Sushi Sho Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year

Wow. This place is intense. The ambiance is just unparalleled. The sushi counter is almost set up like a theater and the sushi is prepared and served like art. It's delicious and very traditional. Make sure to arrive hungry because they give so many pieces of sushi I honestly lost count. Each piece was clearly prepared with great skill and attention. This was definitely a worthwhile once in a lifetime experience.
Amazing service, sushi, and ambiance for omakase! Omakase
Amazing service, sushi, and ambiance for omakase! Omakase is a way of having a chef's choice meal with several small servings. This meal only seats a limited amount of guests and is more of a show with dining. You get to see some of the best sushi chefs prepare the food right in front of you. The meal takes about 2 hours and cost over $700 for two people without drinks or alcohol included. If you like to eat big portions like me, you will leave hungry. The quality of the food is exceptional and you will get to try flavors of seafood from all over the country and Japan. If you are a sushi lover, I highly recommend a visit. Be sure to book your seats at least 2 months in advance. Cheers!

Oh. This was food theater. There were 25+ courses and each dish was like watching a painter work his art. The flavors were amazing. Everything was fresh (as expected for the price) but also very extremely well done. Best sushi rice I have ever tasted. We almost got sushi sho to-go another night! Service was impeccable. I'm allergic to uni and they made me two special dishes instead which were so tasty my husband ordered one of them extra for himself. Highly recommend, especially if you're staying at the Ritz.
Got the to go Chirashi box.
Was tasty and worth the $40. Will I get it again--probably not. Did I think it lived up to the hype. Nope. Only the single piece of fatty tuna blew my mind. Otherwise I feel like I could find something similar at a Japanese grocery store
A famous chef from Tokyo is using the hawaiian local fish
A famous chef from Tokyo is using the hawaiian local fish and other seafood such as oysters from WA to make his edomae style omakase in Honolulu! This was one of the must visit sushi Omakase places on my list, so my sweet boyfriend tried to make a reservation for months. However he had no luck getting a call through or email back from them. Since we knew that it was located at Ritz Carlton, I leveraged my Ambassador status at Marriott Bonvoy to see if we can get a hold of them. Magically, it took no efforts and they booked us a reservation immediately. So if you have an elite status, we highly recommend you to use it! Ambience- 4/5. It's nice, but not extravagant or anything like that. We did dress up and so was everyone around us. Service - 4/5. Honestly, nothing special. You'd expect a better service for the price you are paying. Sushi - 4/5. Sure, their sushi tasted good, but each piece was so tiny and not satisfying. When you bite into it, you can't really enjoy the mouthful of joy. Instead, the sushi disappears in a second. I'm not saying it's a bad sushi. It was surely delicious, but is it worth the money? I don't think so. If you come from the area where there's no good sushi Omakase and money isn't an issue, maybe it's worth it. But you can get this level of quality in Japan for 1/3 - 1/2 the price. Even if you come from LA or NY, you can get the same level or even with higher satisfaction level for a few hundred dollars cheaper. So I wouldn't necessarily come back here for sushi omakase unless someone wants to try it badly. It was a good experience though.
amazing.
would recommend going if you want to have something special. i don't think there are words to how great the experience is.
Exquisite experience.
We dined in. 8p seating. The restaurant is as shown in the photos. There are only 10 seats. It's very quiet. They also had a beautiful ikebana arrangement in the middle of the restaurant. Food was excellent. The seafood was fresh and the courses plentiful (I counted around 20). Some of the sushi and dishes had very interesting and tasty combinations using local ingredients (e.g., finger limes from big isle and diced macadamia nuts). Main ingredients were from all over the world, including Japan. The service was excellent. The chefs were friendly and the courses were explained well. You have the choice of iced water or iced green tea as the free drink option with the service. We opted for the iced green tea. The waiters never let that glass of iced green tea empty. Whenever it was low, the waiter came and replaced the almost empty glass with a new one. Outstanding! I do also recommend the iced green tea. It was delicious. Matcha maybe? After the set menu, you do have the choice of adding on additional dishes before the Tamago and dessert courses, as other reviews indicated. This style of omakase is familiar to me - other high-end sushi omakase places on the mainland do the same. Except for the places I've been to, I was given a menu instead of being shown the ingredients in person before ordering. I thought it was a fun experience - kinda like being in a fish market and choosing what you want. The chefs prepare what you order from the ingredients that were shown to you without putting those ingredients away or taking them to the back to be prepared, so there's no surprise as to what you are going to be served. We ordered the otoro, Saba, and monkfish liver. All were delicious! For dessert, I highly recommend the salt/sugar with ice cream. The vanilla ice cream is mildly sour, but the salt/sugar comes separately as a liquid in a small pourer that you add to the ice cream to give it better flavor. What a superb combination! This review is already getting pretty long so I will wrap up and say, thank you, Sushi Sho, for such a wonderful evening. This place is worth the expense. My wife was super happy as was I. Happy wife happy life, am I right? We will for sure be back.
Awesome omakase experience.
I booked it 2 months in advance, and the $350 pp price tag (tax and tip included) is worth the splurge if you love the sushi omakase experience. There were over 30 courses, and I was pretty full towards the end of the 1.5 hour experience. During the time that I went, they did include shirako (Japanese word that literally translates to white children). For the less adventurous eaters, it will most likely gross you out if you know what it is. The staff will describe it as "roe" but there is a lot of detail left out in that description. They do give you options for add-ons at the end of the omakase, and I opted for the otoro (fatty tuna). Overall, I thought the omakase was priced appropriately for the quality and amount of food. I would definitely dine at Sushi Sho again in a few years.

