Overall, I would recommend Taqueria Habanero to anyone in the area looking for a solid taco option. We always get al pastor and it hits the spot. While it may not be the absolute best taco spot around (MD has amazing spots not too far away!), it's still worth trying for anyone in the mood for some Mexican food. My filipina gf just had a craving and her wish is my command....... overall a satisfying meal.

This restaurant lives 100% up to the hype - if you're considering going for amazing food, and good drinks and service this is the spot! They are walk in only and we had to wait about 15-20 min on a Saturday night around 7:30pm which wasn't bad. There's a patio area as well so they have more seating when it's warm out. The ambiance makes for an upscale yet authentic Mexican experience. It's approachable but a good ambiance overall. We loved everything we tried. The birria tacos were well made with a tasty sauce. The shrimp quesadillas were loaded with fresh shrimp and lots of cheese. The portion sizes were decent and we had leftovers to take home. We had a pitcher for $40 which gave us about 4-5 drinks which I feel is well priced. The drink selections were quite unique. Overall a must try for Mexican food in DC!
Be the first to ReplyGreat value, great food and great service.
The al pastor is my favorite item on the menu, but I have never ordered something bad from this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyI love coming to Taqueria Habanero.
I've been here a few time for lunch and their tacos are always on point. I'm a fan of their Al Pastor Tacos, Barbacoa Tacos, Carne Asada. I've tried some other things on their menu and haven't been disappointed. Today I had their Chilaquiles with red salsa. I opted to skip the extra protein today and it was delicious with the egg on top. Always ask what the Agua Fresca of the day is. When I went it was Hibiscus (Jamaica in Spanish) and they had Pineapple. I recommend their Aguas, but if you're feeling festive get any of the margs. So good!

Tacos used to be world class, now they often are on the greasy side. I still like this place a lot though.

Been coming here for a long time and have never had a bad taco or experience. Their best taco is the al pastor but you really can't go wrong.

One of my favorite bib gourmand spots in DC! They're an unsuspicious shop in Columbia Heights serving delicious Mexican food. They're known for their tacos, but anything here is delicious and worth ordering. Chips n Salsa - I still regret not buying some extra salsa to take home! The first order is free, but you're going to want more. Queso Fundido - Super cheesy and deliciousChorizo Taco - Loved the chorizo flavors hereAl Pastor TacoNopal (Cactus) TacoTinga Poblana Taco - Great flavors from the poblanaLengua (Beef Toungue) Taco - The perfect chewy texture and my favorite taco of the night!Barbacoa TacoBirria Quesedilla - Not on the menu but they can make it upon request! Loved the cheesy quesadilla and flavorful consume. Choriqueso Torta - A shocker favorite of the night! They're known for their tacos, but this torta was amazingly juicy and cheesy. Pineapple Tres Leches - Loved how sweet it was and the pineapple additions. It's not super soaked, but I prefer it that way.

Best tacos you can find in the area because they aren't outrageously priced and they satisfy my need to find an authentic taqueria. I'm from Southern California so locating a spot that gives a fraction of authenticity can be a little difficult in DC. This is a quality spot.

Two words--F'en awesome! My partner was just in Austin and San Antonio, native of, and said this restaurant is better than place she ate at in the Republic of Texas. Small restaurant but that's ok. Esmeralda was a great waitress. The best tacos in the district and the mole'? To die for. This place ROCKS!

If you want some delicious cheap tacos this is your place to go. I have been going here for years, and I have noticed some changes which influence my review. Do not expect 5-star service, it is quite slow even when they are fairly empty, sometimes I have to ask for the same thing multiple times before I actually get it - utensils for example are not brought to the table if you order tacos but I still have a need for them I have to as several times before they are provided. I enjoy their tacos very much despite the fact that they are now served with one tortilla instead of two as it used to be in the past but I think their customer service could be improved.

I love Taqueria Haananero! The tacos have an authentic flavor with a bit of modernity. Although the service was a bit slow and no one to tell you to be seated, the food came out quickly. I had the hongos (mushroom) and camaron (shrimp) tacos and wanted more. I was going to try the grasshopper taco but they were out. Next time! The drinks were pretty good. I had a spicy margarita which really wasn't spicy, but it had good flavor. I'd definitely go back and I'd recommend this place to others. It is now my favorite taco spot.

I didn't even step inside LOL because we ate outside since it was such a nice day. So unable to say anything about the interior. This place sits alongside a bunch of other restaurants and we came from a recommendation. I got the chicken burrito and it was really good. The chips we ordered were on the thicker side which I was not used to for tortilla chips but I still enjoyed them. The salsas were great! Service was fine but I will say this place is just a smidge pricier. But maybe that's because I'm not rich.Overall, a good place to grab a burrito or any other quick Mexican dish I'd say~
Be the first to ReplyVery delicious food.
The green salsa with the chips were wonderful. The chips seemed freshly made. The shrimp taco was very flavorful with a slight kick. The steak tacos were tender. The quesadilla was just okay.
Be the first to ReplyWow! I mean amazing lively ambiance.
I just so happened to go on national Marg day so that was a plus. All of the tacos are handheld 2-3 bites so I got 4 and ate it all! Their salsas are incredible with different style and flavors! Even though they were sooo packed (and I came around 7:30/8, I got my food pretty fast. The place is small, but it's super fun! I'm definitely going back!

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but not anymore . Food is great but their customer service it's not good Starting with the manager, she got an attitude that you can feel it from far away . I was disappointed after I took my husband to this restaurant on Valentine's Day that we ended up ordering for take out and on top of that they it was really crowded and we spent a long time waiting for our order while other people were coming in and out with there orders until a guy asked us what was our order but we didn't get a order number or anything . The food was just sitting the whole time it was ready but no one said anything. Once again the food is okay but the environment not good .

Be the first to ReplyUpdate still awesome.
Green salsa and queso fundido are amazing. Tried quesadillas for the first time - amazing and made with the house corn tortillas. Birria tacos were also very good. re ranking the meats for what I remember I've tried - pastor, chorizo, shrimp, steak, lengua, barbacoa, carnitas, chicken, pulpo
Be the first to Reply5 stars!! Been here twice and great each time.
Get the hibiscus marg, chicken in mole, and queso fundido. You get chips and salsa to start which is great.
Be the first to ReplyI love taco and never been here.
And now I love Taqueria Habanero and tacos. Their tacos have some special flavor, tortillas are great. Also great options for taco additions like onion, cilantro, pico, salsa, cheese. Prices are not small, but tacos are big and really worth it.

Been doing taco Tuesday foe quite some time, and I have to say the corn tortillas (we got them 2 per taco) are the best delivered tortillas we've gotten. The 15 taco platter is way more than 2 plus a toddler can eat in an evening, and it comes with a bunch of fixings on the side (onions, salsa, cilantro, pico). I don't like cheese, so am glad these are Mexican style without it. The habenero salsa (ordered separate) is flavorful, super spicy, but not just a spice bomb (so it's awesome for spice lovers, as opposed to people who just want to burn their mouths), and the grilled serranos are great to cut up on tacos. Chips and guac were also a good add on. Only negative item is that the meat at some other taco places (e.g., Oyamel or El Chuco) is more flavorful, but still solid flavors here.
