Good Turkish Food
I was a solo diner, there for lunch. I was welcomed even as a "party of one", seated by a window (which I like when I'm alone) and well served. Food choices were varied and included "old favorites" and well as some more creative dishes. I particularly liked the artichoke heart salad which wasn't exactly what I expected (it really was all "hearts") but was delicious. I actually liked that the portions weren't ginormous (nor were the prices, for midtown anyway). I'll definitely return.

True confession: Covid kept me away from my city for a long time. So, when I first found out that the owner of my favorite restaurant around the corner from my had died of heart attack, I was really worried that it might mean changes not for the better. Well, i'm happy to report that this is not the case: the place is alive and kicking, with food better than before, if this is possible. Order all the appetizers you can handle and have a ball. Or go for some fish, all exquisite and yummy. Service will not disappoint you either.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, went back for more two nights later.
The new owner served us both nights that we had dinner here. Tried lots of dishes - appetizers, mains, deserts and loved them all. Prices were low considering the quantity and quality of the food. Very congenial atmosphere.

We felt like good middle-eastern food. After a morning of hiking in NJ We decided to go to Sip Sak. We called from the way to ask if they had outdoor seating, and if they kept all safety measures in accordance with CDC recommendations. The person who answered the phone said not to worry as they take care of everything... when we got there, we first went to wash our hands before we ate and then we sat down. Out of the three employees we saw, one did not wear a mask, one wore it on his chin and one wore it on and off, constantly touching his face. We told the waiter that we were not happy about that and decided to leave. He started shouting at us: โyou are very smart, you come here to use the bathroom and then you complain about masks.โ Not only did he not apologize, but he also yelled at us and seemed so angry that it felt unsafe. The restrooms themselves, of which he was apparently so protective, were also disgusting. Going into the restrooms left us feeling less clean than before we entered them. When he started yelling, all the people on the street stared at him but he was not bothered at all and continued to yell. That was a very bad experience. We are extremely disappointed and deeply disturbed. This should not happen these days!

Ate dinner here a week ago. Evening started off perfectly- server was informative and so so nice (we were a group of 6). Ordered a few bottles of wine and, as always , checked vivino to see true cost. Boy we we shocked to see a $12 retail being sold here for $60+. However, enjoyed all our food and the eve. When finished wanted to talk to manager about the markup- not expecting ANYTHING! We drank the wine and ate all our food. Just wanted him to know we thought it was a bit much to overcharge by that much. MISTAKE: he became extremely combative- in tone of voice and body language and then would not let it end! His language in a restauant with families was abhorrent. No matter how good the food, I would never step foot in there again, nor recommend it. Not sure what happened to civility, but it sure does not exist in this man/ owner/manager. And out poor server looked terrified...stay away...

Excellent food. Very courteous staff. Never disappoints. The โAli Nazikโ is very very good. This is a regular place for me.

3 of us went there and had some amazing food. We ordered one main couse - osso buco and a whole bunch of mezes (little plates) - muhammara, fried eggplant w tomatoes, grilled octopus, borek, braised artichokes. It was all so good. Ordered some mezes to take back to the hotel for the next day and had it for lunch.

To be fair SipSak was recommended to me by a friend. I am glad he did. The environment is great. There are tables for all size groups from solo to groups of eight. I am sure they could accommodate other sizes too.
The food was fantastic. I had red lentil soup before dinner. My main course was the lamb and rice. The rice had a great dill flavor and the lamb was cooked perfectly tender. This was presented well, even though my picture shows a bit out of the dish. After dinner I enjoy a glass of chai and relaxed, looking out the front the restaurant.
Give this place a try, you will not be dissatisfied.
Fabulous but beware
Four of us had the most flavorful meals, truly delicious. The spice balance was perfect and everything was presented and cooked beautifully. However, the prices listed online are not a true reflection of where the actual prices are and most items were $5-$9 more expensive. Their site needs updating. The service was excellent, the wine and beer list is modest but enough to choose from. Lamb is king and I have never had such flavorful rice.

Reading the complimentary reviews of this place I had to wonder if I was at the correct restaurant. Various reviews suggested that this was one of the finest restaurants in NY. I actually wondered if Iโd get a table at lunch without a reservation. To my surprise the place was empty at the lunch hour except for one table and mine. The service is cold and indifferent. The food wasโletโs be honest hereโterrible. I had an appetizer of artichoke hearts and fava beans and then a lamb dish with potatoes. Both were poorly prepared and the artichokes seemed a few days old. The lamb and potatoes had all the flavors of a school cafeteria meal. Mushy everything with no special finesse to match what amounted to a $50 lunch. I am a decent cook (not great but good) and I would never serve this sort of cooking to anyone.
Give this place a miss!
Overpriced And Perfunctory
The food was good and the dishes tasty at Sipsak, but the prices are ridiculously high for what you get at this Turkish restaurant. $168.00 for two people including 2 glasses of wine, 2 weak Vodka cocktails, two appetizers and two entrees, is a shocking reminder of how careful you have to be dining in NYC.
The room is plain and shabby at best. Service by two attractive women is more eye candy than professional. The ambiance is kind of sad and not urbane at all. In Turkey, design and cool are an integral part of the culture. Not at Sipsak. The food was good, but not worth the pricing and the experience. Sipsak was a great disappointment.
Good lunch
Went here last minute with a group of people from work. Overall everyone was happy with their meals. We started with apps. They did a vegan platter with many dips and it was delicious. The Muhammara is amazing. I had the lamb kebobs and they were very good. One person had ordered the shrimp casserole but when served you could see it had cheese in it but that wasnโt listed on the menu as one of the ingredients. Service was good.
