This review is for dinner.
Came here on a Friday evening for an early Valentine's Day celebration. It's pricey and a bit old school (think, 70 year old white men - we were one of the youngest diners), but overall I enjoyed my meal and would recommend. I think it's a good option for a celebration (birthday, anniversary, etc.) Ambiance / Service: has slightly "Mad Men" vibes - waiters in bow ties, dark wood etc. Some of the decor feels a bit outdated, but overall it's more traditional/ fancy. I would definitely recommend dressing up for dinner. It's pretty lively too - we left around 10pm and it was still packed. Service was good, but slow. Food: we ordered too much and split the below amongst two. Overall all the food was really good. Quite pricey for some of what you get, but that's to be expected. -50g Caviar: yummmm. Comes tons of sides (crรจme fraise, chives, onion, boiled egg, tiny hashbrowns, blinis, and mini toasts). -3 oz Crab Leg: this was a special. Meat is already taken out for you. Comes with 3 sauces. It was good, but not worth $95. Hard to picture what 3 ounces of crab would be like, but it was TINY, especially to share. -Pasta a la Presse: get this, even just for the experience. They partially make table side with a crazy contraption that looks like it's from the early 1900's. Hard to describe the flavor - very rich, has a smokiness to it almost like BBQ. Perfect size to split between 2. -The Seagram Crab Cake: loved. Thin crispy potato topper was so good. Probably would need 2 if sharing with 4 people. -Ribeye: cooked and seasoned perfectly. Love the roasted garlic that comes with it. -Honey Mustard Duckling: cooked perfectly. The skin is delicious. Honestly was one too many dishes we ordered though. -Hashbrown o Brien: good side dish. -Caramel Apple Stack: not too sweet. Very dense and moist. Almost has a pound cake consistency. It was decent, but didn't blow me away. Not sure I'd order again.

Epic! The only word I can think of to describe this dining experience. Food, service and ambiance all combined for a "great Gatsby" experience. Jessica treated us like VIPs. Ulysses was an excellent waiter and made my birthday celebration memorable. Libby the sommelier was in point with the pairings. Thanks you!!!!!

The Grill somehow manages to thread the needle of "fancy," "theatrical," and still "relaxed." The ambience is refined, the service is exceptional, and, despite being served by people in tuxedos and seeing your food being presented in a trolley with a silver dome, you still feel relaxed and able to enjoy the meal. And the food is delicious. We shared: tuna ravigote (refreshing, light), pasta a la presse (the definition of "theatrical," and also very rich in flavor), honey mustard duckling (crispy skin, tender meat, mustard sauce with a delightful kick to it), and the prime rib (amazing texture and flavor). For dessert, I recommend the lemon chiffon and the cruller. Drinks are strong. Highly recommend for a special dinner; it's an experience you won't forget.
Be the first to ReplyThe Best! My favorite restaurant on planet earth right now.
Service Ambiance Food Cocktails. A+ Rare 5 star review
Be the first to ReplyHad a beautiful experience with impeccable service.
While all the main dishes were delicious, the sides were a bit on the dry side.
Be the first to ReplyI love everything about The Grill.
The food is exceptional, ambiance and service. Top 3 favorite consistent restaurant in NYC

To be in the historic Seagram building, in the architecturally preserved former Four Seasons restaurant ( now@thegrillny), viewing the legendary bar & its epic chandelier, is, to quote Ferris Bueller, so choice ( chef's kiss). What a beautiful venue. Foods? Don't remember much about it though.

5/5! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something more on the upscale fine dining. The service, ambiance, interior was amazing. The staff were super helpful and friendly. On top of everything else the food was delicious and amazing. Everything I ordered was top notch. I highly recommend getting the duck ! It was super tender and juicy. The tuna was very fresh and the sauce went very well with it. They had a white truffle pasta special and it was to die for!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely spectacular, every time I've been.
The prime rib is always spectacular and a must-have item. My most recent trip I also had the scallop snail fricasee, the pasta, the honey mustard duckling, and the hunter style mushrooms (which is easily the best way to get the mushrooms). All were amazing. Service was top-notch. I mentioned we were splitting everything when we ordered and without us even asking they split every dish (that could be) into two plates. If you're looking at this place to be "new and different" any time you go, it won't be. The menu has been more-or-less the same since I first went 6 years ago, which is spectacular but rarely anything new. I also think that my better meals have been with smaller parties, and that it's been significantly less enjoyable with anything more than 4 people.

