Dim sum lunch
When we arrived for lunch, we were surprised to find that the spacious restaurant was well-patronised. The basic decor had an old-school feel of a Chinese restaurant. We ordered dim sum and they were served promptly. Some of the items were served warm, and not hot. We accepted them and did not complain. "Orh-nee" was very good and we accepted the staff's advice that it took 20 minutes to prepare. We were however, pleased with the service staff who changed our soiled plates and refreshed our tea with hot water.

Drunken prawn, braised ginger chicken, cabbage fish soup, and mixed vegetable (celery, lotus root, macadamia, gingko nut, carrot, sir fry) were good. Mixed starters - liver roll, prawn roll, braised duck, meat roll was average longevity noodle average. Suckling pig (not crisp and was too gamey), steam Pomfret was not fresh, Venue - very run down carpeting and curtains - no happy ambience.

Worst High Tea dimsum buffet ever had. Highly suggest you reconsider if you are thinking of having the high tea buffet dimsum at Swatow Toa Payoh. The restaurant has no pride in their food. Salty and too much seasonings to cover up for the lack of freshness. As for the one time serving of sharkfin soup (so so) and the plate consists of one chicken mid joint wing, prawn with mayonnaise, one fried beancurd skin and a small abalone.... simple fare to say the least except maybe for the abalone, would not even bother to ask for second helpings. Took photos of the food served but too embarrassed to post the rest of them. You might find some coffeeshop selling better dimsum. Waste of time and effort to eat there.... not worth paying for $33.90nett. Could easily get better food for that price elsewhere. Lousy desserts served. Shame on the chef who cooked the tau suan and serving it, would suggest he/she buying a bowl from dessert stall to know how tau suan should taste like. Compliments to the staff for their prompt and friendly service. Hopefully their ala carte breakfast dimsum are of better quality than the high tea buffet dimsum which are of poor quality simply because unlimited serving for most items.....note the variety of the dimsum are also limited as well.

Hard to find a nostalgic way to serve dim sum these days. This restaurant provided the dim sum served by cart pushing around the restaurant and you can chose what you like to eat. Varieties of dim sum ranges form steam to fry dim sum. Especially the prawn cheong fun is one of my favourite and the highlights. The shocking prawn described by kids meant crunchy is super yummy! The fish ball, siu mai, the braised chicken feet, egg tart, pau .. are really good and authentic. Great service and enjoyable!

We went here for dim sum around 10am on the day of Depavali 2021, at the toa payoh branch.
Dim sum is so so (especially the pork ribs taste starchy with powder..).I would prefer another restaurant which we ate frequently.
Price is similar to my usual frequent place.
Staff service ok. Crowd on the PH morning is not much. Prices seems slight above average.
Btw. It is not convenient for wheelchair or stroller (if I am not wrong), as u need to walk a flight of stairs to the 2nd floor.
Excellent service, mediocre food
First time here, must say service is very helpful and courteous. We were assisted by staff in using the lift for disabled and taken to our reserved table. Perhaps we didn't order the most delicious items but found the egg tarts tiny, too sweet and the pastry hard. Spring rolls also had a tough pastry, the shrimp chee cheong fun and chicken porridge lacked flavour. The best dish turned out to be the oyster omelette, beautifully fried and the oysters served separately, plump and juicy. The vegetable dishes were good, asparagus and mushrooms tender and not salty. The braised chicken had a very yellow skin but accompanied by fresh and nicely-cut cucumbers. Enjoyed the pot of fragrant tea and the dessert of fruit and sago were in generous bowls.
Staff were patient and kind throughout, really lovely people.
Bad service. Do not recommend
Very bad service. Made reservation but they didn’t allow us to go up until everyone has arrived. Despite reserving for 2 tables, we could use one first, they insisted that everyone has to arrive first. Even after telling them that there are elderly. We saw many others who were facing the same problem while waiting outside their store. Disappointed. Do not recommend. Go at your own risk, but I guarantee you will not go for a second time
Be the first to ReplyQuality of delivered food is shockingly awful.
We had lunch delivered from Swatow Toa payoh. Excited and expecting a feast, we were thoroughly let-down by over-priced portions of mediocre quality.
We got 4 measly cold halves of crayfish at $25. It was a real joke cos the plastic box was filled to the brim with a mash of fried egg, bits of splintered shell and onions and the crayfish bits were hidden in the egg filler.
Their crystal dumpling filling was course and the skin was thick. Talk about a drop in quality.
As for the teochew pork knuckle jelly, the portion that came was again paltry and arrived in a less than elegant condition.
The saddest of all was the pork liver roll. We didn't know whether to laugh or to cry cos the one anorexic roll was thinly sliced and smashed in a corner of a plastic box.
The portions were really pathetic and we're people who don't stinge on good food and are certainly not big-eaters. We are more than willing to pay for quality and actually enjoy savouring small portions.
This, however, was to say the least, felt like a rip-off. In this climate of dining-in/ takeaway during a pandemic, you have stand-up establishments who are earnest and deliver on value and quality. Then you have a few bad eggs like Swatow here, that are clearly taking advantage of the diner who simply can't quibble after the food's been paid for and delivered. All i can say is, you had us this time but you're not getting us again.
How on earth do they expect repeat business with such practices....
Great for Big Groups
Came here several times with my ex-colleagues; the restaurant caters for more than 6 people. Recommend to get the white beehoon.

Was invited for a small wedding lunch gathering of 4 tables in a room and surprising to say the food was quite good especially the promfret steam..

Luckily We bought vouchers from Chope $35 for $100voucher.For 9 people, the bill came up to $500++.The soups for a person portion tastes like starch soup. The shark fin soup was good. The cold crab was miserably small. The steamed fish is good. The yam ring was good. Overall, if we really paid $500 for the dinner.. Really not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyGood dim sum in a Teochew restaurant?
We were there on a weekday just after 8am. The large hall was deserted and we were the only diners there. The food came rather quickly but was surprisingly good. I particularly liked the sio bi which is a variant of the familiar siew mai. It tasted robust and was full of minced meat in a thin wanton skin. The lotus leaf wrapped glutinous rice was nice and savory. I have had this in many restaurants but this was the first time I could smell the fragrance of the leaf deeply infused in the rice. I also ordered the cheong fun with prawns. Although the portion was small it was filled with large fresh prawns in superior soy sauce. Value for money. I would recommend this restaurant if you want a nice quiet place for dim sum on a weekday morning.

Was searching for a breakfast place to bring mom to and was happy to find a dim sum option at Swatow. We arrived around 9.30am. Place was not busy yet, food was served fast, server was attentive.
Enjoyed the scallop congee, very flavourful. Had a fuss free catch up session with mom over a good dim sum breakfast.
This place has a nostalgic feel, and we always enjoyed our Teochew dinners here. Will come again.
