Chef Max, the best and funniest omakase chef of all time.
Will make you laugh and then give you a piece of the best sushi you've ever had. Literally would recommend to anyone.

do come here for an experience!! it's more of an intimate street sushi vibe for those who enjoy hip hop music and drinking alongside sushi. now our favorite omakase place (compared to nyc omakase) but the fish nonetheless is better than going to a regular Japanese restaurant. the hosts are very interactive

Super cool spot! It's super tucked away and hidden and you literally almost think that you're walking into a broom closet when you finally find the place! Lol Regardless, the experience is pretty dope you get walked through all of your Omakase courses but I loved how you got a welcome shot of sake! Each course taste unique and any questions we had, our chef didn't mind answering. The place is super tiny, very cool in decoration but small, so yes, it can be rushed. I think they should space the reservations out a little better- I think my group had to wait about 20/30 mins after our reservation time to be seated. There was little time to linger at the end, hence being rushed, before they were saying you had to go. The hostesses/waitresses were super nice though! Give it a try just to experience it once! Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing omakase experience.
It was our first time having omakase and Chef Ice was wonderful and definitely blew us away. Highly recommend, we did the regular course which is so affordable and worth it, but I'm sure everything they have to offer is amazing. Thanks for the incredible night!!

The vibes! The food! It's an overall experience! Definitely get the boujee omakase meal. The fish is so good and fresh here you'll be left with wanting more. We also added the Big Mac which is wagyu, and scallop in one bite and it was amazingly good! If you don't like wasabi ask the server to reduce the amount they put on each piece. I love it though so it was perfect! Love the laid-back vibes too. Cannot wait to go again!

The best omakase experience in Chicago! So far, the hubby and I have been here twice, both times have been amazing! One with our west coast besties while they were visiting last summer and for our 2nd, wedding anniversary in March this year. Our first time with Chef Ou (apologies if I spelled this wrong) and second time with Chef Ump. Skye and Stephanie were so nice and made the experience so fun!! We can't go back to our normal AYCE sushi anymore after going to Sushi by Bou. We've done the Bougie experiences both times and it never disappoints. The 90s hip hop music also adds to the experience, as it is our vibe. Please get the Big Mac, if you can, it is so worth it! See you guys next time! (Photos are from our late, July summer 2023 time and mid March 2024 time).

Super cool space, u didn't realize how intimate it was! Service was amazing! Super quick and the chef did a great job explaining everything! I did the 17 course boujie lunch! I left feeling full, each piece was unique. I loved the pieces that had the pickle wasabi! We were in and out within an hour!

The hostess here today was extremely short and rude. When my sister and I ordered 2 mocktails, she abruptly responds only with "uh okay you know they're non alcoholic right". Yes, it's written on the menu and as a physician, I can read. The disdain in her tone caused the sushi chefs and other guests to look our way. Our lunch took about 25 min total, and before I could even finish my drink, she loudly told me to get out of my seat to relocate to the "lounge" area, where I was then asked for my credit card. To be clear, the reservation is for 1 hour per the description, which is already fairly quick. But before half of it had passed, she kicked us out "for the next guest" even though nobody was waiting and the next reservation would be at least half an hour later. This was the worst experience I have had in a while, and I think both management and customers should be aware of the appalling service.

Although late and restaurant was exceptional with regard to service absolutely no complaints there, the ambiance is nice but it's an extremely tight space, big enough for a small gathering about 12-15 ppl. Food was good but the experience felt rushed, soon after getting the last piece of sushi we were kicked out. They say there is no rush but that's not what they really mean because they make you pay the bill immediately and tell you to sit at the bar which only seats 2 ppl . I was late but even still the entire experience was 30-45 minutes anyway, you watch the chef hand roll each piece of sushi but it's only 12-17 pieces. I would not recommend the $100 experience because honestly it's not worth it. Only diff is instead of 12 pieces of sushi you get 17, but they still kick you out the same no matter how much you spend. I left felling hungry and actually went to the hotel restaurant because I was hungry as hell after eating there . Very dissatisfied, the Hip hop music was almost non existent it was so low you could barely hear it.

Really good value for some good sushi in West Loop! My friends and I came for a $60 lunch omakase. There were 17 courses in total and I was very full by the end. Out of the 17 courses, I liked the hamachi, the maguro, and the otoro courses the best. The fish tasted so fresh and the seasonings were very unique- from yuzu, to truffle, to simply perfectly balanced soy sauce. The other courses were good too, but not as good as those three.. The one thing I wish they could have done better with is the wasabi to sushi ratio. Some pieces were quite heavy on the wasabi- so much that it tasted like an unpleasant surprise. The good part is that these didn't happen too often. Our chef didn't really take the initiative talk to us a lot, but he was friendly when spoken to. He was quite informative and explained what each piece was well.

