Interesting experience, but be prepared to eat in a rush ...
Great experience, though we felt rushed to have to eat in 30 minutes. We could have used a little extra time to enjoy our dinner. It is also quite expensive : 250 in CAD $ for 2 (we had a 12-piece meal each, and only one cocktail).

Absolutely excellent - genuinely some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Really nice, relaxed ambience and great service. Couldn’t have enjoyed this more

The sushi chef's choices are perfect! The best sushi I've ever eaten in my entire life!!! If you are in New York, you have to visit this place!! Unmissable
Be the first to ReplyLove this sushi spot!
Did the 30 minute Omakasa, knew ahead of time it would be just 30 minutes. Totally worth it! Sushi was great. I tried a few things I would normally skip, like bbq eel. Loved every piece. Atmosphere is pretty cool. The sushi chefs were very engaging, I loved chatting with them! The drinks were great. We had the opportunity to buy extra sushi. They have tons of bluefin tuna (my favorite), I ordered extra fatty tuna. I did not feel rushed, surprisingly. I will be back!

Be sure you know what Omakase means before you dine here - the chef will make you a curated selection of single-item, single-piece sushi, and there is no menu to choose from. The Sushi by Bou Times Square location is located in a basement which you enter via a graffiti-filled stairwell. The interior is hip and the staff are welcoming. The drinks were alright and the food was lovely. Their business model is an assembly-line schedule of 30 minute diners, and we felt the pace was good - not too rushed, but certainly on point like the pace of Manhattan (also, I say assembly-line in terms of table turnover only - the food is made right in front of you by the chefs). The next round of guests will fill up the bar behind you and you'll know you'll need to make your timely departure when the chef delivers his last pieces. I'd recommend taking the earliest slot of the day, as reservation timings probably shift late as the night progresses, since each group of diners leaves later and later. It's a fun experience but certainly a bit more expensive than a regular meal out. We definitely went to get more food later in the evening as this is more of a gastronomic experience than a full-fledged meal. Would prefer to give 4.5 stars but rounded up to 5. Be the first to ReplyOmakase done right!
First impressions aside, just go with it. If you keep an open mind for less than 30 seconds as you enter down a dark stairway, you will be in for an amazing Omakase experience. Omakase is basically “Chef’s Choice” or “I’ll leave it up to you”. They politely ask you if there is anything not to your preference and will gladly adjust the servings. Over the next 30 minutes you will be delighted with piece after piece (12 I think) of lovingly prepared, super high quality, fish/sushi. Although this was a business lunch, I am so glad that I tried this and it has been fondly remembered when I tell friends. I am confident that everyone to the left and right of my small party thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Treat yourself right and try this!

I was able to get a last minute reservation for my birthday. Thank you to the Sushi by Bou team for being so accommodating. First off this place is all about punctuality which I love. Show up early and be ready to eat. They keep costs low because they run on a tight schedule. Best to read the menu prior to coming so you know what you want to drink and eat. My friends and I got the omakase 12 course with 1 each Big mac. Our favorites from the omakase include the chu toro, hotate, toro, and wagyu uni. Our chef El Chapo was hilarious and kept us entertained the whole evening. His sushi skills are A+. Food wise everything was so fresh and perfectly executed. After each bite we saw ourselves looking at each other like wow what are we eating. We'll definitely be back to try their higher tier omakase. Overall, I'd recommend this place for the fun atmosphere and quality in fish. The spot can be a bit loud and if you want to sit for 2 hours to dine this is not for you.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed with fish and presentation
Very disappointed after wanting to try this place for over a year. Five of the pieces were tuna (fatty tuna, lean tuna, chu toro, white tuna). The rest were fairly ho-hum with nothing special. The price was very high, I felt, for the presentation and the quality of the fish. Did not enjoy being rushed out while I was still drinking a cocktail. There is another $50 omakase place near here that is far, far superior. Would not go back.
Be the first to ReplyExceptionally good sushi in Rcck Center
Couple of things. One a place with actual soul, a unique approach and neat space in the middle of the Disney-esque soulless corporate eateries that populate Rock Center Two they have one menu - you walk in and they serve you 12-15 pieces of sushi and that is what you get. There is a blackboard with that day's selections and off you go Three it is the graffiti covered subterranean location to the left as you face the building Four they take reservations - which you have to make as I think there are 15 seats total? Probably two seatings at lunch noon and 115? Five - not cheap but a fair price considering how delicious Six - maybe some of the best sushi I have had in NYC - not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat fresh sushi in Manhattan
I went there for lunch and I have had a bad day so far. The friendliness of the staff and the other visitors in this cozy atmosphere together with the great, fresh food and excellent service really picked me up. Highly recommended and the location is very special and fun, too.

From the weird entrance, the small place, to the magnificent omakase served with such joy and enthusiasm makes this an experience not to miss in NY.

I've been their twice. Great place for a fantastic sushi meal. Max, the host/bartender steals the show. Be prepared to be in and out in 45 minutes. If you require an hour, you have to text them and let them know after you reserve. This is a must do!!
