Takai by Kashiba Bellevue Reviews from The Last Year
Really bad service and rude workers unfortunately.
Not the smartest when it comes to customer service. You can have just of great as an omakase somewhere else without the baggage.
The only reason this is a 4 star is because I've been to
The only reason this is a 4 star is because I've been to most of the other high end sushi places in the area and it's fierce competition. I'm sure on any given day they could all compete for the top spot. Ambiance I would describe as Bellevue standard. It's modern, clean, but nothing about it particularly stands out. Service was 4.5 which I would expect at this price point. Dishes were explained well, courses timed well, but I had to ask for a thing or two twice- no biggie. The presentation was 5/5. Minimalist given the nature of it being sushi, but the dish selection and placement was perfect. The freshness of the food was obviously 5/5 but I wouldn't expect any less at this price point. I appreciated the uniqueness of some aspects like marinated tuna or clear jelly on top of an oyster, but I'm not quite convinced everything worked. Value 3/5. I believe it was 11 dishes for omakase. I can't say I was a huge fan of every single dish unlike other places I've tried at this price point. The overwhelming majority of them were very good though. At this price point, my wallet doesn't quite agree with dedicating 2 dishes to tempura and ice cream though. Where the value really dips for me is in the drink selection. There really isn't a reasonably affordable bottle selection nor is it the best value by the glass. Their selection of bottles on the low end(by memory) was $200 and went as high as ~$1800? Not sure who is buying those but not I. The pairing I believe was $60 which isn't the worst but certainly way better value to be had. Given the seasonality of sushi restaurants, would I come back? Definitely. Was the food very fresh? Definitely. Do I think it is the best value at this price point? No.

The fish was fresh, the service, impeccable, and the ambience was superb!! The bill at the end was high but not unreasonable. I will go back again even though it's almost $200 a person without alcohol.

