Embark on a sensory voyage through the finest Japanese
Embark on a sensory voyage through the finest Japanese culinary traditions at Sushi Ginza Onodera, where each dish is a masterpiece crafted with precision, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Nestled within the heart of culinary innovation, this Michelin-starred establishment invites diners to indulge in an unforgettable tasting menu that showcases the essence of Japanese flavors. Hiramรจ: Halibut from Miyagi Prefecture takes center stage, enveloped in a clear Irisakรจ sauce infused with smoked Katsuo broth, Sakรจ, and Umeboshi pickled plum. Garnished with Hon Wasabi, halibut liver, and green onion, each bite is a symphony of freshness and complexity. Madako: Kanagawa Prefecture's octopus is presented seared to perfection, boasting a burnt, meaty exterior that gives way to a soft yet pleasantly chewy texture. Yuzu Koshล and green chile "Pico de Gallo" add layers of zesty flavor, creating a harmonious balance of taste and texture. Chawan Mushi: A delicate egg custard soup adorned with precious Ossetra caviar and custardy Hokkaidล Bafun Uni, topped with Hon Wasabi. This dish is a testament to the chef's mastery of technique and his ability to elevate simple ingredients into culinary works of art. Kรจgani: Indulge in the sweet, fibrous meat of Hairy crab, accompanied by Ossetra caviar and a Sauce Veloutรฉ tinged with crab "miso." Rare pink Shiso flowers and Hon Wasabi add a touch of elegance to this exquisite delicacy. Katsuo no Kunsei: Experience the unique flavors of smoked bonito, served as an aged mini "steak" and dressed with Dashi Shลyu broth. Accompanied by a chiffonade of fried Shiso leaf and fresh Myลga ginger, this dish is a celebration of simplicity and sophistication. Then Black Awabi: Abalone, steamed to perfection and dressed with a Sauce Bรฉchamel infused with green Abalone liver and delicate gold leaf--a true indulgence for the senses. After Ankimo Liver: Delight in the "Fois Gras of the sea," served in a sweet Shลyu sauce with Asatsuki chive--a decadent treat that melts in your mouth with each heavenly bite. From the plush Hata grouper to the oily, plush Vinegared Saba mackerel and the comfortingly mushy Hokkaidล King Salmon, each sushi offering is a testament to the chef's dedication to sourcing the finest ingredients and showcasing them in their purest form. As the journey culminates with Miso Shiru soup, Aged Maguro no Aka Mi bluefin tuna, and Murasaki Uni, diners are left with a profound appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that defines the culinary experience at Sushi Ginza Onodera. Prepare to be transported to a realm of unparalleled gastronomic delight--a journey that will linger in your memory long after the final course has been savored, the service was wonderful will definitely come back

This is an overdue review of Sushi Ginza, I was invited by a friend to try this place and wow, the quality, taste and presentation blew my mind away. The care and attention that went into each dish was felt by each bite. Honestly pictures do not do the food ANY justice. I think anyone that loves sushi, needs to at least try Sushi Ginza once. And even for people who don't like sushi, this may actually change your mind. If you haven't already put this on your list of must haves and go for it!
Be the first to ReplyRecommended if you can afford it.
Food - Offers an exquisite selection of all Japanese imported selections that are impeccably prepared and served. Was really pleased to have all my must haves - maguro, chutoro, otoro, uni, kani, among many others. Egg custard with seafood was a very nice surprise. All in all great omakase. You get what you pay for. Solid A Ambience - nice simple typical Japanese sushi bar set up with a touch of understated modern decoration. Good use of space. This is no cramped NYC sushi bar. No table. Clean restroom. A- Service - very well trained. professional. very attentive service. A Location - good public parking across the street.
Be the first to ReplyYeah Michelin 2 star! Best sushi omakase I have ever had.
Seasoning and flavoring are just mind blowing. Insanely great experience. Well deserved!

