I've been going to Sushi Kou since its opening days.
Food, service and value are consistently good. Sushi Kou imports its fish twice a week from Tokyo's Tsukiji, so sashimi is fresh. I recommend that you speak to manager Anthony to ask for off-menu items to get a taste of the freshest fish that the restaurant offers in any given week. Because of Anthony I have discovered new sashimi to love, like the Golden Snapper (kin medai) and opened my eyes to things like Cod Fish Sperm (shirako), which I won't bring myself to try again but my palate is all the more sophisticated for having tasted it, I'm sure. Also off-menu is the Inaniwa Udon. These udon noodles are thinner than the usual udon (think linguine vs. spaghetti) and very much more delicious imho. It's handmade in the restaurant, and not always available. Some other restaurants serve inaniwa udon too, but the one at Sushi Kou is the best I've had so far.

Came to Tanjong Pagar wanting to try another place but it was full. Walked abit and found this place instead. Loud greetings and asked if we made a reservation, but sat us anyway when we said no. Their menu is simple and straight forward enough, with all the basic that you would expect. But if you do want something off menu or what is special that day, just ask. A different set of sashimi was offered one of the times that I went and it was great, came with fresh wasabi that you had to grate yourself. They have a fair selection of set meals too, which are value for money. Most would be less than $30 with a portion of meat and sashimi or sushi. Comes with rice, soup and a chawanmushi. Ambience is nice and relaxed. Both times that I went, there was no feeling that you were being rushed out of your meal even though the place can get quite packed.

I dined at this restaurant with my Japanese friend and we both have eaten at many many sushi restaurants in Singapore. This little restaurant is one of our favourites now. It is the same owner group as Rakuzen in Millenia Walk and they have the sashimi flown in from Japan twice weekly. Once you taste all the Sashimi or Sushi, you can immediately tell the freshness of the ingredient. The menu is short but they keep it simple with good quality. The service is great and the price is reasonable. There are recently many expensive sushi restaurants in Singapore with a very posh atmosphere and fancy settings. However the price is really jaw dropping at these places!! Sushi kou is down to earth, reasonable and friendly without cutting on quality. A good find when you just want good sushi and good service without all the fuss. Definitely the perfect place to take your important Japanese guests. Just a note: The Japanese chef is pretty good looking and friendly too! :p

Sushi Kou is a new kid on the block in the street of Tanjong Pagar densely populated with Korean and Japanese food. This restaurant is one of my latest place to go for if i have my sashimi craving =) Oh yes, this restaurant is by the management who set up Rakuzen so you do see some familiar faces when you visit the restaurant. If you are familar with Rakuzen menu, Sushi Kou food offering is not as extensive but they carry alot more variety of sashimi and fresh catch from japan. Always ask the wait staff for recommendation and you will not be disappointed. Just like their neighbour, Teppei, they offer relatively cheap omakase but personally I haven't to try them as I'm happy with their sashimi selections.
