Celebration lunch
Chum's imminent birthday was the excuse for a celebratory lunch at the now-two-starred Greenhouse. Has it changed since the award of a second star? Hardly, but then it always was good. What is so spectacular about it? At first glance, nothing: no flashy decor, no music, no extravagant lighting โ just grey curtains, blue upholstery, frosted glass with "the Greenhouse" etched on it, stylish staff, soberly suited, or for women (mostly) black dresses; the spectacular thing, of course, is โ rightly โ the food. On the whole, I think long menus are a mistake; the Greenhouse lunch menu is positively succinct: 2 starters (foie gras or scallops), 2 mains (pigeon or cod), 2 desserts, with the option of cheese as well as, or instead of dessert. Portion sizes are such you could safely envisage eating here every day, but I think the potential variations of the menu would soon be exhausted. On the other hand, there is probably a limit to the number of different dishes a single star chef can contend with (there is a tasting option, though). Dishes can be paired with wines (or in one case, sakรฉ), an option well worth considering. We both had hand dived scallops, served in a foam on the fattest dish ever, which I loved and chum felt too acidic; he went on to cod, and I pigeon. Mine came with a chicken liver on the side, which was nice, but didnโt seem to have much to do with the delicious pigeon and its rich sauce. Chum and I shared a little pan of pommes mousselines. We shared a single extra of cheese โ any 5 of about 8 presented on a tray, then cut elsewhere and returned in elegant slivers, accompanied with salad, quince jelly, bread and craquelins. Il was predictable chum would opt for chocolate dessert (Amedi chocolate, orange, praline, rosemary, coffee sorbet), and perhaps also that I would have the Citrus wakame, frozen meringue, which I took with a huge slug of lemon sakรฉ. Lunch for two came to โฌ270 โ a good investment for a celebration.

Fantastic food, service and wine. What a special treat! The presentation of the courses was spectacular. We went for the wine pairing and would highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Meal! and thank you!
We had a wonderful lunch here- the langoustine warn tart was amazing, the cod and deer fabulous and the soufflรฉ' was amazing! Definitely deserves its two stars. Great service also. We checked the bill the following day and realised that they hadn't actually charged us for the food in error. When we phoned them back to tell them and to make payment they were totally charming and wouldn't let us pay! So kind - thank you- we will most definitely be back!
Michelin worthy lunch
Had a beautiful visit and indulged in the lunch tasting menu. Each course surprised and delighted and was cooking at an extraordinary level. Attention to detail, beauty and magnificent flavour and variety on every plate. Service professional and friendly , proud to have a dining experience at this level in Dublin .

Seven months late, due to Covid restrictions, we celebrated a special birthday. Having booked it originally back in 2019 for Spring 2020 [I did say it was a special birthday], we decided to go try for The Greenhouse. Unassuming name, unassuming frontage on Dawson Street [very handy for the Green Line Luas]. That's all the useful information I have for you. After that I have no words to describe the MAGIC we experienced. As it was a special birthday we blew the budget on the tasting menu with matching wines. It's not cookery, it's art, it's magic...and beyond this amateur's ability to describe. Go.
Be the first to ReplyUtterly devestated and dumbfounded
Utterly devestated and dumbfounded today, when The Greenhouse cancelled my November 27th booking as they were unable to accommodate one of our party, who has an egg allergy. Having explained that the allergy was mild and would only be a potential problem if egg was physically present in a dish,(airborne or proximity of egg to other ingredients in the kitchen would not be an issue) they still refused to accept our booking. We had been following chef Mark Moriarty on his cook-in TV show during early months of lockdown and were looking forward to visiting the Greenhouse. At a time when the RAI and restaurants are crying out for people to return to the city, it is incredible that the Greenhouse can shun a booking and show such utter contempt for itโs customers. I bet if Phil Hogan had an egg allergy his reservation would have stood. Very poor performance team at the Greenhouse.

On a trip to Dublin, we decided to book in to The Greenhouse, we had heard so many good things. We popped in for the lunch menu, everything was just perfect. Scallops, venison and the gnocchi were simply superb! Faultless and cannot wait to come back. Beautiful setting with fabulous staff.

Highly recommended. A great tasting menu with wines well paired to their dishes. Throw in an aged Niepoort Tawny port and I was sold. Well worth saving up for.