We've heard of this place for some time, but finally had the opportunity to try out this 2 star Michelin restaurant in Hollywood. It's located in a non-descript manner in a shopping area, with limited street parking. Once you step inside, you're greeted with subdued but classy interior, tastefully decorated in a minimalist fashion befitting an upscale sushi restaurant. There is limited seating at the chef's counter, where the sumptuous omakase is prepared. The multiple course omakase ranges from cooked to raw fish prepared in different ways, bringing out subtle to rich flavors depending on the fish. The highlights of the omakase was the handroll, chu-toro, unagi, and uni. The accompanying teas were exceptional and provided a nice contrast to the meal portions. What was quite interesting was that the waitresses provided a map of Japan along with where each seafood came from; this was a nice little touch. Chef provided a great dining experience. The price is on the higher side for an omakase.

Exquisite quality and artistry in the creation and presentation of each piece of nigiri. Impeccable and gracious service . Perhaps the finest omakase dinner I've ever had .
Be the first to ReplyThis was an extraordinary experience.
The food was magnificent and watching the chefs create their master pieces was an honor. The ambiance is pleasant and the dishes are beatifically presented. We were well cared for and the servers went above and beyond.

I've been to majority of Michelin star restaurants in Los Angeles, some worth trying and Sushi Ginza Onodera is one of them. Service was fantastic so was the quality of seafood! They set their maximum capacity each night so noise doesn't affect food enjoyment. I recommend it even though I wasn't completely full when I left the restaurant.

Having been to multiple sushi omakase places in LA and Japan, one should not be surprised in the quality of Sushi ginza onodera has to deliver. Quality wise, it is the best quality fish and most prestine flavors. It surpassed our experiences at sushi kaneyoshi, brothers SM, nozawa bar, shunji, and Inaba, etc. That being said, the price tag is also heft (400 before fee), which is quite a lot compared to the above places, nearly 1.5x as the abice excellent quality omakases. But that being said, if you are looking for the best experience in LA, look no farther. Everything was excellent quality and service great. Will be back again but only for special occasions.

Took hubby here for his birthday! We weren't keen about waiting outside as there is no place for customers to sit or wait. The service was pretty attentive. Every dish was delish, just wished there were more dishes. We felt rushed to eat in 1.5hr (was hoping for a solid 2 hr meal). The sushi rice tasted like brown rice, which took a bit of time to chew. When we were offered a special fish breed, they would show us a picture on an iPad. It would have been more realistic to show us the actual fish (I've been to places who show the actual ingredients). The restaurant had a simple design. Overall, glad we finally tried this place out.
Be the first to ReplyNeat and quiet, pleasant ambiance.
Fresh food and excellent service. Good choice of sakes. Thought there are many workers for ten people's dinner.

Ok so everything taste good, but just good, not five $ good, just good. If it was a 2$ restaurant i would give it 5 starts but for such an expensive place it was just ok. I had better food for much less money so we think it was def overpriced, nothing special.

Wow wow wow! Words can not describe the food/ quality at Sushi Ginza. Best fish I have ever had! So fresh, everything melts in your mouth. I think most of the product is from Japan. It was a celebratory meal for us because of the $$$$ but there were regulars in the restaurant. Very hospitable, made sure my visually impaired SO was accommodated- Chef Matsuki handed him every single piece of nigiri to make sure he received it in one piece!