Had to post another review with the remaining pictures I had! This post has the remaining omakase items as well as the dessert :)
I ordered to-go on Sushi Sho's website for their $40 Bara
I ordered to-go on Sushi Sho's website for their $40 Bara Chirashi. Some days are more difficult to reserve than others so definitely try to be flexible if you are wanting to try their take out. Sushi Sho is location inside of the Ritz Carlton so it can be difficult to find, but the staff are always super helpful and will point you in the right direction. Now for the chirashi itself: The box that the chriashi comes in is beautiful and everything is so artfully put together. The quality of the fish is so high and the rice is perfectly seasoned. I enjoyed getting to try different kinds of fish and experiencing certain "melt-in-your-mouth" bites. I did however notice that there were a lot of pieces that were so tough to chew through. They also tasted "fishier" and definitely felt like scraps. I understand that this chirashi bowl consists of some leftover pieces of fish, but I do think that for $40 there shouldn't be a lot of tough pieces. All in all, I think it's worth a try at least once especially if you don't want to do the $350 omakase course, but it's definitely still a splurge and there's tons of other great sushi places around.
Finally! I've been begging my husband to bring me to Sushi
Finally! I've been begging my husband to bring me to Sushi Sho since it opened! The ambiance is very fancy. Sitting at the sushi bar feels very exclusive as only 10 can fit at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs were very talented and explained the dishes well. Each dish of the omakase was prepared very carefully. My husband said he appreciated this sushi experience over any Michelin Star restaurant we've been too. I agreed I loved being right in front of the chefs! Every work of art was prepared and presented so carefully. Everything I ate was chosen carefully prepared to perfection, including dessert. Why 4 stars though? Well, I was surprised when at the end of they brought out "extras" as add ons. I also expected otoro but the menu came with chutoro. Otoro was an add on. I didn't know this. I would've rather been offer 2 menus maybe a premium and a standard instead up the Is add on thing. It seemed tacky. However maybe this is common practice at finer sushi spots? Idk?? Overall, it's a must try and I'd like to go back again knowing what I know about the menu. Also, note that it is a flat fee plus tax. No tipping here as it's Japanese style. It's all inclusive.

I was looking for an omakase spot last minute to top off my solo trip to Hawaii and Sushi Sho was by far the highest, most recommended place that I saw. I was somehow luckily able to snag a reservation for 1 and although I was a bit hesitant because of the price tag, knowing how difficult it is to get a spot here, I thought it was a sign I could not miss out, and I'm so glad I did it. From the thoughtful service to the carefully and delicately crafted dishes, Sushi Sho has become my all time favorite omakase experience. We had a total of 27 courses including dessert and it was such a delight tasting each dish not knowing what to expect, but genuinely enjoying all these flavors in a new way. The staff make sure that your dietary preferences are met so that you can have a completely well rounded meal that you will enjoy. Thank you Sushi Sho for an amazing time, this will def be one of the most memorable experiences of my Hawaii trip.
Wow wow wow.
This is my 3rd time back. The food is amazing best sushi place I've had by far. Service is top of top always checking if we are ok if we need more drinks. Staff will bring you cold or hot towels too. The inside of this restaurant really has the Japanese authentic feel to it , I will be back again as the menu changes monthly. Prices are very reasonable too.

