asked me to call the hotel and see is they can give special permission for us to attend for dinner which I did ... even though the hotel is not full and the restaurant is the same the male who answered the phone said he is staying with company policy and will not allow outside guests to dine at the restaurant
If I was the owner of this hotel and new my employees were not allowing outside guests to fill the empty tables I would terminate the mgmt team .
This is a business there to profit and in desperate times when the entire city is hurting painfully from next to no tourism and your restaurant is not full you have to question management policy ...no customers filling the tables all the time means a loss of profits to the owner
If you are the owner I suggest maybe you should have a meaningful talk with your mgnt team as to why you are turning away business and you probably do not realize your customer service employees are doing this
Worth the Experience!
We were disappointed this restaurant was full for Christmas dinner. However, we were just as pleased with coming here for lunch. Despite the hot weather had a perfect seat in the shade overlooking Ko Rang Nok island. The place was literally empty for lunch which made it that much more of an experience. But I was equally impressed with the meal itself.. I had the Greek salad w/ seared tuna and vegetarian pasta while my wife had the watermelon salad with goat cheese. All items were incredible and reasonably priced. We loved the experience and would welcome a return here for dinner in the future.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the trip just for the view!
Contrary to what it reads under this listing, this restaurant is not in Krabi Town but is one of the beach restaurant at the Rayavadee Resort Krabi. You can't miss it when you walk Phrang Nah beach. Whilst the setting is unique, we found the food and service equally good. My wife ordered the Pan Bagnat and I ordered the Chorizo-stuffed Squids. Both dishes were excellent! A must go when on Railay beach.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous location and that
Fabulous location and that is what you pay for. Saying that the food was pretty good and went down well with a bottle of rosé. You would be hard pressed to find any restaurant with a unique view. If you can’t afford it, bring your own sandwiches and still enjoy the view.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent atmosphere, worst food
It is very nice for taking good photoes with your lover, but it is a horrible for eating experience. Seafood is totally not fresh. It is better to eat outside if you are looking for good food. 2 point for excellent view and zero point for food.
Be the first to ReplyA total rip-off. Extremely overpriced and horrible service.
We were a table of 10 people, went there by prior booking. When we arrived the staffs barely interacted with us they just came to the table and gave us the menus. We looked at the menu ls and were in shock. 150 baht for a can of coke?? The staffs were so unhelpful when we needed to ask them questions. Overall just very bad customer service. However, that’s not the worst part about this place. We got charged for something we did not order. We never ordered water from them but they kept pouring it for us non-stop without even asking, so we assumed that it was complementary. When the bill came out it was 660 baht for water (220 each)!!! 3 big bottles of Mineré water that we NEVER ORDERED. It’s outrageous. I mean i understand that 5 and above stars resorts on private properties can be pricey but come on... this was honestly just unacceptable. Do not go to this place ever guys I cannot stress it enough. It’s not worth it at all. Beyond unacceptable really. Never before in my life have i ever seen such thing.
Be the first to ReplyToo over price, poor service quality
To be honest, at first I was amazed by the view and the surrounding, however I found that the price for the food and drink was overrated and the service wasn’t even good. When we first arrived the waitress did not care to ask whether or not we wanted drinking water but she just invited herself to pour it in our cups. Not knowing that the price is 220 per bottle, the waitress continues to give us three more. When the bill came, we were in shock that the water alone is 600 baht.
Be the first to ReplyOutrageously overpriced, service was a joke.
With a heavy heart, my friends and I came to Krabi for an unforgettable experience as it was a first timer for all of us. Unforgettable it was. Firstly, the prices were terribly overpriced, 660 baht for 3 large bottles of water! The waitress did NOT even bother to ask us whether we wanted more water and she just gave us more and more as if the water was a refill. Outrageous. Coming from the service industry myself from a 5 star luxury hotel in Bangkok, I would not give this place even 1 star. Human development is extremely important, train your employees, please.