Had a great time here! The conversation, experience and food were dynamic! The omakase was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyThis is more than a dinner, it's an experience.
The 90's hip-hop theme and music playlist gives this place a great vibe. Roman (along with the other sushi chef that night) are the best. Everything was delicious and the presentations of all rolls were on point. Roman made the night so much fun for all of us. We can't thank Roman and the rest of the crew enough for the best hospitality. Definitely looking to come back again soon!

I went to sushi by Bou with friends from out of town and the six of us had the entire restaurant to ourselves. After navigating the secluded halls of the Ace hotel. And landing in this super unique hip hop sushi heaven. Followed by great sushi. Each bite was amazing! I loved every roll. I highly recommend. I am making a reservation to go back now.

Located in the Emily Hotel and modeled after a speakeasy concept, Sushi by Bou offers a hip and intimate ambiance. We arrived 10 minutes till our reservation and was asked to wait in the lobby. The restaurant itself was small (maybe like 8 - 10 seats available) with two chefs yet it didn't feel too tight and we were still able to have conversations among ourselves. We opted for the 12 course omakase and it was a great omakase experience. The fish was really fresh (though we weren't too impressed with the uni but I could just be an off day) and everything was very tasty!! We also got the Kyushu Cove for our drink which was great as well. Our favorite pieces were the yellowtail, eel, and toro! The chef was very friendly, energetic, talkative and attentive. He was making a lot of jokes and trying to make conversation with us. I think he was a crucial component in making our experience fun and special!

The restaurant itself was hip hop inspired and had a dark atmosphere with music playing. I was able to make a reservation for 7pm Sunday only a few days before. I got the bougie experience for $100 which was definitely worth it - expands your menu by 5 courses. Definitely will be coming back for the regular 12 course experience ($60) as well whenever I'm craving sushi! When we arrived, the 6PM reservation was running behind schedule so we were told to wait in the hotel lobby. A server brought everyone waiting complimentary sake shots. My favorites included the hirame, botan ebi, toro with truffle salt, wagyuni, and tuna handroll! Though it's a tight knit space, you're still able to have a private conversation due to the loud music which I honestly preferred. I could tell the chefs were rushed but rather than being annoyed, I respected that they were still trying to give us a good experience despite the time crunch. Will definitely be coming back! The manager also checked up on us after to make sure we enjoyed our meals and apologized again for the delayed start.
Be the first to ReplyI can't get enough.
Let's talk speakeasy. To find this place, you go into a hotel, look for a corridor, walk through a ton of graffiti, look for another corridor with old-school hip-hop playing on the other side, and into a perfectly crafted setting that takes you back to boomboxes and stereos. The chefs are lively and the food is phenomenal. Chef Navakun transpired the setting with his charm. He has a way of drawing you into the scene and appreciating the food when it's at its best. If you get distracted after he hands you a warm-just-seared fish, he will remind you that you are missing the best part of the meal. Eat what is served, and you won't be disappointed. I loved this place so much, I came back a few nights after. I'm a creature of habit when I find something I love, I must have it again. You should def give this place a chance. Make reservations, it's worth it.

I came here with my bf on Christmas Eve and the vibe was really nice inside. We both enjoyed the 17 piece omakase and wanted more! Our chef, Roman was really talkative and chill so that made the dinner very laid back. Honestly, if you want sushi and a good time then you should come here. The hostess/server was really attentive making sure we were doing OK. I didn't feel like we were being rushed to finish our food and each piece was explained really well to us by Roman. I can't wait to be back with my friends or family.

Absolutely, amazing sushi! The staff was very accommodating and attentive. The Sushi Chef, Navakun, was hilarious and very personable! He was knowledgeable, answered every question, entertained us all and made sure each guest was treated special and engaged. The sushi though, that was excellent! What was done to that eel to make it so tender, rich and buttery?! It melted in my mouth. Can't get over it! My mouth waters when I think of it. The music was hitting and taking me back. Definitely the music of only a few generations, meaning that young people gotta learn something about the music that was and should still be, before showing face so you understand the vibe. Music was a bit loud but hey, I know I'm getting older. However, I will definitely be going back!