The Grill has beautiful interiors and stellar service, simply making it a top choice for a very special occasion. On the food end, I wasn't particularly blown away especially considering the price but everything was definitely of top quality.
Be the first to ReplyVery upscale spot in midtown.
Definitely more corporate business vibes. Great for hosting people from out of town. The service was excellent and on another level. Food was also very good. They have lunch specials that are appetizing but not too much where you want to fall asleep right after. It's refreshing to see that places like this still exist!
Be the first to ReplyQuintessential classy old school Manhattan vibes all around
Quintessential classy old school Manhattan vibes all around here from the bar to the dining room to the professional and courteous staff. A must visit for out of towners and New Yorkers tired of sitting next to t-shirt wearing tourists at the other chain spots in town. Formerly the Four Seasons restaurant and situated in the iconic Seagram Building. That's right, so break out your tailored jacket from Hong Kong and have your lady wear that little black dress so you can party the way you should in NYC. Grab a cocktail at the bar before sitting down to a real NYC experience... PS pre-order your baked Alaska as I hear they run out and for those oenophiles, you'll be a kid in a candy store... carpe diem!!
Be the first to ReplyI was pleasantly surprised by our experience at The Grill.
Book for a special occasion. The space is elegant and beautiful, with a cozy and modern aesthetic. The food is crazy expensive but is well executed and portions are large. We came for the prime rib, which did not disappoint. The prime rib was thick cut, soft/tender, and flavorful -- loved the jus. The service has a theatrical element, which is rare to find nowadays. For example, the salad is prepared and tossed table-side as was the prime rib cut and dressed. We also enjoyed the Baked Alaska.
Be the first to ReplyHeavy finance/corporate vibes, but surprisingly solid.
Excellent martini, professional staff, and upscale. It's filled with individuals in suits in business meetings, but in reality, they're having a great time. Our martini was strong and well done with a twist. Albeit expensive, it packed a major punch.Clean, upscale, and quite a nice spot. Happy to visit again.
Be the first to ReplyOverall we had a fine time at The Grill.
The space is absolutely gorgeous, and the tables are large and private which for me is the best aspect of all about eating here, it costs a premium but it's worth it.We started with a cocktail at the bar. I can't say our bartender was great since he barely paid any attention to our order, but the Martini was fine. Should be for $25. When we moved to our table, we were so pleased to see that we had a semicircular booth dead center - great people watching! We started with the omelette made tableside, and I was surprised that they did a "country style" and not a "French style" omelette. It was good but I much prefer French omelettes so wouldn't order again. Then came the steak tartare, and it was one of the best we've had in many years. Served with ultra-crisp lettuce leaves, I must say I preferred it to my usual baguette because it was lighter and let the flavor of the meat really shine. We loved it. Then on to the prime rib - of course it was excellent, but it's a lot of meat. Half of mine came home. Sides were whipped potatoes and the best mushrooms with a brandy-cream sauce I've ever eaten, they were fantastic! How could they have been out of baked Alaska? But they were, so we settled for a slice of lemon chiffon cake. It was very delicious but, ultimately, it was a slice of very very good cake. Next time I'll put the order in for the Baked Alaska at the start of our meal.Service was competent, unfussy, and friendly. The space, again, is gorgeous. The food was very good indeed. Including a $65 bottle of wine, the total was nearly $600. That's a lot of money, but I don't have any regrets at all. It was a truly New York luxury experience, one to be enjoyed for special occasions, as this one was. Can't wait to go back and try other delicacies at this gorgeous place!
Be the first to ReplyA genuine 5 star experience with amazing service.
The menu is pricey but it's worth the visit. Filet mignon was cooked beautiful and the pot pie was one of the best I've ever tried.
Be the first to ReplyI was a bit apprehensive about going as I thought The Four
I was a bit apprehensive about going as I thought The Four Seasons was the classiest restaurant in the city. Inevitably change would only make it worse. Sequels are never good, right? Well i was pleasantly surprised to see the Grill has maintained the quality, service and classy atmosphere of The Four Seasons with a more modern flare. I went there with family to celebrate some birthdays and it was a special dining experience. We ordered salads, the pasta a la presse, crab cake and omelette for appetizers. All were excellent, esp the pasta, with the sauce cooked from duck in a grinder right next to us as was the omelette. For main courses, I had the Venison as it is not something I often have and many restaurants do not have it. Here it was also cooked to perfection and with walnuts and huckleberries to balance out the flavor. We finished it off with the apple stack and chocolate cake. I also had a Rob Roy to drink to wash everything down. We got some pictures by the Andy Warhol paintings (btw, we identified Willy Brandt, Happy Rockefeller, Jerry Hall and Farah Pahlavi )in the corner to the right when you walk in (and Nelson Rockefeller on opposite end). If anyone knows who the painting next to the Happy Rockefeller Portrait was (see my picture) please let me know. But anyway, I also walked over to the pool room where I had been for some power lunches a few years back. The trees are gone but it has a more modern look and the pool is as bright as ever. In short, this was a special dining experience I will not soon forget.
Be the first to ReplyI can't even get through to make a reservation.
Shame on them. And can't post my comment either.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, had an anniversary and it was impeccable.
I've never had such amazing food. Very friendly there. It was alittle scary because it seemed so fancy and where I come from we don't have restaurants like that but the waiter helped us through all of it. In the end it was a good price for good food and I enjoyed. Also I hate sparking water but theirs was a literal chefs kiss. Also good portion food, it was hard to find a place in NYC that had excellent food that wasn't the size of a pea but this place really was outstanding and beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyThe Grill is my favorite restaurant in NYC.
The high ceilings, the metal rods hanging over the bar and the bartenders' classic white attire transport me to a great Gatsby era. Drinks: reliable and classic. Nothing memorable but definitely not disappointing. I wish they had cheese olives for the martinis but I guess the plain olives give a cleaner, classy look. Wine: extensive wine list with a range from affordable to extravagant wines. As someone who has a little more than basic wine knowledge and having some cult wines at home, I am always looking for reasonable prices. At the Grill, you can find a good Rhone with a price tag that doesn't make you feel like an idiot. Food: everything is carefully prepared and executed. Salads and sides are solid. The caviar service is extensive and well put together. The star of the evening: the famous prime rib is a unique experience. Perfectly cooked with a crust and jus that elevates perfection to the stratosphere. Deserts: I can't remember what I had to be honest. Service: excellent, timely and not pushy.