I actually came to this place 3 months ago so this is a long awaited review. I recently visited Japan and ofc I had to try their omakase. To my surprise sushi sho is actually very well known in Japan because apparently a Japanese chef from Japan started sushi sho and many other omakse restaurants. I do think it's a bit pricey $350/person. I came here with my bf to celebrate his birthday so after all the extra food that we ordered our total came to be about $900! after finding out how popular sushi sho is I definitely feel like the price is somewhat justifiable
Ordered the morning of 12.
17.23 for pickup at 4:30pm. Easy process. Selected both options: $40 Bara Chirashi "An assortment of seafood "sprinkled" on Sushi rice. With traditional" and $40 Futomaki, Authentic futomaki made with over ten ingredients such as green papaya." The to go boxes are high quality takeout. Here's what we experienced: 1. One set of chopsticks, we were short one set and used a spoon from nearby fast food restaurant 2. No lemon wedge 3. No soysauce packet or container 4. No wasabi at all 5. Tiny amount of fresh ginger 6. The Futomaki smelled very fishy and tasted fishy 7. The sprinkle of seafood were very small and very thin slices of fish Overall, ok experience, hence the three stars. The lack of lemon, soy sauce, wasabi, tiny amt of ginger and fishy aroma generated the three star rating.
Such a once in a lifetime experience, food was delicious
Such a once in a lifetime experience, food was delicious and meticulously prepared. Chefs and waitstaff were knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Service was unmatched, it was the little things and the attention to detail. And the restaurant is beautiful, pictures don't do it justice. I arrived a little bit early and my waitress sat me at a little waiting table with a cup of iced tea. I was then seated for dinner, and chose some drinks. I went with the sake pairing and everything the chef chose was well matched. Thanks for an amazing unforgettable night!
If you have the time and means to dine at Sushi Sho, it may
If you have the time and means to dine at Sushi Sho, it may potentially be one of the best meals if your life. I booked a reservation for a group of five through my credit card's concierge service. For groups larger than 2, you will need to call. From my observations, reservations here are extremely difficult to secure: even two full months ahead, dates sell out quickly. I've visited my fair share of fine dining establishments, and have experienced an assortment of high end omakase meals, but Sushi Sho has them all beat. Until dining here yesterday evening, I did not even know sushi could taste this good. The technique and preparation of each dish definitely showcased the 17-years of training and hard work our chef had under his belt: every piece was meticulously assembled. It was such a show being able to sit no more than two-feet away from the chef. The manner which he assembled each piece of nigiri showed a mastery of nigiri. I have no doubt in my mind that he could feel exactly how many grains of rice went into each piece. As each dish comes out to you, either the chef or his translator will come and explain the dish in detail to you, including where the ingredient is sourced. It is impressive how far and wide the ingredients have traveled. As the menu is omakase, there is no guarantee that my meal will be the same as yours. However, my favorite dish of my evening was the pike mackerel (which we were so lucky to be able to try, since it was the last day of mackerel season). For this course, we saw the skillful knife-work of the chef, as he prepared the fish from filet to a piece of nigiri. The fishiness was nicely balanced with the garnishes and the fish itself had a very nice bite to it. I feel like I could write ten more paragraphs raving about how amazing my meal was from start to finish, but this was honestly the best meal of my life. If you are celebrating a monumental accomplishment or special occasion, I cannot recommend Sushi Sho enough. Sushi Sho is magnitudes better than many Michelin starred restaurants I have tried.
What an amazing experience!
Wow! We came here for my 40th Birthday dinner and it was incredible. The service was outstanding and every single dish was just perfection. I didn’t want the night to end. The ambiance was perfect and you were made to feel special. When back in Hawaii we will definitely be going here again!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