Easily one of my top 5 dining experiences ever! This was a major splurge for us, as it was our 25th Wedding Anniversay celebration. Usually we'll travel out of the country for this special occasion, but there are several things that prevented us from doing this. So we decided on an epic Omakase dinner at Takai by Kashiba. First, it's a modern, minimal space that reminds us of those high end sushi restaurants in Tokyo. We opted to have the dining Omakase experience at the sushi counter, it's the best seat in the house! I can't even fully describe the entire evening, other than it was truly extraordinary! There were easily over 20 pieces (I think if you count it individually it tops over 30 items). The nigiri was the perfect ratio of sushi rice to fish. I feel like every nigiri piece was portioned appropriately. Additionally there were other items, such as tempura, chawan mushi, miso soup, and sahimi. As many items we had, we felt satiated, not overly full. Chef Jun was a pleasant conversationalist. We found out his brother has an izakaya restaurant in Osaka, and we'll make sure to visit his restaurant this May! Takai by Kashiba is definitely a special occasion experience and highly recommend!!! We'll make another reservation soon!
This place is so good.
Amazing service as soon as you enter. They have coat check and even a purse hanger for you. When we left they handed our coats and they are warm and toasty. Very thoughtful. We sat at the sushi counter and I loved the experience. You get to see the sushi chefs make the sushi and our chef was friendly yet knew not to intrude as my friend and I were catching up. All the fish were amazing and were special. Some fish while I've tasted before just was prepared different (whether with a hint of sauce) that it tasted super unique. I'd highly recommend coming here to try it out if you haven't. Just top notch service and food. Saw lots of couples here and the atmosphere was elegant. Chef Kashiba also made an appearance. He was standing by the sushi chefs and observing. Thanks to Yelp reviews I followed the parking instructions. Make a turn onto 2nd street once you past the restaurant and park at the first parking structure you see. You scan the code to pay, but before you do make sure you apply the discount code that is provided by the restaurant. They validate up to two hours. Make sure you pay immediately as you park as I noticed a parking officer already running to check whether I paid for my parking spot.
Came here for my birthday in February .
Had the omakase with an added fresh sea urchin. Service is polite and efficient . Multiple courses that are well presented and well explained. Plenty of food for omakase and well rounded and balanced omakase set. Intimate setting, good choices for drinks and dessert, and beautiful ambiance.
The reason why it took me so long to stop in here is
The reason why it took me so long to stop in here is because one of my sons doesn't really like fish and when I make reservations on OpenTable, it looks like the only choice is to have the full course menu. So there were three of us that went my son who isn't really into fish didn't go although he loves crab and scallops so he would've been fine. When we sat down, we saw that there could be à la cart ordering so it turns out he totally could've come. I was iffy on attending because I'm not familiar with sitting down and not knowing what I'm going to get from a Japanese restaurant but I decided why not. I am really glad I did. Everything was delicious. I typically like very heavy flavors and these were not heavy flavors but I tell you I have never had sushi this fresh and so beautifully delicately done outside of Japan. I was so curious that I ended up trying and enjoying the raw scallop which I have not liked in the past. Well, it turns out that I was eating the scallops at the wrong place. I also tried Uni for the first time I can't believe I tried it was not something I really had to get used to because I believe this was top notch Uni. We all had the course meal, and my husband had the tea course service, which was so fun to see him enjoy- he loved it! I had a glass of white wine and then a glass of rosé. They didn't have red, which makes sense with the food that they serve. We were celebrating my son, and there was a small toast in the beginning, which was a really nice gesture, because so many times would making reservations. The restaurant asked if we're celebrating anything and there's been a couple times in the past where nothings been done, so why do you even ask? Anyway, the service here is second to nowhere on the east side. They noticed that my son was left-handed and served his dishes. Accordingly, there were so many small touches that I really did appreciate. They had to be watching our table to know when to bring out the next course it was very Canlisesque. If I'm going out to eat, I do appreciate the craft of restaurant service and a place that highly respects the food and the dining experience so if I could give this more than five stars I would. In fact, this is the type of place that makes me go back and want to review everywhere I've given forward five stars to and bring their score down star to punctuate what a five star should be. We were greeted by I believe the owner who came to our table in the cutest hat very sweet gentleman. I can't express how please I am that I tried this place. We will be back many many times. Only drawback, we parked in the parking lot just south of the building. There was plenty of parking there, but we got a ticket so be mindful of where you park. Oh, and I thought I had the best hojicha ice cream before.... I way, no how. The best is HERE.
High end, expensive and exquisite.
I've eaten there twice once for Omakase at the bar and a second time at a regular table. I did nigiri dinner with tempura order at the table and was still hungry after. however this and ascend are the fanciest restaurants with sushi in Bellevue if you want to entertain. For every day sushi, I goto I love sushi, Kura if kids.
This was a beautiful omakase experience in downtown
This was a beautiful omakase experience in downtown Bellevue! We were very lucky to be served by Chef Jun the whole night by the sushi bar. The sushi bar experience is super worth it if it's your first time ever trying omakase. All the fish and ingredients were super fresh. It was nice for Chef Jun to started the experience by asking us what some of our favorite fish were so he could cater the omakase experience to our liking. The vibes felt very high end and fitting with it being in downtown Bellevue. Great place for a nice celebration :)
This place was terrible.
Let me first start off by warning you that they don't have a full bar or a full sushi menu. They serve wine and sake and beer by the glass that starts at $22 and goes up from there. The sushi itself was just ok, I've definitely had better quality elsewhere. There's nothing creative, just standard sushi and you cannot order nigiri or sashimi by itself, they only serve in sets. Wish I had known this before coming as I am particular in which type of fish I want. It's also ridiculously expensive for what you get. I don't mind spending a lot of money on fine dining, but here you can have everything and leave unsatisfied. You're definitely better off spending half as much money and getting better food at Nobu.
"The food is very fresh, we enjoyed it very much.
The taste is also very authentic, everything is just right. Will come back again."
With the mixed reviews out there, I was curious to try out
With the mixed reviews out there, I was curious to try out Takai to have my own take on the bar omakase. Chef Jun provided an outstanding variety with a lot of aged and marinated fish which makes his style unique. You'll see a lot of the classics and the high points were the iwashi (sardine), nodoguru (blackthroat seaperch), and akami (tuna) sashimi. In addition to the nigiri courses, there are cooked dishes also served such as tempura and chawanmushi, which were excellent. I would easily return during a different season to try out another menu course. When walking in, I found the interior to be very modern and aesthetically pleasing. The lofted ceiling is sky high and the dim lighting sets just the right mood with light jazz music playing in the background. I would say the ambiance of the bar omakase is a bit sterile in a sense where the staff and chefs are not as fully interactive compared to other omakases that will make you feel engaged the whole time. It seems as though their goal is to have guests talk amongst themselves providing everyone with some more privacy. There was minimal small talk with the chef but outside of that the only other communication was providing the description of each course. Their doors open at 5:30 pm sharp, so if you try to arrive early on a cold night, you will have to literally wait outside until that point. Seats 1-6 starting from the wall on the right side will get you in front of Chef Jun which are the ideal spots, and seats 7-8 towards the kitchen will have you sitting in front of the assistant chef. If you are a single diner like myself, seat 3 on the corner is ideal as it will give you the most space and you will not have to sit directly next to anyone on either side with the corner angle. Overall I would say this was an excellent experience and would rate it as one of the top 5 high-end omakases in the greater Seattle metro area. To the experienced omakase diner, it will not be anything world changing, but can be easily viewed as another quality omakase to try. In terms of atmosphere it is probably the fanciest/most formal of an interior a sushi restaurant can get in Seattle/Bellevue, so taking a date here will surely impress on the atmosphere alone. For the interior space/city location/parking category, it would rank as #1. I can understand why some of the critical comments were made in other reviews and can somewhat confirm they hold true. There is more use of marinated and aged fish in this omakase compared to others that mostly use fresh fish which may not be to everyone's liking. And it is not going to be a rowdy loud time like at Shiro's in Belltown. If this establishment was bar omakase only it would definitely garner the highest reviews. But with how they also included a lot of table seating to maximize revenue, the pricing of the table omakase seems more reflective of the prime downtown Bellevue location and interior décor rather than for the menu itself.