Despite great service this place is an embarrassment to the NYC dining scene. We Left feeling like we were taken advantage of. I had a $50 burger and fries that was disgusting at best. French fries soaked in grease and a burger patty that resembled a frozen burger from D'Agostinos. $145 for filet of sole ? Really ? Next time someone orders a $17 piece of cake, make sure it is defrosted first. It was so cold my teeth hurt and was basically tasteless. I have paid more for less and felt extremely satisfied and have paid less for lots more. If you charge top dollar, make it worth it. There wasn't much to like here, the place looks like the Four Seasons, is priced like the Four Seasons but is in the quality level of Houlihan's. The place was half empty yet that din' t stop this place from providing the bare minimum from weak wine pours to over priced everything. Breaks my heart but this place needs a total reboot. Insulting and borderline theft with a dash of pretentiousness. You should be embarrassed and your greed and inferior food will surely be the end of you. $300 plus tip for a spectacular lunch no problem. $360 for this garbage is insulting.
Be the first to ReplyThe Grill is probably my favorite dining experience in NYC.
The space is grand and elegant, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is always amazing. It's upscale dining without feeling stuffy or pretentious. It certainly is expensive so be prepared to spend a pretty penny, but it's worth it! We always start with a drink at the bar which is absolutely beautiful. I enjoy the grill sour, and am told their martinis are excellent. Onto dinner! Their complimentary bread basket with chive butter is magical. We started with a half dozen oysters (it's hard for us to resist oysters), the Nantucket Bay scallops, and the steak tartare. The scallops had a delightful key lime flavor and were super fresh. The steak tartare with small pieces of anchovies was the best of the appetizers, and one of the best bites of the night (highly recommend!). For dinner we split the prime rib (it's a big piece, so perfect for sharing) which is an absolute must here. We also had the lamb chops which were tender and juicy. For sides we split the hash brown and hunter style mushrooms with leaks and bacon. Both were great but the mushrooms really stood out for me. The sommelier was able to help us pick a bottle of red wine in our suggested price range (they have a huge wine selection, so help here was appreciated) which paired wonderfully with our mains. For desserts we had to get the baked Alaska (you should, too!) and wanted to try the German chocolate cake. They also gave us a complimentary piece of apple spice cake which was really tasty. They have ice wine on their menu which is the perfect dessert wine for me to finish an amazing meal. (During our meal we had the unfortunate experience of another patron accidentally knocking a glass of our red wine onto our table and laps, but staff was able to quickly take care of and rectify the situation which was much appreciated. Other than that, it was exactly the meal we had been looking forward to for a long time!)
Be the first to ReplyHighly anticipated dinner for four on a Tuesday night.
the dinner was spoiled by service & kitchen glitches .I will explain:We ordered four appetizers & four main courses. The two endive appetizers had too much vinegar on them & were not edible.so they were exchanged. Now we had a table with two people with food & two without. Awkward!Main course:Three dishes were correct but one was not what was ordered. Same situation again.....three with food & one without.Instead of doing what a fine restaurant would do(remove all main courses & start again, )they apologized & "hurried" to replace the incorrect dish. Well, it too more than 10 minutes to replace it so our entire meal was was an embarrassing mess. For so much atmosphere & gourmet ย pretension, the restaurant fully failed to deliver . I will not recommend anyone to eat there.PSThe food was ok but not special. The music too loud & the tables too close together( felt the flambรฉ heat from another table)
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous interior.
Lots of energy, even on a Tuesday at 6pm. Highlights was the Filet Mignon. The Pasta a la Presse is presented beautifully (the sauce is made table-side using ancient duck press), but I personally found it to be lacking in flavor. The menu doesn't offer any green sides, but can make sautรฉed spinach or grilled broccoli if you ask.
Be the first to ReplyClassic Wall Street watering hole.
Food is yummy and well prepared but everything is super overpriced. Interior surroundings are upscale and fancy. Service was good and attentive but I wouldn't pay the price myself. The best things we had were the duck (wow that wasabi) and the baked Alaska. Check me out on instagram @eatenbysteph
