TAGMO is a small restaurant on Front Street where you can find numerous casual dining and drinking spots. While TAGMO is certainly casual, the food is plenty serious. The food is modern Indian, full of amazing flavors and very creative. The service is very attentive. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyI have walked past this place multiple times and each time
I have walked past this place multiple times and each time it caught my eye, so finally came to try it out with a friend. The ambiance and vibes of the restaurant were great - it was nicely decorated but also felt homey. We came on a Tuesday night so it wasn't too crowded but most tables were filled. We ended up getting there right as happy hour was ending but we were able to put in a couple drinks. I went with a red wine which I forget the name of but it was good. We tried a bunch of items: Khandavi, Aloo Chaat, Veg Biriyani, and Saag Paneer. I never really see Khandavi on the menu so felt like we had to try it. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I think there was a lack of flavor, everything was pretty mellow, not that usual Indian food kick. The Chaat was not what I was expecting, felt like there could have been more chutneys to it. If I do come back, think I want to try some items off the happy hour menu.

Be the first to ReplyTagmo, which translates to Tigress, is making a slow roar
Tagmo, which translates to Tigress, is making a slow roar in the buzzing NYC restaurant scene. Located in the Seaport district near BK bridge, Tagmo is trying to create its mark with a compelling compact menu of familiar & regionally unique dishes served in a semi-upscale setting. The moment you walk in, you immediately start getting a warm homey cafe vibe with a pleasantly painted wall decked with antique filled wooden lit shelves and a couple tables to chill. As you loft up a few steps, they have a beautiful main seating area lit nicely with soft white & soothing plants. On your table, the way of placing cutlery wrapped in colored napkin held by a decorated bangle is thoughtful. The servers are also very pleasant & describe the menu well. Being an Indian myself, I didn't quite need a description as menu items like Khandvi, Chaat, Sabudana vada just gushed in a sense of nostalgia from my home. We ended up ordering Khandvi, Aloo Chaat, Veg Biryani, Saag Paneer, Roohafza Spritz & some wine. While each dish looks mouthwatering & is presented elegantly, the flavors don't quite hit the spot. Definitely felt a bit underwhelmed with the spice levels. Every dish delivers a delicate flavor that may work well for many, but i was looking for a one-bite throwback, perhaps a richer slightly punchier flavor which none of these dishes have. Moreover every item in my opinion is overpriced compared to the quantity served & the taste satisfaction it should provide. Especially its a bit ironic when they're offering home-style food at a premium. Tagmo may be a good introduction to new Indian dishes for many. The small menu is still commendable for the unique choices & a decent effort to elevate the dishes. I would recommend this place for someone with a penchant of Indian food with just mild spice preferences. I'm debating a second visit, perhaps for a non-veg encounter, but the Tigress better get her spice right next time!
Be the first to ReplyHad an excellent dinner at Tagmo.
There are so many items on the menu that sounded delicious and I was so excited to try them. My experience lived up to my excitement, with all the dishes delivering on great flavors, textures, and creativity. The service is knowledgeable and our waitress was happy to explain dishes to us and make recommendations.--Dahi bhalla (fried lentil dumpling) - really good. This is served as a cold dish, and was a wonderful burst of flavor to start us off.--Khatta Meetha Chaat (Delhi street salad) - fresh & refreshing, flavorful, good for sharing--Seema's Sabudana Vada (crispy tapioca cakes) - really enjoyed this. Crispy cakes with peanuts and spices. Great complexity of flavor--Chicken Chaap (minced chicken patties) - favorite dish of the meal. So much depth of flavor, perfectly cooked, delicious--Chicken curry special - the heartiest dish we ordered, very tasty--Malabar Paratha (flatbread) - buttery and flaky, a great accompaniment to the meal--Firni (cardamom rice pudding) - a nice dessert, not too sweet, refreshing with the berriesEverything we ate was delicious and loved that we got to sample a variety of dishes from the menu. Tagmo does not have a full bar - they have wine and wine-based cocktails. I would have enjoyed a more classic cocktail program.

Loved my experience here!We were able to give TAGMO a try on a cold and rainy night this week, the strong flavors from the restaurant really helped us to keep warm.We arrived early enough to take advantage of the happy hour, which had cocktails at $9 instead of the usual ~$15. Pretty good deal, and the drink I had was basically a mango lassi with some spices and sparkling wine, quite tasty! In terms of food, every dish went great with rice or flatbread. My personal favorite was the red curry prawn, which had a wonderfully spicy sauce that was completely eaten!

For almost a year I would pass by this restaurant in hopes they'd open for lunch. One day as I passed by noticed they were now seating for lunch during the week.I love trying different foods especially when it's a small business run establishment. The food didn't disappoint and the portions were just right.

Wow. Who would of known in this district there's a yummy Indian spot with modern flare. I'm used to the traditional menu but this menu was small and curated and had me trying something different. I mean everything is good I had the murgh and a side of burtha which is flakey yummy bread. I'm used to naan but even then this bread was yummy lol I love it cute date spot and service was awesome. Come. Ok bye.

