A terrible stay in a overpriced old pub with no staff on site. Avoid.
An extremely disappointing stay. The room was mis Sold. We ended up with a “best” attic room with limited headroom. If you were 4ft tall it would be perfect. On top of this, the room was not cleaned during our two night stay costing over £500. This was reported to management at the lifeboat Inn who were too busy to speak to us or contact us after we left . Avoid at all costs.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous place! Great value!
I loved this place! Rooms are stylish, very comfortable and lots of added extras - fresh coffee, sloe gin, biscuits, crisps! Staff at the sister hotel, Lifeboat Inn, were lovely. Fantastic breakfast there. I would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyNo 33 Thornham Suites . Stunning!
My husband and I stayed at one of the cottages at Thornham, which is opposite Thornham Deli. The cottage we stayed in was absolutely fantastic. The decor is stunning and comfortable, warm and cosy with a log burner. Upon arrival, we were given fresh bread, orange juice , milk, and biscuits, which I thought was a personal touch. If you haven't stopped here before, I would highly recommend it, not only that, you have Thornham Deli opposite which services quality food in the restaurant and in the deli itself. Very friendly place. We shall definitely be returning.
Be the first to ReplyAnother great experience
We love The Thornham rooms at The Chequers . We love the style of the decor and the way the pub has been styled . The price is very reasonable and taking breakfast at the nearby Lifeboat is no problem .
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the money
Very small room, only space for one bedside table, only two hangers for clothes so didn’t bother unpacking, walls were thin so we were kept awake until after midnight by next door talking & flushing loo, and traffic noise outside. So £270 for two bad night’s sleep - we won’t be returning and definitely do not recommend. Only good points were the breakfast at The Lifeboat and provision of tea/coffee in room & downstairs lounge.
Be the first to ReplyFab Weekend Break
Had a lovely weekend break at Thornham Rooms. We stayed in Willow which is located next to the main building on the ground floor and is accessed from the roadside. The room was clean with modern decor and had robes, hairdryer, radio, fan. There was a good selection of coffee, teas & biscuits on complementary tray. The main building has the original bar area which had a coffee machine, apple juices, crisps, teas, biscuits. There are two lounge areas either side of the bar. It is a great place to chill out and also to chat with fellow travellers. The village is well serviced with a Deli (expensive). The Orange Tree Restuarant and The Lifeboat pub/restaurant are in walking distance. Drovers Orchard is also worth a visit and has a Farm Shop (reasonably priced) which also sells newspapers. Erics Pizza and Fish & Chip Shop are located there. (Drovers Orchard is outside the village on a the main road).
Be the first to ReplyThornham is a wonderful place
Do you long to relive your teenage years. Well sorry to say you can't. However, if you miss living in a halls of residence the Thornham rooms is for you. Spend £130 per night in an unmanned HMO. (Comparable todays University accommodation costs). The selling point is you get complementary snacks in the lounge, or at least you would, if holiday makers didn't gorge themselves on the snacks leaving nothing but crumbs and crisp packets. The rooms are quite small and I can see why they have opened up the lounge as break out space. Sound is a problem, is you can hear the room next door burp or the alternative come in smashed and laugh their tits off. You can hear toilets flush, hair dryers, dogs bark etc etc. Breakfast is included, but that's down the road in another hotel so fingers crossed the weather holds or you could drive as they have a large carpark. The Lifeboat , I quite like this place and excellent food. Thornham Rooms, It's a truly odd set up. I imagine that on some occasions its wonderful. 3* because the rooms are clean, comfortable, ample parking and a nice idea. Dropped 2* because no matter how much nibbles or games are put out, people are messy, loud and clearly get excited.
Be the first to ReplyShort stay
Had an overnight stay here , room is very nice done to a very high standard and clean. They are many complimentary items on offer and tea and coffee making facilities in your room and downstairs in the lounge. Check in and breakfast are at the nearby Lifeboat Inn just a short walk away. Breakfast is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely stay!!!