This spot prides itself on providing an experience and they definitely do! The Omakase offering is extensive leaving you to feel satisfied. While I've only been able to snag a reservation in the dining room I'd like to also experience the sushi bar where it seemed more intimate.

Oiiiii, it's rare for me to review right away after a restaurant experience but Takai by Kashiba = a must write! For those who aren't familiar, Takai is one of Kashiba's newest establishment featuring his apprentice, Jun Takai and oh boy, does it hit the high end luxury side of sushi. Price point is around $193/person for the omakase and if you're looking to splurge, all additional sushi/nigiri orders outside the omakase set is at market price. Things to know about Takai: Parking & Location: Located in Bellevue, Takai is pretty easy to find. For parking, easiest place to park is the attached parking lot to the building. There is validated parking from Takai, so make sure to call the place and ask for the code :) Reservations: Super easy to do online or call but highly recommend making a reservation for the COUNTER SEATING! Trust.... The intimate atmosphere of Takai calls for only 6 spots at the counter and it's worth the experience. Ambiance: Classy and the dress code is smart casual. This place is a great excuse to dress up a wee bit and is perfect for dates and celebrations. Service: Was very fortunate enough to get greeted warmly at the door by Chef Kashiba (!!!) and overall, the staff was lovely and nice. Star of the night was definitely Chef Takai who did a wonderful job at presenting the food, telling the history/facts about the fish, and made sure all of the guests were comfortable. Whenever any of the guests wanted pictures, Chef Takai made sure we got the best angle and lighting, so thank you Chef Takai for all of your patience! :) Omakase Experience: Featuring a total of 31 items that consisted of appetizers, nigiri, sushi variety, and dessert, this was an amazing feast. To sum it up, Chef Takai has done a great job in selecting fish and other sea critters like crab, shrimp, geoduck that are from Japan, Spain and Washington. Every piece that was presented came with a quick fact of how long it was aged (average being around 6-9 days and longest being 16) and a quick blurb of what type of seasoning is used. Having done quite a bit of Omakase places in Seattle, this by far has been the most informative and yummy experience by far. Food Quality & Presentation: 10/10 for me. Temperature of the food, especially when it came to the Hokkaido Hairy Crab and Scallops = perfection. All the fish tasted fresh without a hint of the sea and quality itself was superb. More than half of the fish I had was a oh my goodness, melt in your mouth butter moment. Tea Pairing: Unique to this Omakase experience for me was definitely the tea pairing. Usually I'm more of a sake pairing when it comes to fish but being a tea lover, I couldn't resist trying out the tea option. With a steep price point of $45 for the tea pairing, I would say it's well worth it. Quality of the tea was amazing, with everything sourced directly from Japan. Overall, tried 6 different types of tea and it went really well with the Omakase experience. Definitely recommend this option if you want something different and non alcoholic. The little things that makes the night better... -If you're the type to savor your nigiri with your hands, there is a small wet wipe provided for your fingers -Complimentary Nikka whisky tasting at the end was such a surprise! -Complimentary sparkling wine was provided for my special celebration there Overall, I absolutely loved my first visit here and it certainly won't be my last :)

Is the chef counter experience pricey? yes, but Takai is a special experience for sure. Best omakase on the Eastside in our opinions. Having lived in the Bay Area for a few years, we find that comparable omakase experiences in Seattle are available but much rarer here. Takai is one of my Top 2 in Seattle as of right now (Jan 2024). If you can splurge a bit more, this vinoholic here says get the wine pairing ;). The table omakase is priced a bit lower than the chef counter. Having done both, you are not missing on quality of food or service either way (just on chef interactions). Both times I've been here, Shiro's made appearances as well ;). So you know they're committed. **2 hour validated parking, short walk to entrance facing Bellevue way.
Heartbreaking.
Either they have changed management or changed ownership, but this is NOT the Mediterranean Kitchen you remember. I was there for a reunion with family as it had always been one of our favorite restaurants. But the wonderful, famous lentil soup? Gritty, thin, watery, no resemblance at all to what their lentil soup was. The hummus, that had been the hummus against which all other hummus should be judged? Flavorless, which is actually hard to do with hummus. And worst of all, the lamb kebab? The kebab that used to be amazing seared marinated chunks 2"+ inches on a side, that you had to cut with a fork and knife to eat? Replaced with embarrassing miserly thin shavings of meat on a pile of pilaf. Clearly word has got out, as we were there at prime dinner hour and there were only three tables full. And the service, which is always been magnificently warm, left us without silverware for 10 minutes, without pita to eat our hummus with for 20 minutes, failed to replace the pita and when asked for broght mostly cold pita to replace it. When I mentioned it they took away the cold and brought us.. nothing. Just heartbreaking.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
