The Butchers Arms Gloucester Reviews from The Last Year
A hidden gem and a must to experience. Do it!
I would like to thank Mark and Jo for their recent hospitality. I took my ten year old daughter after a recent separation from her mum and we were made to feel so welcome. We stayed in their cottage on site which was a home from home. The ambiance as soon as you walk in is second to none. You are greeted like old friends. The food was sensational. A must when in this part of the world, or even if you are not, book and stay and experience the best. Blown away and I have had the luxury of eating in some Michelin Star restaurants and let me tell you, this is up there! Thank you.
A Delightful Delicious Dinner
We went to cheer up a dark January and it was totally top notch. Delicious food, wine and drinks. Lovely friendly service and super surroundings. We will definitely go again.
Beautiful, but let down by a small but important part
A really lovely looking pub in this beautiful village with the exterior lit up for Christmas. The restaurant was busy and the service was excellent. The food was lovely; some lovely inventive dishes with local ingredients, on a small but adequate list of menu options. Meat and fish were both excellent and beautifully cooked, apart from a very tough sirloin steak which was difficult to cut from the off (!) and then noticed it had a rather large tendon running through it. Unfortunate really, but having had to pay £32 for this means I won’t return. Everything else was really lovely. Many reviews on here seem to refer to this pub as having a Michelin star. It’s worth noting that this is not the case and that the pub appears in the Michelin Guide. Two very different things.
Excellent cooking.
Returned for the first time in almost 10 years. Similar experience as before. Beautiful location, lovely old building, excellent food. Seriously very good. For us the night felt rushed a bit , no time between courses, uncomfortable due to the seating arrangement, down light in our face; and a special night for us came to an end as we decided to head home early. Food excellent. Meat cook perfectly pink and delicious accompanying veg. Very talented chef. Just, for us, the atmosphere/experience of the night again didn't amount to a romantic/cosy night.
Birthday lunch
Recently had lunch here for a birthday celebration. What a fantastic experience it was too. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The service was impeccable and food was divine. We will definitely be coming again.
Friday night dinner
If you are somebody that reads the other reviews look how old the nine "terrible" reviews are, they are certainly no longer relevant. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was terrific. The 93.75% "excellent" and "very good" reviews should be noted, we will be going back.
A warm welcome and a wonderful experience
We recently ate at this wonderful pub. Cannot recommend it highly enough. The food was sublime. They have a wonderful wine list. The staff are just excellent. Don't hesitate...just go and enjoy.
Courses for horses!
Dinner and an overnight stay in the cottage at The Butcher's Arms were the perfect prelude before a day at nearby Hartpury's International Horse Trials last weekend. The food was delicious and well on the way to achieving another Michelin Star. This is a 'proper' pub with seriously good restaurant food - in a delightful, old building that oozes character. The cottage is thoughtfully decorated and provided a very comfortable night's sleep - and only 1 minutes' walk from the restaurant!
Sublime…highly recommend
Came for a spot of lunch with my Dad, we had the most amazing food that was beautifully presented. Service was slick and speedy with friendly staff. Highly recommend having a starter, main and pudding….and the English wine is delicious.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