Sigh. I really wanted to like Tagmo. The menu looked incredibly unique and did NOT have the dreaded chicken tikka masala, my litmus test for whether an Indian restaurant is trying to Americanize/Westernize itself.Unfortunately, all those ambitious offerings didn't quite translate from text to table. The Dahi Bhalla and the Aloo Chaat were the strongest of the chaat offerings, with the latter being slightly more flavorful. Seema's Sabudana Vada, though, was a huge disappointment. It looked pretty, but it had absolutely no flavor. Like they forgot to spice the tapioca cakes or something. There wasn't even salt! The Gobi Matar was decent, but it's hard to go wrong with sautéed cauliflower and peas. The Daily Dal was similarly nice but forgettable. The best dish of the night was definitely the Meen Varuval, Tamil pan-fried flounder with whole red chilies, ginger and garlic. Get this. For libations, there is an ambitious list of cocktail creations capturing all the popular flavors of Indian fare, but your best bet is probably to get the Roohafza Spritz, made from the perennially popular Indian rose syrup, lychee juice, fresh lime, and prosecco. The space is beautiful, decked out with bright jewel tones and plants. The service was also lovely, with truly friendly staff. It pains me that the food just wasn't there, as I was hoping Tagmo would be another Gazab.

It smelled delicious when we walked and the upholstery on the Banquette is beautiful, however, things went downhill from there. There's really not a lot to say everything was really pretty mediocre! Dishes came out haphazard which is the trend these days but some were warm somewhere hot somewhere tepid, which seem to be the theme, some were good some were bad some were OK... The bread was nothing like I've ever had at an Indian restaurant before, which is not a good thing as it was rubbery and bland. "New Indian" - No thank you!

Visited TagMo during my spring break vacation and had my first Indian food here, the bread roll plate is a must have appetizer for all vegetarians. I also tried the Gobi Mattar which was good, with it's dryness being the only down side. The methi paratha's definitely made up for the dry Gobi Mattar and complemented the taste well. TagMo is a must visit place if you are looking to try exotic Indian dishes, I would like to give a 4.5, however the app doesn't let me do that!

Beautiful desserts. Feels like you're eating a proper Indian meal at home.
Be the first to ReplyThey've done a really nice job with the space very limited
They've done a really nice job with the space very limited but interesting menu everything was so flavorful . The prawns is a must. You can tell a great Indian restaurant When half the clientele is from India. Don't be shy to ask for additional sauces delicious to experiment. Came in handy with the flounder . Didn't get dessert because we will definitely be back. The owner/ chef is always there to make sure you're enjoying the experience along with the rest of the attentive staff.
Be the first to ReplyFor a small kitchen this place can make some amazing food.
I haven't had Indian food like this in years. Everything tastes like it was cooked with love. If you want a Delightful surprise and flavorful dishes you should give it try.
Be the first to ReplyGot excited to see an Indian Spot in FiDi.
Walked in to get some sweets as I learned that the chef is known for her sweets. The ambience was very pretty, well decorated as per theme and the staff was very polite. I got the phirni and 6 pieces of mithai. I am blown away by the taste and uniqueness. I inhaled the phirni lol. I will definitely come back to dine in for the main course.
Be the first to ReplyWe came for brunch, and I think it's better for dinner.
The menu is limited with almost no veggies or fruits. The chickpea sandwiches were good. The savory pancake was lacking flavor. The samosas were well-cooked but needed salt. The sauces were just okay. Would maybe try for dinner bc servers and ambience was good but food was sub pr.

From the moment I stepped inside, I fell in love with this place. I absolutely cannot wait to go back. First of all, the food:Khatta Meetha Chaat- refreshing, crunchy, tangy, satisfying, the ideal start to the meal.Sabudana Vada- never had anything like these before- absolutely do not miss, they are incredible! A nice crunchy, savory, shareable starter.Murg Khatta Pyaz- truly one of the best chicken dishes I have had. The sauce was absolutely perfect, the paratha were insane, I could eat this for every meal for the rest of my life. Paneer Makhani (Special)- buttery, creamy, tangy, and somehow also light and subtle. If they have it as a special, definitely order it. Beetroot Pachadi- perfect accompaniment to pretty much everything and the most beautiful color!Mithai flight- do not--DO NOT--skip dessert. A visually stunning masterpiece of all different flavors and gorgeous colors and textures. Standouts include the rose coconut and the chocolate burfi. Firni- yes, you should get this dessert too. Creamy, tangy, would also absolutely eat this for breakfast if I could. The service:Everyone was so efficient, friendly, helpful, warm, and welcoming. The food came out quickly and we felt very well taken care of.The atmosphere:This place is joyful. The colors and textures are beautiful- lampshades with fringe, Chinoiserie-inspired wallpaper, brightly colored velvety upholstery- and the space feels homey without being cramped. Would be an excellent date spot. The values:Worth noting that this is a QWOC-owned business that more than deserves your support.

I've been here three times and tasted most of the dishes -- all creatively done and absolutely phenomenal. Incredible flavors and presentations. You must have the lentil fritters and seafood, my favorites. Wish this place was closer to my home, I'd be there daily. The hostess, attentive staff, lovely setting and decor add to the experience.