Stayed at Thornham rooms following a trip to Sandringham with my daughter. The room was very clean with a lovely decor. Liked the fact they had high end coffee and teas in the room and a decanter of sloe gin, which was a nice touch. The building used to be a pub and they have converted the bar areas into communal areas for quest to use, with complimentary hot and cold drinks and snacks. There is no restaurant here so you have to go to the nearby Lifeboat pub for breakfast which I found wasn't a problem as it's only a five minute walk away and the breakfast was exceptional!!! The only downside is that we had a room overlooking the road and it was a hot night so we had the window open. However the road was very noisy. On the whole it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely return again.
Be the first to ReplyRelaxing little gem
Checking very easy at the lifeboat. Our room exceptionally clean. Some lovely little touches such as small decanter of I thinkMadeira wine, fresh coffee and selection of teas. The toiletries and dressing gown a high standard. Definitely would return
Be the first to ReplyNice cottage very helpful staff
Had a lovely stay for a couple of nights. We thought we would be in the old pub, but was in a cottage on site. Room was very nice, bed was comfy, decor was nice and the complimentary teas had a great selection! The one very minor thing on the room, it could use a small coffee table or something with the two comfy chairs. Before my stay I found the reception team (who are at the lifeboat inn) very helpful and friendly when answering my further questions. We also had breakfast and dinner at the lifeboat inn which is a 6-7minute walk or 2-3 minutes by car. Breakfast was lovely and they had good gluten free options for my wife. Gave us plenty of energy for the days hiking! Dinner was also nice, just a little on the slow side to take our order. Would happily go back again!
Be the first to ReplyRooms only at the Chequers
I booked the Chequers because we had stayed previously. It was a PUB. I only found out the day before that we needed to go to the Lifeboat to pick up the keys, too late to cancel. I also got an e mail from the Lifeboat saying it was room only. When I called reception at the Lifeboat I was advised it was bed breakfast, breakfast was at the Lifeboat. Only a five minute walk from the Chequers, in fact five minute car ride. I also mentioned to the receptionist that I did not see that the pub had gone to room only, she said it would be at the bottom of the Booking.com information. Surely this should be noted at the top, not the bottom. I was also advised a porter was on hand at the Lifeboat 24hours a day in emergency and we could ring. My mobile was on emergency calls only. So in an emergency I would have to run around to the Lifeboat. Too LATE then. They should have a phone on the bar that only connects to the Lifeboat in case of emergency. BEWARE this is no longer a PUB. I will not stop at the Chequers again.
Be the first to ReplyTotally rip off
So very disappointed in this new restaurant.Decided to pay it a visit but that's the last time I'll be there.Unless you love fish the menu is mostly fish and some if the meat dishes were unavailable at 6pm on a Friday night.Steajs were nothing to get excited about.exit door blocked by large plant pot.we finished meal (may I point out not once during meal did the manager approach our table to see if everything was ok)he was busy chatting with staff members not checking on customers while it was quiet We ordered a bailys coffee and an Irish coffee a child could have made a better job if them .Now the icing on the cake the bill we were charged 16 euro fir each coffee omg total shame on you that's totally over charging.I was totally discussed to see this.wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.do your homework there are so many lovely restaurants in this area that will make you feel so welcome and won't rip you off
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing service from a business that is clearly struggling
We booked bed, breakfast and dinner in advance. However, the management changed hands and there was no dinner service at the Chequers. We had to constantly chase to find out what was going on with the booking. We and others were not told that, contrary to their email communications, check in had moved to the other end of the village which led to us hanging around in the cold outside the deserted building. When we did finally get the keys the room was fine but we still had to beg for things like ordinary tea bags. They moved our dinner reservation to a cheaper pub with only two days notice, yet they bizarrely refused to honour our dinner prepayment without a fight. Really disappointing service from a business that is clearly struggling. As things stand we would not stay again.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent
Considering Hunstanton is such a dump I was surprised how lovely the village of Thornham was. This hotel was excellent, rooms clean and well presented and more interesting than most boring hotel rooms. The evening meal was 5 star, not cheap but well worth it in my opinion, and the breakfast was great. I can’t fault the place.