The best sushi I have ever had by a long shot! Just absolutely terrific and the chefs were so skilled!I really enjoyed the whole process, the vibe, and being educated on all the fish we were eating. The service was also out of this world, we had our own personal waiter attending to us and making sure our drinks were full and plates cleaned etc. We even got some nice goodies to take home with us in the form of napkins and chopsticks, its a small gift, but felt nice and added to my enjoyment.Honestly if I didn't live 2 hours away I would come more often, I haven't been able to have sushi this good since coming here :(
Be the first to ReplyBefore coming to Sushi Ginza, I've only had one star
Before coming to Sushi Ginza, I've only had one star Michelin Japanese omakase restaurants so I was very excited to see what can bring it to the next level. Sushi ginza did not disappoint. When it comes to service, there's 1-2 waitresses behind each small group who took care of every detail from pouring chilled sake from the ice stands to making sure dishes are taken away promptly. The head chef Matzuki (turned out to be great friends with our sushi chef friends at Matsumoto) and sous chef Yohei were a blast quite the contrast from Sushi Q, where I ate two weeks prior. This spot had the best monkfish liver I've ever tried, sweetest uni like ice cream, best abalone texture & sauce. It was also the first time I tried baby eel. The flavors and textures were surprising in the best way. I wanted to go back the next day.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a very fun experience for my wife and I.
We get sushi probably 15-20 times per year and this was by far our favorite. The staff are very nice and attentive and the sushi was pretty delicious. I've read a lot of the bad comments on here before going and I will say I didn't see any flies. The music was nice and calm. My advice is to pair the Omakase with the chef's recommendation of sake as it made the experience so much more enjoyable but was an extra $350. You will not leave this place full but that's not why you come to places like this. It's to experience a delicious meal with a close friend, family, or spouse. I don't want to sound like an elitist but I think your income level does play a part in your experience. If you're annual income it's less say under $150,000 and you're spending almost $1k on Sushi for 2 people, that is a decent part of your income and therefore spending that kind of money in 90 minutes for dinner may not seem worth it. However if you're relatively wealthy, you won't be so sticker shocked and won't place unrealistic expectations on this place. You'll spend the money, have an awesome experience, and carry on with your life.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Omakase in LA.
Seasonal fish and ingredients.Chef Matsukj is amazing.Really sharp knives.Service is outstanding.Everything works right. World class standard and mentality. Must try.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Japanese sushi in LA.
It's the Japan quality sushi and service like you can taste in Japan. The chef is real, he might be a little bit nervous sometimes but Yohei is the man, great person with highly trained skills.Avoid here if you want the fat fancy rolls with the fake eel sauce and Sriracha like tempura roll lol.
Be the first to ReplyWe planned our anniversary dinner and trip around this
We planned our anniversary dinner and trip around this restaurant. We lived in Japan for 4 years and have been craving real Japanese sushi. They flew fish in from Hokkaido Japan and the flavor preparation and creativity was authentic. It is a small restaurant that only holds 11 people or so, we had 8 at our seating in the whole place. They do a 5pm and 730 seating and there is only a drink menu. Everything else is up to the chef. It is a true experience. We had about 21 different items and it lasted from 5 on the dot to about 645. You fully pay to hold your spot and it is a hefty price tag per person but no tipping in true Japanese style and worth every penny in our eyes. The flavors were amazing and even some of my not so favorite items became my favorite dishes!
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi in LA (but expensive).
Definitely not a place for frequent dining unless you are filthy rich. However, it is better than Urusawa and anywhere else in LA.

This was an experience like no other!! I'm so impressed by hospitality of this place and skills of the chefs, it's an entire new perspective when you get your fish delivered to your table from Japan overnight
Be the first to ReplyI dont think this is really worth $400.
I can have a better sushi or sashimi anywhere and evn pay less than half of their price. The plating is all the same. It didnt really give me a wow factor or not that impressed at all. There was a fly with us as well.
Be the first to ReplyI feel disappointed for 2 Michelin star Omakase.
I have been many Michelin Star restaurants. Food was ok (Not Wow ) . You can go other place for Omakase and better quality and cheaper than here($400/person) . I came here for celebrated my birthday.Service was good and staff was friendly but They need to training for the menus because when you asked them for detail of menus they don't know . Thank you my friend for birthday treat.
Be the first to ReplyI reserved a month in advance for my Fiancรฉ's birthday.
The place was immaculately clean, small, and intimate. The chefs were extremely professional and the service staff was amazing. Simply the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. The staff are extremely attentive and take care of every part of the dining experience quickly and politely all while being very friendly. The food was excellent and even dishes which I usually dislike such as octopus and sea urchin were somehow delicious. After adding sake, beer, and plum wine (all delicious) the total for the dinner was about 480$ per person. I honestly can't justify paying that much money for a single dinner, but it was a truly excellent dining experience. I would recommend trying it if you're looking to splurge on a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyThe management is beyond unprofessional.
We had reservations for July 7, 2022, but when we arrived the restaurant was closed due to COVID. We were told we would receive a refund (prepayment of $900), and could make a new reservation. It happens. However, the refund never came. A week later we received a call from the restaurant stating we needed to come July 14, or be forced to lose our deposit. They could not produce proof of text, email or phone call showing they moved the reservation. We were forced to change plans at the last minute to accommodate. The sushi was good. The chefs should leave immediately, and find a better venue to display their skill, one that appreciates customers! To sum it up: sayonara Ginza- make reservations at your peril! Very poor service, bad customer skills, very disappointing overall experience. One star at best
