The Goring Dining Room London Reviews from The Last Year
Don't miss out on this gem
I had a most amazing night here, from the time I came out of the taxi, until I got into a taxi to go back to my hotel. Everyone was very courteous and kind, and made me feel welcome. I arrived a bit early so I had a drink in the bar, and because it took them a few seconds more to make it than planned, I got a free drink and some olives and snacks. No need for it, but it made me happy all the same. In the restaurant I was met with smiles and kind words, and help to understand the things on the menu that were foreign to me. The food was divine, everything was presented in a delicate way and I am happy with everything I tried. Even though I was alone and only had the table for 1,5 hours, I was not rushed and sat for well over that time. All the people who worked there were very attentive and made sure I had an excellent time As I was leaving, I asked one of the porters to help with a taxi, and felt a bit bad for him as he had to run to the next street to be able to hail a taxi. All in all, a most faboulous time. I would recommend everyone to visit. :)
Traditional British cuisine, but not amongst the best restaurants in London
Last weekend, with significantly sunnier weather (please come back), we had the pleasure of visiting The Goring Hotel for Sunday Lunch. There has been a renovation to the dining room since my last visit, but this hasn’t quite extended to the menu. There are some nice dishes on the menu; however, the menu feels a bit stale, and slightly out of touch with modern restaurants. I had the scallop which was very nice and fresh, but at £24 it felt like it lacked a bit of substance. The roast beef, was a bit chewy, and the roast potatoes that accompanied the roast as my main course were very dry, as if they had been cooked days before and then reheated. The food did feel rather underwhelming, particularly when we were paying £80-100 person, not including wine. Rating: 3.5/5.
Wonderful afternoon tea on the Veranda.
Beautiful space, polite and pleasant service..overall experience was wonderful!
The tops
Superb!! Newly refurbished dining room done to a high standard. Top service from all the staff and great food. Highly recommend
Great food, and atmosphere but Terrible service….
Surprised there was no cucumber sandwiches but each choice was really good but a few could have used a bit more seasoning. Deserts were nice and delicate. Tea was surprisingly left with leaves still in pot causing it to become very bitter by our last cup. For such an expensive place I was surprised by the very poor service we had to ask for everything. The happiest the staff Was, was only when you were paying or if you were an Asian guest…... I saw this happen at the tables next to us. I was also surprised they allowed a screaming baby to continue for a majority of our time there. We would happily pay for a great experience but be warned about the surprisingly bad service.
The most fabulous breakfast
Sadly I wasn’t staying at the hotel but had a table for 5 booked for a farewell breakfast for a good friend . Our breakfast was served in the conservatory which is where hotel guests are also served breakfast The service and hospitality from the moment we arrived was exquisite. We all had the freshly squeezed orange juice on being seated which set the high standard for the rest of the breakfast. I decided to go for the full English which then included the juice toast and hot drinks which was the best value in my opinion. After breakfast one of the staff kindly took our photo in one of the lounge areas with the famous Goring sheep
Appalling dinner experience
We have loved The Goring restaurant for many years but have not been since before Covid, owing to health issues. We accepted when we booked to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday on March 21 that the dining room was being refurbished, so we would be eating in the conservatory with a restricted menu. But we were horrified by the whole experience. The bar, which used to be very relaxing, was packed with no seats left and four of us had to perch on bar stools which was difficult as one of us is disabled. We accept that it is good for business that the The Goring bar is now so popular - but the extremely poor level of service was surprising and very disappointing. It took an amazing time to be served. One of us got the wrong drink and it seemed to tax the ability of the bar staff to make a ‘St Clements’ soft drink for one of us. All that could have been saved if there had been the previous level of cusiine and service when we got into the conservatory to eat. Only two of us had starters as the others were not inspired by the limited, and poor, choice. The crab in the two starters we had was very nice but the cavier was a joke as it was so tiny it appeared to have been served with a salt spoon. But the worse part was the four main courses which were quite appaling. Three of us had the beef which was served luke warm to cold, and desperately tough. The brocolli was utterly cold, as was the other main course of lobster omelette. This has been a favourite of mine as a starter for many years of eating at The Goring and this time it was unrecognisable from how it was in the past. In was utterly tasteless with a congeled top under which the omelette had seperated into a thick congeled leyer and a liquid base. The lobster tail on top was impossible to remove from the shell. I can only assume that it had been badly made and then left to stand for a very long time before serving. I can only wonder at the lobster- but it tasted as no lobster I have ever had before. We ate very little and did not attempt any dessert. We went home unfed and very deeply dissapointed – we shall not be returning.
Great menu great service
The lounge bar is gorgeous with a great menu ranging from a full meal to the club sandwich I had. I was served with excellence but also friendliness from Jean Baptiste who has that certain something all the best hospitality staff have 😀 Yet others in the room worked seamlessly as a team to the point I never had to top up my glass, or try to get anyone’s attention. It felt like home from home. Fantastic
Above and beyond service!
The Gorning went above and beyond for me and my friend today. We came in for afternoon tea and all of the staff was so lovely, friendly, and helpful. My friend started to feel sick as soon as we sat down and we ended up needing to leave early after the first course. When I told the staff we were leaving early I fully intended on paying the full bill for all the courses. Instead, they gave us no bill and wished my friend a swift recovery. On top of the above and beyond service, the tea and food we did have was delicious and the setting is beautiful, and in a great location. Highly recommend and I will be back the next time I am in london!
Superb
This must be on your dining plan. Lunch is extremely gracious here, with service that is discreet and elegant but still completely comfortable. This is one of my favorite places in London.
Given as little as possible for the money charged
The only place in London which charges £7.50 for a coffee without even a shortbread biscuit. Before the refurbishment coffee at the Goring was served with two fruit cake fingers - not anymore.
Great service but minuscule portions
This is a wonderful hotel and my past experiences of the restaurant have been outstanding, but not on this occasion. The service from all the staff was impeccable and the quality of the food excellent. However, the Christmas menu was disappointing. The menu said a glass of Bollinger Special Cuvée would be served but we were served Ayala. Although a sister house to Bollinger, the wine is quite different and not of the same quality. The turkey main course consisted of four very thin sliced circles of meat of about 5cm - the equivalent of about two mouthfuls. Yes, there were plenty of little treats with each course but on reflection it was clear that the inclusive menu of £130 was bulked up with a considerable amount of pastry items. So at the end I felt full but definitely not satisfied.
Excellent
Six of us reurned for lunch. We had a large round table well positioned by a window, excellent start. We all started with the lobster omelette which was excellent, the best I have had I think. The rest of the meal was also very good and the service was excellent, thank you. A complete return to top form in all respects .