Be the first to ReplyGood quality food, sometimes uneven execution and sadly always very stretched service.
We eat here quite frequently. The food can be excellent and quite delicious but steaks are sometimes an absolute lottery. The quality of ingredients is always good but medium-rare can come out well done and medium can come out very rare. Oysters can be poorly shucked. Service is well meaning but painfully stretched. It’s not the staffs fault at all but the thinly spread front of house team just cannot help but show the pressure they’re under. It’s a shame because despite their best efforts it undermines what would otherwise be a top choice. Personally this has much more potential than the orange tree. The food is often better, but the service leaves it chronically down the league table on atmosphere.

Had the best nights stay, meal and breakfast superb service from the moment we arrived . Steph and fellow colleague were amazing our evening meal was superb : sea-bass and lobster risotto and steak , truly fantastic snd then breakfast in the morning was amazing- definitely be back .

Be the first to ReplyA beautiful hotel in a wonderful location!
I came for an overnight stay on Wednesday 15th and I was certainly not disappointed! What a beautiful hotel, in such an idyllic location on the North Norfolk Coast. I enjoyed the walk from the hotel up to Holme Dunes - the scenery was breathtaking. The hotel itself had a lovely atmosphere. My room was tastefully decorated, with excellent facilities and it was clear to me that the owners and staff take a lot of care in ensuring that their customers are able to stay in comfortable and welcoming surroundings. The staff were friendly and very happy to help. The breakfast was very enjoyable - very nicely cooked and presented, and I loved the comfortable dining area. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit the North Norfolk Coast.
Be the first to ReplyLovely food in a relaxed atmosphere
We stayed at chequers over the jubilee weekend and for our first night we had dinner in the bar. We took our dogs down with us and we were joined by other residents and their dogs too. It was a very friendly and relaxed setting. The food was amazing. Very well presented and perfect portion sizes. We both had a starter and a main. We did ask about dessert but the menu never reappeared. The food is quite pricey but it is worth it. On a side note the breakfasts are also amazing.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem
This Inn is fantastic. Hidden gem in north Norfolk. A unbelievable quite beautiful beach within walking distance((not supposed to talk about it). My room was amazing and the staff were so nice and could not be more helpful. Absolutely no complaints at all.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Came for a few days away for our anniversary and a first break since Covid. Great location, nice decor and warm welcome. Had the least expensive of the rooms, but have to say very disappointed. Room so small can only get in or out of the bed on one side, a few hangers for clothes and no drawers so living out of a suitcase. Ok for an overnighter but not if staying a few days. Bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever tried to sleep in ... and I am used to camping! Dinner was ok but expensive, nice waitress but slow service as not enough staff. Other diners walked out, candles on tables not lit, limited menu if vegetarian. People in the room above very noisy until around 10.30 pm. Room faced the road so not relaxing and needed to keep the blind closed at all times for privacy as overlooked. Definitely style over substance.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding stay
Wonderful location for visiting Norfolk coast. Staff throughout our stay were excellent, friendly and helpful. Food at dinner and breakfast was very very good. All round a short (overnight) but really enjoyable stay. Will be back next time we are in the area.
Be the first to ReplyGreat reuben
Went in last week, great reuben sandwich, nice seating out front whilst the weather was still good, decent beers on tap.
Could just do with extra staff at points to speed up bar service but I’m aware so could most of the hospitality industry and they had a sign looking for extra staff so this was all fine.
Very friendly bar lady, will visit again soon to check out the rest of the menu
Fabulous discovery
We took advantage of some unseasonably good weather and headed off for a couple of days, booking here for one night on a whim. What a discovery!! Our ground floor room was cosy, clean, modern and had everything that we needed. The deep bath and power shower in the generous sized bathroom was a bonus too. We had a great evening meal (they were short staffed but coped admirably) followed by a wonderful breakfast. We will definitely visit again - the food alone is worth a re-visit!
