It's all about the cheese
Inspired by the mountain cuisines of France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Bavaria and Slovenia, chef Brosseau has brought upscale European and alpine mountain fare to his trendy restaurant in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. Located at 2728 West Armitage Avenue, east of California, Table, Donkey and Stick was an instant success from its inception. Open from 5:30 to 11 Monday through Friday and from 5 to midnight on Saturday and from 5 to 10 on Sunday, it has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide. It honors the eating and drinking traditions of the Alps. Honestly, we came for the burger, the house's signature CDK burger, that was rated as one of the best burgers in Chicago. Naturally, we had to taste for ourselves. But Table, Donkey and Stick is more than a tasty burger. We started with pretzels with grilled peach mustard, rye baguette bread and Brebirousse cheese from France, a soft and creamy and rich and earthy cheese made from sheep's milk. For an entree, my wife chose Arctic Char, a delicious fish with Swiss chard, maitabe mushrooms, pommes dauphine and tartar sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed the CDK burger with roasted onion, shiitake mushrooms and raclette, a creamy Alpine cheese, on a pretzel bun. Yes, the cheese does make a difference.

Table, Donkey and Stick is a casual small restaurant with big tables in the back for shared seating. The menu is mostly tapas like and small plates. We ordered a number of appetizers and small plates. Between the 6 of us, we shared two burgers that I thought was the best thing on the we ate. Per description on Tripadvisor, it said French/Japanese but I didn't really see any Japanese fusion on the menu. A good place with great service. If only any complaints I say the portions are small.

My wife heard some good reviews so we decided to give it a try last weekend with some friends. Unfortunately after looking at the menu I noticed something in small print that struck a nerve. โ A 2% surcharge will be added to your total to help us provide health benefits for our teamโ. Call me petty if you will but itโs not my responsibility to pay your staffโs medical coverage. Thatโs on you. Give your staff medical coverage or pay them better so they can do so. Virtue signaling at itโs finest, what a real put-off if you ask me. At that point we put the menus down and left without ever ordering a thing. Went to another restaurant close by and had a great meal without being subjected to a nonsense charge. Canโt comment on the food or service. Stay woke lol..

I've had this place bookmarked for a while, but we finally got the chance to try it tonight.
The menu on their website won't always be the most up-to-date; I snuck a peek before we went and wasn't super stoked on the selections, but was glad to see they varied slightly with the current menu at the restaurant.
We started off with some charcuterie; some type of smoked soft cheese and gravlax with a dill sauce. We loved it! You also get bread for free if you order two charcuterie items. Bread also good. The rye was not overpowering at all. Served really hot!
My main course was a duck with little bits and bobs (sorry I don't have my French dictionary) but it was cooked perfectly mid-rare and the taste was stellar! My cousin got the pork shoulder (I think) and she was also quite pleased with her meal.
We were lucky to sit on the patio out back, but they have a very pleasant interior as well. Seems to have ample seating. When we called for reservations they said we could probably just walk in (Tuesday) so we braved it and went reservationless. It seemed to start filling in by the time we left around eight.
Friendly service as well. I look forward to going back.
Burger is a MUST!
FUN little place.
Enjoyed sitting on the sidewalk patio with my gorgeous puppy son, Astro. A full burger for me, and a burger patty for his majesty.
We both enjoyed the service by John.
The burger, one of the best i have had anywhere.
The pretzel bun was done so right.
We go back. I need to try a few other things but reckon will be a regular for the burger alone.
The scoop of bacon cheddar jalapeรฑo was a bit confused but i'm glad i ordered it. Next time, Carrot cake.
Lovely Staff
My two hours here made me long to travel to the Alpine region of Europe (wherever that is), but I can't afford it, so thank you for making me feel frustrated and disappointed.
Lovely staff, kinda dumb food, and sorta douchey atmosphere. That's just the truth.
A rating of the best burger in town got us there, but, oh, what else we found!
We saw the review in the Chicago Tribune that said this restaurant had the best burger in the Chicago area (of 71 the reviewer ate!). We had a play to see downtown and decided to stop at this restaurant on the way. Not only was the burger outstanding, with raclette cheese (a favorite of ours), shiitake mushrooms, roasted onions all on a house-made pretzel bun, but we found much more on the menu that will guarantee a return visit. We started with their own made rye baguette ($3 extra), also delicious, with a foie gras treat - quite good. We added a half order of their take on potato pancakes: they were little squares of thin pancake with a mild horseradish sauce and were excellent. We ended the meal sharing their butter cake with a watermelon sauce (coulis), a sorbet, and an almond tuile, presented very creatively and very tasty. The menu is short, but creative and, though the space was a bit chilly at times, we were warmed by the wonderful food. And Chris, our server, was very helpful and pleasant.

My friends and I were looking for something new and interesting for cocktails and small food plates and this lunches the ticket! Great service and the food had really interesting choices.

I visited Table, Donkey and Stick with 2 couples and had an all around great experience. We were able to be seated quickly, without a reservation, on a Saturday around 5:30 pm. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and patient. Both drinks I had were top notch. All of the food we tried was fantastic. I will say, the veggie dishes really shined. The meat dishes were good too, but they didnโt blow me away the same way the veggie dishes did. Like most small plates/ tapas style places, it was definitely pricey, but it didnโt feel not worth it.
