I checked into the hotel and was given room 17.
I went with my mother to the room and it was downstairs in what felt like a basement. My mother kept going on about how it felt wierd and she didnt like it but I just told her she was crazy and it was just a dark wierd shaped room. We had a view of the dumpster outside so we kept the curtains shut. The TV was also out of order. We asked them to fix it while we left to town. We come back to a still broken TV and they offered to move us to another room which we happily accepted. We were moved to room 12. This room was on the other side of the pub upstairs and we felt like we were in a different hotel. The room was bright and white and slightly bigger and normally shaped. We both slept more comfortably. Breakfast is included and was a choice of cerials, tea and coffee and a cooked English breakfast. We had dinner in the pub the first night which was alright but not amazing. The ice cream trio was the best part. I'd reccomend eating dinner at the Italian across the street. Overall the service is pretty slow, the rooms weren't very clean and after the first night nobody had brought fresh towls or made the bed or anything. We had put the dirty towls on the floor and they somehow just got hung up.. Gross.. Lol.

Think there's nothing to do in Fairford? BULLsh**! The year was 1999. I was somewhat of a young bull myself. That is, I was an intact (i.e., not castrated) adult male of my species. I had been dispatched to Fairford for a few months and one of the first orders of business was finding the local watering holes. The Bull quickly became our favorite and most visited pub in town. From the minute I walked into this place, it was exactly as I pictured. The quintessential small town English pub. There was the table in the corner with the bearded fellows discussing what I imagined were important local issues like the health of the sheep flocks or the prospect of future sunshine. There was the thin man sitting alone, drinking an ale, and looking as if he just realized the flocks weren't healthy...and there would be no more sunshine. There was the elderly lady who welcomed everyone in with a smile, a kind word, and a hug. Finally, there was me. The wide-eyed 20-year-old Yankee who was eager to fill his stomach with beer and meat and fill his arm with a special English lass. Of course, even Yankees strike out, and this one was no different The first young lady on the radar, a waitress at the bar, turned out to only be 15. Hey, at least the beer and meat part was accomplished! There would be many more days and nights at the Bull and many more stories to tell. Those are stories for another time, however. For now, I urge you to take leave of this review, go to Fairford, and take the Bull by the horns. Hey, that waitress is in her late 20s by now...
Be the first to ReplyWe arrived in to the Bull Hotel just minutes before 14:00
We arrived in to the Bull Hotel just minutes before 14:00 to get some Sunday lunch. After settling down at a table and finding the menus, we established that food was only been served between 12:00 and 14:00. By this stage it was 14:05At first they were not willing to serve us food, but they relented and because the chef had not left the building they were willing to serve us either of the roasts on offer that day, but nothing from the main menu. We had two non-meat eaters in our party of five, roast was not an option for them. But they kindly served two vegetable lasagnes after some pleading. So a hotel that only serves Sunday lunch between 12:00 and 14:00. I think this is a bit ridiculous to be honest. But perhaps they cannot afford to keep the kitchen open and its staff for longer. I can only speculate.Oh, the food did arrive really quickly. I went for the roast beef. The meat was fine. The veg was overcooked and the Yorkshire pudding just meh. It was only £7.95 (I think). So you get what you paid for. They gained one star because they did feed us in the end, even though it was after 14:00. Otherwise it would have been a one star review.
